Link to previous thread here: Half a stone or 3kgs off in September!! http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weightlosss_chat/3679916-half-a-stone-or-3kgs-off-in-september

Can't quite believe it's time to start the October thread already!!

So here it is, our challenge to lose half a stone in October. Oldies, newbies and lurkers all welcome. We do a mix of diets/healthy lifestyles etc. I swapped ww for mfp last month to help me focus on nutrients rather than just calories and also follow 16:8 most of the time.

As per every month we ask for positivity, encouragement and motivation to be the best version of ourselves we can be!!

Stats for start of October for me are:

Starting weight: 19.3
Loss for Sept: 10lbs
Loss for 2018: 5st 13lbs

Goal for October: 18.7 - another 10lb loss.

See you all here tomorrow!!

Went for vegan fish and chips in the end. Surprisingly delicious!

Had a jump on the scale today. Bollocks. On the upside I feel lighter, does that make sense? Maybe it's just the hunger? Grin

Yesterday b: Porridge and fruits l: Mexican Bean soup s: sweet potato/ lentils/ veg stew thing.

Yoga and swimming today.

Your vegan fish and chips sounds very appetising. What did they use to replace the fish cricket?

One of the three of my children did improve a little after weaning 7worfs, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

cricketmum84 · 27/10/2019 19:17

@Baguetteaboutit I think it was some sort of textured soy protein. The texture was pretty good and it tasted lovely. Didn't really eat much of the chips but there was a lovely tomato relish served with it that went really well with it.

OP posts:
Baguetteaboutit · 27/10/2019 19:19

Oh that sounds like heaven. I haven't had fish and chips in ages.

Egghead68 · 28/10/2019 07:04

71.6kg so a little down amazingly despite an unplanned Danish pastry yesterday...

4 more days!

HollyTheHarrier · 28/10/2019 07:45

Slinking back in sheepishly...

I have fallen out of the calorie counting habit for the last couple of weeks and eating habits have definitely gone downhill although I haven’t gone totally crazy and still running lots. I’m getting back on it this morning. Got on the scales for the first time in about 3 weeks and I’ve put on about a kilo, up to 60.9kg. My goal is to be 58kg by Christmas.

Meal plan for today:
B - Greek yoghurt
L - turkey sandwich, cherry tomatoes
D - lentil bolognese (maybe with roast butternut squash - had this yesterday and it was amazing!)

Hope everyone is doing well

cricketmum84 · 28/10/2019 08:11

Morning all. Happy Monday!

Back up to 19.2 this morning?? Just wish I knew what the hell was going on with me Confused I'm getting so disheartened. Surely with 16:8 and my calorie intake I should be dropping pounds like crazy!

Plan for today is:
1pm - salad of edamame beans, chopped sugar snap peas and spinach with a homemade dressing of soy, ginger and chilli.
7pm - garlic mushroom pasta made with violife cream cheese
No wine or snacks

Will check in tomorrow hopefully less despondent but I don't see me losing anything for October at all the way it's going.

7Worfs · 28/10/2019 08:32

cricket how long have you been on the exact same routine? Maybe your body needs a shake up, doing something different for a few days?
I’m not sure what to suggest, maybe a day of completely different food?
Not sure if practical, but if you have space at home for an elliptical or a bike, you could do fasted HIIT?

7Worfs · 28/10/2019 08:38

There are some articles around that even the occasional drink can sabotage weight loss, it seems.
Also from personal experience, I don’t lose weight under prolonged stress, even if I don’t eat

DownUdderer · 28/10/2019 08:46

I had the most beautiful walk this morning along the beach (and back again), it’s a huge beach so it was 7km. I had steak and veg for dinner. Yum.

Baguetteaboutit · 28/10/2019 08:49

Well, I'm still up. 10 stone 12.5 but I know I haven't overeaten so this will be water weight or something or I may have been particularly dehydrated when I got almost a pound less only two days ago. Have I mentioned I'm an eternal optimist?

I did a yoga hiit class in the living room this morning, much to the amusement of my kids. Started taking vitamin d, not strictly much to do with diet but I think it might stave off my hibernate reflex which involves mostly sleep and crumpets.

Baguetteaboutit · 28/10/2019 08:51

I'm only guessing from your name and the fact that you described a beach walk as pleasant, but are you in the Southern hemisphere downudderer?

FlyUpAndDieWitch · 28/10/2019 08:54

Morning!

Half-term here, and I've come down with a horrible cold.

Planning to stick to 18:6 for the next four days, eating between 9 & 3.

About to have breakfast, then will eat again at about 14:30.

Happy Monday losers Star

cricketmum84 · 28/10/2019 09:08

Thanks guys.

Yes I've got a bike and a cross trainer, currently at the back of the garage... finding time is hard at the moment as I work so much. I'm up at 5.45 already to get everyone ready and out of the house by 7.15. Only get 30 mins for lunch so not enough time for a gym session. Not home usually until 6.30 then I have dinner to make and usually work to catch up on. I really need an extra 6 hours in every day!

Yes been following the same routine for about 2 months now. Not sure whether to switch back to ww or not although I love the nutritional info I get with mfp. I don't really know what different things I could eat as I think my diet is already quite restricted being veggie and I've also signed up for the 30 day vegan challenge for November so about to restrict it even more!

I wonder if - in my quest to up protein I've also inadvertently upped fat intake? I used coconut milk twice last week and there seemed to be a lot of oil in it. I need to research vegan protein sources although you seem to need to eat a LOT of anything to get close to enough protein for the day!

OP posts:
Egghead68 · 28/10/2019 09:08

Feels like today's going to be really hard. I'm exhausted and headachy and craving Percy Pigs to go with my Lemsip...

Sympathies to everyone else who is under the weather.

Plan
B: Toast and nut butter (300)
L: Veg curry (400)
D & S - who knows. Probably sweets
Body Blast class if I can still function

7Worfs · 28/10/2019 09:18

cricket that’s so much work and family herding Sad
If you weren’t veggie I’d have recommended keto for a month or two, but without meat I don’t think it’s possible, you’d have to eat eggs, butter and cheese at every meal.

Baguetteaboutit · 28/10/2019 09:26

Coconut milk does have a lot of fat which is a shame because it's delicious. Beans are a good go-to vegan protein. How much protein are you aiming for in grams cricket?

Onesmallstep67 · 28/10/2019 09:27

Morning everyone. Hope you all had a lovely weekend
@cricketmum84, you have my sympathy, that must feel deeply frustrating, knowing that you are trying so hard yet seeing minimal results at the moment. You have done amazingly well so far and had a big loss in September. Maybe your body is adjusting to things.I have no deep words of wisdom or advice but simply hoping that you get your whoosh soon. Smile
I had a fantastic Friday and Saturday with my older DD visiting my old college in Kent. And a chilled Sunday catching up with things here. One or two Hallowe'en treats made their way somehow into my mouth but overall being pretty good.
16st 1lb this morning, one up on Friday's weight but 7lbs down on October start weight so happy with that. And 4 days to go so going to be extra good ...maybe

cricketmum84 · 28/10/2019 09:33

@Baguetteaboutit MFP is recommending 70g per day but I think 50g is more realistic. I average 12-15g on a non dairy day and about 25g if I have some Greek yoghurt or cottage cheese.

OP posts:
Baguetteaboutit · 28/10/2019 09:42

I think you'll have to be quite disciplined and strategic about it. You can get 15g from a can of black beans and a similar amount with a cup full of lentils. Even then, that means the veg would have to do some heavy lifting. Nuts and seeds for snacks would help fill the gap. Wow, yeah, a good battle plan is required.

7Worfs · 28/10/2019 09:43

Might be easier to do a veggie protein shake/bar a day? That should be about 20g IIRC

Egghead68 · 28/10/2019 09:54

@cricketmum84 individual high protein yoghurt pots are around 20g protein and 130ish calories (from memory) and taste good too. Hope you see some sustained loss soon.

Egghead68 · 28/10/2019 13:14

And this quark is 17g protein for 116 calories

Lose 7lbs/3kg in October!
cricketmum84 · 28/10/2019 13:43

@Egghead68 good ideas - although I'm trying to stick to vegan diet as much as possible so want to stay away from dairy if I can. (Although I do really love cheese so not sure how easy this is gonna be!!)

OP posts:
Egghead68 · 28/10/2019 14:32

Oh ok - tofu is my only suggestion then but you might be sick of that!
