Hello Lovely People

There are 13 weeks/95 days until 2020. I for one want to greet it feeling my best! Feeling healthy happy and vibrant!

So following on from the previous monthly heathy eating & weight loss threads, here’s October’s. I’ve omitted goal specifics of a certain number of lbs because as we’ve seen we are losing at different rates or are just happy to maintain.

The support I’ve seen on these threads (and personally benefitted from 🙏) is awesome. I’ve not once seen any unkind or harsh posts. You’ve all been awesome 👏.

Link to Septembers Thread

Myself, I will continue to:-

  • follow a Low Carb Mediterranean diet as advocated by Dr Michael Mosley. It’s great for your heart health as well as keeping blood sugars in check.
  • Intermittent Fasting/IF
  • Calorie Counting
  • Eat Mindfully and address emotional blocks as and when they arise.
  • Meal Planning
  • Use a tracker such as MFP.
  • Drink plenty of Water
  • Mantra is I’m not on a diet, nothing is banned, I do sustainable healthy eating.

How do you intend to lose/maintain?

Any tips you’d like to share?

Come on ladies, let’s be awesome 😎

@DownUdderer I love a pork scratching. A bit too moorish as I can’t just have the one! Are you doing keto?

I woke at 5, @BustedDreams and my first thought was I can't have rice thins as they probably have rice and wheat in!

I was down this morning, just 0.2 lb off what my lowest was a couple of days ago and if I lose 1.9lb today I'll make my October target but if I don't it is fine and if I stay as I am today I will have lost 7.2lbs for October.

I weigh every day but what are everyone's thoughts about weighing weekly for November to see if it makes a difference. I can see both sides so I am unsure.

BustedDreams · 30/10/2019 09:09

@SunshineCake yes the rice thins have rice but I’m sure no wheat/gluten. I can’t check as I don’t have any in. Are you intolerant to rice too? 7.2lbs is a fantastic result for October! 👏🌟. I’m not weighing daily at the moment as I’m pretty stagnant, which I think is due to meds increasing. I think weigh as often or as little as you like as long as you don’t allow to mess with your head or put you on a downer. I once met a lady on holiday who was a strong advocate for daily weighing. Her ideology was that if she was ‘up’ from her self imposed perfect weight she would adjust her food intake until she was ‘down’ again. She boasted she was able to maintain her wedding day weight this way and she was in her 70s. She was a very elegant ‘old school’ lady who wore a hat all the time.

Right I am ready to get my head in the game and do this now. Apart from impending Halloween cheese fondue tomorrow but I’m going to eat lightly the rest of the day. I stress over these events but they never turn out as bad as I imagine! We’re having lots of veg to dip so I’ll have lots of that.

Today

Breakfast - toasted muffin with hagelslaag (Dutch chocolate sprinkles) not the healthiest start but it fits into my calories and I’m off work today so whatever

Lunch - soup and ryvitta. Fruit

Dinner - chicken enchiladas and lots of veg
Chocolate mousse for pud

Comes to approx 1500 cals

Going to ride the horse and go for a run.

Foreverlexicon · 30/10/2019 09:27

I’m staying completely off the scales for an indeterminate length of time but I have a history of eating disorders and it messes with my head. I’ve come to the conclusion I will NEVER like the number, my aim now is for my uniform to be more comfortable. I have to wear a stabvest at work and it’s fine when I’m standing up but when I’m sat down doing paperwork, it’s pretty uncomfortable and I think it’s actually giving me heartburn.

BustedDreams · 30/10/2019 09:31

@Foreverlexicon wow a stab vest 😳. Is this in a uk hospital? It must be very stressful for you! Stay safe my lovely and enjoy your ride later 😊

OP posts:
BustedDreams · 30/10/2019 09:35

BTW I totally agree with how you manage your anxieties around scale numbers. Go with none scale indicators. After all it is really all about how we feel and not arbitrary numbers. You’ve got this.

OP posts:
MrsJonesAndMe · 30/10/2019 11:46

Hi all, today will be what it is. Not even had a chance to get on the scales in the morning this week really, so who knows...but since starting in July I've found it useful to get on daily.

I will be heading over the the Nov thread to go set my intentions - back to the basics really!

Good luck @Foreverlexicon that job sounds like erm... something else Shock

Galvantula · 30/10/2019 13:13

Down another tiny bit today. Been out for coffee, chat and very lovely cake with a friend though. 🍰😍😁

I think moderation this weekend will be my aim, to not ruin the tiny downward trend Grin

fallfallfall · 30/10/2019 13:26

It’s to early in the am for me to weigh in, Wednesday is market day and I’m up at 6.
I will tomorrow for the end of the month.
I’m 5’3” and understand your numbers well Busted, stay focused.
Forever I hope you have a good day, the vest sounds uncomfortable, is it heavy? It must affect your neck and shoulders.
-6C, it’s a cold one....I’ll be getting my steps in for sure.

SunshineCake · 30/10/2019 13:28

Yep, intolerant to rice tooSad

This morning I walked my dog, then had therapy, then shopping and have just had gluten free ciabatta with cheese as I had to throw out my Morrison's houmous as it has been recalled. Can't settle so going to walk my dog again now.

Mackerel for dinner.

BustedDreams · 30/10/2019 16:15

@galvantula Every bit helps! I agree about moderation at the weekend. For me just a little deviation creates havoc and the scales fast forward somewhat 😳 Then I spend all week trying to undo the damage Grin

@fallfallfall hope you wrapped up warm for your walk brrrrrrr

@SunshineCake being intolerant to rice must make it really difficult as most gluten-free products have rice in. Hope you’re ok now your boys returned to uni.

Parents in law came round for dinner and MIL left baked goodies for us (despite the fact that we've got 2 birthdays in our house this week so there's no shortage of cake!). I've put them on the highest shelf so that I can't see or easily reach them. I know her heart's in the right place but it annoys me that she's always pushing extra sugar onto us and the kids!

Down half a pound this morning. Got a busy day shopping so will be getting my steps count in Smile

Foreverlexicon · 30/10/2019 17:49

@Mungomango I couldn’t cope with that! I’ve had to accept I really just can’t keep junk in the house. I can be ‘okay’ with it for days but then one day I’ll just inhale it all. Bit annoying when all I want after work is a square of chocolate but hey ho!

I’m police, not in a hospital Smile It’s fairly heavy but don’t find it hurts my back/shoulders at all, it probably improves my posture more than anything!

SunshineCake · 30/10/2019 18:33

@BustedDreams DS Skyped yesterday which was lovely. I love seeing him on screen.

Had a lovely walk with doggy. She met two new friends who were very funny.

Just had good chat with dh. Plans for tomorrow. DD still poorly but she got up and came down for tea and has had two meals today so hoping she is on the mend.

SunshineCake · 30/10/2019 18:34

And yes, blinking rice flour is in so many things I could have had.

BustedDreams · 30/10/2019 19:32

@Mungomango good to hear you’ve dropped a bit. You’ll need reserves of steel to avoid all that cake!

@Foreverlexicon Oops my mistake. For some reason i thought you were a nurse. Your job must be really difficult with all that’s happening in communities and gangs etc. I salute you and all you do to keep us all safe.

@SunshineCake get you Skyping ... I’m not brave enough to Skype or FaceTime or anything. I bet it was lovely seeing your son 😊
I’d missed where you’d said dd was poorly. I hope she recovers quickly.

OP posts:
Mungomango · 30/10/2019 20:35

Full respect for what you do @Foreverlexicon

It's taken me years to train myself to having treats in the house and not binging on them. Having a small amount everyday is the only way I can do it now. And I forgot it's Halloween tonight so we'll have bucketloads of sweets to add to the sugar stash!

DownUdderer · 31/10/2019 01:14

Hi friends, I’m down a pound this morning! I’ve got an app called happy scale, I think someone else has it too, it gives a small sort of fanfare when you reach a small goal and I just love it! It really gives me a kick!

@BustedDreams I’m doing low carb but I’m not terribly strict I just sort of do it blindly by eating what I feel is good for me, and pork scratchings just seemed ok to me! They were nice and crunchy, I miss eating crisps!

I’ve been and got antibiotics this morning for a swollen eyelid from an infection. I had a tiny scratch.

The sky has been obscured for a few days from Bush fires up north. It looks like mist or fog but it’s not.

I have been surprised at my progress this month, I would not have done it without the support here. Thanks! I’d better go and find the Nov thread.

Mungomango · 31/10/2019 07:58

Well done @DownUdderer. I like the sound of that app, I'll have to give it a go! I survived trick or treating (pretty big in our part of NZ) and haven't stolen any of the kids sweets. Also, hit 19,000 steps today Grin

BustedDreams · 31/10/2019 08:13

Happy Halloween 👻 🎃

This is it it. The last day of the month. This month has absolutely flown by. Roasted veg and mixed bean soup for lunch, cod and veg for evening meal. Going for my little walk again too.

@DownUdderer Well done on your October’s loss, 8lbs is fantastic! I also have the Happy App. I’ve set it up so every lb I get a ‘fanfare’ Grin. We eat similarly. Low carb, not keto, if, rarely have sugar or alcohol. I generally feel very good eating this way.

@Mungomango well done on the 19,000, that’s an impressive amount.

If you’re celebrating Halloween 👻 I hope you get more treats than tricks!

@DownUdderer that app sounds brilliant! I’ll need to get that if/when I start weighing myself.

Today is damage control. Going to a bit of a Halloween party tonight which involves cheese fondue and some sort of dessert too I’m sure.

I’m going to keep the daytime low with a shake for breakfast and soup for lunch. I’ll have some pineapple for a snack if I need it.

I’m going to ride the horse and I might torture myself with a Jillian Michaels dvd 😊

MrsJonesAndMe · 31/10/2019 08:42

Good morning all, on balance I'm 2 1/4lbs down for October but those few lbs might be wiped out by my return on Sunday. At least I know I have the tools. Just need to follow through instead of making excuses.

Have a spooky day Wink

cheesenpickles · 31/10/2019 09:00

My weight is still 2lbs up from my lowest but it's going back down again (phew!) I've not managed to get to the gym this week yet but should be able to grab a work out tomorrow and on Saturday or Sunday which is good.

Is it always like this mentally though? Like as soon as you feel like you get a handle on life/work/family and are in a good mindset something derails it/workload sky rockets etc.

SunshineCake · 31/10/2019 09:53

Well I'm an idiot. I have been misreading my graph and thought I had lost 7.2 lbs in October. Nope, I've lost 0.8lbs in October. I was 12 9 August 9th, 12 8 on September 1st and 12 3 on September 30th with October 1st weighing in at 12 2.6. So no clue but at least I'm heading down and have lost all the hatred of myself for eating when I am hungry as well as learning the signs of hunger again.

Hope that makes sense. Confused.
