Lose lbs in September

Following on from the previous monthly loss threads, here’s Septembers. I’ve omitted goal specifics of a certain number of lbs because as we’ve seen we are losing at different rates.

The support I’ve seen on these threads (and personally benefitted from 🙏) is awesome. I’ve not once seen any unkind or harsh posts. You’ve all been awesome 👏.

Link to August’s Thread

I will continue to:-

  • follow a low carb Mediterranean diet as advocated by Dr Michael Mosley. It’s great for your heart health as well as keeping blood sugars in check.
  • Intermittent Fast IF
  • Calorie Count
  • Eat Mindfully and address emotional blocks as and when they arise.
  • Meal Planning
  • Use a tracker such as MFP.
  • Mantra is I’m not on a diet, nothing is banned, I do sustainable healthy eating.

How do you intend to lose/maintain?

Any tips you’d like to share?

Thinking of you today @RiddleyW.

@SunshineCake - I’d go for one or other app and stick to using that so it’s internally consistent. Maybe go on the side of caution and choose the one that’s lower.

Loved the pics @BustedDreams

I think a lot of us are in the same boat @DrDiva. I know I’m feeling physically better for eating properly this week. I felt quite toxic at the weekend.

@SequinnedSlippers I started doing weights at the start the year. I e let it slip over the summer but will be getting back into it soon. It had a great effect on my pace running, I was amazed.

Sounds like you’ve got the planning nailed @WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa - keep going, you’re doing great!

How’d you get on this morning @cheesenpickles?

Sounds good @Knitclubchatter and I hope you enjoyed the bakery’s offering. We all need the odd treat.

I’m down 0.7kg this morning, I’m thinking this is still resetting from the holidays. 61.4. I’m pleased as I don’t think I did too much damage. My month average for August was the same as July’s, but I definitely want to see that dipping this month.

SunshineCake · 05/09/2019 07:08

@Laura221 on days when I really need a plan I write a job list, even down to small things I do without thinking. It really helps keep me focused and I love ticking things off.

@chutneypig great advice and I will do that. I'm walking dog and then taking ds clothes shopping os there will be lots of walking today.

I am almost one more inch off my tummy and a pound down since Tuesday. Wooo.

cheesenpickles · 05/09/2019 07:31

Thanks @SunshineCake @chutneypig my weight had jumped up over 3lbs. I'm convinced I'm
PM and retaining water. I've been clean fasting and although I've had a couple of higher carb things I've kept to my limits. Not too worried as I always drop down after totm.

MrsJonesAndMe · 05/09/2019 08:01

Hello all

Frustrating @cheesenpickles

I'm 2 1/2lbs down this week which makes it 1 stone and 1/2lb in total since 30 July 2019.

I'm off for a hot chocolate and GF brownie this morning with a friend to celebrate the start of the school year. phew

Thinking of you @RiddleyW

BustedDreams · 05/09/2019 08:04

Good morning lovelies. Just a quickie as still on brush. It always takes longer than you think! Missing reading thread but I’m covered in paint in the day and don’t want to get on it my devices. I’m absolutely shattered come evening and have been in bed by 8:30 😮.

Hope you’ll ok. Sending warm wishes.

Sorry I've been quiet, I've been ill last few days which means no working out and wanting to eat carbs mainly!

Feel better today so back on. Weighing in at 10.9 so 1lb up but it is what it is!

@RiddleyW hope you're ok, what a shock for you.

@cheesenpickles that's so annoying. Mine does this, one day I'm up a few lbs next day four lbs down. Cycles play havoc on weight. James Smith on Instagram has a good video about it let me see if I can link it here.

ChipsAreLife · 05/09/2019 09:58

There is also another one but I can't find it. He basically says for two weeks of your cycle it's very hard to lose and you should just strive for maintenance.

cheesenpickles · 05/09/2019 10:11

Thanks for this @ChipsAreLife Smile I'm not quite sure where my cycle is at at the moment. I had my coil removed last week and it seems to have messed it up (def not pregnant!) I realllllly struggled with my coil and I gained a lot of weight using it as well, ironic considering it was non-hormonal Hmm.

MarvelMum3 · 05/09/2019 10:41

Good luck today @RiddleyW hope it goes well and you have a speedy recovery!

Currently very proud of myself - managed to actually eat three meals yesterday! We had baby's first jabs yesterday (seriously where has the time gone already??) So I had a super clingy baby that couldn't even go in the sling because her legs hurt! But between me and OH we managed to cook!

Today however appears to be a different story and I feel incredibly sick! But I also got my period for the first time since baby so I'm blaming hormones! Plan of action is lots of water, going for a walk this afternoon and try not to eat too much salty food like I normally do during that TOM and cause excessive bloating...

galvantula · 05/09/2019 10:48

I think you or someone else posted one of his videos on the last thread chips and it was really interesting.

I'm just hitting my "hungry week" here, and my weight has been steady this week and up a fraction today. I've been getting in some exercise (just fast walking and home dumbbell workout) while I can though, but not eating the exercise calories!

I don't feel quite as ravenous yet, just trying to make sure snacks are healthier or at least smaller.

I'm trying to concentrate on some self care, to avoid being shouty mummy :(. My cycle goes: hungry week>days of rage>day 1 of cycle>couple of days of 'pit of despair' feeling. All of which means staying away from comfort eating gets harder.

Laura221 · 05/09/2019 11:11

@MrsJonesAndMe well done!!

@SunshineCake I love a list too! I've ticked a lot of already this morning. Just a couple more things to get on with this afternoon.

@ChipsAreLife glad your feeling better today.

Just catching up with sink or swim on channel 4 with a cup of coffee. I'm absolutely loving it, is anyone else watching? I've not snacked yet today so it's looking like it'll be a good food day.

SunshineCake · 05/09/2019 12:25

I've just had lunch and gone over my lunch allocation but was under for breakfast so it will be fine. Dinner isn't until 5.50 which seems hours away but I can go on the bike as even though I am not eating back my calories I have the back up. Already had two long walks today as well. Plus I have discovered I have a snack allowance so it will be fine and I am 3.4lbs down since September 1st.

galvantula · 05/09/2019 12:41

That sounds great Sunshine :)

Knitclubchatter · 05/09/2019 15:23

3 lbs down in 4 days!! Lucky you. My body reacts much much slower. Keep up the good work sunshine!

SunshineCake · 05/09/2019 16:38

Thank you Smile. Almost one more inch off my middle too. It's about time I joined the gang. I was rubbish last month. I was thinking today how all of you on this thread are helping and inspiring me and I am very grateful to all of you. Star.

Haven't been on the bike which I should have done. I decided to walk the dog instead and fell down a hole!!

Laura221 · 05/09/2019 18:16

That's brilliant sunshine! Well done!

I caved and snacked on sunbite crisps in the afternoon. Whoops. But apart from that all good :)

SunshineCake · 05/09/2019 18:20

Sunbites aren't too bad I don't think and I am sure we have said nothing is bad. I plan on having a couple of squares of chocolate as I have the calories spare but it is more for medicinal reasons as my leg and foot really hurt.

cheesenpickles · 05/09/2019 19:13

That's awesome @SunshineCake. I just went back and looked at my weight and ehilevthe main number has gone up I noticed my body fat has dropped a fair few percent. That makes me hopeful this is a) water and b) I'll get a big woosh soon.

Doing OMAD today but broke my fast at 19.5 hours. Made a pork loin stir fry with katsu sauce. Was bloody lovely and a snip at 400 calories. In true weird keto/low carb style I've got a ball of mozzarella to snack on while watching TV. Also, I had a Diet Coke a few days ago and a no sugar jelly pot. Wondering if having sweeteners has contributed to the increase. They're only occasional though so don't dwell too much. Smile

dancingmom · 05/09/2019 19:38

I think I'm pre menstrual and fed up with weight stalling. I literally have nothing to add as I am SO TIRED. Please can someone come and clean and tidy my house? Thanks

MrsJonesAndMe · 05/09/2019 19:58

Yeah @sunshinecake

Thanks @Laura221 Blush I'm very pleased.

Hope you're all doing alright. @BustedDreams you sound like you need a break! Nearly done painting?

Leave the cleaning @dancingmom It can wait!

crummyusername · 05/09/2019 22:01

Hi all -

Lots of good progress by the sounds of it - keep going everyone!

Wanted to give a shout out to Huel for great customer service. I mentioned in the August thread I wanted to give them a try for the odd meal replacement but I just couldn't bear the vanilla flavour. I emailed them, they answered straight back, I returned the unopened pack and they've exchanged for chocolate. I still struggle with the texture but am going to try for weekday lunches as I'm always both very hungry and very busy so I think I could manage it!

I'm 3 lb - ish down since start of August, though I have been weighing myself daily (bad habit) and it fluctuates a fair bit.

Knitclubchatter · 06/09/2019 05:35

steps, exercise and logging.
restaurant meal so hopefully i made good choices.
i look forward to sunday's weigh in to see my weeks progress.
amazed by some of the numbers mentioned.

Laura221 · 06/09/2019 06:24

Another pound down this morning so I'm now 10 stone 10lb. Very happy that im seeing movement this month! I've got 16 days until I go on holiday so I'd love to lose another 3lb to take me to 10 and a half.

My meals that I've been sticking to have been breakfast- smoothie (fruit, spinach , couple of dates , low fat yoghurt and almond milk)
Lunch - half a tin of beans and 2 scrambled eggs
Dinner- just normal family meals
Trying not to snack. This seems to be really working for me at the moment.

Have good day everyone :)

Jollyholibobs · 06/09/2019 06:25

Best wishes @RiddleyW

Couple of days off plan here. Been eating birthday cake. Checking in this morning to commit to getting back on plan.
No real damage done.

Have a great day everyone.

chutneypig · 06/09/2019 06:40

I hope your foot has settled down over night @SunshineCake and that the chocolate helped. I keep a bar for the odd square when I have the calories left.

I’m glad to hear Huel were helpful @crummyusername. Are you able to chill the shake at all? Might be tricker for lunch I know. I saw a tip about chilling it to smooth the texture out and it makes a huge difference. I normally make mine the night before and leave overnight in the fridge. In the summer I made one fresh and it was much more powdery and felt a little claggy.

I’m aiming not to go mad when I get home tonight. It’s always my weak point. I’ve got a three hour drive Monday’s and Fridays. The long day never causes me a problem on Monday’s but I’m ravenous by the time I get home Friday. Dinners always ready for me but the temptation to add snacks in is huge!
