Lose 7lbs in August

Following on from the July thread for those who wish to carry on and for new joiners alike.

Ive been inspired by the ladies who posted on the July thread. There have been some awesome losses.

Not quite the end of the month and I’ve achieved my July goal of getting below the elusive 140lbs. As of this morning I was 139.6lbs, bmi 27.3. Down from 145.9lbs, bmi 28.5.

I’m doing a lower carb Mediterranean diet. Plenty of veg, some berries, salad, olive oil, butter, cream, fish, chicken and some red meat. Occasionally I will have whole grain rice and gluten free pasta (good for my micro biome). I rarely drink alcohol. Chocolate can be my downfall Grin. I naturally only want to eat twice a day. I’ve read that intermittent fasting can be beneficial in the battle of the bulge as well as keeping blood sugars in check.

How do you intend to lose?

Any tips you’d like to share?

My tips are drink plenty of water and be mindful of portion sizes.

Just a quickie as need to take ds out but wanted to record I'm another pound down and while thinking about it made me realise I don't understand the science of all this. I can't really have lost two pounds of fat this week.

galvantula · 21/08/2019 10:07

@sunshinecake - I've been weighing daily again and am continually amazed by the huge fluctuations. I'm back up almost where I started again today after 'losing' a kilo. 🙄

I wish I'd done at least a waist measurement before I started to see if I'm imagining that I feel less bloated!

DrDiva · 21/08/2019 10:11

@cheesenpickles that all sounds fabulous, I hope you have a wonderful time!

Today is last day of holiday. We fly out at 10pm and arrive at Gatwick at 12:25. Fx we are home by 3am at the latest. And wish me luck for getting the 7yo to sleep on the plane, am I allowed to give him a non-virgin mojito or three? 😇 (this being MN I hasten to add that I really wouldn’t... 😂 )
Last night’s dinner was fabulous - all seafood, which I would happily live on. I have been looking up Turkish recipes too, like @SunshineCake I love cooking. And this is healthy stuff, right? Slight problem that DS is allergic to dairy and DH is allergic to tomatoes, but they have other good qualities to make up for this! Wink

DrDiva · 21/08/2019 10:15

@galvantula, can you do the do-my-clothes-feel-looser test? I know it feels horrible to go up, but I always try to tell myself that at least I am hovering rather than straight out gaining. Which is better than it was.

galvantula · 21/08/2019 10:33

Yes I'm pretty sure my work trousers feel looser - when I first went back to work after holidays a few weeks ago I remember thinking they were a bit tight. 😳

And also my glamorous post C section flappy bit is looking a bit less squidgy I think. 😅

I'm feeling better overall for resisting eating so much. DH is helping by cooking really nice stuff. We had a veg stir fry last night and he's been trying to make more veg heavy stuff overall for me. 👍

Northie · 21/08/2019 12:07

Monday and Tuesday the scales wouldn't budge but this morning I am at 13st 9lb which means I am down 8lb in 10 days!!

cheesenpickles · 21/08/2019 12:14

That's amazing @Northie!

SunshineCake · 21/08/2019 13:33

@galvantuna I have lost 2 inches off the biggest measurement I can remember of my waist but nothing for a while but I'll take it!

MrsJonesAndMe · 21/08/2019 15:32

Had a headache from getting up this morning. Drank lots of water, but wasn't shifting. Medicated with carbs Hmm Chicken, veg and noodle stir fry for tea tonight. Guess it can't be a smooth road!

I should do measurements too, but haven't. Might do on 1st September when hopefully the figures will look less frightening.

Good luck on the flight @DrDiva

You OK @MarvelMum3 and @doadeer? Hope you've both got some sleep.

SunshineCake · 21/08/2019 18:46

MrsJonesAndMe how are you now? I had a horrible headache yesterday and I'm sure it was from not drinking anywhere near enough water. I'm having a brain scan later in the year as I've been having daily headaches for a long time and had to come off HRT and doctor agreed I should be checked. I'm assuming she doesn't think it is anything serious as I'm not going u too the autumn but it's still scary.

Not a bad day food wise.

Breakfast - piece of cheese as early start and then I forgot to eat anything else.
Lunch - left over corned beef hash.
Snack - hand full of crisps.
Dinner - baked potato and Mediterranean vegetables.

MrsJonesAndMe · 21/08/2019 19:46

Thanks for asking @sunshinecake Ate for an 11 hour period today - not great. Headache went but feeling all bloated Hmm Lesson learnt. Not worth it!

That sounds very scary. I guess that you're right and if they were worried, it would have been done more quickly.

Sleep well all of you!

BustedDreams · 21/08/2019 20:42

@MrsJonesAndMe I had my re test prior to coming away. Will be seeing GP for a review when I get back. I must say I feel marginally better since commencing levothyroxine. I’m currently on 50mg.

Checking in to report a 0.6 pound weight loss for this week. That is 1.6 pounds for August and makes me 10st 0.6lbs. I so want to be under 10 stone! It is my birthday next week and we are out Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday so I do not think the next weigh in will be in the correct direction.

Am off to read all the posts now, I am days behind!

@BustedDreams - I did see a photo of your hair when I clicked on to the link, it looked lovely. I hope you had a lovely time.

Laura221 · 22/08/2019 06:35

Minus 1lb this week so now 10st 12lb. Once I get into the 10 stone bracket I do tend to only lose a pound a week so I'm happy with that. Only 1lb to go until I will have lost a total of 1 stone this year.

dancingmom · 22/08/2019 07:15

Morning all just reporting for duty. No losses here static all week which is annoying as I am sticking to plan and exercising like mad. I'm probably due a slosh?!!! A woosh not a slosh.

Yesterday bacon and eggs after run, salmon and homemade guacamole for lunch and small chicken salad for dinner. No snacks. I say small because I overcookes the chicken and it was horrid.

Hope all are keeping I'm ready for bank holiday!

DrDiva · 22/08/2019 07:43

Morning all! I am back on UK shores, having achieved bed at 3 this morning. DS was awesome, didn’t sleep until the taxi home, then kind of collapsed on the third-to-last stair on his way to bed, bless him.

I have a mega shop coming at noon. Looking forward to a cup of tea - there was no milk in the hotel, the only downside of a lovely place really, but I discover my Britishness has crept up on me unnoticed over a quarter of a decade, and I really missed my bedtime tea!

RiddleyW · 22/08/2019 07:47

Morning!

I’m just off the airport flying 10 hours, at my destination just over 24 then 10 hours home. Crazy work trip. No idea what this will mean for eating really. Going to try to keep track so I’m not eating whole extra meals due to the time difference.

Cary2012 · 22/08/2019 07:53

Morning all, just checking in to say hi, after a few days away. Will catch up with thread later. Hope you're all well. Am 2lbs down, so finally in healthy bmi range. Have now lost 2 stones overall, but I still look heavier than I thought I would at this weight, iyswim.

cheesenpickles · 22/08/2019 08:10

Well done on getting in the healthy BMI range @Cary2012 I'm about a stone to go till that point.

Weighed this morning and another 0.8lb off, guess my body was holding onto water for my TOTM. I've been a lot mor relaxed with carbs but trying to keep under 50g. I'm not sure if I'm still in ketosis but I'm not getting hungry and feeling mentally amazing at the moment. I've even started wearing make up every day which is something I've not done since I was at university.

I'm now 12 stone on the nose, since my absolutely heaviest that's 3.5 stone off and 50lbs total since I switched my lifestyle in June. Huge amount but I really wish I'd done this (and quitting the cigs) sooner.

Hope everybody has a good day. I was initially going to go a bit lad calorie-wise for the festivals this weekend but think I may try and go extended. I have to eat early on Tuesday so need to do some adjusting of my window but going to try and keep to plan. It'd be cool to get through this week without gaining and even losing.

SunshineCake · 22/08/2019 08:14

Morning

Feel sick this morning as it's a big day for dd and busy for me.

I weighed myself and I'm the same as last Thursday. Having gone up 2-3 lbs in between. So does that mean dh is right and should just worth weekly. I JUST DON'T WANT TO MISS THE ONE (oops) day I night be down a bit BlushGrinHmm.

BustedDreams · 22/08/2019 08:46

Good morning 😊

I ate healthy and to plan yesterday. Today I’m having mixed veg cooked in butter for lunch. Peas, sweet potato and fish for later. Away so not weighing but don’t feel I’ve gained. I do feel bloated and I know that’s because i haven’t been for a few days Blush Probably do the pain relief I’ve been taking due to back pain. Which will have been brought on by dancing at the wedding - I don’t dance, can’t dance, no coordination at all - but had a great time nonetheless. Thank you for the compliment.

@FiveShelties well done on your loss! Yes my weight loss has totally stalled. Up, down, up, down.

@Laura221 Great progress, slow and steady does appear to be more sustainable.

@dancingmom I think I’m having a slosh too 😅

@DrDiva I’m with you about a night time cuppa! Ace they are.

@RiddleyW 😮 That does sound crazy. Well done on planning your eating and intention to stay on track. Safe trip!

@Cary2012 👏👏👏 getting to healthy BMI is fantastic! It’s a significant health marker too. That’s my ultimate goal, to be bmi 24 or less.

@cheesenpickles I think we are similar aren’t we. I’ve a stone to go too. You have made awesome progress I salute you. You must be somewhat taller than I (I think you have told me before but my memory is shot 😅)

@SunshineCake hope you and your daughters days goes well! Weight naturally fluctuates during the day as well as over time. Hopefully the trend is generally downwards. Do you use any apps like MFP? It can be useful to see progress over time.

I must remember to drink more water today, i was low on it yesterday.

‘Thank you for the compliment’ was meant for @FiveShelties. Sorry my previous post didn’t make sense Blush

BustedDreams · 22/08/2019 08:50

I for got to add there are 10 days of August left. A lot can be achieved or sustained in that time. I’m hoping to achieve some downward movement, most defiantly don’t want to see any gain. Strong purposeful mindset all the way. Good luck everyone!

cheesenpickles · 22/08/2019 09:04

@BustedDreams I'm about 5 foot 6 (though I was told 5 foot 5 by the health check lady, but that was in the evening so I would have shrunk a bit).

A stone seems totally realistic for me to hit in the next two months or so, which is mad because it felt like I was a million miles away not long ago!!!

I also got a box of clothes from stitch fix, all in a size 14/32" waist and I genuinely thought they weren't going to fit and they all did... some were even looking a bit too big! Though if I use a tape measure and use sizing charts a lot of them say size 18 still but I could be measuring incorrectly.

I've actually got a much lower goal weight in mind (based on my bone structure and family genetics) but I think when I hit healthy BMI I'm going to start turning my attention to fitness and sculpting rather than chasing a number. I'm keen to join the gym but part of me thinks I need to get a lot more life adminy stuff sorted out first or I'll end up getting waylaid and wasting my membership.

Hope everybody had a good day. Smile

BustedDreams · 22/08/2019 09:54

@cheesenpickles you sound on fire! You’re totally in the right mind set, making it work for you. That’s awesome. Clothing sizes are so inconsistent it can be frustrating. But that’s great news on the 14s fitting or too big! I’ve not heard of Stitch Fix.

My height has been measured at the hospital between 4ft 10.5 and 5ft 1.5 😮. Depending on department. So that’s not consistent either. I think I’m about 5ft on the nose.

Today it’s grey and misty. Rather have sunshine but never mind. Feels ore like autumn than summer.
