Lose 7lbs in August

Following on from the July thread for those who wish to carry on and for new joiners alike.

Ive been inspired by the ladies who posted on the July thread. There have been some awesome losses.

Not quite the end of the month and I’ve achieved my July goal of getting below the elusive 140lbs. As of this morning I was 139.6lbs, bmi 27.3. Down from 145.9lbs, bmi 28.5.

I’m doing a lower carb Mediterranean diet. Plenty of veg, some berries, salad, olive oil, butter, cream, fish, chicken and some red meat. Occasionally I will have whole grain rice and gluten free pasta (good for my micro biome). I rarely drink alcohol. Chocolate can be my downfall Grin. I naturally only want to eat twice a day. I’ve read that intermittent fasting can be beneficial in the battle of the bulge as well as keeping blood sugars in check.

How do you intend to lose?

Any tips you’d like to share?

My tips are drink plenty of water and be mindful of portion sizes.

Some days I'd be mortified to post my meals. Due to still getting to grips with all the things I can't eat, and learning to eat when hungry and not by the clock, but also trying to feel hungry as 5:2 ruined my metabolism, if I eat something it feels like a positive.

Yesterday's breakfast - left over mash made with lactose free butter.
Yesterday's lunch - left over roast chicken, celery and cottage cheese.
Last nights dinner - home made shepherds pie.

Breakfast - bacon, fried egg, gluten free toast.
Lunch - left over shepherds pie with extra carrots.

These are not normal meals. I've also recently had cod, dauphinois, veg. Home made smoked haddock pate with crackers. Roast chicken dinner with six vegetables.

I can't eat baked beans, haddock, leeks, onions, plaice, prawns, rice, turmeric and wheat.

MrsJonesAndMe · 20/08/2019 12:39

You are doing well @doadeer It is all a phase and it will get better. Make sure that you look after yourself as best you can. You can't pour from an empty cup.

Only did 14hr fast today, but not going to get too hung up on it all. Had a treat while out this morning, soup for lunch, chilli for tea. Have easy peelers and nuts if I need to snack.

MrsJonesAndMe · 20/08/2019 12:40

That sounds extremely restrictive @SunshineCake, no wonder you are struggling. Sending you a big (((hug)))

SunshineCake · 20/08/2019 12:56

Thank you MrsJonesAndMe.. I think I'm lacking in hugs.

If I lived on my own I'd eat a lot more fish and vegetables. I'll have jacket potato tomorrow when everyone else is having curry. I'd be quite happy with salad for lunch and a plate of veg for tea but it doesn't fill me up as there's no protein.

I'm just struggling with getting organised and this is hard as I'm normally on everything but I'm menopausal, going through therapy Blush plus it's school holidays so I'm busy running the kids to their appointments and commitments.

I seem to be in the supermarket several times a week and it's getting me down.

DrDiva · 20/08/2019 16:17

@BustedDreams I don’t believe you’re more than 50!! I just hit that milestone and I look a couple of centuries older from the same angle Shock Grin
@Foreverlexicon your date sounds lovely. I hope you can just enjoy the moment and how it goes!
@SunshineCake it sounds like you have a lot on your plate. Therapy can take a lot out of you! I hope you can be nice to yourself in non-calorific ways Smile
Last day of holiday tomorrow. There are scales in the bedroom here - just weighed, and am the same as the beginning of the holiday. Which I see as a plus! So much running around after DS and swimming has hopefully kept damage minimal.

DrDiva · 20/08/2019 16:18

(Newsflash - baklava is not calorie free Blush )

SunshineCake · 20/08/2019 17:08

Thank you DrDiva..

I'm actually a really good cook but live with people less adventurous than me. I'll eat almost anything given I went hungry a lot as a child but my kids are all teenagers and have fallen into the love pizza, too full for fruit today hole.

I made pad Thai and it was amazing and have also recently started making Chinese dishes but now I can't have rice it makes it difficult.

DrDiva · 20/08/2019 17:18

Ah, no wheat or rice makes that a bit of a bugger! Would quinoa work?

(We’ve been watching season 6 of Masterchef Australia - one of the contestants seems to use it in every dish!! Including making a risotto.)

SunshineCake · 20/08/2019 17:35

I bought some quinoa but haven't cooked it yet. Is it like cous cous? I was stumped as it said on the packet not for gluten intolerance sufferers. Everything seems to have wheat, onion or sugar in. I can have sugar again but not aspartame. Though I'm trying to limit my sugar intake but sometimes I really want a cola bottle. Life is more boring without milk bottle sweets.

MrsJonesAndMe · 20/08/2019 18:24

I get the quinoa pouches that just need to go in the microwave. You can put that in a salad cold with chicken or fish. I've also eaten it with chilli instead of rice.

Sounds tough. I have a very fussy 7 year old, a young teen with different tastes, but a wider palette and I'm not too fond of fish/seafood so a bit of a disaster cooking wise too. DH bless him will eat whatever is put in front of him--

I was watching Nadia making that last night @DrDiva and it certainly didn't look calorie free!

Off for some gentle yoga now and then a bit of pop corn as I crave something salty.

SunshineCake · 20/08/2019 18:48

Sounds lovely MrsJones. I think I'll cook the quinoa I have. It's probably a disclaimer on the packet.

BustedDreams · 20/08/2019 19:24

@DrDiva you flatterer you Grin Honestly I’m nearer to 60 than 50. Not had any enhancements what’s so ever, no hair extensions, nothing. I’m as nature intended. I’d take being a bit lighter though!

@doadeer You’re doing great, you’re a mummy to a lovely baby and MAINTAINING! You’re a 🌟

@SunshineCake through no fault of your own you’re having to adhere to a very restrictive diet. I’m sure you’re doing your best under such difficult circumstances. As you have allergies/intolerances are you able to access a dietician/nutritionist via your GP?

Today hasn’t totally gone to plan and I’ve had a small amount of chocolate... totally stress eating! Bugger.

Love quinoa here. Its really versatile and even my kids like it. I use it instead if rice I suppose.

Another good day here. There has been a little movement in the scales today and I'm wondering if stress and tiredness has been making me hold onto some weight? I'm not normally stressed or tired so I'm guessing my body was shocked by it. 3 days of work to get through then I have a week of to spend with my family which I'm so looking forward to!

cheesenpickles · 20/08/2019 19:30

Love quinoa and I love making Thai green curry with cauliflower rice as well. Major NSV today. I asked my father in law to take a full length photo of me (helping a friend out with an article) and what do you know? I actually LOVED what I saw. Still a way to go (1 stone will take me to healthy BMI) but I really feel like this is the time that'll stick. I think the invention of Halo Top is probably partially to do with it.

Notopel · 20/08/2019 19:36

I’m still intermittently suffering from this fever with fatigue. Haven’t been able to do any activity today but still keeping below my calorie count.

I’m quite proud of how well I’m logging everything, even weighing my meat etc. The barcode scanner on Lifesum is really useful and helps with logging.

I’m quietly confident that I’ll be able to end the month on 9st or less, which will be a 6lb loss. This thread has really helped keep me focussed on the end goal.

SunshineCake · 20/08/2019 20:41

cheesenpickles I would love your curry recipe if you're happy to share.

BustedDreams I need to get my head in gear really. Just finding things hard at the moment.

cheesenpickles · 20/08/2019 20:54

I use Joe Wick's (slightly adapted). I'll grab it tomorrow for you x

SunshineCake · 20/08/2019 21:05

If it's in his red book I have that, thank you.

cheesenpickles · 21/08/2019 07:26

Plateau well and truly crushed I think. I'm down 0.9lbs this morning bringing this month's total to 6.7lbs. Half a pound more and I'm into the 11s as well. I feel SO much better though physically, mentally and confidence wise. I'm dressing better and I'm actually wearing make up and taking care of myself a bit more. I'm a bit worried it'll be related to the summer and sunny weather (I tend to "perk up" at this time of year) but hopefully this will continue into autumn and winter. Hope everybody else is well!

MrsJonesAndMe · 21/08/2019 07:55

Well done @cheesenpickles Halo Are you on the S&B thread? Loving your outfits on there if it is you.

I am 4.5kg (10lbs) off in total now. Which is amazing, but I'm still over what I was about 18m ago which makes me so cross. Thanks thyroid! Ah well, hopefully I can ditch the rest of it as easily too.

Walked a lot yesterday and will do the same or more today, so that's all good.

Hope you are all able to enjoy the sunny weather that is forecast for the next few days. I know I'll feel better in my clothes now trousers can do up more easily Blush and stomach is a bit flatter for dresses.

cheesenpickles · 21/08/2019 08:11

Yes I am @MrsJonesAndMe and thank you! I've got rid of about 80% of stuff and embracing my basics. It feels a tad alien but I actually feel a lot cooler Grin

That's a great loss so far and try not to get hung up on what you were. You're well on your way to getting there and being healthier anyway, so that's awesome in itself.

I've got an insane few days coming up: two festivals, my best friend visiting, a spa day (woohoo!), my birthday and all sorts of nonsense that involves food and excess. Trying to keep as straight and narrow as poss but may end up with a bit of a blip again. However, I'm way ahead of where I've been for years so I'll more than happily take that temporary hit. This is my absolute fave week of the year (bar Christmas) so I need to enjoy it Grin

BustedDreams · 21/08/2019 08:44

Good morning All 😊

Lovely to read about your successes. @MrsJonesAndMe I agree about our thyroids messing up our metabolism and thwarting weight loss. I’m on thyroxine myself and I’m sure it slows everything down. I really don’t eat to excess and it’s difficult to shift the weight. Add in menopause ....

I’m fancying a big fresh Greek Salad today. Have all the ingredients in and it will use up the iceberg.

Fish & peas later, might have a slice of gluten free bread if cals on low side. Coffee & Cream and lots of water. I do not want to succumb to chocolate later as I did yesterday (stress eating in my case).

Wishing you all a good Wednesday.

MrsJonesAndMe · 21/08/2019 08:54

Thanks @BustedDreams I'm getting test done this week to see if dosage needs adjusting or not. Seems to be working, so hopefully they'll leave me alone.

That sounds like an amazing week @cheesenpickles enjoy it and the new found wardrobe. I have stuff in a shopping cart (virtual) but wondering whether to buy or wait....
