Lose 7lbs in August

Following on from the July thread for those who wish to carry on and for new joiners alike.

Ive been inspired by the ladies who posted on the July thread. There have been some awesome losses.

Not quite the end of the month and I’ve achieved my July goal of getting below the elusive 140lbs. As of this morning I was 139.6lbs, bmi 27.3. Down from 145.9lbs, bmi 28.5.

I’m doing a lower carb Mediterranean diet. Plenty of veg, some berries, salad, olive oil, butter, cream, fish, chicken and some red meat. Occasionally I will have whole grain rice and gluten free pasta (good for my micro biome). I rarely drink alcohol. Chocolate can be my downfall Grin. I naturally only want to eat twice a day. I’ve read that intermittent fasting can be beneficial in the battle of the bulge as well as keeping blood sugars in check.

How do you intend to lose?

Any tips you’d like to share?

My tips are drink plenty of water and be mindful of portion sizes.

@DrDiva we have just returned from Turkey - how strange is that? We had three weeks in Turunc on the Mediterranean Coast and then 5 days in Istanbul. Loved it and would definitely return.

Have a fantastic holiday.

WhatALearningCurve · 15/08/2019 12:19

Hi folks

So I was on the July group and on the 1st July I started at the following

13st 4 3/4
186 3/4lb
87.4kg

I went on holiday on the 27th July and at that point I'd lost just under a stone. I think I was a lb or 2 off the stone mark.

Got back on Tuesday and I'd only put a lb on which for 2 weeks in America I was ecstatic about especially considering the about or bread I ate there. Just weighed myself and I weigh 12 stone 2 1/2!

Over the moon about this.

Not gonna log it as an official weight until Monday though but just gonna try and keep on track till then.

I don't think I'll lose half a stone in the rest of the month but I'm aiming to be fully in the 11 stone mark

Luvmaggie · 15/08/2019 12:42

I need to be here. I’ve had 2 babies in 9 years and I’m 18 kilos heavier than when I got married. Before babies I was a size 8 without diet or exercise. When pregnant gave myself free pass to respond to any craving and put on loads of weight. Lost some but no all had another baby, and here I am.
How do I do this?

EnsignRoLaren · 15/08/2019 14:34

@Luvmaggie you will get a lot of different advice on here, as so much works differently for different people.

I am 7lbs down now just switching to 1200 kcal per day (net, so I can eat back what I have exercised if I need to). I have lost weight with low carb before (and an ED) but this is the thing that has been easiest for planning, headspace, and family life. I just record my calories in my fitness pal.

Good luck!

EnsignRoLaren · 15/08/2019 14:35

That’s fabulous @WhatALearningCurve - well done!

Luvmaggie · 15/08/2019 15:50

Thank you.
I read some posts and I understand there are people struggling to lose large amounts of weight.
Thing is I don’t know how to not eat what I feel like, I’ve never had to stop myself or control myself. All of a suggest I indulge get on the scales and the indulgence is staring me in the face.
I go on diets good for few days then all falls apart again.

crummyusername · 15/08/2019 15:54

Hey @luvmaggie don’t get disheartened it’s normal. It’s ok the first few days then the novelty wears off.

I’ve found it’s easier to make one big decision than lots of micro decisions. In other words - decide not to have (for instance) cake / chocolate / biscuits at all. Then you don’t have to decide whether to eat the biscuits on the plate in front of you at a work meeting or a bit of choccy at night as you know what the answer is.

Also exercise - not to lose calories so much as to put you in a healthy mindset - any exercise at all, doesn’t matter what it is.

BustedDreams · 15/08/2019 19:10

@WhatALearningCurve That’s one hell of a result!!! Well done you!

@Luvmaggie welcome darling. Baby steps. Like @crummyusername suggests, make one decision. Get used to that then re-evaluat. You’ve taken the 1st by acknowledging you want change to happen.

@SunshineCake that’s great!

@Notopel what is VO2? Is it oxygen?

@DrDiva you are most welcome lovie and have a fabulous time! Have a G&T for me pls Grin

@RiddleyW glad you braved the scales! Still a result.

Today has unexpectedly turned into OMAD. Had tuna steak (looked lovely on the fish counter and couldn’t resist) spicy brown rice and fine beans cooked in butter followed by strawberries & cream. Totally yummy 😋. Now drinking sparkling water and will have a ACV & drop of honey in hot water in about an hour.

Hi all

welcome on board @Luvmaggie and onto August @WhatALearningCurve - amazing result.

Today has been very stressful and I did eat badly, but a almond croissant and chocolate eclair does not undo 17 days of hard work, so I closed my eating window at 6:30pm and that's it till tomorrow now.

Sounds delicious @BustedDreams.

doadeer · 15/08/2019 22:19

I've been staying with family this week and haven't eaten very well. I've been so so busy I've barely eaten a lot actually but that also means hardly any fruit and veg. From the start I haven't wanted to lose weight in a way that wasn't a sustainable lifestyle so I've been having 5-10 portions of fruit and veg a day.

Today I had a slither of coffee cake, a tiny mini tart, a satsuma, mug of celery soup and some salmon risotto --- hopeless 🙄

Did an hour and a half of yoga but I was so shattered by the end... Must have done 50 planks. My DS (6.5 months) is teething and our nights are horrendous.

What does everything think about the sensation of being hungry. I used to be familiar with it, a healthy normal reaction. When I was pregnant I ate so so much I think I forgot what it felt like to be truly hungry and now I'm re-training myself to understand its okay to be hungry sometimes.

cheesenpickles · 15/08/2019 22:26

@doadeer it's something I don't feel often but thought I did. I knew I'd often confuse hunger and boredom but it's only now I'm not hungry I'm like "Ohhhh!"

cheesenpickles · 15/08/2019 22:26

Also, 50 planks?! Brutal Confused

doadeer · 15/08/2019 22:31

@cheesenpickles haha it was ashtanga so very hard!! My arms were like spaghetti by the end.

I think I've confused boredom / restlessness and hunger too.

Foreverlexicon · 16/08/2019 05:25

I weighed in as i’m going out for drinks tonight and concerned I may have a snaccident (I will try not to but you never know) so I wanted to check in before that.

Down 3lb from Saturday so I’ve lost what I gained plus 0.8 so pleased with that! Also really pleased with my new products (dietnow), much tastier and kept me much fuller than slimfast.

Never ever done meal replacements before but I’m finding it SO much easier.

cheesenpickles · 16/08/2019 07:27

I'm 0.5lb off this morning and still about 1lb to get below my lowest. I've been stricter as well so just need to be patient. I think that's 4.2lb off for August so far, so I think 7lb is still achievable.

BustedDreams · 16/08/2019 07:30

Good morning 😊

How’s everyone doing?

I know I’m late to the party, but my copy of a Pinch of Nom arrived yesterday. I would recommend it (I’m not affiliated). There are plenty of tips and calorie counted recipes, which is useful if you are struggling for inspiration and are not sure how much is calorie counted portion.

Wishing you all a grand day.

@cheesenpickles well done! Great to hear!

@Foreverlexicon 👍

@doadeer 50 Planks 😮 I salute you!

@MrsJonesAndMe it was delish. It was one of those plates of food you never want to get to the end off. Salmon salad night, fruit salad & Greek yoghurt.

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 16/08/2019 08:44

Good Morning All!

@BustedDreams - it's an awesome book. I've already made quite a few things - honey chilli chicken and garlic chicken bring my favourites so far. It's a great family cookbooks- my daughters have liked loads of the things too so I'm only cooking once.

@doadeer I'm jealous of all your yoga. I'm hoping to get back into it soon but right now my fracture won't allow it. I always sleep great after yoga so I get how much the waking baby must hurt!

I'm doing a OMAD day today - eating out at a Brazilian meat restaurant - one of those where they bring it round on giant swords and carve for you. It's going to be a meat-fest and I'm very excited. Just need to avoid the super carbs sides and their outstanding desserts. Fingers crossed! 🤞🏻

Have a great day everyone. 😊

Notopel · 16/08/2019 09:05

@BustedDreams yep - VO2 is the rate at which your body uses oxygen. Higher is better

9st 4lb on the scales this morning which is 2lb lost this week. Would really like to be back under 9st at the end of the month. Keeping on with the Huel and did a 45 min Tabata this morning.

Anyone else craving donuts 🍩? I can’t remember when I last had one but I can’t get Krispy Kreme out of my head.

galvantula · 16/08/2019 09:12

Morning All.

Another 0.3 kg in the right direction today, so feeling fairly positive. 🤞 I'm at work all weekend so easier to control eating, but need to make sure I don't ruin it when my days off come around on Monday. (And the 🍷 comes out 😆)

I think my willpower is coming back a bit. I was feeling stressy after herding the kids to bed and really craved something sweet, but I went and got a drink instead and it went away.

Hope all your Fridays are going well.

Hi to new joiners, sorry I'm pants at individual replies Blush

cheesenpickles · 16/08/2019 09:16

@WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa love those places. We have one in our city and it was really good but then they refused to give me certain cuts when I was pregnant so I went off them and nobody I know has been back in a while. Not even sure if it's still there.

So, everybody, it's my birthday In a couple of weeks and I want to go out for lunch as my OMAD. What should I go for? I love Greek food (but apart from The Real Greek which is a city away we don't have any near us), Mexican (we cook this a lot at home though) just a bit stuck for ideas.

EnsignRoLaren · 16/08/2019 09:29

I had a bad day yesterday - not enough focus on meals which set off some out of control snacking!

BACK ON THE WAGON today, starting with actual breakfast. Good luck, all

SunshineCake · 16/08/2019 12:47

Afternoon everyone

What is OMAD?

I went to bed early as didn't feel well at all, physically or emotionally, but luckily I didn't get the food poisoning I was convinced I would. This morning I weighed the same as yesterday but I'll take that as I had a few crisps and a couple of squares of chocolate and then when I got in dh had made me GF chicken Kiev and chips. Tomorrow I can go back to normal eating as no more getting up at six to be out of the house, sitting around mostly from 8-5 then home at seven.

Hope everyone has a good day.

galvantula · 16/08/2019 18:38

Same as yesterday sounds good sunshine Smile

I'm about on target for calories today, MFP has me at about 1470 for "lose 0.25 kg / 0.5lb" a day. Thinking I might try to reduce my aim a bit, the next option was lose 0.5kg which gave me about 1200 calories, not sure if I'd get near that 😅

It really is the snacks that wreck it ensign My biggest weakness I think. Apart from cheese. and wine. And beer....

RiddleyW · 16/08/2019 18:38

OMAD is one meal a day.

I’ve had an ok day so far really. Homemade soup for lunch with pita bread. Dinner was oven baked breaded fish and some oven chips and peas. I am planning to have some cheese and crackers and port later though. I’ve had a hell of a week at work
