Lose 7lbs in August

BustedDreams · 27/07/2019 12:07

Following on from the July thread for those who wish to carry on and for new joiners alike.

Ive been inspired by the ladies who posted on the July thread. There have been some awesome losses.

Not quite the end of the month and I’ve achieved my July goal of getting below the elusive 140lbs. As of this morning I was 139.6lbs, bmi 27.3. Down from 145.9lbs, bmi 28.5.

I’m doing a lower carb Mediterranean diet. Plenty of veg, some berries, salad, olive oil, butter, cream, fish, chicken and some red meat. Occasionally I will have whole grain rice and gluten free pasta (good for my micro biome). I rarely drink alcohol. Chocolate can be my downfall Grin. I naturally only want to eat twice a day. I’ve read that intermittent fasting can be beneficial in the battle of the bulge as well as keeping blood sugars in check.

How do you intend to lose?

Any tips you’d like to share?

My tips are drink plenty of water and be mindful of portion sizes.

I'm staying at my mums and weighed myself this morning and I was 12st 12 I'm amazed and delighted! Last time I was up in early July I was 14st 2.

I think I have lost 10lbs in August but that seems enormous! I can't quite believe it.

Shared a small bowl of chips with my sister over lunch but I had a delicious cured salmon and beetroot salad plus no breakfast so hopefully that little indulgence is OK! I was exhausted at yoga last night. My mum was teaching the class and it was dynamic but after 4/5 hours broken sleep with the baby, a 4 hour train journey and looking after my little boy non stop I was honestly jiggered. No yoga today but got a 90min ashtanga class tomorrow which will be mega challenging.

BustedDreams · 14/08/2019 16:50

@doadeer that’s awesome, really fantastic!!! You’re doing something right!!!

I've lost another 2lbs this week, which means I've now lost over a stone since starting this in July. Only 3lbs to go to hit the 7lbs in August target. Well done everyone who's still going - still half the month left to make a difference!

Notopel · 14/08/2019 17:47

What do you when you’re having a terrible day? Battling the urge to eat my feelings.

Activity levels super low today after taking a diazepam this morning. Was wiped out for hours. Had Huel as normal for breakfast and chicken salad for lunch but have also snacked on a bag of cheese puffs and an M&S chocolate lolly. Only about 250 cals so could salvage today by skipping dinner.

Convincing myself to venture out for a film this evening. So lonely with my son away until next Saturday.

crummyusername · 14/08/2019 18:01

Disaster... the past two days I've weighed in right back where I started!! Thought I was 2-3 lbs down. Not sure why, have probably eaten slightly more as I ate out a couple of times but still very controlled. Possibly time of the month....?

Meanwhile big kudos to Huel for a quick reply to my email. They sent me their refunds policy and offered to send a sample of a different flavour. So I'll give that another go.

BustedDreams · 14/08/2019 18:12

@Notopel sorry to hear that. All you can do really is keep breathing, keep going, an hour at a time. Sorry to hear you’re missing your son. Is there anyone who you can visit or who can visit you?

Perhaps try a distraction technique such as going for a bath, walk, paint nails, ring a friend? You could have a lovely warming comforting soup for dinner. Otherwise you might be going to bed hungry/feeling deprived which would continue the cycle of over eating etc. Sending hugs.

@crummyusename good new on your Huel dilemma, hope you like the next lot. Yes totm and fluctuating hormones can cause havoc with the weighing scales.

RiddleyW · 14/08/2019 18:34

I was just looking on the Huel website - I don’t really get it. Is it like slim fast?

BustedDreams · 14/08/2019 18:54

@RiddleyW I don’t what it is other than I understand people mix it up with water and use it as a meal replacement.

OP posts:
Notopel · 14/08/2019 18:54

@crummyusername Chocolate is better than the vanilla. And it helps if it’s ice cold. I’ve been making it up the night before and refrigerating overnight.

Huel would be like slimfast if it decided to pay no attention whatsoever to the taste, because basically slimmers can’t be choosers. The Huel ethos seems to be make something nutritionally complete, and it’s job done if doesn’t make you gag. On the plus side, you can make sure you’re getting your nutrients and limit calorie consumption.

Off to Vue now to watch Yesterday. Having salty popcorn and Diet Coke with the remainder of today’s calories 👌😀

MrsJonesAndMe · 14/08/2019 20:03

So many posts that I can't remember what I read on the previous page, but I love the dress @bustedDreams. I'm sure you'll look great.

Don't overdo it @doadeer. Hope your mum can help so you get a bit of a block of sleep or a nap.

Today I did 16:8. Lunch at noon was salami and ham with hummus, carrot and cucumber Snack: watermelon Tea: palm size piece of home made lasagne, 2 dough balls and side salad. Just closed the window with a Magnum.

Today was really stressful and before I started, I'd have had a hot choc and pastry, wrap, crips and fat coke for lunch, choc bar in the afternoon, big portion of tea and then probably crisps, biscuits or more chocolate after!

Enjoy the movie @notopel I'm not sure how I'm doing it at the moment, but I'm just not eating my stress! For the first time in the long time.

IamHyouweegobshite · 14/08/2019 20:16

Can I ask what 16:8 is? Thanks

RiddleyW · 14/08/2019 20:38

16:8 is intermittent fasting so you do all your eating in an eight hour window. So I eat dinner about 6, done eating by 7 - I don’t eat again until 12 next day.

FiveShelties · 14/08/2019 22:59

@doadeer well done, fantastic result.

@butterwithtoast you are well on the way for August.

@Notopel sorry you are having a bad time, hope you enjoyed the film.

Weigh in today for me and I have lost a pound. Weight is now 10st 1.2 pounds, definitely not falling off but at least it is in the right direction.

galvantula · 15/08/2019 05:14

So after going back up above where I started, I'm 0.3kg back down today. So just under again.

Weight fluctuations are interesting, I do love a graph. Grin

Hopefully continuing in this direction though...

RiddleyW · 15/08/2019 06:38

I’m reluctant to get on the scales today because I had a freak low reading yesterday morning!

BustedDreams · 15/08/2019 06:41

Good Morning 😊

@galvantula yes I find it all fascinating. Especially as an older person. I now understand weight loss to be much more complex than simple math. Energy in - Energy out = Weight loss. I really don’t ever have beyond 1200 cals a day. Mostly nearer to 1000. But it’s so slow. I am petite in height though with a small frame. In my hay day I was 7 - 7.5st. Looked trim and slim, never skinny. Was in C/D cup bra, so still had a shape. I would be happy to reach 9stone.

I’ve got to shop and thinking I’ll get salmon for evening meal. Will have omelette for lunch.

What’s everyone having?

Good luck!

Foreverlexicon · 15/08/2019 06:49

Slimfast has been working really well for me. I’ve been very hungry for dinner but beyond that, it’s not too bad.
Went running yesterday and I didn’t feel exhausted so that’s a win!

My dietnow packet arrived yesterday and I’m ridiculously excited about the different flavours. What a life.

But it’s working really well for me. It’s a bit boring but I’m not obsessing over food and I can still have something nice for dinner each night (within reason). Hopefully I’ll be down a couple of pounds by the weekend!

RiddleyW · 15/08/2019 07:09

I weighed!

See this is where daily weighing is quite interesting. I was 193lbs on Tuesday which was fine, following downward trajectory then boom 191lbs yesterday today I’m 192.6lbs.

If I’d just weighed weekly and hit yesterday I’d be pleased this week perhaps but then setting myself up to look like not much changing the following week. You really start to see that there can be outliers.

Anyway I’m now 4lbs down for August so it’s just about on track.

Laura221 · 15/08/2019 07:31

No weight change this week. I was 10.12 on tuesday but it's gone back up annoyingly. I've not had the strictest week so I guess that's why theres been no change. Looking forward to school starting again so I can squeeze in some runs again.

cheesenpickles · 15/08/2019 07:41

0.9 down here so 1.5lb to get down lower than my spike. Happy with that.

MrsJonesAndMe · 15/08/2019 08:34

Official WI and still at 7lbs down, so very pleased. Will only do 14 hours as we're off for coffee this morning damn social life but having left over risotto for lunch and fajita tray bake thing (without the wrap for me) for tea. Still have watermelon to munch on too.

Well done to all of those seeing losses and to those who haven't but are persevering too Flowers

Away over the weekend, but hoping that I can just fast till lunch Saturday and Sunday to limit damage.

DrDiva · 15/08/2019 09:33

Hi all! Just dropping in quickly - am on holiday in Turkey and just trying to restrict damage really! I am eating the fabulous salads and meats and saving my carbs for a couple of G&Ts (weak, they like to make em strong here!!) and a piece of baklava per day Blush Hopefully at least will remain the same.
I promise to respond to individual posts on my return, have been very bad at that. Blush in the meantime, thank you @BustedDreams for the continuing inspiration.
Oh, and @FiveShelties I have been in the UK since 1994 - my entire adult life! Only managed to find DH 10 years ago though Grin and that was in Peru! My family is in the NI.

Notopel · 15/08/2019 09:59

20 minute peleton low impact this morning and attempted a run. Managed 20 minutes and my VO2 levels are shocking. Didn’t realise how unfit I’d become.

Adding some more jogs and hiit peleton workouts for next week. Weighing in later today 🤞

SunshineCake · 15/08/2019 10:44

Hi all.

I've accepted Wednesday- Friday are tricky as I'm up at 6 and out 7-7 so have made a big pasta salad with one slice of bacon, half a huge courgette and lots of mushrooms and tomatoes with some cheese which I'll snack on.

Last Friday I was X stone 9.4 lbs. today I'm X stone 8.6. My most recent low weight was 26 April and was X stone 2.8.
