Lose 7lbs in August

Following on from the July thread for those who wish to carry on and for new joiners alike.

Ive been inspired by the ladies who posted on the July thread. There have been some awesome losses.

Not quite the end of the month and I’ve achieved my July goal of getting below the elusive 140lbs. As of this morning I was 139.6lbs, bmi 27.3. Down from 145.9lbs, bmi 28.5.

I’m doing a lower carb Mediterranean diet. Plenty of veg, some berries, salad, olive oil, butter, cream, fish, chicken and some red meat. Occasionally I will have whole grain rice and gluten free pasta (good for my micro biome). I rarely drink alcohol. Chocolate can be my downfall Grin. I naturally only want to eat twice a day. I’ve read that intermittent fasting can be beneficial in the battle of the bulge as well as keeping blood sugars in check.

How do you intend to lose?

Any tips you’d like to share?

My tips are drink plenty of water and be mindful of portion sizes.

According to the jar of marmite peanut butter, a portion is 15g. Honestly, this didn't cover one slice of wholemeal toast.

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 13/08/2019 17:58

Well all the walking at the seaside has counteracted the food - 2lb loss!! 🤯 I'm just 1.5lbs from losing a stone. And 0.5lbs from losing 7lbs in August. Whoop whoop 🙌🏻

MrsJonesAndMe · 13/08/2019 18:25

Oh thanks all Blush shows how much crap I was stuffing in my face. Should really log a "typical" before and now day on MFP to see the calorie difference, but I think it would be embarrassing!

That's good to see @Notopel and probably as much as I would eat in a go. Chocolates and biscuits I could eat the whole pack regardless of what a portion is meant to be! Blush Blush

I've had to readjust massively, especially not turning to food when stressed. Was really stressed this afternoon, but stopped myself. Expecting 10 hours of stress at work tomorrow - eek!

Well done @Somuchroom it's 2lbs in the right direction!

RiddleyW · 13/08/2019 18:34

I just weighed in and I’m 3.4 lbs down at the halfway point so I might meet the 7lbs!

I just had dinner. Cod, dauphinois potatoes made with lactose free butter and milk, carrots, sweet corn and broccoli.

Tomorrow is weigh in day then I have to drive for two hours, wait for three then drive home. Then repeat Thursday and Friday. I'm worried about keeping snacks to a minimum due to sitting around for three hours but I'll pack four books and find somewhere to walk if possible. But I'm not eating between meals at home so I can do it when out.

galvantula · 13/08/2019 20:49

Today was ok despite family birthday dinner with cake and a beer. Need to keep on it for the rest of the week and hope any hormonal bloating subsides 😂

Alaimo · 13/08/2019 22:10

I've not had a great week: various social dinners, nights out, etc meant more food and alcohol consumption than planned. However, today was weigh-in day, and I still lost weight (I think last week's weight was probably artificially high as I was about to get my period...). I'm now at 62.5kg, which was my goal before going on holiday this weekend, so I'm happy :).

SunshineCake · 14/08/2019 05:42

Morning all

I actually feel like crying. I haven't weighed myself since Saturday or Sunday and was convinced I'd be down a couple of pounds. I'm not. I'm up a pound from last weigh in. Assuming it's the home made peach cobbler I had two portions of this week but I'm so gutted. I am sure I've not eaten anything I'm intolerant too, I walked 15600 steps yesterday. I'm not eating between meals. This is why I weigh every day so at least I might get one day with a loss. I've hardly slept and been awake since five. Have three days of long drives and sitting around and I just want to cry and starve myself.

Hope everyone else has better days and weigh-ins.

galvantula · 14/08/2019 06:12

Ah it's crap when you think you've done well and it doesn't seem like it sunshine

I am actually 0.2kg above where I started on this thread, despite my 'best' week of eating for ages. Hmm

You can join me in waiting for the 'whoosh' that sometimes happens after it looks like nothing is working.

Hope your day gets better, and be kind to yourself if you can. Flowers

Laura221 · 14/08/2019 06:50

Oh sunshine it's so hard when that happens. Maybe try daily weighing again? I weighed yesterday and lost a pound then I've weighed again this morning and apparently have gained it back again even though my days were similar. Theres so many fluctuations with weight try not to be hard on your self x

RiddleyW · 14/08/2019 06:54

I had that last week and much better this week with very little change in how “good” I’d been. It’s so so hard but you have to trust that things will change if you hang in there. And yeah, you might want to consider daily weighing - fluctuations can be huge so you may have been less yesterday.

cheesenpickles · 14/08/2019 07:04

Ooh @SunshineCake that sucks. It'll probably come off in a whoosh before you know it. I'm down 0.1 but still up 2lbs from the weekend. I've not been an angel but I've not been excessive over calories etc. I think it could be totm related. I need to up my activities some more but it's so hard working from home and having the kids around.

IamHyouweegobshite · 14/08/2019 07:47

Hi, I'm down 0.5kg today, which I think is 1lb? I was pretty good yesterday, only had a. Of my dd homemade cookies Confused. I have seen others saying about 12/18 diet, is that literally eating between 12pm and 6pm? Do u then calorie count?
I've been having quite late dinner, which definitely don't help. I always try to have a small portion. I've tried so many healthy eating regimes, and feel that since I've gone into my 40s a switch has flicked and I cannot get below a certain amount. I've done ww, slimming World, mfp and fit it steps, slim fast etc. I walk on average 13-15k a day, although school hols, ive been lazy. Anyone able to help and give advice? Thank you.

RiddleyW · 14/08/2019 08:20

Yes pretty much but I definitely also limit food in that window. I don’t calorie count but I stick to two meals and try to make them healthy in the sense that there’s fibre, vegetables and so on. I don’t snack between them as a rule.

That’s worked well for me in the past and allows me to not have DS notice I’m on a diet! I don’t want to pass any of my disordered eating onto the poor boy.

EnsignRoLaren · 14/08/2019 08:26

Checking back in after a big birthday and a holiday and being completely out of signal! I exercised to cover my calories and didn’t have ice cream or cake on holiday, but I still haven’t dared weigh myself for two weeks Grin.

Weighed today and I am 154.4: exactly the same as two weeks ago. I can live with that! Have been back on track for a week but I will have to step up on activity and food planning to get the loss started again. I’m down a belt loop!

Cary2012 · 14/08/2019 08:36

Morning all. Hope @BustedDreams and others who are not having a good time you are ok today. @SunshineCake and others who are disappointed with their weigh-ins - please don't be disheartened by a lb or two gain. It's nothing, ignore it and keep going. Weight fluctuates naturally. My skinny model daughter eats an amazingly healthy diet, and she goes from 8st 6 to 8st 10 on a daily basis. I was 3 pounds heavier yesterday than I am today. I know why, I stayed in my calorie allowance at the weekend, but ate bread, and for me that means bloating and water gain. Theres no way, on 1200 cals a day I would gain pounds. You have to eat 3500 calories above your requirement to gain a pound. So, please don't stress, stick to your plan, and don't worry about a pound or two going on, it's the overall trend that matters. So, I've dropped just over a pound this week, and have finally got under 12 stone! This has given me a boost to keep going. I want to lose another 3 lb before I return to work in less than three weeks. Then I'll be well under the top of my healthy bmi. We can do this! Flowers

socksforfox · 14/08/2019 08:38

Surprisingly down today after being up yesterday. Perhaps it's hormonal because I've just finished my period. Who knows

socksforfox · 14/08/2019 08:40

That's 2.6 off since the beginning of August which I guess is goal at 1.5ish pounds a week 🤞🏻

cheesenpickles · 14/08/2019 09:27

To hit my 7lbs for August I need to drop another 4.2lbs in 17 days. A little over two weeks. I do have a birthday coming up but I'm starting to think that losing carb is probably more realistic than keto. I'm definitely better at managing my portions/calories but it won't come off as quickly. Part of me thinks I should keep keto until I get into the healthy BMI range but I'm running out of steam a bit and have another 20lbs or so to go to hit that I think. Tempted to an extended fast today, wasn't hungry during my window yesterday but ate anyway.

socksforfox · 14/08/2019 09:48

I go on holiday on the 24th which is annoying! I'll put on weight then! Urgh

BustedDreams · 14/08/2019 09:55

Good morning you lovely lot :) How are things going for you. I’ve read about some successes and some blips. Every day is a new opportunity for a fresh start.

Today I tried on some knee high boots that previously I could only comfortable wear over tights with a skirt. Today I got them on over my black skinny jeans, so pleased about that. My weight is up down between 139 - 141 which is frustrating. Nonetheless I’m continuing to do my healthy eating as hoping I’ll start losing again. I won’t make 7lbs this month but I’m ok with that. I might make 4lb, which when you have less than a stone to go is reasonable.

I’ve a wedding reception on Saturday so I’m upping my veggies, protein & fat and cutting the carbs (I hold water weight if I have too many) so I feel extra comfortable in my dress. It’s fits nicely atm, but I want a bit of wiggle room. Wearing it with red & cream espadrilles. I’ve altered the middle bit so tummy isn’t showin.

@Cary2012 I’m ok ty but we have some crap we are having to deal with in rl. But we are ok.

@MrsJonesAndMe well done on your 7lbs, that’s awesome and I bet you feel good! I hope you do anyway.

@Notopel I agree nuts are very calorific Shock I do love nuts though Grin

@Cary2012 well done on dropping below 12st, that’s fantastic!!!

@EnsignRoLaren to be the same weight after a holiday as before Is definitely a good result!!! Well done!

@RiddleyW we have similar eating patterns, mine 17/7 and I only eat 2 meals a day. Sometimes Sundays are OMAD as we have a much later lunch that’s keep me full for the rest of the day, after having prepared and cooked it in the first half of the day itms. It generally works for me but in a bit of a stall at the moment.

@SunshineCake poor lass. That is so not fair and undeserving. Keep with us, keep on it and hopefully it’ll soon disappear. Great step count btw!!

Thanks everyone. Feel rather silly now. Feel smaller but then it's all relative as I was huge before.

Today is going to be hard. Planned to be out 7-2 so only brought breakfast and a small snack. Now might be out 7-7.

What is this whooosh? I'm hopeful Grin. I'm due in 8 days but I'm also menopausal so there's no telling when I'll come on. Last month I was 5.5 weeks late.

@IamH I think my main weight gain came from becoming intolerant to foods as the weight went on before I became apparent I was peri-menopausal.

Cary the 3500 more than you need equals weight gain is interesting as I'm sure I didn't do that on a daily basis when two stone went on but it has given me hope that I'll have the whoosh Grin.

Northie · 14/08/2019 13:03

This morning's weigh in showed the scales at 13st 13.5lb. That's a 3.5lb loss since Monday morning when I started this - and a drop down from the 14st bracket to the 13th!!Smile I am well aware it is probably just water weight and bloating but watching the number lessen is giving me motivation. I'm due on soon so I am waiting for the day when I gain 6lb courtesy of Aunt Flo Grin
