Lose 7lbs in August

Following on from the July thread for those who wish to carry on and for new joiners alike.

Ive been inspired by the ladies who posted on the July thread. There have been some awesome losses.

Not quite the end of the month and I’ve achieved my July goal of getting below the elusive 140lbs. As of this morning I was 139.6lbs, bmi 27.3. Down from 145.9lbs, bmi 28.5.

I’m doing a lower carb Mediterranean diet. Plenty of veg, some berries, salad, olive oil, butter, cream, fish, chicken and some red meat. Occasionally I will have whole grain rice and gluten free pasta (good for my micro biome). I rarely drink alcohol. Chocolate can be my downfall Grin. I naturally only want to eat twice a day. I’ve read that intermittent fasting can be beneficial in the battle of the bulge as well as keeping blood sugars in check.

How do you intend to lose?

Any tips you’d like to share?

My tips are drink plenty of water and be mindful of portion sizes.

@cheesenpickles cross posted. Yes even as an older lady, I’ve noticed the interest from fellas go up! They are so fickle! Not been iD yet 🤣

Lol it's crazy isn't it. I'm happy with the IDing. I'm 34 this month so even for challenge 25 I'm doing well Grin

doadeer · 11/08/2019 10:00

That dinner looks delicious!!! ❤️

Keto fans question! I'm reading the Michael Mosley fast book during my middle of the night baby feeds, I'm only a small way in BUT my question about low carb... In Asia (particularly countries like korea & japan) they eat lots of rice but have very low obesity and heart disease... But they eat next to no diary. Is this the opposite of keto?

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 11/08/2019 10:13

Morning all! I had a good day yesterday. I had pain au chocolat for breakfast with my family but still stayed within syns so I'm happy.

Lunch was a frittata, with bacon and potato.

Tea was a garlic pork sizzler from Aldi, some SW Wedges and some of the cauliflower garlic bread that's always on Pinterest etc. I was really impressed by that and will deffo be making again!

Today I'm having frittata for lunch again, with some soup, and for tea I'm having a sweet potato burger with some halloumi and sweet chilli sauce on a tomato and basil basil thin. I'm proper excited for that. 😂

Notopel · 11/08/2019 10:21

@cheesenpickles I’ve noticed this too. Thought I’d become invisible the last few months and just assumed it was due to getting older. Since being on a diet this month, my skin has massively improved and I’ve lost weight from my face. People have started looking at me again, which was quite disconcerting at first, as I wasn’t used to it anymore.

Definitely feeling not right. Don’t think it is Keto flu judging by other people’s experiences. Taking it easy as still intermittently feverish. Luckily there’s no snack food in, so can’t take refuge on the sofa with comfort food. Still managing to keep to the diet.

Almost subscribed to Huel yesterday but still not decided as it’s £40 for the month, and worried I’ll hate it. There’s a lot on the forums about needing to work with the flavour add-one and consistency/texture etc before you find the way to make it work for you. Sounds like hard work?

doadeer · 11/08/2019 10:33

I was standing with my baby in the pram at the weekend and I still got id'd for a minuture bottle of wine 😂

SunshineCake · 11/08/2019 16:06

Hi everyone, I'll catch up soon but wanted to post a question before I forget it for a second time.

Dh told me off for weighing myself again and is threatening to take the batteries out of the scales.

My reason for daily weighing is a few years ago I put on two stone and didn't notice. No one told me and even though it seems to have been linked with reasons other than eating all the chocolate in the shop, I'm scared it will happen again.

Once a week seems sensible but it's also six days where the weight could be climbing every day.

What does everyone else do and what do you find works?

I have to confess I've started using something to help but I needed a kickstart as I've been struggling and I'm also dealing with therapy and menopause and just didn't know how to start. food issues, starved as a kid

BustedDreams · 11/08/2019 16:26

Hi @SunshineCake are you weighing once a day or multiple times a day? I think once a day as part of a daily routine is ok. However multiple times a day could be viewed as obsessive.

Menopause sucks. A bit of information for you

OP posts:
SunshineCake · 11/08/2019 16:29

Once a day though I have weighed twice if I've got to the loo twice in quick succession Sad. I've got food intolerances which I think caused the previous weight gain but also helped to put half a stone back on when I was eating stuff I was intolerant too. Or maybe just ran out of food to eat.

Thank you for the link. I'll look at it now Flowers.

SunshineCake · 11/08/2019 16:34

Avocado is listed as a good thing to eat but then it's high in calories so is it a case of only a couple a week rather than five or six I'd sometimes like?

I do know I sound thick. I'm not really. Just had struggles.

BustedDreams · 11/08/2019 16:39

@SunshineCake do you count calories? I do. Not saying that’s the only way to eat healthy. With counting calories, no food is banned. Agreed that avocado is more calorific than other foods. However it’s jam packed with healthy fats and nutrients. Fats along with protein are very satiating.

Sorry to hear you’ve had struggles.

OP posts:
Ornery · 11/08/2019 16:46

I love avocado and could quite happily have one every day. Realistically speaking though, I only ever have half - in all honesty, there isn’t a reason to have more than that at a sitting - you still get the deliciousness in a salad, or with a little garlic/ spice on toast. It isn’t really improved by doubling the portion size. (My entire downfall is portion sizes - dh is a foot taller than me and a rugby player, yet for twenty years he has been lovingly dishing up the same portion sizes for us Grin)

SunshineCake · 11/08/2019 17:29

I am not counting calories this time as I make 95% of everything from scratch and weighing and working out the calories feels too much for me to manage right now. I've stopped eating between meals, I've upped my water intake which is not so great when I'm up twice a night for a wee, I'm using a smaller plate when I remember and I've stopped the small amount of alcohol I might have had and don't buy sweets or crisps as then I can't eat them.

I'll defend my having a whole avocado when I'm only having it with a couple of GF crackers and chilli sauce or with three new potatoes Smile.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 11/08/2019 17:35

I've not been concentrating too much on the food side and just trying to eat more mindfully.

But I have been setting a gym routine with dd and actually did some running today. Day one of couch to 5k. I never thought I could run but I'm giving it a go.

RiddleyW · 11/08/2019 18:40

I made a really nice lentil and paneer curry for dinner. Not low calorie but very nutritious!

I’m experimenting with weighing myself every day. Just to try to make it less of an enormous disaster if I weigh and I’ve maintained or gained. If I wait a week and nothing I’m so upset and I think fuck this.

Laura221 · 11/08/2019 19:11

I weigh every day when I'm trying to lose weight. I find it keeps me motivated for the day. If I dont weigh regularly then I tend to gain a stone inbetween the next weigh in 🤦‍♀️ I have no idea if it's a healthy mind set or not but I dont really care at this point in time. I really tried to be kind about my body ect in the past but I'm a real emotional and binge eater so I find it easier to just keep daily check.

Notopel · 11/08/2019 19:33

I’m not weighing every day. Actually don’t have scales so using a relatives when I visit. Trusting that I’m accurately logging food and keeping to calorie count. I’ll let you know if it’s working on my next weigh-in 🤞

Just placed an order for Huel after much deliberating. Working out meal plan for next week finally clinched it. If I have Huel instead of breakfast, then I can keep my three eggs scrambled with one slice of a toast as a dinner option.

Goal this week is to add some running to my Peleton cycling. I’d like to do Parkrun on Saturday.

MrsJonesAndMe · 11/08/2019 19:49

At the moment I'm weighing every day as I need the motivation to keep going and lay down the foundations of this becoming habit.

Luckily I don't like avocado Wink

I was in Tesco earlier and thought "oooh, I'll get myself something as I didn't have ice cream" and then I had to say to mysel "no, you don't need it" and I didn't! Halo

Hope you've all had a good day. Well done on the running @DrMadelineMaxwell I got as far as sort of 20 minutes in a go, but never completed it. Asking for new trainers for my birthday next month, so may have another go.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 11/08/2019 19:52

20 minutes seems way out of my league at the moment, well done for getting that far. But I'm glad I've given it a go and am going to see how far I can get.

BustedDreams · 11/08/2019 20:26

@SunshineCake ok lovie. It’s important to do what you know you can manage coupled with what you feel will work. Hope you’re ok lovie. I hear pain and struggling reading your posts. We are here to listen if you need us. Be kind to yourself Flowers

@DrMadelneMaxwell well done on starting couch to 5k!

@RiddleyW Do you have the lentil curry recipe to share pls? Sounds delish plus I struggle to make lentils taste tasty iyswim. I think I am going to start weighing daily again. Up a couple of pounds and I’ve been vv good!

@Notopel Report back on your Huel adventure :) I’m genuinely interested. Hope it meets your needs.

@MrsJonesAndMe I did similar today. Everyone was having a mini magnum out of the freezer and I decline 😮. Now I’m fighting the urge not to go and get one! But I won’t as I will be going to bed in about an hr anyway.

Today has been a OMAD, like most Sundays when I do a roast. Plenty of chicken, sprouts, cabbage, carrots, broccoli and cauliflower. Plenty of home made onion and mushroom gravy. It was delish 😋

Wishing you all good night, I’m winding down now for bed. Sleep well, especially all the mums with little babies 👶

Busted the curry recipe is fry an onion, garlic and ginger add a good squeeze of tomato paste and some spices (I used a passanda mix). Add veg stock (about 500ml) and lentils (I use 50g per person so 100g for this) and half a tin of coconut milk. Simmer until lentils are soft (about 20 mins).

While that’s simmering fry cubes of paneer until brown then add to the lentils.

BustedDreams · 11/08/2019 21:31

@RiddleyW thank you. Silly question, do you use lentils straight out of the packet, the dry ones. Or pre soak, or use tinned?

OP posts:
RiddleyW · 11/08/2019 21:33

Oh good question! I use dried but different types take longer to cook. So I used red ones in this age they do fine straight from pack, dried. I rinse them in a sieve because they seem dusty but I think that’s just me!

crummyusername · 11/08/2019 22:03

@RiddleyW that sounds amazing!

Weekend was ok food wise. Always harder when the kids are about as we tend to eat together and I don't want to eat too differently to them, so I had a bit more in the way of bread than was ideal but otherwise not too bad. Have managed to stay off the sugar, cold turkey is the only way I can do it.

And did a run today - 40 min. Really enjoyed it.

I'm about 2-3 lbs down overall depending on the day.
