Following on from the July thread for those who wish to carry on and for new joiners alike.

Ive been inspired by the ladies who posted on the July thread. There have been some awesome losses.

Not quite the end of the month and I’ve achieved my July goal of getting below the elusive 140lbs. As of this morning I was 139.6lbs, bmi 27.3. Down from 145.9lbs, bmi 28.5.

I’m doing a lower carb Mediterranean diet. Plenty of veg, some berries, salad, olive oil, butter, cream, fish, chicken and some red meat. Occasionally I will have whole grain rice and gluten free pasta (good for my micro biome). I rarely drink alcohol. Chocolate can be my downfall Grin. I naturally only want to eat twice a day. I’ve read that intermittent fasting can be beneficial in the battle of the bulge as well as keeping blood sugars in check.

How do you intend to lose?

Any tips you’d like to share?

My tips are drink plenty of water and be mindful of portion sizes.

If you blend it (and if you've got a proper blender add some ice maybe?) it should be foamier and more milkshakey I think.

BustedDreams · 10/08/2019 08:46

Good Morning 😊

Not heard of Huel. Is it a protein mix? I used to sort of make my own up. In a blender/bullet put milk (can be nut or soya), berries/banana/, scoop of ground flax seed, maca powder, pysium husk powder. Scoop of protein powder if I had it in, not always. Blend. It was lovely.

I had my ACV last night, half hour before bed. Was not at all like what I remembered but I did have a different brand. Quite pleasant and it will become part of my wind down routine. Added 1/4 tsp of acacia honey into the warm water too. Imagination or not I had a huge wee this morning Blush.

Today I’m making a cake 🧁 for oh as he’s requested. I promise I won’t lick the bowl Grin

Buttered veg and chicken bowl for lunch.

Roast chicken and roast veg tray bake for evening meal.

I know, chicken twice. I forgot to get fish out of freezer. Roast chicken dinner tomorrow too as it’s mums favourite. I’ll be clucking and growing tail feathers Grin

What have you got planned (food/activity) for this weekend? After cake baking I’m thinking of up cycling a small side table with a lick of paint.

Morning all! I’ve not posted much but been lurking in back round.

My plan was a dominos tonight as a treat, dh is out for the night, however after getting on the scales this morning and seeing a fab result, I don’t want to sabotage it for my Monday weigh in... so pitta pizza it is.

@BustedDreams you must have some serious will power on you to bake a cake and not eat it fresh out of the oven Smile

galvantula · 10/08/2019 11:22

Hello all, I've not even managed to read all your posts let alone reply 😂

However I'm 0.7kg down since I started posting, it's v nice to see my MFP graph starting to go back down the way. Blush

I did have my pizza and alcohol last night, but managed to resist wrecking it all by eating a big snack. I had a whole bar of tablet sitting there but I've not had any. Yet....

Feeling extremely hungry, need to think of something inventive to fill me up for lunch time now. Might actually have poached eggs on toast. 3 eggs one slice toast instead of 2 of each is what I did last time.

All 3 DC are acting a bit wild, trying not to let it drive me to snacks 😅

Well done everyone, lots of good progress and tips 👍👍👍

MarvelMum3 · 10/08/2019 13:52

Good afternoon everyone! Feeling a lot more positive today, but thank you for letting me have my little negative nancy moment last night!

@MrsJonesAndMe Thank you for your kind words! Just taking it one day at a time! And that wind last night was terrible! I thought my fence panels were going to blow away! Sounds like you have a good plan for today, hope you have a lovely lunch out!

@Laura221 Thank you - it is hard but not in the way I imagined! Getting no sleep I’m fine with, its just everything seems so much more stressful in the middle of the night! But I keep reminding myself, if I can deal with my daughter crying at 3pm, I can deal with my daughter crying at 3am! And I am glad that you are feeling better today, crummy days are crummy and we can do better today! Sounds like you have a good day planned!

@crummyusername Sorry to hear that the huel experiment didn’t go well and I hope that you can find a way to enjoy it! But I second the advice for coffee - I used to do that with cambridge vanilla shakes when I did that!

@cheesenpickles Thank you! The ‘well don’t’ made me chuckle this morning so thank you for that typo! It’s also reassuring to know that you managed with you husband on night shifts - honestly I’m not getting the best support from either of our families, they keep trying to get him to get another job… Hmm Enjoy your festival today, hope you don’t get too wet! My recommendation for food stalls would probably be a like a chicken kebab without the pitta if they have that! And well done for the loss! Hopefully being mindful about the bloating now will mean the scale won’t throw you off next week!

@BustedDreams I’ve always imagined AVC to be horrible to drink! Glad to hear it isn’t. And definitely strong willed to not eat the cake batter!! Sounds like you have a lovely weekend planned, even if it’s lots of chicken!

@somuchroom So much will power from you as well to not have the dominoes! It’s motivating to see good results!

@galvantula Congratulations on the loss! And well done on having a treat but not letting it throw you completely off - definitely shows that you’re working at breaking some bad habits which is even more impressive that the weight loss. Could you do something really hands on with the children to keep you busy and away from the snack cupboard?

Food today so far has been: 2 bowls of all bran (one at 4am when baby decided she wanted to be awake and another at 7am because I was still hungry). And then we actually managed to get out of the house today before the weather got too bad, so that was a mile walk into the city! Grin So treated myself to a caramel macchiato as a well done for getting through the last couple of nights and getting out of the house this morning! And I have yet to eat anything else today, so apparently the big breakfast has worked to fill me up! And if I manage not to eat anything until dinner time, dinner is going to be chicken nuggets, low fat chips and baked beans. Because comfort food that isn’t chocolate is a win (and that’ll still fit into my calories for the day!)

AngelaScandal · 10/08/2019 14:02

@MarvelMum3 early days for you x

MrsJonesAndMe · 10/08/2019 15:10

Well thanks to Ikea, I ended up with salmon, mash and peas (not too bad) and a slice of Daim bar cake (not too great) but I did my 16hr fast and have just had a peach, so not going haywire because of one meal/snack.

On the up side DH and I have planned out our whole downstairs redecoration when all we went for was fabric for the kitchen chairs Blush Now of course I'm hunting Dulux paint colours and then he's just reminded me we'd need new curtains Shock Hmmmm.... LOL Didn't buy anything apart from the fabric though - will need some time to plan it all and decorate first I think.

Hope you are all having a good day and don't blow away, especially @cheeseandpickle

Well done @galvantula

We eat a lot of chicken @busteddreams DS doesn't really do much else.

Ornery · 10/08/2019 16:53

Only a pound down this week, on the lazy plan, but I’m happy with that. It was a bank holiday here so we had two very unplanned meals out and I very definitely enjoyed them thoroughly (also ate my body weight in buttered popcorn at the cinema and one day midweek had the most delicious almond croissant). I’ve been weighing every day though - I have the Fitbit scales so can pull up the graph without any pesky writing down and inputting data - hmm, apparently I’m a lazy weigher too...) so it was really interesting to see the immediate effects of a really heavy day... and equally easy to see the effects repaired.
So I know I would be much further along without the eating out/ pastry Blush but it’s been valuable to see just how all this weight has crept on, too. (At one point I was routinely grabbing a pastry with a fancy beverage every morning at work).
So, only a pound down, but I feel good about it. And even better, the elliptical is fixed, so no excuses there. Smile
I’ll have a read back and see how everyone else is doing - so many posts and I haven’t been around for a few days!

Another one eating all the chicken here. Easy to keep under calorie count for lunch with a chicken salad 🥗

Not feeling hungry for dinner tonight. Had a late lunch about 3 after travelling this morning. So totally calorie count for today is only about 825.

Has anyone else had symptoms of Keto flu? I’m not particularly aiming for low carb but have been choosing protein I.e eggs, meat etc to get the most benefit from restricted calories. I’ve had intermittent flu type symptoms for the past week - temperature, sore throat, back pain. Just wondering if this is just Keto flu or if I’m coming down with something?

galvantula · 10/08/2019 19:25

Man this thread is a magnet for spam. I've reported "Mary's" post above 🙄🙄

galvantula · 10/08/2019 19:29

I've just eaten out and had a big steak for dinner... Attempting to log it now.

Luckily the service was slow, the dessert menu not super exciting (no cheesecake ffs!) And the kids were getting restless, so we didn't stay for dessert. Grin

doadeer · 10/08/2019 19:50

Okay day for me.

Did such an intense hour of yoga the sweat was dripping on the mat. Must have done 40 pressups and managed to hold plank for a minute! I'm amazed.

Didn't have breakfast as I would have been sick at yoga just had an espresso.

Lunch we went to a fresh pasta place but I tried to have a healthy option of cherry tomato, basil and mozzarella sauce with peas in.

Then tea was tortillas with tomato paste mozzarella again (oops) and a huge bowel of spinach and salad. No oil.

And a g& slim tonic

Got some cherrys to snack on later if I need it.

How's everyone's day been?

cheesenpickles · 10/08/2019 20:26

Bad day for me here. Although I've kept to my eating window, keto has gone out of the window at the festival. I've had poutine and some churros. I'm going to feel so ill tomorrow. Blush

doadeer · 10/08/2019 20:28

Can anyone explain keto to me? I have heard of it but no understanding 🙏

galvantula · 10/08/2019 21:32

I'm still looking at the bar of tablet from last night 🤣🤣

If I don't eat it and eat within target tomorrow, I'll be ok ish on average, even with wine and the steak dinner. 🤔

Somuchroom · 10/08/2019 23:14

Blush ate my body weight in junk food tonight... bit annoyed at myself, it wasn’t even worth it. I just couldn’t stop. I literally ate 5 cereal bars one after the other and I’m laid here in bed feeling ill. It’s not as if I stopped after the cereal bars either. I’ve cream, kitkat, bloody meringue nests.

Tomorrow is a new day.

MrsJonesAndMe · 11/08/2019 06:50

Morning all

Yes it's a new day @Somuchroom Have you got a plan for food? We've all been there!

Well done @galvantula

I kept to fast window and didn't go mad on food. Today we're at a theme park where the options are pizza and pasta buffet or McDs style food, so going for the latter. Chilli and rice planned for tea.

Have a good day

dancingmom · 11/08/2019 06:53

Morning all, hope you're all ok. Has been such a busy weekend. I literally cleaned the house from 8am until 8pm yesterday - fell into bed. Like one massive workout! Guests today so cooking this morning but doing keto friendly salads (feta tomatoes homemade tatziki) and roast lamb. Potatoes for the men and kids!

Lost two pounds yesterday which I was so happy about ( you were right about wooosh I think Busted)! So now under 12 and a half which is fab as I'm nearer to 12 than 13 psychologically speaking. 12 feels like a big deal to me mentally. If I can get under that it wiii be emotional!!!!!

@doadeer here's a link to diet doctor website which explains the science behind low carb and keto. I don't intend to keto forever. But low carb yes - it's all to do with insulin and keeping blood sugar low. It's hormonal driven rather than the current medical policy of eat less move more.

dancingmom · 11/08/2019 06:58

@Notopel I had keto flu but not what you describe... more foggy head, headaches, nausea and one day of diarrhoea. Lasted a week. If you are in ketosis it's possible. If you've cut carbs and sugar and eating ketogenically you will start to detox. But if you keep eating carbs you will go in and out and maybe that might make you feel bad intermittently. I don't know... to be honest you sound ill. Maybe give it a rest and look after yourself for a few days. Thanks

dancingmom · 11/08/2019 07:00

@Somuchroom I totally know what that feels like. It's upsetting. Don't beat yourself up. Sugar addiction is horrible. I would rather eat none than try and restrict it. Because I struggle to. Not trying to push this way of eating but that's why I'm doing keto as my cravings have basically gone. It's quite restrictive obviously but means you don't have that need to binge in same way. Today is a new day.

Somuchroom · 11/08/2019 07:37

@MrsJonesAndMe yeah my plan is to not eat ever again! No I’m literally going to have a long fast and try to stick to one meal today.

@dancingmom I am a fully fledged sugar addict. I always have been. Before my ds came along and I had to set an example, I would eat bags of sweets instead of dinner. I’m thinking I can’t go on like this.

I’m back on the wagon.

cheesenpickles · 11/08/2019 08:20

1.5lb on but as well as non-keto food we did a cool 25k steps yesterday (including the equivalent inclined of 53 staircases) and a few times I was in my max heart rate zone sooo suspect that might be a temporary gain. It was good fun though. Hoping to head back today if the kids have been good and the weather gets better.

cheesenpickles · 11/08/2019 09:20

I'm not sure if it's a non-scale victory but has anybody noticed a change with how people (particularly men) interact with you now. When o was younger I did get a lot of attention from guys, but as I've got older (and bigger) it sort of dropped away. I thought that was mainly down to that horrible in invisibility thing women tend to get as we get older. However since I've lost weight I've been cracked onto SO many times. I was holding hands with my husband yesterday at this festival and some guy came and started trying to chat me up! It was quite funny (especially when he clocked my 6foot 3, Tattoo covered, built like a brick shit house husband) but it's also made me a tad vulnerable and slightly upset how people view those who are a bit bigger. I've also been IDed LOADS since I've lost weight for booze and even a lottery ticket.

BustedDreams · 11/08/2019 09:36

Happy Sunday Morning :)

How’s it hanging? Pleased to report I did a couple of paint coats on my upcycle table project. In between making roast dinner should be able to get another one on and then a final coat tomorrow.

@Somuchroom cake made, Just need to make frosting this morning. No I didn’t lick the bowl either, but I did lick a finger Grin. Brand new day & week for you @Somuchroom You can make it different to yesterday, and you’ll love yourself for it if you do :) Well done for getting back on the wagon!

@galvantula 👍 progress is progress! Thank you for reporting the spam!

@MarvelMum3 The last bottle of ACV I bought was horrid. They all aren’t born equal. This was Braggs that I found quite nice and not unpleasant.

@Ornery A 1lb loss is great! I agree about weighing and having the data download automatically, I love watching the graphs/numbers go down. Not so keen to see then go up!

@Notopel I don’t know if you’re suffering ketosis flu or not but hope you feel better soon. Low calorie intake might have affected you, 🤷‍♀️. Take care.

@doadeer Fab effort on the mat! Impressive!

@cheesenpickles how was the festival? I’m impressed with the 25k steps in a day. I don’t do that in a week sometimes (not now as trying to be more active)

@MrsJonesAndMe Enjoy your theme park. Is it one with big rides 😮

@dancingmom Woo hoo 2lbs in one day! Fanbloodytastic, and you’ve a sparkling clean house to boot!

Right I need to get to it, painting, finishing cake, peeling spuds (I won’t be having them) and prepping veg for roast dinner later.

Whatever you do today, enjoy it! It’s not a rehearsal 😊
