Lose 7lbs in August

Following on from the July thread for those who wish to carry on and for new joiners alike.

Ive been inspired by the ladies who posted on the July thread. There have been some awesome losses.

Not quite the end of the month and I’ve achieved my July goal of getting below the elusive 140lbs. As of this morning I was 139.6lbs, bmi 27.3. Down from 145.9lbs, bmi 28.5.

I’m doing a lower carb Mediterranean diet. Plenty of veg, some berries, salad, olive oil, butter, cream, fish, chicken and some red meat. Occasionally I will have whole grain rice and gluten free pasta (good for my micro biome). I rarely drink alcohol. Chocolate can be my downfall Grin. I naturally only want to eat twice a day. I’ve read that intermittent fasting can be beneficial in the battle of the bulge as well as keeping blood sugars in check.

How do you intend to lose?

Any tips you’d like to share?

My tips are drink plenty of water and be mindful of portion sizes.

Hi everyone, i’m feeling Very tired! Just trying to get on without being too hard on myself! I have walked the dog, and eaten way too much for breakfast. Am not even going to calorie count, just try to stick to 3 meals instead for today as a way of keeping some order on things without telling myself i’ve blown it. There are certainly ups & downs and it’s only week 1!

FiveShelties · 07/08/2019 11:33

Such a lot of posts - so lovely to read them all. First weigh in tomorrow for August and I am sipping a lovely chilled Sauv Blanc and hoping for a loss - any loss will do. I must add it is 10.30pm here so have not started morning wine drinking.Wine

I made Shakshuka for dinner which we have never had before and it was lovely - am trying to have one meal each week without meat.

BustedDreams · 07/08/2019 11:52

@FiveShelties where in the world are you? Are you on your holidays or just don’t live in the uk.

Hi everyone

This morning I've walked the dog, done some gardening, hoovering and mopping and have just checked my fitness thing.

Step count 4593
Active time 48/60 minutes (was out with the dog for 1 1/4 hours)
Calories burnt 870
Activity 187
Distance 3.25 km

Don't understand the calorie difference

SunshineCake · 07/08/2019 12:01

Thank you MarvelMum3 Flowers.

SunshineCake · 07/08/2019 12:03

Iirc someone advised me to pick one thing and I've just thought of it

No alcohol at all - not difficult as don't drink a lot
No Asda sweets - tricky as my new go to treat after not allowed milk chocolate but I had a win yesterday. Read the ingredients and thought what the hell is all that and put them back.
Minimum sugar as I know I can't avoid all of it.

Cary2012 · 07/08/2019 12:52

@MarvelMum,
Yes, overnight all bran is like o/n oats. I hate the texture of oats, so do this instead. I use one of those jam jar type pot things, and bung about a small cup of all bran in, with enough skimmed milk to just about cover. Then a tablespoon of Greek yog or Skyr. Then I top up with berries. Leave in fridge for a couple of hours. Very filing and yummy. The all bran is very smooth, bit like a darker mushy weetabix. Hope baby is better soon.

MrsJonesAndMe · 07/08/2019 14:04

Busy busy ladies! I left half my hot choc as I'd had enough Shock Really changing habits/outlook - just need to keep it up!

@MarvelMum3 you need to learn to stand up for yourself and so does DP having lots of visitors is tiring enough without them all coming on different time scales! Hope you survive it in tact.

Will check in again with you all tonight. Off to clean and then do some Woolly hug squares.

AngelaScandal · 07/08/2019 15:01

Well today has been an all day bad food binge

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 07/08/2019 15:15

@Boscoismyspiritanimal It's only 3pm so you have plenty of time to change that. 😊

Afternoon all. I've had some good days in preparation for some not so good ones. 😂I'm taking my daughters away for a couple of days tomorrow and whilst I'm going to be mindful, I AM having a seaside ice cream, no doubt about that. 😂

Yesterday's food was
Brunch: cheese omelette
Dinner : SW Wedges and two slices of Chicago Town pizza (8 syns)

Today will be
Brunch: pizza omelette
Dinner: homemade all veg pasta bake with mozzarella.

I love how active this thread is and how positive everyone is. 😊

SunshineCake · 07/08/2019 17:45

Me too Bosco.

I was hungry while ironing so had some salt and pepper cashews. Unless my eyes are worse than I thought a pack is over 600 calories. I put the bag down then an hour or two later ate a whole bag of mini twirls. So fail on the sugar and fail on the chocolate as I'm meant to be lactose free. Emotionally struggling but also they've been tormenting me for days. Three meals a day just doesn't work for me.

Laura221 · 07/08/2019 18:05

Bosco - sometimes you just need to write the day off and start again. Tomorrow will be a better day.

Sneakily replying at work so sorry for rubbish spelling.

My days ok, hungry now tho while I'm waiting ti finish x

Cary2012 · 07/08/2019 19:31

Evening! Hugs to all who struggled today, tomorrow is another day, so just accept it, draw a line and start again. We didn't gain weight by only eating unhealthily once or twice, we consistently over ate. At least, I did. So, we won't spoil all our efforts by messing up for a day. Brunch: left over cold roasted veg mixed into a salad, nicer than it sounds. Dinner was lovely:: brown rice with chilli chicken and french beans with roasted carrots. Sneaky little G&slimline later! Take care x

doadeer · 07/08/2019 19:51

Quite a good day.

Breakfast: Porridge with strawberries and blueberries
Lunch: tomato, avocado, courgette salad with bulgar wheat and peas and a small tuna steak
Snack: an apple with a bit of peanut butter
Tea: tumeric rice with pepper, green beans and peanuts

I'm not doing any faddy diets, trying just to stick to fruit and veg dense meals with no crappy snacks.

Thought i was doing well then someone took a pic of me and I look so huge compared to the two people I'm with 😔 before pregnancy I was a size 10, slim. I'm huge now.... So depressing

crummyusername · 07/08/2019 20:33

Great work everyone!! :)

The scales showed 1lb down this morning, slightly taking it with a pinch of salt as it's still early on but it's encouraging.

I have been cutting right down on carbs especially at lunch. Just had kedgeree tonight and now feel a bit bloated though.

Has anyone tried Huel? I was thinking of using it for lunches a few times a week. It's not low carb but it's meant to be super nutritionally balanced, a friend used it and said it leaves you feeling really full as plenty of fibre and protein. I've ordered some, if anyone is interested I can report back...

SunshineCake · 07/08/2019 20:36

What is Huel, crummyusername?

MrsJonesAndMe · 07/08/2019 20:37

Did you survive @MarvelMum3? I hope so.

A fairly good day here food wise and I did half an hour of yoga that I my core found challenging Blush

Ooooh, what do you put in a pizza omelette @WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa?

chutneypig · 07/08/2019 20:46

I’ve been using Huel for a year or so now @crummyusername. I originally tried it as I work away from home and didn’t have cooking facilities all the time. @SunshineCake it’s a macro balanced plant based powder with additional vitamins. I’ve gotten on with it really well and despite having a kitchen now always have a shake for breakfast and usually one of their bars as a snack in the day. My top tip is to make it up in advance and put it in the fridge, it helps the texture enormously. I have the mint chocolate flavour and love it. I have two scoops for breakfast and it usually keeps me going until lunch.

crummyusername · 07/08/2019 20:51

Ah good to know it's worked for you @chutneypig

I am getting fed up paying out for salads at the work canteen and being hungry an hour later! Also this will be easier when it's just me and I don't need to cook for anyone else. Good tip about the fridge, I'll try that. It arrives tomorrow, I got vanilla.

SunshineCake · 07/08/2019 20:53

Thank you chutneypig. I'll investigate to see if it's suitable as I'm intolerant to some stuff.

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 07/08/2019 20:58

@MrsJonesAndMe - my own veg packed tomato base, light cheddar, mushrooms and bacon. Bit of garlic and herbs. Really tasty and really filling.

MarvelMum3 · 07/08/2019 21:47

Quick check in about my day but I'll reply to all you lovely people in the morning (on my phone right now so would struggle!) But know you are all fantastic! And you're always so kind to me and each other, I love it! [Flowers]

@MrsJonesAndMe I did just about survive! But you are totally right about me needing to stick up for myself - it was just hard today because they were all the OH's friends and I didn't want him to feel like he wasn't allowed to invite his friends over.

It wasn't too bad though - they brought food, they tidied up after themselves and didn't demand cuddles with baby. And I wasn't as stressed as I thought I would be. But my OH was, he said he felt like everyone was watching him look after baby and he couldn't cope - so admitted that it was wrong of him to agree to that many people and then expect me to look after baby. So he cleaned the whole of the downstairs to apologise - so let's turn a bad day positive here, no cleaning up to do tomorrow!!

Food wise? I didn't have lunch and have eaten burger king and cake for dinner. And I feel like crap for it. But going to take that feeling, and channel it into eating healthy food that makes me feel good! And enjoying a few laid back days at home with my baby and no one else!!

StepAwayFromTheChoc · 07/08/2019 22:09

Today wasn't great food wise, ended a couple of hundred calories over but not a disaster, not everyday is going to be perfect I need to accept that so I don't give up everytime I have a bag of crisps or a bar of chocolate.
Another fast day planned tomorrow and a busy day friday combined with 16:8 will get me back on track

FiveShelties · 07/08/2019 23:25

@BustedDreams - I live in NZ so we are 11 hours in front of the UK and half way through winter! I am a Brit though so find winter in 'summer' very strange and I don't think I will ever get used to Christmas in the middle of summer.

Today was my first weigh in for August and I stayed the same - still 10st 2.2 pounds. I am happy with that as I lost a lot in the last few days of July - which was a surprise.

I find I am really good during the week and then come Friday evening the wheels come off. Must try harder, must try harder .................
