Lose 7lbs in August

Following on from the July thread for those who wish to carry on and for new joiners alike.

Ive been inspired by the ladies who posted on the July thread. There have been some awesome losses.

Not quite the end of the month and I’ve achieved my July goal of getting below the elusive 140lbs. As of this morning I was 139.6lbs, bmi 27.3. Down from 145.9lbs, bmi 28.5.

I’m doing a lower carb Mediterranean diet. Plenty of veg, some berries, salad, olive oil, butter, cream, fish, chicken and some red meat. Occasionally I will have whole grain rice and gluten free pasta (good for my micro biome). I rarely drink alcohol. Chocolate can be my downfall Grin. I naturally only want to eat twice a day. I’ve read that intermittent fasting can be beneficial in the battle of the bulge as well as keeping blood sugars in check.

How do you intend to lose?

Any tips you’d like to share?

My tips are drink plenty of water and be mindful of portion sizes.

Day 3 of hitting my MFP target. 🤩 I'm crediting this thread and it's occupants with providing motivation.

I can probably keep it up until Friday when I'll be having 🍕 and probably 🍺🍷.

But it kind of balances out usually, if I make sure to just give myself little portions of snacks with the alcohol so I can't overeat unconsciously. Like pre weighed minstrels in a dish so I can't scoff the whole big bag watching Netflix. Blush

galvantula · 07/08/2019 23:36

I definitely agree on not beating yourself up after a bad day or two. 👍

Thanks guys. Salvaged the day somewhat by going on a 6 mile run in the evening so hopefully mitigated some of the damage earlier in the day. I have a really ‘hung for a sheep as for a lamb’ mentality.
Well done to everyone though - some great inspiration to keep going here!

chutneypig · 08/08/2019 06:34

Well done on the run @Boscoismyspiritanimal. That’s a good dent in any extra calories.

That sounds great @galvantula. I’ve started preplanning any alcohol into MFP, that definitely helps my motivation when I see the calories. But I still like a beer when I get home on a Friday night, all about the balance.

Enjoy the next few days @MarvelMum3

That’s the spirit @StepAwayFromTheChoc!

Weekends have been what’s slowed my loss for sure @FiveShelties. I’ve kind of come to peace with that and try not to go too OTT. Because I don’t see my kids in the week I don’t want to get too hung up on calorie counting if we’re out and about. For the bigger picture it’s working and that’s the main thing.

Also work travel often throws a spanner in the works. Does anyone else find that? I’ve gotten a lot better if I have an active choice with food available but so often it’s a set dinner and that’s a pain. I realised last month I tend to eat everything put in front of me then.

MrsJonesAndMe · 08/08/2019 06:34

I'm glad to hear you were OK @MarvelMum3 it's only from my own experiences as a new mum where I learnt the lessons. If they're childless then they have no idea so you just need to be firm.

Well done for turning it around@Boscoismyspiritanimal

Fantastic start @galvantula

I was born in the Southern Hemisphere and it's taken a while to get used to the difference too @FiveShelties Glad it's going well - slow and steady.

I'm going to do my official week one weigh in in an hour or so. Food wise:

Fast as long as I can, then coconut macaroon while in the park
lunch: chicken salad
snack: melon and nuts
tea: fillet of cod, chips and veg
snack: few squares of lindt chocolate

Hope you all have a great day.

SunshineCake · 08/08/2019 07:07

Morning all

I'm 10 hours 23 minutes into my 16:8 plan. Feel a bit hungry. Weighed myself and have lost nothing. Emotionally not very well today so even half a pound would have been welcome. At least there's no chocolate in the house.

Does anyone know anything about Ella and Kind bars?

Laura221 · 08/08/2019 07:18

Ok so my Official starting weight for august was- 11 stone 0.5 lbs

First week weigh in is 10 stone 13 1/4 lbs.

So a loss of 1 .25 lbs

I'm happy with that :)

Have a lovely day everyone. I'm finding this thread really helpful at staying on track.

Foreverlexicon · 08/08/2019 07:33

I’m feeling a bit fed up and cross with myself. I keep making excuses for myself. As a result, my weight is up from where it has been.

I got up to run today and instead ate biscuits. Fgs.

I’ll have the rest of Im my meals as planned today then knuckle down and get strict.

I have 4.5 weeks to go working 9-5 before a week off and return to shifts so I want to make them count!

SunshineCake · 08/08/2019 07:43

Just went to the loo and weighed myself again and I'm 1.5 lbs down Confused.

Not posting weight as it's looking like I'm the fattest Sad.

New day, ForeverLexicon.

RiddleyW · 08/08/2019 07:59

I don’t think you’ll be fatter than me Sunshine.

galvantula · 08/08/2019 07:59

1.5lb is great Sunshine!

I'm reading a whole 0.2kg down today. 😂

Cary2012 · 08/08/2019 08:00

Morning all. 1½lb down from last week, which is ok. Some of you are being a bit hard on yourselves, please stop, you are all awesome. Just attempting this with everything else we have to juggle is admirable. We'll get there Flowers

BustedDreams · 08/08/2019 08:14

Good Morning lost first post as I got distracted with the spam post. I clicked to report not realising I’d lose what I had typed. Doh!

Here some high Protein meals to inspire.

@SunshineCake I have the maple, glazed pecan and sea salt one. Rather delicious, gluten & dairy free. Not low calories but handy to have in bag if out and about and can’t get a suitable lunch. Or a treat with a cuppa after evening meal. Not tried the Ella bars.

@FiveShelties
Wow 😮New Zealand. Never been but have always wanted to visit there and Australia. Nearly booked a cruise that took in both places, but then circumstances changed and it didn’t happen. The thought was there though Grin Don’t be hard on yourself. Weekends are to be enjoyed. Are you near goal. Weight loss slows the nearer you get to where you want to be. Mine has slowed down. I know I won’t hit 7lb this month, or perhaps any month now as I have now lost 28lbs and have about 14lbs to go.

Nonetheless these threads are very helpful and full of support, and I’m grateful for any loss.

MrsJonesAndMe · 08/08/2019 08:27

Well, the scales confirm 2.5kg/5.5lbs Shock

Well done for all the loses regardless of how big or small or even no loss but changing habits. That's where I know I will fall down. Letting things creep back in.

So that will be my focus - lifestyle change.

cheesenpickles · 08/08/2019 08:36

@chutneypig work is a HUGE spanner in the works for me sometimes. Part of my job is eating out at restaurants and I can't really restrict what I eat. Thankfully it's been a bit quiet this month but in Sept I'll be eating out at least once a week. Trying to lose as much as possible before that.

In other news I'm down 1.4lbs. I'm 2lbs from the 11s!!! Haven't been remotely near the 11's in a decade! Grin

BustedDreams · 08/08/2019 08:42

@MrsJonesAndMe & @cheesenpickles well done 👍 Great progress!

OP posts:
Jollyholibobs · 08/08/2019 08:50

Hi all. I am just back from hols 4lbs heavier than when I left. So checking in and aiming to repair the damage by the end of the month. Started the day with extra helping at breakfast. Definitely have got into bad habits.

@cheesenpickles great results and I like the sound of your job despite the weight loss challenge it presents!

cheesenpickles · 08/08/2019 09:05

That's not a bad gain for a holiday @Jollyholibobs Hope you had a good time!

It's a fun job but a lot more work and faff behind the scenes than people would know. It's also made me really nit picky so when I go out socially or with family I'm extra critical (internally, I'm not a dick Grin) about where we are and the food. Problem is a lot of the places I go for work I can't afford in real life so I'm all spoilt now. Blush

doadeer · 08/08/2019 09:06

I've just had a huge moan to my mum and DP about how enormous I feel. The picture someone took of me yesterday... I look so big. Im trying so hard and with a baby but I just feel like my hips are gigantic. I was a fit 10 before my son, now I'm a 16.

Got yoga again today so im really going to push myself and no treats.

Just weighed myself again and I'm 13st 3 - thats 3lbs down from last week. Need to just stay consistent.

Does anyone know how many calories a latte with skimmed milk is from a coffee shop - small size?

cheesenpickles · 08/08/2019 09:18

@doadeer based on a talk Starbucks about 100 calories. Photos are always my undoing and I hate seeing other people's pictures of me. They're getting better but if you look different to how you look in your head it can really deflate you.

Hope yoga goes well. Doing my first clubbercise class today and quite excited!

doadeer · 08/08/2019 09:23

Ohhh clubercise sounds fun!! Love how varied classes are.

I'm still suffering after affects of PGP it's lingering annoyingly so I can't do high intensity. Hoping low impact toning and lots of walking with pram will be enough

cheesenpickles · 08/08/2019 09:32

Eugh that sucks! I had horrendous hyper mobility until my youngest weaned from all the relaxin and even now I still roll my ankles in a blink.
