Following on from the July thread for those who wish to carry on and for new joiners alike.

Ive been inspired by the ladies who posted on the July thread. There have been some awesome losses.

Not quite the end of the month and I’ve achieved my July goal of getting below the elusive 140lbs. As of this morning I was 139.6lbs, bmi 27.3. Down from 145.9lbs, bmi 28.5.

I’m doing a lower carb Mediterranean diet. Plenty of veg, some berries, salad, olive oil, butter, cream, fish, chicken and some red meat. Occasionally I will have whole grain rice and gluten free pasta (good for my micro biome). I rarely drink alcohol. Chocolate can be my downfall Grin. I naturally only want to eat twice a day. I’ve read that intermittent fasting can be beneficial in the battle of the bulge as well as keeping blood sugars in check.

How do you intend to lose?

Any tips you’d like to share?

My tips are drink plenty of water and be mindful of portion sizes.

Thank you very much BustedDreams. I'm struggling as I'm brilliant at making sure everyone else is well fed with a variety of things but don't value myself to accept I'm worth all the extra effort. I'll eat most things but the rest of the family are fussy.

At the moment I can't have -
Aspartame (not a bad thing).
Baked beans
Haddock
Leek
Onion (annoying)
Plaice
Prawns (Sad)
Rice (unhelpful)
Turmeric
Wheat
And I'm lactose free too.

Dinner tonight is roast chicken, carrots, baby new potatoes, sweet corn and maybe more veg. Eaten a bit bitty today and having just as a difficult chat with dd I just want to eat all the Lindt chocolate.

Laura221 · 06/08/2019 17:21

Is there any one calorie counting which is veggie? I feel a bit stuck food wise. I feel like I'm just eating carbs. Any suggestions for low calorie and veggie breakfast and lunches. I'm not a massive fan of eggs tho.

Cary2012 · 06/08/2019 18:03

Evening lovelies! Lots to catch up, will read thread later when I get the chance! Hope you're all well. Breakie: Overnight Allbran, fruit and Greek Yogurt. Lunch: Tablespoon of hummus, boiled egg and loads of carrot and cucumber sticks. Dinner will be two baked sausages, loads of steamed veg. Onward and downward Wink

Hi - Please can I join to. Back from holiday and weighed in today at 9st 8.5 - am only 5ft 3 and it is showing. To be honest it was starting to go upwards before the holiday....Am 50 in October and am determined to get back to 9st 2ish. Trying to do 14:10 and mfp- not had a good day though Blush. Need to find some willpower and self discipline- am not nice when I'm hangry!!

rushka · 06/08/2019 19:53

oh my word @Rassy... I'm 5ft3 and would love to b e 9.8st!!! Sigh! If I get there I will be so chuffed! Welcome to the group, it's a great one :)

StepAwayFromTheChoc · 06/08/2019 20:34

@Laura221 I'm veggie but just tend to make normal meals eg curry/chilli/bolognaise but loaded with vegetables/lentils/beans and replace the carb element of the meal with a big salad.

My first proper fast day today was really easy

StepAwayFromTheChoc · 06/08/2019 20:37

@Rassy I'm also 5ft3 but your starting weight is my target weight Grin

Alaimo · 06/08/2019 22:02

@Laura221, I am but do eat loads of eggs while dieting. Breakfast is usually fruit & yoghurt. I like Linda McCartney veggie sausages with various evening meals as they're flavoured but not very high in calories.

BustedDreams · 06/08/2019 22:21

@Laura221 I’ve heard these two cooks/chefs create tasty veggie/vegan dishes. I’m not sure if it’s calorie counted for you of if you need to work it out your self. The Bosh Brothers

Some really interesting discussion on here yesterday, it’s good reading.

I found adjusting my thinking around MFP was a great help. I treat it like s hobby and enjoy the time now I sit down fiddling with my menus. For me the protein that @BustedDreams mentioned is key. I’m always hungrier if go for more low calorie, carby snack options than protein, but it does take more planning.

Fibre has been the real eye opener for me, I aim for 35g a day which seems to suit me but it’s when I’m out and about and have choices, thinking what has fibre in helps make a good choice.

Yesterday was a blip day but as everyone’s rightly said it’s one meal.

I’m not veggie @Laura221 but Skyr yogurt is a go to for me, high protein and not high in calories. It’s very filling.

Laura221 · 07/08/2019 07:12

Thanks everyone for suggestions! I'm going to give yoghurt and fruit a go for breakfast and sausage and vegetable sticks for lunch and see how that goes.

Have a good day everyone. Today is a work day for me so it's easier to stick to my plans x

Laura221 · 07/08/2019 07:21

Just had a sneaky weigh in and and I'm finally in the 10 stone bracket!! Which according to mfp I haven't seen since Nov 2017! Very pleased. Will officially update my weight tomorrow as Thursdays are my weigh day but I couldn't not share :)

BustedDreams · 07/08/2019 07:25

Good Morning you lovely lot. Another day, another opportunity to choose well.

@chutneypig I totally agree about fibre, but like most people I don’t always give it a thought. Fibre is also very important for health reasons too as it helps transit Blush

Food today - Omelette for lunch and fish & veg for evening meal.

Whatever you’ve planned, have a good one!

Feeling grim today on period. 🙁 Already shouted at everyone. Yesterday had espresso then two fried eggs in butter with asparagus and a bit of smoked salmon for lunch. Dinner homemade cream of courgette soup. A few olives and manchego/Parma ham rollitos for snack. Managed exercise and dog walk and 10K steps. Did the scales budge? No they did not. Today will have eggs and avo for lunch with tomatoes. Dinner steak and spinach. Have a good one! Bit depressed about rain...

butterwithtoast · 07/08/2019 07:46

One week down and I've lost 2lbs which I'm happy with. I've mostly stuck to my healthy plan, although a difficult day with the 2yr old and the baby yesterday meant I missed lunch and then caved and snacked on chocolate in the evening. But I didn't overdo it on the chocolate, and I didn't reach for the wine, so maybe I can see that as a win? Anyway, still steadily losing the weight and on track to get below 12 stone by the end of the month.

cheesenpickles · 07/08/2019 07:49

Yay @Laura221. I'm down a massive 0.1lb but actually that's not bad. My weight loss has massively slowed down this week but I've been struggling to get my activity up because I'm busy.

Had a big chat with my husband last night about clothes and decided that I'm going to start selling off my "big" clothes, eBay buy some in-between weight loss stuff and start looking at building a capsule wardrobe when I get to target. I always end up wearing the same old stuff every day and have drawers and a wardrobe filled with stuff I'll never wear again.

He has bought me a lovely sustainable clothing bundle from an indie outfit down my way as a birthday gift and they offer send back for credit so I can switch sizes later. I think I'm going to start renting outfits for special occasions as well.

RiddleyW · 07/08/2019 07:57

I’m really despondent I just can’t seem to get the scales to move. I’m going to try really hard to give it another week. I can’t go on like this, I’m so sad.

BustedDreams · 07/08/2019 08:15

@RiddleyW & @dancingmom just wanted to give a reassuring hug to you both (I know, that’s not cool). As hard as it is try to visualise where you’d both be if you’d not eaten healthy all this time. I’ve no advice really as there are that many variables that come into play. In regards to hormonal fluctuations just prior to my totm I used to gain up to 11lbs, yes you read that right. Gain up to 11lbs. Water and waste Blush. Then once I started my period, whoosh. Talk about poophoria, I’d be walking on air man Grin

Lunch: jacket with mayo, ham, cheese and salad

Snack: melon and or nuts

Tea: Pulled pork, rice and more salad

Snack: pop corn

Official weigh in tomorrow, but looks good at the moment despite TOTM Smile

MarvelMum3 · 07/08/2019 09:03

@galvantula Definitely taking yourself away from temptation makes life easier! ha ha Glad to hear things are going well!

@suchsweetsorrow82 You oculd have had a bic mac and a mcflurry - so you should be pleased you made a healthy choice! Also you're so active I doubt 100 calories is going to make a difference!

@SunshineCake You are 100% worth the extra effort! Taking time to look after yourself will mean you can look after your family better! Flowers

@Laura221 Breakfast ideas: porridge and fruit? Yogurt, fruit and maybe some nuts?
Lunch ideas: Jacket potato with beans, vegetable curries, bean chillies, wrap with veggies and quorn slices? Trying to think what I used to eat when I was veggie but I can honestly only think of mac and cheese which isn’t helpful! Grin

@Cary2012 That sounds like an awesome day of food! But I have to ask, is overnight allbran like overnight oats? I might have to try if that’s the case!

@Rassy Welcome!

@StepAwayFromTheChoc Welldone on your first fast day! And well done on turning down the biscuits! It’s really hard when people are offering you food, sometimes you can feel rude for saying no!

@chutneypig That is an excellent point about fibre! Especially as it means you’re more likely to go for wholegrain options as well as fruit and veg. And you immediately cut out most sugary options - an apple is always going to have more fibre than a brownie!

@Laura221 Congratulations! That’s an awesome achievement!

@dancingmom Try not to feel bad about the scale - you’re going to retain water on your period, and that’s probably why the scale isn’t moving! Focus on the fact you made awesome food choices yesterday and will make awesome food choices today. Stay consistent and the results will show!

@butterwithtoast 2lbs is an amazing weight loss, well done!! And definitely take last night as a win! You could have easily overeaten on the chocolate and had the wine - a smaller amount of chocolate is a healthier choice!

@cheesenpickles 0.1lb down is still 0.1lb in the right direction! And yes to selling off ‘big’ clothes and clothes that you aren’t going to wear anymore - someone else can use and love them and you can get clothes that make you feel great about yourself now. Because that’s the thing, just because we aren’t at our ‘target’ weights, doesn’t mean we don’t deserve awesome clothes now!

@BustedDreams Poophoria is now my new favourite word Grin

So weigh in day for me! Down to 120.8kg (a number on my scale I believe after it playing up yesterday) so that’s 0.5kg down! I’ll take that!

Stayed on plan with food yesterday and didn’t have any crazy late night snacks! This was helped by the fact my OH kindly looked after baby for most of last night (he is going back to work tomorrow and works nights so is the process of swapping his sleep pattern back). But baby was so poorly last night I did get woken up a few times to help soothe her and I’ve been awake since 4 this morning so OH can get some sleep! Baby has finally fallen asleep in her wrap after only sleeping for 10 minutes at a time all night but she does keep waking up every half hour to cry... (I don’t know what happened but she had really bad wind last night and nothing was settling her). So I’ve managed to shove some plain toast and a cold coffee down me for breakfast. Going to have a banana and go for a quick ten minute walk in the hopes to wake me up a bit and settle baby!

Food might be a write off today though, OH’s friends all organised to come and visit baby on the same day and on his last day of paternity leave. OH did have a word with them about this and asked them to come down earlier and they all through hissy fits and he conceded. So I have four separate people visiting today, OH trying to squeeze in naps between guests because he has to be awake all night and a very unsettled baby. If I get to eat lunch or dinner today I am going to be impressed. But I shall check in later and let you know how it all goes!

butterwithtoast · 07/08/2019 10:29

@MarvelMum3 good luck with your busy day today! And don't forget to be kind to yourself. Sleep deprivation and a poorly baby is so hard. Rest and eat when you can and hopefully things get easier for you soon!
