Lose 7lbs in July

Anyone else want to? I’d love some company.

I’ve been yoyoing the same 7lb for a while. I’d like it gone for good and then some.

I base my food intake around low carb, moderate fat & moderate protein. Think Mediterranean diet. I do watch my calorie intake too. I have the occasional tipple of alcohol. I generally don’t have processed foods and make meals from scratch. Although sometimes life gets in the way and needs must.

How do you intend to lose?

Any tips you’d like to share?

My tips are drink plenty of water and be mindful of portion sizes.

Busted I think you’re doing a good job in motivating us!

I’ve done ok today, apart forgetting to weigh myself this morning. I did sneak in a packet of crisps... don’t know how I’m going to break that habit.

Dinner is sausages and mash - will try portion control and have 2 sausages rather than 3 or 4.

Find it hard to think of meals that fussy DC will also eat, maybe I need to start doing a separate meal for me.

Does anyone do separate meals and how do you manage it without making DC realise you’re on a diet? I struggle with this as don’t want to pass this yo-yo dieting habit on.

DrDiva · 01/07/2019 17:08

weknowfrogs yay! (That’s for the staying bit, not for the not being able to run away!!)

Well so much for the no alcohol Hmm although I should have known that today wasn’t the best day to start that. We had our final exam board, and we always go to the pub afterwards - it’s the one day in the year that our supremely lovely team get the time to socialise together. Oh well, maybe I can not drink one weekend day to compensate.

Gonegardening · 01/07/2019 17:47

VeThings I had sausages with jacket potato and broccoli today too. Sausages generally not the best but all we had in. I cook a lot from the Hairy Bikers diet books. I have 3DS so nearly everything I make has to be eaten by them too (some in these books are now family favourites) but there are quite a few meals that I can easily batch cook and have when they’re having something I’m trying to avoid eg pizza, pies etc. I’ve also just bought the Pinch of Nom book to mix things up a bit. I find making a meal plan and trying to stick to it helps me generally eat better and avoid the more calorie filled alternatives. Also have been eating lots of different salads.

FiveMoreMinutesPlease · 01/07/2019 18:21

I'd love to join if possible. I weigh 13st 5lbs and would love to get to 12st anything.
I can do it in the week but really struggle with temptation at the weekend. Going to try and use MFP to help me.

Nettleskeins · 01/07/2019 18:54

weighed myself and I've gone from 91 kg to 89 kg this first week (well a bit less than a week)

Sunday I managed to put away a small cornetto (one of those supermarket packs ones) as well as not snacking Blush but it was so delicious I forgive myself.

I've stayed off bread and biscuits minus that cone though.

This morning when I felt desperately bored I had a spoonful of ground almonds. or three...seem to hit the spot like sweet carbs.

Lunch was raw broad beans, tinned cannellini beans, cherry tomatoes, and chunks of boursin. No oil, it didn't seem to need it. Delicious and timeconsuming.

Finding the biggest problem with dieting is I get bored, eating is quite fun isn't it..

Nettleskeins · 01/07/2019 18:55

I've been walking a lot with the dog, and it seems to make me cope better though and makes me feel much less bored than I might!! And a bit more energetic perhaps.

Therealjudgejudy · 01/07/2019 19:13

Can u join? Was on a thread last year and it was very motivating. Im great at the exercise just need to control my calories. Going on holiday in 5 weeks and idealy want to loose 9lbs.

Currently 9st 9lbs. Today i started with a 5km run and a circuit of weights. I also did a 45 min walk this evening. I just really need to sort out my carb cravings...Confused

Furble · 01/07/2019 19:28

Good first day here, thanks to the motivation on this thread!

Breakfast: Two coffees with whole milk
Lunch: Homemade coronation chicken with lettuce, peppers, new potatoes.
Strawberries and raspberries
Dinner: Small portion pasta and super veg sauce (bbcgoodfood recipe)
Snacks: Becks blue and one wedge of leftover frittata.
Exercise: 40 minute walk in the woods with the pram.
Feeling lighter already and have had more water than usual which is great!
Hope everyone has had a good first day.

@Thismummyruns Congrats on your new baby! What do you have? I’ve a second son who is as good as gold so far. I’ve also three stone to lose so very similar goals!

GandalfTheGoat · 01/07/2019 20:05

Checking in - I've had a good day but splurged on syns with dinner without realising.

B- coffee
L - small jacket potato with tuna, a bit of cheese and salad.
D - chicken, sweet potato and spinach curry with rice, didn't realise how many syns were in reduced fat creme fraiche! I've never used it before.

The curry was nice though.

Hope everyone's had a successful day!

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 01/07/2019 20:29

I didn't plan very well as my shopping isn't coming until tomorrow -I get midweek deliveries - so today is written off and I will start afresh tomorrow food wise.

I have done some time on the exercise bike though, which is good for me. 😊

Wenchelda · 01/07/2019 20:36

Just checking in and fairly happy as I’ve just put all my food into MFP and I’m just under my allowance. (Although I am giving myself 1600 cals, which i know is probably about 400 more than I should be having when dieting but I don’t want to restrict myself so much that I can’t stick to it and then just give up. Plus 1600 has got to be quite a bit less than the ridiculous amount of stuff I’ve got into the habit of eating so still an improvement!)

Anyway :
B - tea; 2 hard boiled eggs & a few cherry tomatoes
L - cappuccino; ham & cream cheese bagel, salad, few tortilla crisps
D - sausages (only had 2 instead of my usual 3 or 4Blush), potato wedges, spaghetti hoops. Small choc mousse.
Snacks - handful of pumpkin & sunflower seeds. Few grapes.

Food shopping tomorrow so will try and resist all the good (bad?) stuff Grin

LosingLola · 01/07/2019 20:39

Today went pretty well. I've stuck within my calories and I'm on target to meet my steps goal.

I found some San Pellegrino drinks in Co-op that are low calorie - they claim to be zero calorie on the front but they're actually 2. I had dark cherry and pomegranate flavour, but they also had tangerine and strawberry. I don't usually like sparkling water but thought it was lovely.

Chickenitalia · 01/07/2019 20:56

Those drinks sound nice @LosingLola, I had a browse today and came home with lime cordial and soda water which was recommended as being nice, will crack that open in a bit. Fanta grape flavour was sadly just chemical in taste.
Today has gone well, exante bar for today was white choc and raspberry which was surprisingly filling, but mainly felt just a bit functional, like it had nutrients etc but wasn’t real food. However I wasn’t hungry until dinner time so that was good.
Dinner was chicken breast coated in 0% Greek yoghurt and spices, baked, with pepper, leek, broccoli, runner beans and courgette, either boiled or roasted with the chicken. Bit of butter to taste but it was lovely. My stomach is making a heck of a racket now tho!

Well done on today everyone, if you aren’t so happy with how it’s gone, remember tomorrow you can start again. Onwards and downwards (weight wise I mean 😁) xxx

VeThings · 01/07/2019 21:09

@Gonegardening thanks for the cookbook tips.

I’ve been researching diets and think the easier for me is 5:2. If I do the 2 low cal days when DC are having beige freezer food, they wont be surprised as they know I don’t like that food.

My two days will be Wed and Fri this week - will keep checking in to see how everyone’s getting on.

Rshard · 01/07/2019 21:14

Fab that the thread is so busy, really interested to read about everyone’s approaches.

damnitdamnit · 01/07/2019 21:14

Well first weigh in today and lost 2.5lb so I'm pretty happy. Just got to keep it up now.

It's good to see lots of ideas and support. I'm using my fitness pal when I remember and it helps that it links to my Fitbit so i can see any extra calories allowed after exercise. Last week I banked them till the weekend and I seemed to work so going to do that again.

WhatALearningCurve · 01/07/2019 21:24

Finished for the day - incredibly happy with myself and just gotta try and replicate this every day and I'll have lost a stone in 5 weeks apparently! Not sure how achievable it is in reality but it's nice to know it's a possibility

Quick check in - wow such a busy thread! Go us!!!

Breakfast: 2 coffees
Lunch; small bit of leftover lasagne plus enormous salad
Tea: roasted vegetables, an avocado, some mozzarella and a teeny glass of wine

All comes to 1129 and I’ve done over 10,000 steps today. I feel quite proud that both meals today were basically half vegetables and I might try to do that tomorrow too.

DrDiva · 01/07/2019 21:47

Well, I completely forgot that I had posted on the weaning thread, open my “Threads I’m On” and the first thing I read is a post beginning “bananas and breast milk”. I was ShockShockShock until I remembered that the diet thread wasn’t my only active one!!

I have just finished doing the Shred Halo

chutneypig · 01/07/2019 22:01

I aim for 1600 @Wenchelda and have been steadily losing on that. It feels pretty realistic today.

That said, didn’t manage it today, but thanks to this thread and @BustedDreams I didn’t use it as en excuse to stuff myself this evening.

Breakfast - Huel shake
snack - banana
Lunch - salmon sandwich and crisps
Inadvertent meal on train - quiche and bread and cous cous
Dinner - prawn salad and I could have had a delicious French dinner. And I stuck to sparkling water.

@Therealjudgejudy I find I really get carb urges when I’m exercising more. I’m training for a half and trying to carefully up carbs to fuel the runs bu not get carried away. If I don’t increase them a bit after the run I end up ravenous by evening.

Also managed to hit my water target today which can be a bit hit and miss travelling, so pleased with that as well.

MsMustDoBetter · 01/07/2019 22:08

I'm in!

Have had a stomach bug since last night - hopefully that will help me reset.

I intend to cut down on carbs, up on Veg and salad. To eat less biscuits and crisps and more fruit. Cut down alcohol to one or two nights a week max.

I just need to break some bad habits and set new good ones and I expect that the pounds will fall away by themselves...

BustedDreams · 01/07/2019 22:30

@VeThings Thank you

A warm welcome to all the new joiners. The thread seems to have a positive buzz about it. Some positives starts reported ... all motivating and encouraging to the rest of us.

@Therealjudgejudy that’s the thing I find with exercise. It revs up my appetite and cravings to such an extent it negates the exercise 😖. Swimming I find particularly bad for that. Well done nonetheless.

@WhatALearningCurve I love mfp and use it daily but it’s yet to correctly predict my losses!

@MikeHannigansStripyShirt get you trail blazer. That’s a great day to be reflecting on.

@DrDiva 🤣🤣🤣

I shut the food chute at 1150, a bit high and will adjust accordingly the rest of the week.

Home made soup, lunch & Lamb saag & cauliflower rice for dinner planned for tomorrow.

@Gonegardening I use different books to inspire when meal planning. I love my cook books.

I better post before this post goes puffff ... tagged names keep disappearing and such. Gremlins in the machine.

Let’s do it all again tomorrow 😁

Well I have just finished the day at 60000 steps. Am on a step challenge for July with my bootcamp. Had four pints with my friend this evening but hopefully that balances out.

Good luck everyone. It is a marathon not a sprint!

FiveShelties · 02/07/2019 01:42

@Sharpkat - that is a lot of steps and a really good start for your July challenge. I usually do around 11,000, but failed yesterday and only managed 8279 - I am blaming jetlag.

Thismummyruns · 02/07/2019 05:49

I'm awake feeding the little one catching up on last night posts.

Thank you @BustedDreams! My motivation purely falls at my pre-pregnancy clothes. I'm a miserable size 16/18 with only gorgeous size 12 summer dresses 🙁
@Furble Congrats to you! I had our 2nd girl, she's scrumptious! I'm now done with reproducing though 😆

Yesterday wasn't the worst day for me, I did have a little dark chocolate but that's an improvement from devouring the entire large bar! Hit 10,000 steps too.

Want to do a chicken curry for dinner tonight for all the family so needs to be mild. Any good 'diet' recipe recommendations!?
