Rubbish few days here. Day 2 of migraine, day 15 of really nasty sore throat & cough. Coughing with a migraine feels like my head is going to explode. DD possibly has a D&V bug as well. But, I've got a couple of packs of protein powder weight loss shakes to try out. Having this one for breakfast - it's not very strawberry flavoured, more coconut TBH but fairly pleasant. Disperses ok in a shaker cup but there's quite a bit of chia seed in it, so it needs a blender to make it properly smooth for drinking.
I have a couple more to try out, plus some plain whey powder for adding to porridge, yoghurt, etc. I think one of my big stumbling blocks to weight loss is DH - I have migraines an awful lot & often rely on him to prep my meals when I do. He's not into healthy eating when he's tired... more like takeaway kebabs as they're easier. So if I have some shakes he's got no excuse.

When I can bend down without feeling nauseous, I need to deal with DD's bedroom carpet. We just gave up last night, dealt with the worst of it, & put a towel down in case she was sick again & missed the bucket. Poor little thing.

Eattothebeat · 30/04/2019 06:29

Still plodding on here. Weekend wasn't too bad and Monday is always a bit of a transition day for me but I'm back on it with a vengeance today. Still trying to get under 9 stone and hovering just above but I am determined to make May the month I break through the barrier.

AwdBovril · 30/04/2019 06:39

Migraine is gone! And at my weigh-in last night, I am still just at my 5% target. 10st 4lb (I think). Would be nice to lose some more before the end of the WL programme though, I've got another 4 weeks of meetings to go. I'm not going to the gym today though - house looks like a bombsite after the Easter holidays & my migraine (DH & DD always manage to trash the place when I'm not around). I have lots to do today anyway, errands-wise. May will be the month I break the barrier down to the 9st category, I am determined.

WhoAteMyNuts · 30/04/2019 08:04

Starting 71.4
Current 64.9
Goal 60

Only 0.2kg down this week but I seem to be very up and down each day so clearly fluctuating (was 0.6 down yesterday but today is the official one)

beela · 30/04/2019 13:01

@Holibobsing some of that has to be water weight, I can't believe you put on that much weight in 2 days! Bloating due to lots of salty foods or alcohol maybe?

I'm back down to 60.5kg today. I've done some batch cooking to prep healthy lunches this week, and made a meal plan for the evenings. I'm also having a big glass of water with every meal, and alongside every cuppa. Surely I can lose a couple of lb and get myself into the 50s? (I did touch them briefly, then Easter happened!).

Holibobsing · 30/04/2019 13:36

Seriously hoping so @beela. Scales havnt budged today though. I only ever drink alcohol once in a very blue moon but when I do, I go for it. I had probably quarter bottle of vodka , probably 6 bottles of larger. I'm thinking that the McDonald's salt might have contributed to water retention.

MenstruatorExtraordinaire · 30/04/2019 19:48

I'm struggling this week.

Haven't lost anything but did have a terrible weekend.

Thisimmortalcurl · 30/04/2019 20:32

Well done to the losers and some keep going positivity to those who’s scales aren’t budging or are going the wrong way.
I’ve not been that bad over the last few days but the scales have not moved and I remain to have 6lb to go that are so difficult to shift.
I have a hotel overnight tomorrow and a gig to go to .. this means dinner out/ wine and breakfast in the morning .
Part of me wants to indulge yet the other part feels the weight loss is taking long enough and I should try to be as healthy as possible.
I gain so easily so even though it’s nust two meals that will def make the scales go up.
It’s not fair being short and over 40.

Holibobsing · 30/04/2019 22:35

Thisimmortal - I'm with yer on the over 40. If it helps, I had such a laugh during my overindulgence, glad I did but learnt the 5lb is crazy and not worth the agro it's now produced. I will learn by my mistakes next time and at least drink water in between and maybe try to remember to fill up on fibre instead of hangover soaky uppy junk.
If there was ever a positive out of this, I think the hangover felt worse on Monday due to fast food than the Sunday alcohol aftermath so healthy eating since making everything a lot better!

Holibobsing · 01/05/2019 13:23

Update from binge ; 3lbs of it gone , so was some water retention. Thats 3lbs since start of thread. 4 to go by 21 May. Would like the surplus 2 off by weekend.
I can do this.
Will drink 6 glasses of water daily, eat lean protein, small carbs and a third of plate veg/fruit.

londonloves · 01/05/2019 14:16

Hi, haven't caught up on the whole thread but I'm back to my pre Easter weekend wine and food binge weight. I reallllly want to shift 8lb before I fly to Greece in three weeks... is this possible?! That would get me to 11 stone 5 which is the top of healthy BMI for my height. Eventual goal is about another stone after that.
Am cutting down in wine, using Lose It app for calorie tracking, upping gym and swimming.

Caggie09 · 01/05/2019 17:26

Well i didnt have a great day yesterday, ive had a good morning, but im too lazy so getting a takeaway for tea. I did have good intentions. Back to it tomorrow, doubt ill get a loss this week.

millionaireshortie · 01/05/2019 18:16

I'm in!

I've done well the past month. I want another 7 pounds off in May.

I'm finding I have to consistently eat less than 1000 each day to see results (2 pounds per week).

It's amazing how little you need as we age.

RiveterRosie · 01/05/2019 18:21

Hi, I'd like to join in. I'm new on mumsnet, I've been a reader of threads for a long time but have joined today so that I could take part in this weight loss thread.

I'm a lot overweight - my BMI is 32 - and want to lose weight because I know that at my age (47) I am setting myself up for poor health now and later in life. I also look awful. I lack confidence anyway and I have really "let myself go" . I caught sight of myself in the bathroom mirror today and I really do need to take myself in hand - fat; greying straw instead of hair; spotty grey face; bushy brows..... Ugh, it was horrible.

My thoughts are that I am aiming to lose 2lb a week, so 8lb during May. Do you think that will be a manageable amount? I'll be cutting down carbs and cutting out the unhealthy snacks - crisps, chocolates, salted nuts, cheese and crackers, biscuits, that I am so fond of.

Holibobsing · 01/05/2019 19:04

Hi RiveterRosie . Yes I do. Put away or bin if you have to the biscuits, choc, nuts and generally anything beige. Think fresh produce all the time- a third of the meal, veg or fruit. You could try a 7 day slimming world plan to get you kick started (easily googled for free template).

A few of us have noticed changes over 40 , so you're far from alone. Get a good start and good luck. Aim to chip away at the pounds rather than the bigger picture. You will feel better and start to like the way you are energised from healthy start.

LadyBrienneofTarth · 02/05/2019 18:08

@RiveterRosie welcome - you're in good company - key here is to commit to yourself - no one but you can do this and no one but you puts food in your mouth - for me this has been a long road to realization - the only person who sabotages myself is me - I can't blame anyone else and no one else can do this for me

each person finds things that work for them - for me it's using MyFitnessPal and trying to eat 50% of my daily intake as protein - then just get out an move if it's only just a 10 minute walk to start - for me it's as much about mental health than anything - when we are optimistic is easier to stick to our plan and a brisk walk with fresh air tends to help that

My downfall is wine - I have a long commute and travel a lot with work and a lung formed habit is the glass of wine or two at the end of the day - my body just can't cope with the extra calories at my age and I've ballooned in weight - I just need to not drink wine and replace that wind down with a better habit - like an after dinner walk with the dog or yoga via YouTube in the lounge or a cup of tea and a book ....

The only person who can achieve my goals is me and I'm the only thing that is preventing me from losing the weight

LadyBrienneofTarth · 02/05/2019 18:09

Long formed not lung formed

beela · 03/05/2019 15:01

Whoop whoop! Snuck in at 59.9kg today!

Plan for the weekend is moderation.

RiveterRosie · 03/05/2019 21:59

My "danger" time is between about 4.30pm and 7pm the time when I have my dinner. Today, for example I ate moderately and healthily for breakfast and for lunch and had a fruit snack at 11, but then in a frenzied couple of hours before my dinner I ate a round of bread & butter, 4 Quality Street, a Yorkie Bar while I was buying petrol, three handfuls of salted nuts and 3 cream crackers spread with butter. It was pretty much the same yesterday too.

So, I'd really appreciate some advice about satisfying, tasty and low calorie things I can use as a snack during that time. I'm sure I'm not the only person who feels the need to snack sometime between lunch and dinner, how do others on this thread deal with it?

beela · 04/05/2019 06:57

@RiveterRosie that's my danger time too.

My 3 tips are:

  • emergency glass of full fat milk. This sometimes satisfies me enough to power on through.
  • proper snack on a plate. If I stop and eat something mindfully then I'll most likely have something nutritious rather than empty calories. Ryvita and cream cheese or avocado is a favourite at the moment.
  • eat tea earlier. I sometimes don't manage to eat until 8.30 which is far too late when lunch was at 12.30! But if I eat with dc at 5.30 then I don't usually feel the need to snack in the evening.
Suenahmi · 04/05/2019 10:03

I have just had my weekly weigh in. Im at 10 st 6. So lost 4 pounds since i re-started. I had got down to 10.4 before I had a bad month and regained. My ultimate goal is to get to 9 st 10, which will mean a total loss of 3 stone since January 18. I'm hoping to get there for July.

RiviterRosie i also binge while cooking or waiting for food to cook. Its like I lose all control. I am trying having a sugar free boiled sweet to suck on to stop the mindless shoving food in my face. Worked ok for last two days, so fingers crossed this will help.

Suenahmi · 04/05/2019 10:04

Well done @beela

LadyBrienneofTarth · 04/05/2019 16:07

@RiveterRosie someone suggested this to me for cooking / food prep - I felt silly but it did stop me putting food in my mouth

Restart- new half a stone for summer
LadyBrienneofTarth · 04/05/2019 16:08

@beela congrats 🎈🎉🍾🎊

You've given me further inspiration - I hope I will be posting the exact same thing sometime this year

Thisimmortalcurl · 05/05/2019 12:50

Checking in , currently 4lb’s away from target . Mixed week but overall doing okay . The aim is to try really hard to be at target for the 14 th may . I’m not sure if I will do it but I hope so as I’m getting something done that I have wanted for years and it’s meant to be my reward for getting to target which I booked around the time that the first thread started . I’ll have to really focus .
