Hi all... OK the sun is shining but the summer wardrobe just doesn't fit. I know that this is a temporary blip in the weather and it will rain next week but I would love to be a stone lighter by the time summer starts for real. I feel miserable - anyone want to join me. Starting tomorrow.

I was doing okay until about lunchtime yesterday . Went to the in-laws and ended up eating and drinking lots
Back on it today though .. scales even before yesterday are stuck though it seems.
I think I will get the exercise bike out tonight .

MorrisZapp · 18/03/2019 18:23

Well I had a shocking weekend but it was a family party and a great time was had by all so I'm just going to get back on it.

It's not so much the booze itself, its feeding the goddamn hangover.

beela · 18/03/2019 19:18

My fitbit tells me I have burnt 670 calories by exercising today. Circuits class plus a long walk. I reckon that might cancel out the scone with jam and cream that I had for lunch Blush (wtf is wrong with me??).

On the plus side, the only other things I have eaten have been a slice of toast for breakfast and a chicken salad for tea. Lots of redbush tea and water for drinks, no snacking.

Not sure if that counts as a successful day or not! I guess the scales will tell me at the end of the week.

sparklyglitterball · 18/03/2019 20:03

Hi, I'd like to join. Had dc number 3 four month ago, and trying to lose the baby weight and get back into shape. I'm breastfeeding so not doing anything too drastic diet wise........trying to log my food ont my fitness pal daily but not always remembering! Trying to stick to porridge or eggs and toast for breakfast, soap/salad/ryvitas etc for lunch, and a healthy dinner with lots of veg. I have a sweet tooth, so allow myself a little treat of chocolate or ice cream in the evenings once dc are in bed. Had a quick read through this thread, you're all doing well and it's interesting to hear about different approaches.

Iamnobirdandnonetensnaresme · 18/03/2019 20:14

I'm not sure everyone is serious about loosing weight on this thread!?

I've had overnight oats for breakfast,
Ham and salad at lunch and salmon, potatoes and broccoli for dinner.
I'll have a hot chocolate a bit later.

My period started today so the craving for crisps is massive. Plus I'm bloated and sore.

Caggie09 · 18/03/2019 21:31

Hello @SparklyglitterballSmile

My breakfast and lunches sound alot like yours. Tend to have eggs for breakfast or ready brek, and salads for lunch. Always fancy something sweet after ive eaten dinner. Probably my down fall!

Iamnobird What makes you say that not everyone is serious about losing weight on here?🙈

Eattothebeat · 18/03/2019 21:54

Went a bit off piste today so I'm starting again tomorrow!

Thisimmortalcurl · 19/03/2019 08:09

I’m back up to 8/11, I ate pretty well yesterday so if I do that again today I’ll be back down to 8/10 again . I can’t see to go below that number though . However I was working out that I started this 3 weeks ago tomorrow and have lost 6lb in that time so that overall is pretty good .
A loss of anything to break the 8/10 barrier would be good by Friday .
It’s so hard that you can be on plan all week and one blow out can cancel it out ( for me anyway )
However I don’t regret Sunday , my MIL needed cheering up and prosecco and some nice food was lovely .
Keep on going everyone , fresh new day .

Whereareyouspot · 19/03/2019 08:17

@Iamnobird that’s a bit harsh

@thisimmortalcurl that’s great progress!

I am steadfastly at 59.6 kg and cannot seem to lose anything
It’s beyond frustrating because it’s almost the end of the month and I have made consistent changes in how and what I eat

I’m not dieting in so much as not measuring calories or restricting hugely but I have largely cut out the snacking and the calorie laden cereal in the evenings, stop eating at 8pm (used to graze until 10 or later), no bread which was also a binge trigger. Am feeling really hungry before I eat most meals, less grazing. Not eating in the car, no diet drinks just water. I never have pasta or potatoes anyway and I don’t drink alcohol or fruit juice etc. I’ve maintained my exercise (which is well over two hours a day) and yet overall am basically exactly the same weight. I honestly thought I’d easily drop 3-4 lbs on this system. But absolutely nothing.

I’m thinking I may just accept this weight as being what my body is now.

Tbh I can’t face doing a really restrictive diet it will trigger bad eating patterns for me (been there done that) and I can’t actually see what else I can do aside that without being essentially miserable.

beela · 19/03/2019 09:05

@iamnobird Hmm

@whereareyouspot were you gaining weight before? It does sound like you must surely have reduced your calorie intake by cutting out the grazing.

@immortal Well done, 6lb in three weeks is fantastic going!

EmmaBell88 · 19/03/2019 09:35

@Thisimmortalcurl definitely better to look at the bigger picture, you're 1lb gain this week probably isn't even a gain, just water retention etc from the big blowout. Nothing a bit of water and salad won't fix!
@Whereareyouspot why don't you give us an example of what you eat in a day and we might see something you can't? I'm doing calorie counting at about 1200cals and it's shocking how little food you get for that.

Eattothebeat · 19/03/2019 10:22

Morning all! I am feeling very motivated today and determined that nothing carby will pass my lips for the rest of the week. My period has just started which I wasn't expecting so depending on how I feel on Friday I may postpone the big weigh in for another week as usually I stay bloated until a day or so after it finishes.
spot that's really tough - it sounds like you've been angelic and not been rewarded with a loss. I agree with emma that it would be really helpful if you could let us know what you're eating in case anyone can suggest something that might help.
curl really well done - 6lbs is fab!
nobird I am deadly serious about losing weight but sometimes the instant win of eating something delicious seems to appeal more than the longer term win of restricted eating! But I think this is a lovely supportive group who share their ups and downs with each other and that's really important because people feel they can come back here even when they're doing badly instead of maybe throwing the towel in completely. As is so often said, weight loss is not normally linear and I think it's fine/normal to have little ups and downs along the way as long as the general trend is downwards.

So let's keep this going - it's only four weeks until I need to wear a bikini and I am going to post a photo of my bikini bod on here four weeks tomorrow on Thursday 11th April (this is a little ruse to motivate myself more!)

Eattothebeat · 19/03/2019 10:24

Yikes just realised it's only three weeks tomorrow - that's even more of an incentive to stay out of the fridge!

Whereareyouspot · 19/03/2019 11:36

Right yes I’ll post what I had day before yesterday as that was a fairly typical day.

It will seem a lot but I’ll post the exercise too and no I wasn’t gaining before although I had gained in the run up to Xmas and it’s rhat I want to shift really to get back to my fighting weight of about 57kg (so want to lose 2-3kg)

Had kefir yoghurt thing (low fat) for breakfast with about 8 blueberries.
Three cups of tea with skim milk.

Had an egg white omelette for lunch made with chopped peppers onions and mushrooms and a couple of cheery tomatoes. No cheese, just egg white.
Then a small yoghurt.
Then some of that pleasure free cake as the kids call it!! (Egg white whipped to peaks folded with buckwheat flour, Splenda and a small tub of purée apple and baked in a loaf tin)

Had before lunch done a 6 mile run, an hour on the cross trainer. Was very hungry before I ate.

Did a 30min HIIT session about 5pm.
Resisted any snacking and drank water.
Had half a kiwi when I was chopping it for tea. About 6pm

Tea was a vegetable stew with water chestnuts and kidney beans. Teeny crust of the end of a baguette (literally thumb sized)
Blackberries
Small yoghurt.

Then evening is my down fall and I had 3/4 tub halo top ice cream (200 calories) and a nakd banana bread then stopped at 8pm and walked the dog 4 miles and didn’t eat again.

Whereareyouspot · 19/03/2019 11:39

Previously I would often have three bowls of cereal or oats often in the evening as well as graze in the day on snack a jacks or popcorn and bits of bread.

I’d also have a can of Diet Coke.
Move even stopped licking the spoon when I make cakes ffs!!

I started being careful end of feb so pretty much a month and I have possible gone from 60.7kg to 59.7kg but I was about to start my period and was bloated at that first weight (I’m not due now as I have a six week cycle)

TheyCalledHerPatience · 19/03/2019 11:45

Very late to this thread but I'd like to join in please. 10 stone 8 and I can no longer blame the excess on baby weight when they're turning 2 soon. Add in my recent discovery of husband's affair and my self confidence needs a serious boost. I'd like to lose a stone before the summer. Wine and takeaways (because I'm having a hard time so 'I deserve it') are my big downfall. Long term I think feeling better about myself will help more than the quick fixes!

Thisimmortalcurl · 19/03/2019 11:52

Thanks for the nice messages
@whereareyouspot can I just bow down in admiration at the amount of excercise you are doing .. wow !
Perhaps you should measure yourself and see if you have inches coming off but because you are building muscle it’s not reflected as much on the scales ?
Not that I would know much about that as I’m so lazy fitness wise but my eldest always goes by her measurements as she finds the scales hinder her rather than being positive.
Welcome @ Theycallherpatience .. sounds like you have had a very shitty time . Nothing like feeling back to yourself to give your confidence a boost.

AmIWelcome · 19/03/2019 14:44

I'm part of another thread but need all the motivation I can get so hopefully you will have me here too.

Started working out on the 25th Feb and have lost 20lbs since then. Looking to lose another 20lbs before I relax!! (Im male...)

Eattothebeat · 19/03/2019 15:32

spot I am no expert but you seem to eat quite a lot of carbs and not much fat or protein. Carbs just make you hungrierwhereas fat and protein fill you up and kill your appetite. Re the exercise, you are doing loads which is brilliant for toning, wellbeing, mental health etc etc but it doesn't really shift the weight - it's all about the diet. When I first took up running I put on weight as I ate back the exercise calories. Now I still run but never eat back the calories. For me low carbing is such an easy way to lose weight - you can eat tons of delicious stuff still but if you stick to it the weight comes off really easily. I really hope I don't sound preachy or anything but I'm just sharing my own experience.
Patience welcome you poor old thing. What a shitty thing for your dh to do to you whilst you were looking after twins (I assume from your post). And what a shitty thing for whoever he add an affair with to do to another woman who has her hands completely full with very young children. You will find lots of support here and we will all be rooting for you especially after what you've gone through. What sort of diet are you going to do?
Welcome also amiwelcome and well done on the weight loss so far.

EmmaBell88 · 19/03/2019 15:53

Send some of that motivation this way @Whereareyouspot ! I'm just pleased if I manage to do 15k steps a day ha! I was going to mention what @Thisimmortalcurl said, you're perhaps losing fat but gaining muscle so you don't see a shift on the scales? It doesn't sound like you are over eating but maybe an idea (if you can be arsed), weigh out your food one day and keep an accurate diary of how many calories you do eat. Or I find if you do the same thing for too long your weight loss can plateau, maybe mix things up and try a new diet, like low carb as @Eattothebeat suggested?

Whereareyouspot · 19/03/2019 16:43

@Eattothebeat that’s useful thanks as actually I thought I was quite low carb now I’ve cut out the cereal and the bread!
I never have rice or potatoes or pasta.

I do avoid fat as old habits die hard but fill up on protein hence the beans and the cottage cheese and the egg white

The exercise is not new at all and is how I’ve been for years
Today I’ve cycled 45 miles and walked 6 already.

I need to think more low carb I think
I don’t eat meat so what will I have?

Today I’ve had yoghurt with berries, a nakd bar mid cycle and then late lunch at three of some lentil cakes (like rice cakes) which I guess are carb heavy) with marmite, quorn slices and a yoghurt.

I think it portions too. A veg and bean stew is healthy but I’ll have two big bowls

Hmm thanks all I’ll have a rethink.

Weights first thing after just two cuppas was 59.7 but mid afternoon after the cycling but also after lunch and several cups of coffee and tea was 58.3!! Must be fluid balance.

spot your diet is so high carb - it's full of sugar which is the worst carb of all. The beans are really carby too but the worst offenders are things like the cake and the banana bread and the ice cream and the yoghurts and the fruit (berries are fine but not kiwis). Sugar and carbs just make you starving all the time. Fat and protein fill you up and kill your appetite. There are so many lovely things you can eat like butter, cheese, eggs (especially the yolk), mushrooms, nuts, cheese and onion omelettes, frittata, cauliflower cheese, asparagus with hollandaise, aubergine mozzarella stacks, fried halloumi salad, olives and feta. Beans are really carby too and so are pulses and lentils. Please stay with us but also go over on to the low carb threads and there will be other veggies on there with tons more ideas. You will find it hard quitting the sugar but it's so worth it - just take painkillers and eat raspberries to get you through it. It's actually fat that really fills you up more than protein. You can have raspberries and full fat cream or full fat greek yoghurt too but don't have low fat anything - it's packed with sugar. You can also have things like fried tofu too which is really delicious. Sorry this is so garbled but there's a whole world of wonderful food out there. I'd definitely do some research first though and google low carb high fat vegetarian diet. Try it for a month and if you don't lose weight I will be amazed!!

Eattothebeat · 19/03/2019 17:06

I've found you some recipes - the courgette fritters sound amazing!!

I weighed in yesterday at 10st 6lbs. I didn't do any exercise yesterday but got out for a walk already today and plan on some HIIT later. I had a small lunch and then natural yogurt and seeds for a mid-afternoon snack and am not hungry for dinner yet, which is good as I'm usually ravenous by this this time. Tonight is going to be zero snacking and off to bed early for me.
