We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and all at different stages, but we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

You lose weight through food more than exercise so concentrate on finding the right eating system for you first.

Yes absolutely this! Weight loss is about 80% diet. I only started doing any exercise at all when I'd lost at least 50lbs.

There's loads of videos on YouTube, and I used to walk on the spot when watching telly at night (still do that but jog instead), I have some Davina DVDs too for a quick bit of aerobics. We used to have a poster called @fezzesarecool who found some great links, like "walk a mile" and that sort of thing. She was also great at using "dead time" like waiting for kettle to boil to get some quick squats in etc.

HoneysuckIejasmine 👋 thanks for the mention

Also apologies for being AWOL, been through some bad life events recently so really not in the right mindset

But in general happy to report that Ive maintained at 13stone, kept up with my Bootcamp class and actually been brave enough to try on summer dresses

Hope everyone is well, I will return at some point and I know it’s very unmumsnet to do but xoxo
This group is awesome and it’s helped me so much

Weighed in yesterday STS for me again last week. Have now maintained a normal BMI for a year after starting at 41. It feels like a significant milestone as many people unfortunately regain their weight. I think I am at a high risk for that too. Had a big lunch out and managed pretty well. Didn't eat the bits that I didn't want (I am terrible for cleaning my plate) and stopped shortly after feeling full. My eating has been so much better this month since I increased my daily calories to 2100 (should roughly give me a slight deficit but who knows) and I re-read Intuitive Eating (by two American dieticians; it's the updated version of the original book that first brought intuitive eating to people's attention in the 90s).

I still want to lose 10lbs in the hope of getting my waist measurement down (it's a much better way to estimate risk than BMI) as it's still borderline. But maybe that is never going to happen and I'm just going to have to be happy with how I am now. To be fair, I have no reason at all to think I will be happy in 10lbs time as I have never been happy with my body at any weight with the exception of when I am manic. Then I think I look fucking amazing! Grin Recently had to have a STI screening from my last episode so while it's fun (until it's really not), there are certainly drawbacks... Anyway. tl;dr: eating mindfully is making me feel a lot better.

Welcome to all the new folk. Jump in and keep posting. My best bit of advice is that you don't need to have a perfect plan before you start. You can learn as you go and adjust things to suit your own unique circumstances. The time will pass anyway (if you are lucky) so why not make it pass doing something productive?

Hello fezzes, it's good to see you but sorry to hear things have been hard Flowers

itscallednickingbentcoppers · 27/05/2019 16:48

3lb off at weigh in today. I'm now 16 stone 13.7 with a BMI of 43.8. Started at 17 stone 8.6 3 weeks ago today so I'm pleased! Have dropped 2 BMI points.

Aiming for slow and steady now. I've been going at it a bit gung ho and it's not really sustainable to be hungry all the time.

fezzesarecool · 28/05/2019 13:05

AnotherOtter Thank you things are getting better now

NSV today I took the kids to the park and I went on the swings 😂 it was really fun as swings are and being able to join in with the kids

Easter I went on some fairground rides including the spinning swing and it’s amazing to me how I didn’t feel self conscious or worried it won’t break

Also I went swimming every day and the biggest thing for me was following my kids around without being covered by the water

Tried on some dresses in a ‘normal’ shop and it’s amazing I can find my size easily and fit

Had some photos while we were away and although room for improvement I was very happy with how I looked

And last one, I was late to watch my dd’s performance and I managed to run without kneeling over and get there just in time

Anyone else want to share?

Popcorn21 · 29/05/2019 18:42

Hiya
Anyone want to join the social media community of losing weight? I need supporters to help me through my journey or lowering my weight (BMi) being healthy and happy!
Any tips would be so helpful! The weight needs to come off within the next three months x

mytittifersungtheirsong · 29/05/2019 20:13

I'm on holiday this week. I'm the biggest I've ever been and I'm really not looking good in my summer clothes. However I've decided to let it go for the holiday (1 week) and then start seriously on my return. I really need to do this as have joint ache and TMI a small prolapse from childbirth which the GP said would be slightly better if I lost weight.

Also terrified I'm heading for T2 diabetes.

Introvertedbuthappy · 02/06/2019 08:23

NSV: bought some clothes in a size 16. In January I was a size 22/24!

moonlight1705 · 02/06/2019 08:39

STS this week, obviously hit my level.

Quandary2018 · 02/06/2019 08:58

I’m back- I’ve just looked and it’s been 2 months since I last posted and those 2 months have been crap and I’ve gained 11lbs
I’m so so annoyed with myself, I’ve fallen back into bad habits, I’ve sabotaged myself and I can’t believe I’m back to where I was in January!
I ache all the time, if I sit for too long I get stiff, at work I actually have to brace myself before I stand up because I know it’s going to hurt. I’m 36 and 17 stone. This cannot go on.
I need to find something other than food to turn to at times of stress, loneliness and boredom because that’s what’s doing this to me.
I know how to eat healthily, I know how to exercise but what I don’t know how to do is to occupy myself without eating
Hopefully I will stick at it this time and not give up when the scales are slow which they inevitably will be!

HoneysuckIejasmine · 02/06/2019 14:19

Quandary so sorry to hear it's not gone well. Maintaing is really damn hard, and a lot of people will gain during those times. It just shows how easy it is to gain again, and how aware we need to be to keep on it. Certainly weight goes on faster than it comes off! Still, you've lost it before and you'll lose it again, no matter how long it takes. I've lost 0.25lbs in two weeks of actively trying, if it makes you feel any better or gives context. (My calorie goal is set to lose 2lbs a week Hmm )

Fezzes so sorry things have been crap, but huge well done on all those NSVs!

Introverted that's great! It's so much easier when you can just grab clothes off the rack easily 😊

Tittifer I'd definitely recommend having fun on your holiday, and certainly have what you want, but try not to hit the "fuck it" button. Weight will go on super fast and your memory of the burger or the 10 cocktails instead of 5 won't console you. I know from experience. 😭

I live on the edge of an AONB, with a well established National Trail running through it. My friends and I are aiming to do the whole trail in sections. Yesterday we did a leg that was 18km long, with a total climb of 550m! Stunning, such hard work, but I did it! I didn't think I'd ever be in the position to walk so far and climb so many hills! Truly a non scale victory.

Loss this week: 0.25lbs (it was my birthday weekend last weekend so this is loss over last fortnight truthfully)
Total loss: 98.50lbs
To go: 16lbs to healthy BMI

NSV! So around this time last year I was gon crazy trying to find a dress

Yesterday I bought some summer dresses and this fitted one too! I’ve still got a way to go but I was brilliant to grab some dresses and to not worry too much about getting stuck in the dress and to actually like how I look

HoneysuckIejasmine · 02/06/2019 19:56

You look amazing fezzes! I remember you dress hunting last year. That one is stunning.

fezzesarecool · 02/06/2019 20:42

Honeysucklejasmine Thank you, my birthday’s in a couple of weeks and my dd has a few dance shows so I figured any excuse to dress up!

Oh likes the dress too 😂

Callmesausage · 03/06/2019 14:01

Wow, you look fabulous fezze!

Well I’m back again, bloody pathetic, I can’t stick to anything more than a couple of weeks. I just don’t know how to do this.

I’m going away in a couple of weeks with a group of friends and am mortified. I’m the only big one going and the thought of getting in a costume in front of everyone makes me so embarrassed, it would look even more stupid if I don’t. I have no idea how to get through the week. I have had a year to do it and still didn’t. So angry at myself.

Introvertedbuthappy · 03/06/2019 15:10

You look amazing fezzes!

MegJoBethAmyMarch · 04/06/2019 23:03

I apologise for not posting for many months. I have been reading posts however and taking encouragement from them.

And I am delighted to say that today, after losing 103 3/4 lbs, I have reached a healthy BMI.

I will now try to lose a few more pounds and then embark on the daunting job of maintaining the weight loss.

To those just beginning, good luck. I found it best to set tiny goals and when my weight loss slowed down to ignore that and just keep going. The scales will start to show a loss again soon enough. Smile

daisyhead08 · 05/06/2019 13:26

I too must apologise for not posting. I have had the most insane couple of weeks. My mum was admitted to hospital suddenly, I had children making communion and confirmation (I'm in Ireland, so this is a big deal) and my brother got married. I'm going to Florida in 4 weeks, so may not weigh myself until then. For me, the short term goal is to fit on the rides in Orlando. Blush
I have been advised to stick to between 1600 and 1800 cals a day and try to get to the gym 4 times a week and have upped my walking. Personal trainer reckons I'm training enough to lose weight so here's hoping. Really glad to be back here and I'm off to catch up with what I've missed.

daisyhead08 · 05/06/2019 13:27

Just spotted your photo fezzes, you look amazing!!

HoneysuckIejasmine · 05/06/2019 14:55

MegJo incredible! 🎉🎉 Well done you! I'm still 16lbs away and loss has slowed to essentially stand still. But I'm going to doctors today to discuss medication issues so hopefully I can get that resolved and refund my mojo. On the plus side, I'm maintaining very well. Shame I'm supposed to be losing! 😒

Daisy I hope your mother has recovered, and congratulations on the communions/confirmations/weddings! What a busy (and expensive!) time! Very jealous of your Florida holiday, enjoy!

Thank you Honeysucklejasmine. I hope your appointment at the doctors goes well.

moonlight1705 · 09/06/2019 07:00

Lost 1/2lb this week which is better than nothing.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 10/06/2019 08:23

Hey Moonlight, well done! Keeping a new baby alive is hard work, let alone dieting as well!

Did another hike yesterday so I'm 3lbs up in water weight and stiff muscles! 😂 It'll go in time. Found hike relatively easy too, although it was 12km through hilly countryside. Love seeing an improvement in my fitness.

Also up to week 8 of C25K. It's taken ages to get there, but that's life! Did the first one and was surprised how "easy" it was compared to how I thought it would be (it's 5 mins walk, 28 min run, 5 mins walk).

OP posts:
moonlight1705 · 15/06/2019 07:21

Well I've put on 2lb this week but we did go on a trip to Exeter for a few days....it's amazing how many cream teas are around.

How was your hike honey? I'm impressed you've got to week 8, I really hate running. Speaking of exercise, I'm doing a charity 24 hours of martial arts today , am doing a 4 hour stint. Smile
