hi thanks for advice, will maybe stick to my gym ball dvd for now. Although it does sound interesting, knew someone who did it a while ago and said was great for weight loss.
However have a friend who has had pole dancing lessons as well as doing weight watchers. The weight has just dropped off her!!!!
She even had a pole put in her garage
mmmm....

3andnomore · 10/07/2007 08:47

no1...I watched some Teleshop ad for Gymball workouts and it looked really good...I used to have one, although used it as a Birth ball...but when we moved here we never pumped it up, as no where for it to go (we used to use it as a PC chair aswell, before, lol....)so, I gave it away to a friend for her Birth.
Well, laloop, know about the sluggish thing and carb consumption problem....sigh....
Speedy...I would find it hard to imagine myself going on a mile long run right now, never mind 5 or 6...wow....
Well, I was gonna get up as normal and do exercise, but my shift was rather knackering (loads and loads of driving around here there and everywhere, well, and from 8.30-10.30 is sort of a long day I suppose...especially as I had been up since 5am, lol) and it was nearly 11pm by the time I walked in, so, will do something later....at 5 am I just wasn't up to anything, lol.

3andnomore · 10/07/2007 14:55

Well...I got to confess....I bought myself another exercise DVD, and it wasn't even a bargain, lol...but my mum has given me some money to buy myself somehting for my Birthday (beginning of next month) so, I thought I buy it anywya...bargain or not....it's the Vicky Entwistle one, which is meant to be good and does sound good on the blurb, so, lets hope I also bought myself a 3 pair set of Dumbells from Argos, also from my mums money...they are 1.5Kg, 3Kg and 5Kg, thought those would give me a good variety of resistence and enable me to work up....saying that, I truely doubt I will ever do the Nell McAndrew workouts wiht anything heavier then maximum 3Kg, if I can even ever do that, lol.....!
Haven't done any exercise, and am shattered tbh...however, I did walk twice to and from town, and obviously this morning my Buggy was super heavy, what with 19Kg worth of Dumbells on top of the usual load, lol!

3andnomore · 10/07/2007 14:59

Ooops...on teh Bellydancing abs thing...thining of somehting a friend of mine said to me. She has been bellydancing for many years now and said that whilest it of course is great exercise and will reshape your body it will be more likely to give you the female curves....i.e. the way it forinstance trains the tummy muscles is completely different to normal training. Obviously female curves aren't bad....but, dispite her being very slim and never having a Baby her tummy is sort of "wobbly" on the lower bit....not sure if that amkes sense...lol...

OrmIrian · 10/07/2007 16:26

Hello. Still not running but sorely tempted as it's not hurting any more. Is that stupid? If I strap it up?

No...I know. I won't. Perhaps next weekend.

speedymama · 10/07/2007 16:31

Ormrian, I would leave it a bit longer. My DH ran sooner than he should have done and re-injured the leg. He hasn't run for 4 weeks now and is really fed up, especially as my running is going well.

OP posts:
laloop · 10/07/2007 20:16

Orm, glad the pain's gone - I'm sure you're itching to get the trainers back on again! If you can force yourself to hold out for another few days you'll know your leg's definitely recovered

3anm, I'm in same position as you as my birthday is tomorrow and have some money from MIL that I'm planning to spend on exercise equipment. Can't decide between an exercise bike (Argos have this one here on offer at the moment)or one of the rebounders/mini-trampolines this (although I will hopefully pick one up a bit cheaper - maybe one of the ones that The Apprentice's Simon was advertising on that shopping channel, lol). Anyone got any advice about what to go for. Dh reckons whichever I choose it'll just end up as a dust-collector , so that attitude will hopefully make me use it frequently just to prove a point!

3andnomore · 10/07/2007 20:56

Orm, I would also say wait...especially as I think you only just gotten over a previous injury (or am I thinking of someone else...hm...) maybe do some Yoga or something like that. ( I know, it's not the same, but something mihgt be beter then nothing????)!
As for Rebounders....apparently there are really good foldable ones....saying that, I always htink if I have to put it up first, I ain't gonna use it, lol....!I have got a rebounder, via Freecycle, but must say, I don't really use it, the few times I did my shins hurt so badly after so, that puts me off...I am probably doing something wrong. I do Like the exercise bike

weezy292004 · 11/07/2007 05:27

hi all just wanted to pick some brains on using weights and exercising.i'm using 3kg dumbells on arms to hopefully get rid of bingo wings..i'm doing 10 reps on each arm in about 5 diffrent ways everyday but worried i will look like popeye.is this too much?also any good tips on excercises for hips, waist bum etc.
i'm currently waiting for davinas boxset (from ebay)to arrive and hope to do a 30 min session early morning before work would you have brekkie before or after doing a workout?

total novice so please feel free to point in the right direction.
thanks

3andnomore · 11/07/2007 10:13

Weezy, to become all bulked out, rather then nicely toned, you would have to have more testosterone, if I remember correctly, as that is part of the reason why men can build their muscles up the way they do.

Both of Davinas DVD's have excellent exercises for upper and lower body altogether, so, that will help with abs and gluts, etc.
Tae BO is brilliant for waist and tummy and bum, and is a fabulous fatburner on top of it. Can highly recommend it!
hth...

Well as for me, I did the Vicky Entwistle "Wow! Vicky's Weight off Workout" this morning, and will leave a review on the review thread, but will say this here aswell....I LOVE IT....yes, I love it as much as Tae BO, Nell McAndrew's and Davinas Workout...wohoo...so pleased as I would have hated to have spend that much money on a DVD and then to hate it, lol!

laloop · 11/07/2007 10:41

Enjoy the Davina DVDs, weezy, they are really enjoyable and effective, if I'm doing workout first thing I normally just have cup of tea and some water, then eat breakfast half hour or so afterwards.

3anm, that Vicky DVD must be excellent to be up there with the TaeBo and Davina - can't wait to read your review!

I'm feeling more into the exercise again, af started a few days ago and think that maybe partly responsible for the "eat all around me/slob about!" attitude this week! Skipping rope and exercise bike hopefully being bought today if I can arrange for dh to pick them up. This will hopefully help to burn off the wine, chocs and cake that dh and dc's got me !

Can't decide which DVD to stick on today to give me a boost Davina, Nell or Billy? Decisions, decisions...

Hope you all have a great day

3andnomore · 11/07/2007 11:18

lol laloop...that is the problem when you have choice...hard sometimes to decide what ya fancy
And yes, that Vicky workout is definately a good one and a keeper

Oh, see, I knew I forgot to say something to weezy earlier...lol....I exercise mostly first thing in teh morning...I drink a glass of water or hot water wiht some lemon slices and then do exercise on an empty stomach...if it is true what Jason Vale says, then if you don't have any man made carbs after 7pm the night before and do exercise then first thing in teh morning before breakfast, then you really will go into your fat reserves...this does make sense to me, does of course not mean that that is true, but that is a different story, and I am sure someone will be able to confirm it!
Anyway, must get my children from Nursery!

speedymama · 11/07/2007 13:32

Hi Weezy.

First of all, you will not end up with bulky arms using your weights. Women do not have the level of testosterone to make that happen and you would have to use extremely heaving weights and low reps to achieve a degree of bulk. The female bodybuilders use steroids (even though they deny it). Just look at their jawline.

When women use moderate weights and high reps (12-15) they end up with well defined and toned muscles which reinforces their shape as well as curves.

Secondly, exercise on an empty stomach and then eat. If I go for a long run, I drink some water before hand.

Good luck!

Laloop, I would buy the exercise bike personally because you can increase the resistance to make it more challenging and raise your heart rate.

Glad your motivation has returned.

anyone know what this 6sec abs machine is like, does it work and is it any good?

laloop · 11/07/2007 15:25

Have just done the 8 minute Tae Bo workout

Think it's a great workout but I'm finding it difficult to get some of the moves perfected (I am hopelessly unco-ordinated due to mixing up my left and right frequently- hence my reluctance to go to classes at the gym as I'm often heading the opposite direction to everyone else!). Think I've mastered most of the punches and the squat kicks seem ok, but there are a few bits where they all go at crazy speed tapping knees and ankles, am clueless when it gets to this stage but I'm sure it's a hilarious sight to behold!
Did the rest of you "get" the moves right away (i.e. is there just no hope for me?) or did it take a while to get there.

3anm, I haven't heard of the 6sec abs machine before so can't offer any advice, sorry!

3andnomore · 11/07/2007 15:40

lol laloop...it takes a bit time with some of the moves..must say I always mirror them, find that easier with all DVD's, lol....

speedymama · 11/07/2007 15:50

Laloop it takes time but you'll get there!

3andnomore · 11/07/2007 20:07

wish me luck...I might be winning the Isabella Power workout, which got excellent reviews on Amazon and seems to be on par wiht Nell McAndrews workouts....just lets hope no one comes along last minute.
Good thing is, it's a pretty local seller, lol....so, considering the postal strike, I mihgt be able to pick it up....

speedymama · 11/07/2007 20:23

Good luck and please post a review once you have done it.

OP posts:
3andnomore · 11/07/2007 20:25

I won it, am so pleased and at a bargain price, too (only £3.20 and £2 for p&p...if that is how I will get it....)
