Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus... - Part 5

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 07/06/2018 20:04

Hello, welcome to the fifth instalment (wow!) of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus …’ thread Smile

If you want to read them (but by no means feel obliged!), the previous threads are here: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 and Part 4

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and all at different stages, but we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

Collectively, we’ve lost an incredible….........Star 1024lbs Star since the start of the first thread in Dec 16, which is amazing! Grin Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

Very quick post just to say oh fuck, Notanurse, are you alright? Hope you improve quickly and get home soon Thanks

How is your daughter, Nickname?

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 04/07/2018 18:18

Hope you’re home soon notanurse Flowers and hope nickname DD is on the mend too.

Quick stop in to say I’ve had a discovery - I don’t like snacking for the sake of it but sometimes get an overwhelming urge for something salty/sweet. The Proper Corn popcorn (in peanut butter and almond) is really hitting that spot for me, and is 115kcal for a 25g bag (but looks much more). Still a fair whack of fat, sugar and salt but a better option than full blown crap Wink. Got mine in Boots but must be elsewhere too.

Bit more motivated this week, but still a bit to go. Eating properly at maintenance this week, which is helping get my brain in gear again. KOKO!

ScaredPAD · 05/07/2018 07:21

Sorry I disappeared from reading the thread for a week! Had a difficult week at home and then got scared of weighing! My first 8 weeks went well then a bit of a wobble with the unexpected pound on then a week not really planning!

Wk 10 - 2lb off (the pound that went on and another one)!
Total - 14lb loss! First stone. Its taken me a bit longer than many on here, and still 7 and a bit to go... but still yay first stone!

notanurse hope you recover soon. I hate hospitals - ive got a consultant appointment today which was part of my wobble.

b1rdonawire and others - it seemed a few of us put on a random pound that week. How odd. Maybe it reallt is the heat!? Yay for koko. Im so glad of this group.

strawberry your burger looks amazing!

fezes what strength traiming are you doing?! Its obviously working! Well done x.

tractors I often come up as add on self diagnosis type quizes. So not properly diagnosed but I have always wondered about my impulse control. I couldnt sit still in my finals at uni and went wandering to the loo a few times, daydreamed etc as once Id done the essay plan I felt "done"!

When people say theyre eating at maintenance is that when you calculate the calories needed to sts rather than to lose?

Also walking 3miles5miles/hiwever many. Are people going for long walks or do they mean total steps over the day? Im tryong to increase my step count and go for a walk if not high enough!

Someone said (honey?) About being driven by how many calories left rather than hunger signals. I would be exactly the same (but i do have a history of disordered eating and get obsessive with numbers) . Im trying to look at the hunger scale, and relearn fullness. But as Im losing quite slowly compared to many it may not be the fastest approach!

Still if i lost at this rate for a year it would be 4-5 stone! I hope to "get back on it."

Will be checking in a bit more now x

strawberrypig · 05/07/2018 07:59

Slow and steady wins the race Scared. I am having to be really careful not to get over competitive with myself and lose too much weight too quickly. I've done this in the past, been going great guns, really, really "good" and then got bored and put the weight back on.

This time I am determined to make a total life change so it is part of life. I went for brunch with some colleagues yesterday after a meeting to a greasy spoon, I had a bit of a panic looking at the menu but chose poached eggs on toast, no butter. A few months ago I would have felt really deprived but I really enjoyed them. I had homemade chicken tikka masala for supper and I had enough syns left over for a large g and t and a packet of ringos.

nicknamehelp · 05/07/2018 10:26

Going to try and get back on track! Going to gym today and going to eat reasonably well. I feel horrible and bloaty but I'm not going to upset myself by getting on the scales its only a number. Eating healthy and exercising are going to be my goals.

Thanks for all support DD is doing OK again just seems to be such a roller coaster of emotions at the moment.

fezzesarecool · 05/07/2018 10:51

ScaredPAD, I really don’t want to be seen as giving out bad advice, as I’ve said there’s been concern on this thread about what I do.

Whilst I appreciate that it came from a supportive point of view it really did have a negative affect on me so much so that I was basically scared shitless about my hair falling out or getting painful gallstones or somehow damaging my health.

I’m not saying that the concerns/advice was bad but as someone who used weight as a protective method I basically felt like I was too fat and stupid to lose weight in the ‘proper’ manner. This is my own insecurities coming into play and no one meant this at all.

I’m not trying to say anything bad about anyone at all, people on here are so lovely and supportive and they want to make sure we learn from their mistakes. I’m just trying in a long winded way to explain why it might not be a good idea for me to give any advice, it’s not that I’m being unhelpful.

Plus I really don’t want to get into that kind of negative headspace again from any debate about what I am doing nor do I want to feel like I have to defend myself.

It took a lot for me to come back into the thread and mentally it was such a hard thing for me to trust the GP versus people versus who have actually been through this journey versus current guidelines and get to a place where I balance it all out. Again my own insecurities, only myself to blame and probably a lot to do with looking for a excuse for not completing this journey. But I am now confident in what I’m doing is the right thing for me.

But thanks to everyone’s concerns I did seek GP advice who’s happy with what I’m doing and is monitoring my weight loss and in regards to me specifically, age, diet, health and exercise they are happy. However what I am doing wouldn’t be suitable for all. But for me it’s perfectly healthy and safe and there’s no medical concerns.

So I hope this is ok with everyone and there’s some understanding about why I’m not as helpful as I could be, what I will say is add weights/resistance into whatever you do.

m.youtube.com/watch?v=KCe3ZS7pAC4

I do this 1 mile walk, and have worked up to use 2kg (4kg) hand weights in total. I do it throughout the day starting at before the school run and the last one while dinner cooks.

I hope I haven’t upset anyone in here, I do really appreciate the advice and support I get on here. The last thing I want is to bring anything negative to the thread especially as it’s helped me so much. Xxxx

Anyway, mojo is low today with the heat! Need to push on for a couple more weeks as then the routines go out the window.

honeysucklejasmine · 05/07/2018 11:39

scared congratulations on your first stone! Hope your appointment goes well.

Nickname glad DD is ok at the moment - I hope it improves for you all soon. Sorry your DH is being a dick though.

Fezzes I think seeing your gp was a good idea and I'm glad you're feeling secure in your regime. I really need to start doing these 1 mile walks but if the TV is on in the day, DD demands her shows. Neither of them particularly like sitting in the pushchair for walks either.

Today I looked in the mirror and for first time started to see the loss - I am aware I'm smaller but this morning I could really see it.

I've overcome the calorie issue by having a lower cal breakfast - I don't feel hard done by if I cut that down, but if I have a small lunch I always feel miserable.

Having a mostly vegan meal plan this week too so will have lower calorie meals naturally.

fezzesarecool · 05/07/2018 12:07

honeysucklejasmine Fantastic NSV, really great when you can actually see the results in the mirror

I normally put the 1 mile walk on my phone and just listen out for the movement ques. DS has gone for his nap nap so putting it on my phone while I catch up with Eastenders!

ScaredPAD · 05/07/2018 16:08

Fezzes - sorry I didnt want to make you feel bad at all! And im so glad your plan is working. I just meant was it gym or something you were following, didnt mean to intrude! I cant believe my thought was that my phone wont register the steps.... i either need to stop getting obsessed or get a fitbit! But yes that looks ace. I had wondered about keeping up walking in the bad weather/school hols and that looks fab! Thankyou.

Strawberry thanks for the wise words :)

Honey thats fab!!!

In other news I DONT HAVE PAD (artery disease!) And need a new name. I havent felt anxious and so havent been picking at snacks either....!

fezzesarecool · 05/07/2018 17:09

ScaredPAD that’s ok, me and my personal demons! I just do 80’s style exercise from you tube

I’m feeling brave and maybe joining a dance class in the September, maybe

AdventuresRUs · 05/07/2018 23:45

Namechange - was Scared PAD - but I found out today I dont have it!!!! Wahooo. Still motivated to change my life but less of the fear.

I swan 46 lengths today. Im not fast but I kept going and felt proud. Couldnt think what to do to celebrate and went for a swim!

I still need to meal plan for next week as Ive lost it a bit. I keep getting confused as to what i consider healthy and how much i want the balance to be. Is it okay to have a packet of crisps once or twice a week etc!?

B1rdonawire · 06/07/2018 07:36

Big congrats on the all-clear - loving the new username!

moonlight1705 · 06/07/2018 08:16

Waves to the newly created AdventuresRUs Grin I think getting the balance is the hardest part.

In my head I want to lose weight but I've come to realise more and more that other things like having a Friday night fish and chips to relax with my DH is more important to me that an extra 1/2lb a week.

There are 21 meals in a week with 7-14 snacks (if you snack) so there must be some room for a packet of crisps but keep it moderate and don't go buying the sharing bag of crisps to eat in one go Smile

fezzesarecool · 06/07/2018 08:26

AdventuresRUs Congrats on the name change!

For snacking I’ve food some low calories versions that I like if I want crisps, but if I fancy the real thing I have it and just make sure it works into my allowance.

For balance I think they say be healthy 80% of the time so I think a couple of packets a week is fine.

I have a weight emergency here, my beautiful baby boy decided to chuck the digital scales into the bath water! 😫 I’ve got old dial scales which I normally use but the digital is what oh likes and was my double check for weighing in day and good for the slow weeks to see the tiny changes.

Any recommendations for a new one?

honeysucklejasmine · 06/07/2018 08:49

I have salter ones Fezzes, they are great.

Adventures huge congratulations, what excellent news!

Moonlight absolutely, this is a lifestyle change, not a crash diet. You've got to go with what you can maintain long term.

I'm away this weekend so I weighed in today (2 days early):

Loss this week: 1.5lbs
Total loss: 58.75lbs
To lose: 44lbs

I am 2.5lbs away from my lowest known weight, back in 2009. Exciting!

BreakingSad · 06/07/2018 12:45

Well done Honey you'll be at your lowest before you know it.

Like the name AdventureRus and it must be a huge relief for you.

Loss this week 2
Total loss 62
Left to lose 53

Lost the 2 lbs I'd put on. I did have a measure today and have lost a couple of inches around my middle, which is thanks to the running, so although the weight loss is slow I do see a difference in my appearance.

PostNotInHaste · 07/07/2018 07:32

NotaNurse how are you feeling ?Nickname I hope DD is feeling better.

BreakingSad well done on the loss. I’d be stressed at 7 hours no FitbitGrinLovely your DD back, any tips for the getting ready fior Uni thing? Currently debating if it’s too hot to Parkrun this morning.

Fezzes those things got your diary are great ! I think the Kesley Sansone videos are great and used them a lot at the start AdventureRus so pleased for you and like the new name - brilliant you went for a swim to celebrate, would you have done that a year ago?!

Honeysuckle a Big well done and that is a huge milestone in sight now. Great you can see the changes.

Moonlight I personally feel that by taking the decision to go slightly slower to accommodate the things you want to do you are making big steps to changes that make the loss and maintaining sustainable .

Strawberrypig sounds like your head is in the right place, that’s the key - along with accepting it won’t always be but when it goes pear shaped to keep working at it and move on.

Tractors , Chestynut AnotherOtter , how are you all ? B1rd I hope you’re on the mend very soon.

Callmesausage well done on the loss. Topsy. A bit late saying this but really solid start, well done. Cagliostro hope the move is going well.

Apologies to anyone I’ve forgotten. Weighed for the first time in a couple of weeks and STS which am really pleased about as should have put on a couple of pounds and suspect it might catch up with me. Gore date for hospital and neighbour sadly died. I’m u dear a lot of pressure to step in and help his wife stay in the house on her own. Her DD asked if I would be contact for emergency contact. I declined then neighbour rang and asked me herself. Saying no to lovely lady in mid 80’s who you are very fond of really hard but I can’t, went through hell with my Mum and I haven’t slept very well since I took the 5.30am phone call when her DH collapsed. It’s brought back a lot of the stress we went through when Mum and FIL were dying and I’m feeling a touch traumatised I think.

Onwards and upwards though. DD has found temporary accommodation in halls over the summer so can go down and flat hunt for September. Can not wait for end of term, how I’m going to get DS there in the mornings between now and then I have no idea. He keeps going back to sleep which seems very ironic given he always used to wake at 6 am and I wished he’d sleep in. Now i’m Delighted if I sleep till 6am and I can’t get him out of bed Grin

moonlight1705 · 07/07/2018 11:30

I've STS this week which is not too bad considering I've barely moved in this heat.

Post I am.so impressed you are even contemplating a run. We got up at 7 to do some gardening this morning which was lovely and shady. It has got way too hot now.

Well done fezze on a good week Smile

Hope everyone is having a lovely week.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 07/07/2018 13:29

Here's my line, officially drawn: --------

Right, time to move up a gear - here we go!

To lose: 124 lbs
Lost to date: 47 lbs
Left to lose: 77 lbs

To Do:
Finish meal planning and write a corresponding shopping list for tomorrow.
Set up more reminders in my phone for logging in MFP - I usually do it once a day, but think upping this will help me stay focused.

Otherwise, fairly peaceful here - wearing a maxi dress today which is not quite long enough, but fine for pottering around doing chores and popping to the nearest shop. Unfortunately it's black and TractorCat is shedding every hair from her body, so it's more tabby and white than originally intended Shock

BreakingSad · 07/07/2018 18:43

Post did you do the park run?
It is lovely having Dd back. When she was getting ready for uni, I googled what to take to uni, lots of very helpful list that others had already created Grin if you have an Ikea close very useful. Also I used lots of the big blue Ikea bags to move her stuff as they're light, strong and don't take up much space in their accommodation. Get them to declutter their stuff as they are sorting, Hope that helps Smile

PostNotInHaste · 07/07/2018 19:45

Well done Fezzes! Moonlight STS whilst pregnant in this heat is flipping amazing in my book!

Tractors my Line last week did help me so fingers crossed it has the same effect for you.

BreakimgSad I got a personal best somehow - we stupidly forgot our water and I think I was very very focused on reaching the water fountain Grin Actually I think the hilly route might be helping finally. Ikea bags excellent idea, will dig those out and tell DD to get Googling once she’s back.
