Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus... - Part 5

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 07/06/2018 20:04

Hello, welcome to the fifth instalment (wow!) of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus …’ thread Smile

If you want to read them (but by no means feel obliged!), the previous threads are here: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 and Part 4

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and all at different stages, but we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

Collectively, we’ve lost an incredible….........Star 1024lbs Star since the start of the first thread in Dec 16, which is amazing! Grin Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

Exciting life of Tractors cont...... Meal plan done, shopping list made and shopping bought Smile

Feel much more in control once I have these three things in place - it's so easy to skip this at the weekend, muddle through with what is in the cupboards until mid-week and then end up with beige carbs on a "grab and dash" midweek shop Blush

OP posts:
ChestyNut · 08/07/2018 09:52

This week- + 2lbs
Total- 57lbs
To lose- 43lbs

Putting gain down to strawberry and cream baileys, ovulation and less disordered restriction this week.

Going to try and eat healthier choices next week and no more baileys Blush

It is soooo hot!

notanurse hope you’re ok?
post is your surgery date soon?

AnotherOtter · 08/07/2018 10:55

Gain over last two weeks: 1lb
Total loss: 95.4lbs
To go: 5.4lbs was initial goal but think my waist measurement isn't going to be below the lower risk cutoff

I am delighted with only gaining a pound after being on holiday. I actually stepped on the scales twice in shock. Am also delighted to be home and really pleased at how getting back into my routine has felt so natural and comforting. I was worried after my over-eating, comfort eating and binging that I would never get back to normality but it's been good so far - early days though. I ate about 8.5k calories above my normal maintenance but exercised a lot more than usual as did over 100 miles in the two weeks of which 20 miles were pretty tough runs. I am putting my daily calorie goal back up to 1700 and just going to grin and bear the slower weight loss as I think going down to 1600 contributed to my binging. That's what I was taught by the NHS psychologist anyway so will try it out.

Nickname, how are you doing and how is your daughter? I hope your husband is behaving better too.

Notanurse, how are you? I hope you are home now and starting to feel better.

Adventures, that's great news that you don't have peripheral artery disease. What a relief! You're doing brilliantly with the swimming too.

Fezzes, I bought Tanita scales after that brand was recommended on here. I got a cheaper model as I don't use the more expensive functions like body composition which I think is notoriously inaccurate. They've been very reliable in the eighteen months I've had them.

Enjoy your trip, Honey Smile You'll get to your milestone before you know it. Thanks for your meal plan, I am stealing some of those.

Post, what a lot you have going on Thanks I hope you are taking care of yourself as well as everyone else. Very well done on your parkrun PB!

Good job getting the weekend chores done, Tractors, and setting yourself up for a good week. Those kind of things make me feel better too.

Well done to those that have loss this week and to the rest who are KOKO anyway Thanks

strawberrypig · 08/07/2018 10:56

Week 7

This week 1.5lbs
Total off 18lbs
Still to go 82lbs

Pretty pleased with that as I have massive water retention due to the weather and my period. My weight had been ever so slightly creeping up this week so I expected a gain, was hoping for a maintain so that pound and a half is a big win for me.

Feeling quite blue at the moment, I'm on a merry-go-round of work, housework, homework, child taxi driver, chief cook and bottle washer. All work and no play makes Strawberry want to reach for the giant bag of kettle crisps.

Wantacurry · 08/07/2018 11:36

NSV I got back into my denim shorts this morning, which three months ago were stuck half way up my legs ! Yeah me. Now easily pull up and button easily !

Therefore I now have three pairs of denim shorts in my wardrobe that I can now wear for the summer holidays :)

ChestyNut · 08/07/2018 16:35

NSV tried a top on in asda and too big, had to get a smaller size Smile

B1rdonawire · 09/07/2018 08:04

Loving the NSVs!! Great to read.

Tractors I need to share your line please - another 1lb on today despite thinking I had done much better this week. Possibly water, possibly salt, possibly having a heavy cold all week so only did 1 run instead of 3...on the bright side I measured my waist and have lost half an inch there since last checked.

Feeling SO sweaty and yucky, but going to try and run today. I only have 2 runs left of C25k, so I have done one of the 30min runs already - had to coax myself through it 5 minutes at a time telling myself I could stop after the next 5, or actually that feels OK let's keep going for another 5 etc - like you guys said, it was very much all in my head SmileI am covering nowhere near 5k in my 30 mins, but going to keep going and trust in small improvements...my mantra for the week, that should be!

Callmesausage · 09/07/2018 08:21

Morning all

Week 5
Loss -2
Total loss - 19 1/2 lbs

Have a good week and well done all the NSVs

Cagliostro · 09/07/2018 08:23

I feel enormous. Not managing at all! Sorry I’ve not been contributing at all as nothing useful to say!

In just over two weeks we will be in the new house and will have given back the keys from here. Really hope life is less stressful then.

PostNotInHaste · 09/07/2018 13:01

Honeysuckle I want to book a room too Grin Tried the chickpea and peach curry recently which is lovely and great base to add allotment veg to.

Tractors agree about that mid week beige carbs thing, that has been my undoing on a few occasions.

Chesty don’t worry about it and if it helps I gain at ovulation. Surgery towards start of August just after my holiday and DD mov8ng out. No school run to worry about which is good. Well done on the NSV.

Otter well done ! It’s really positive that your routine feels natural. I’ve had the same with my goal and waist measurement. Blown away by your exercise on holiday, would you have thought you’d be doing that a year ago? Sensible move with the calorie increase.

Well done Strawberrypig. Sorry you’re feeling blue. I think a lot of people feeling like that at this point in the term and heat not helping as sleeping well much harder.

Wantacurry great NSV, especially with this weather !

B1rd remember it isn’t linear and things happen on weeks in a weird way. If your losing inches take that as a win and it will show up at some point. I’m sure Tractors will happily share her line but maybe you should do your own so you’ve gone through the mental process of doing it, if that doesn’t sound silly?! Don’t put yourself under pressure on the running front, it is really bloody hot. Once you’ve done a 30 minuter you’ve cracked it, you will be able to do it again. I’ve found that though there is a general improvement over time it’s really variable run to run, especially in this.

Callmesausage well done, nearly at the 1.5 stone mark. Cagliostro hang in there, things will calm down after the move and you’ll get more headspace to deal with this again.

BasementJacks · 09/07/2018 13:52

Hi All, I've come to join you!

Had baby number two six months ago and added two stone to my already large number of stones.

I'm 40 in three years and want to feel nice in a dress by then. And so it begins.

Started last Monday and lost 4lbs last week.

So 4lbs down.
106lbs to go!

fezzesarecool · 09/07/2018 14:08

Welcome BasementJacks

fezzesarecool · 09/07/2018 15:29

Ok, finally bitten the bullet and have emailed a few people about clubercise class! 😫

It looks like someone I would like and feeling at a fitness level that I could actually give it a good go without embarrassing myself.

honeysucklejasmine · 09/07/2018 15:59

Hi Basement, welcome!

Well done Fezzes!

Inspired by Post and others, I have downloaded the C25K app. I am only aiming to walk it, but I think it's a good way to up my exercise. If I can do it walking, then I'll think about jogging.

honeysucklejasmine · 09/07/2018 16:01

Oh, meal plan feedback - the sausages were nice but I think next time I'll blitz them before shaping them, they were a bit chunky when just mashed. Also, I over cooked them and they did spread a bit. The recipe does say to fry them.

honeysucklejasmine · 09/07/2018 16:01

I oven cooked them.

B1rdonawire · 09/07/2018 20:25

Thanks Post you make many good points - managed the run this morning so feeling more proactive. I have No More food allowance tonight so need to drink water and remind myself life does not end without snacks Wink The ap for some reason does not like me attempting to make a linelinelineline so that's my closest effort!

Honeysuckle genuinely I could not slow jog for 60 seconds a few months ago...there is some strange wizardry in C25k and I have no idea how it works but it truly does. Enjoy your walks and you never know, it might just draw you in. I am so slow hikers could overtake me but I don't care.

Welcome Basement this is the best thread team ever.

Let us know how it goes Fezzes sounds fun!

fezzesarecool · 09/07/2018 20:32

Still waiting to hear back from the classes but thanks.

I wanted to do this back when I started and even phoned them up but chicken out at almost 20stone I thought no way. It’s weird feeling confident and hopefully help me feel more comfortable in my skin as well as upper my fitness level.

ChristmasTablecloth · 09/07/2018 20:37

Just want to say, this is the best thread on Mumsnet! With nothing but admiration and inspiration from a frequent lurker xx

strawberrypig · 10/07/2018 06:26

Welcome basement!

I am full of admiration for the c25k peeps, I thought about starting it but remembered even at the height of physical fitness, when I did a couple of sports a day, I hated running! Too big busted!

PostNotInHaste · 10/07/2018 06:36

Welcome BasementJack, off to a great start!

Fezzes well done. That’s great you feel confident enough to go to a class. I love the increased confidence i’ve Got from the weight loss and exercise. I’ve found with the running it’s a bit like a secret club I never knew existed and end up having conversations with people I never though I’d have. It’s a big thing making the leap from exercising on your own to going out somewhere, well done. I thought i’d never wear fitness stuff in public then got to the fuck it stage, fairly safe in the knowledge I would be incognito as no one recognised me in it. So was taken aback when bumped into someone I hadn’t seen for a couple of years recently and she said she’d seen me out running, my invisibility cloak failed that morning Grin

Honeysuckle you’ve inspired me to dust the cookbooks out and have a go at something different, in a bit of a rut. I couldn’t run 60 seconds at the start and my hugely supportive, lovely DH did piss himself laughing when I first said I wanted to run 5k. He was quickly forgiven as I caught him by surprise and he knew how scathing I was about running. Walking it a great idea, will work well alternating brisker and slower paces.

B1rd that’s a very good line ! Well done on the run, brilliant - especially given the heat. I’ve been eating at maintenance pretty much the last few months and I’ve found that my weight varies by about 3 pounds over the course of the month and there’s not always an obvious reason when it goes up. I am grateful to friend who pushed me to measure myself at the start as good to see another measure of progress.

Hi ChristmasTablecloth, lovely of you to say so. Please feel free to pop in for a chat whenever you want to , have a Brew.

Right, am going to get the dog out for a walk whilst only 15 outside, how lovely not to be too hot. The weight loss has made a huge difference to my heat tolerance, friend commented on that yesterday.

PostNotInHaste · 10/07/2018 06:43

Strawberrypig I hated running and have said before, the last time I did was round the hockey pitch in 1986 when Mrs Grimshaw made us do 3 laps as warm up, I hated that woman! I think that’s why it’s been so much of a surprise i’m enjoying It. We’re lucky and have woodland round the corner and yesterday was lovely, not too hot, blue skies, the birds singing and a stag watching me as I puffed my way up the hill . I do feel that some people need to be taught to run as not a natural thing for everyone and those for who it is ie. PE teachers don’t really get that. Enell bra sorts my 34G chest out a treat, barely any movement. But at end of day you do need to enjoy whatever exercise you do and there’s loads to chose from.

fezzesarecool · 10/07/2018 07:03

PostNotInHaste Thank you Grin

You and the other c2k are inspiring me! C2k is not my thing but I want to find a fitness based ‘hobby’ that is. So hopefully will be trying these Clubbercise classes and my dd’s dance school does adult tap and musical theatre lessons so I want to give that a go too.

I’m hoping to try different things out and hoping to find what would be fun to carry on when I get to maintenance.

I loved running after a ball, I was a great sprinter, just hated long distance running! I think I have a thing for speed so cycling, swimming etc. is more my thing. DH cycles so once it gets cooler I shall be joining him for rides.
I'm not overly concerned about adding exercise in, I am really quite active anyway but the thing that appeals to me about running is the ability to be alone. I don't get a lot of time to myself at all. Even with the kids not being small anymore I still feel like I am in the book five minutes peace!
