8 weeks to lose a stone

summerslimmer · 19/05/2018 18:52

Who’s up for losing a stone in the next 8 weeks?
I’ve had a terrible year so far- chronic health problems, 2 miscarriages, depression...
In short I’ve gained a lot of weight and really want to lose at least a stone of it before a holiday in July.
Thinking I’m going to try low carb when possible as that seems to suit my body.
No friends to do this with in real life so does anyone want to join me?

Weigh 11 stone.

Breakfast - vegetable juice
Lunch - 2 beef burgers
Dinner - scrambled egg
Snack - handful of nuts and glass of wine

Well done everyone!

I started a week before you (14th May) and in this 2 weeks I'm down 8.5-9lbs, so I'm just over 13.5 stone.

I'm aiming for 2 stone but doubt I'll make it by Aug 5th which is my summer holiday!

My motivations are: I can't fit into much of my summer wardrobe; and this is forcing me to drink less wine! I'm also 55 so it's going to be a struggle!

Good luck for the next week!

Tansie1 · 28/05/2018 15:03

fatneedtobelighter- if you use Michael Mosley's 8 week Blood Sugar Diet they lay it all out for you, low carb, 800 cals a day!

SummerSlimmer · 28/05/2018 15:07

Hi to fatneedtobelighter And Hotelroomforone (And anyone else I've missed)

So much good news this week Smile well done everyone. I'm feeling more positive that I may actually fit in to some of my summer clothes again. Just got to stick with it - slow progress is better than no progress!

Enjoy the bank holiday x

Thank you! I will read up about the Blood Sugar diet. Is that what you have been following Tansie1? That is a heroic start to your diet and I am inspired!!

Gymntonic · 28/05/2018 16:57

hotelroom have you seen the low carb bootcamp vegetarian recipes thread? And Rosie Elliott's vegetarian low carb book? Personally, I find it easier to eat pulses so not the lowest of low carb but don't eat dairy. Works better for my digestion.

I agree that the blood sugar diet is probably the easiest way to do 800 calories. I'd add a good multi vitamin tablet to that though.

Thiswontendwell · 28/05/2018 17:57

I'm doing as close to the BooodSugar diet as I can fatneedtobelighter and I managed about 4lbs off this first week - so I'm inspired to carry on (and try to get closer to the actual diet!)
The book is about £3.50 on Kindle (which has the benefit of arriving instantly!) but I think it's only about £4 for a hard copy thru Amazon

HotelRoomforOne · 29/05/2018 00:55

Thanks Gymntonic Will check out the bootcamp thread. Do you you find you lose wight more slowly when including pulses? I love pulses and have heard so much conflicting info on their weight loss properties/ stuff about bloating and gut irritation. I think if I don't include pulses i will be living off veg and olive oil which is sure to make me extremely hungry.

HotelRoomforOne · 29/05/2018 00:58

Hi SummerSlimmer? I'm a late joiner, wondering what the end date is for the 8 week challenge? Lots of activity on here, wish I had much more time to read, thanks for starting us off Flowers

SummerSlimmer · 29/05/2018 08:29

Hotel- the end of the 8 weeks is 15th of July - hope it goes well for you x

hotelroom hard to say what the effect of pulses has been as I've seriously scaled back on dairy at the same time. I'm also much closer to goal now so less to lose. BMI now 23. I was losing weight but v constipated on purer lchf. Switched to some oats - oatbran porridge ( Louise Parker recipes) and oatcakes- pulses and lower fat dairy / non dairy yogs and 'milks'. Still no sugar or processed carbs. Feel much better now so more sustainable over time for me. I am consciously calorie counting on mfp (1200) and 20,000 steps. I am 53 though so all a lot harder than when I was youngerWink

BiscuitMachine · 29/05/2018 13:02

Hello all,
Just checking in to say hello and hope you are all feeling motivated! There’s been some amazing losses! I’ve had another blip yesterday, bank holiday, lovely weather and lots of birthday chocolates and wine Blush. I’m back at work today, so trying to be good again.

cheshiremama89 · 29/05/2018 17:31

@summerslimmer end date is my birthday!

Feeling motivated to get this last stone off but worried it's going to get tougher as I get closer to target?

Does anyone have an experience of this? X

SummerSlimmer · 29/05/2018 17:49

Cheshiremama89 that's a good bit of extra motivation for you! Good luck Smile

Why do you think people losing weight in a healthy, sustainable way would be interested in that sanni?

DaffoDeffo · 29/05/2018 18:53

can I ask if any of you have a problem with a low carb diet?

I have actually had this issue before when I tried dieting a few years ago. As soon as I start swapping to lower carbs and higher protein I lose all my energy and I really mean all my energy.

Yesterday I limited my carbs (but still had around 1400 calories). I slept 7 hours at night (a normal night's sleep for me) but woke up utterly starving. I had some breakfast (scrambled eggs) then at 930am I was falling asleep again as I sat down. Probably closed my eyes for 15 mins. Got up, did some work, did some chores then properly fell asleep for about 30 mins at 11am. Worked till 3pm then went to the gym but was useless - couldn't even manage 20 mins of cardio and was utterly exhausted so came home.

This is exactly what happened when I limited carbs last time. It just makes me jumpy and exhausted.

Should I push through this or do I just accept I don't have the metabolism for low carbs?

I'm back at work for the rest of the week so can't really be too exhausted.

PurpleDaisies · 29/05/2018 19:33

Low carb doesn’t work for me either daffo. I was exhausted all the time. Now I just measure my carbs so I’m eating sensible portions. That seems to work best for me.

Gymntonic · 29/05/2018 19:35

Daffo I'm not doing low low carb now but did in the early stages. Two things occur to me - Your body may well need a few days to adjust- "carb flu" they call it. Also as you drop the carbs up the fats. The theory is that eating fat trains your body to burn body fat. Certainly make you feel less hungry. Also drink lots of water. Maybe try posting on the lchf bootcamp thread if you need more pointers?
Day at the seaside here. Well within calorie level and a tan too 😀

DaffoDeffo · 29/05/2018 20:11

thanks both

purple, I think I'm going to have to do that. I've always wondered if I might be hypoglycaemic.

I googled carb flu and I see what you mean now gym - I don't think I'm going to get through it. I think the best I can do is cut out all the crap carbs (like sweets, biscuits) which I have done and focus on the good ones and not eat too much of them. I have decided to cut out bread and that was probably my biggest carb and I'll just need to be careful with the others.

I can feel I probably would have lost a lot if I had pushed through but I can't afford to be exhausted like this for a week!

Gymntonic · 29/05/2018 20:36

That's pretty much the conclusion I've come to too daffo. I feel better with a few low GI carbs and minus sugar and bread

DreamADream · 30/05/2018 08:03

Can I join in too please? I'm aiming to lose a stone by the end of July. Literally been trying to lose it for 4 years and have yo-yo'd constantly. I'm very loosely doing slimming world and have downloaded the nike app. Absolutely must lose the weight this time!

Gymntonic · 30/05/2018 10:26

Hello dream. I like your determination 😁.
WAH today. Which means sitting at laptop ( and playing on here). Sooo much easier not to munch when I'm out and about. Was 12 stone dead this morning with a flicker of 11 and 3/4 . Said I would love to get to 11 anything by the end of May - tomorrow - so absolutely got to stay strong.
Also have run 99 of my 100 miles in May challenge. Had to get home for a phone call earlier but might try and sneak out for that last mile later.

DaffoDeffo · 30/05/2018 19:07

I have started losing weight - that's probably what that utter exhaustion was! BUT I have also been called into work which is pretty disastrous for my exercise as I have a long commute and long days so I haven't been to gym today and doubt I will tomorrow or Friday. I cannot run but I'm thinking of doing a run early tomorrow (yeah right! - if I do it I will be v impressed). I do get my steps in at work as I walk from the station but it's not enough for weight loss. I know I can get to the gym on Saturday but that is probably a bit long...argh!

BiscuitMachine · 31/05/2018 09:32

Don’t worry Daffo, these things happen. I’ve be doing so well with exercise but now I’ve got a cold and cough, so I have to give it a miss for a few days. Even walking the dog was exhausting! How about going out for a walk on your lunch hour as well? Extra steps are always good.
