Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus... - Part 4

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 13/03/2018 21:12

Hello, welcome to the fourth instalment of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus …’ thread Smile

If you want to read them (but by no means feel obliged!), the previous threads are here: Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and I think we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

Collectively, we’ve lost 869 lbs since the start of the first thread, which is pretty amazing! Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

*you're at the shops

AnotherOtter · 27/03/2018 17:36

Good luck, Tractors! Hope it went smoothly and not too stressful.

Well done for starting C25K, Breaking. How did you find it? I have ordered trainers and clothes to start shortly too. It can't be that bad, right?! This probably sounds ridiculous but the thing I am most worried about is getting an attack of runners' runs as I have a dodgy gut at the best of time. I am going to drive to a park that has public toilets and run laps round it. Will have to stop stopping to talk to the dogs though.

Thank you, Honey, you are right that I am probably comparing my progress to other people's here and I should cut that out too. I have collected a lot of bad habits!

Well done to those that have lost and KOKO everyone Thanks

Cultofpersonality · 27/03/2018 17:39

Wow, Honey that’s really interesting. It seems like a drop in the ocean compared to what I want to lose. Good to be able to put it in to perspective though! Thanks

OJZJ · 27/03/2018 17:57

Well done with the weight losses everyone.
post that is amazing esp as you're my age, so it proves you can still lose weight as you get older..
I am struggling with dieting at the moment as any weight I lose is regained next week (obviously not running away quick enough when first lose it!)
So watching the thread for inspirationSmile
Here's one for you Honey
Making your own nut butter to go with the sliced apple (i core and do the slices like little bagels not wedgesSmile )
Making my own actual butter wasn't a success but I actually made almond butter!! and so chuffed with the results plus it's so easyand does actually taste nicer than the shop bought almond butter 😊
I Literally warmed almonds in the oven for 20 mins (releases oils but tbh my almonds had been in the cupboard for 6 months so freshening them up was nearer)
And blended in a cheap blender for around 20 mins the almonds do get hot and I gave my old cheap blender a rest every few mins so didnt burn out. It does get to be a dry paste but the secret is to keep going after that stage until it becomes a smooth nut butter. I added sea salt for flavour but thats it!
I sterilized a wee glass jar and keep in the fridge.
I feel like an absolute cookong ninja (my skills in the kitchen leave a lot to be desired)
But I had it on slices of apple earlier and thought of you guys hence the long winded post Grin

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 27/03/2018 19:28

Thanks all - I am exhausted, new starts are tiring! Had a good day, and while everything seems a bit disorganised, they all seem nice. Glad it's just a three day week, so I can recover and get some sleep in over the weekend...

Lunch is going to be interesting - no food allowed in offices, but no real 'break space' either. There's literally a cool box stowed for milk for teas/coffees (glad I take mine black!), but no other fridge facilities. Apparently everyone heads to the shops over lunch, but I know that a) I can't afford to buy lunch like that every day, and b) there aren't very many healthy options nearby. Boots shapers is about as healthy as it gets, which still isn't ideal. However, lots of time to work something out, I'm sure there must be others in the same boat - will keep an eye out tomorrow Wink

Hope you're all doing well - well done Cult, that example from honey is brilliant!

Hello everyone.

NoTractors So pleased to hear that everything went well today! That does sound like a rather odd setup - hope you manage to find something that works for you. When the weather warms up, could you possibly sit outside on your lunch break and eat a packed lunch?

I've just ordered myself a new lunchbox for work, I'm really excited. It's only one of the Sistema Quaddie boxes, but I've wanted one since the beginning of high school and never had one.

I'm back on track today. Had salmon for dinner which was lovely, haven't had it in absolutely ages.

OJZJ Your recipe for almond butter sounds really nice! I'm not such a fan of almonds but it might be worth trying it with other nuts?

Honey It's great to put it in perspective like that.

Still feeling shakey after the other day, so strange how anxiety can take hold and not let go for quite a while over something that would seem insignificant to others. The nerves about next week aren't helping, I suppose!

B1rdonawire · 27/03/2018 20:48

Really glad the people at your new job are nice NoTractors - hope you discover the healthy packed lunch-ers soon!

I lost 1lb yesterday (total loss 53lbs). But then I just ate and ate last night, I don't know what got into me. It was sheer anxiety / self sabotage. Trying to remind myself I've been at this for 9 months and there's a lot of road left ahead yet, so 1 bad day is just ... 1 bad day, and I need to put it behind me. Staying on track has been hard today so it might be an early night to save me from ravaging the cupboards again Grin

School's broken up here now, so a bit of extra challenge ahead juggling work / energetic child / some scary hosp appointments coming up for my mum. One day at a time. Tomorrow, I will make up a big batch of soup. That will do for a plan to start with - healthy AND comforting.

Anyone got any good strategies for moderation when surrounded by Easter eggs at the weekend?!

OJZJ · 27/03/2018 21:41

NoTractors no food in the office means no temptation though Smile what about a meal replacement bar or drink. Pop it in your bag and no mess, a drink can even be out in a big so they don't know.
LittleBear I only tried Almonds as that's what I had in I want to try cashew or peanut next Smile trouble is my five year old must be the only kid in the world who refuses to eat peanut butter???

honeysucklejasmine · 27/03/2018 21:50

b1rd give up dairy and soya, then try to find an egg you can actually eat! That helps 😭 (DH has duly found me one, bless him, and you can be sure I am going to make that sucker last as long as possible) You're absolutely right of course, 1 bad day in 9 months of progress is a mere blip. Sounds like you're being sensible and recognising it for what it is.

OJ That sounds great! I am not sure my blender can handle it but I will definitely try!

Tractors glad the first day went well. Never heard of "no food in office", that's so bizarre! What sector do you work in? The only place I've not been allowed food was my lab at uni. I used to eat in my classroom though, as I never handled chemicals on my desk and washed my hands first, obvs. I shouldn't think you're the only one who doesn't want to buy lunch every day. I guessing summer you could find a nice bench somewhere?

Bear have you ever had CBT? I've heard it's quite good for managing anxiety. I had antenatal anxiety and panic attacks and it was awful. It went away after ds was born, thankfully.

DS has been given some steroid cream. He has had a few really bad nights, scratching himself like crazy. So hoping we see an improvement there, and that we've isolated all his intolerances. It's not looking good for oats, which is annoying as I've been eating oat products as my dairy substitute. 🤦

BreakingSad · 27/03/2018 22:11

Glad it went well today Notractors no help on the lunch front though

AnotherOtter the fear of running was a lot worst than actually doing it. I do like the way it's set out over the nine weeks, but still daunting to feel confident enough to run for half an hour by the end of it. I do feel I'm cheating though, as I'm doing it on a treadmill, which I know is a completely different experience to running outside.

Honeysuckle hope your ds gets some relief soon.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 28/03/2018 18:13

Glad it's not just me who thinks it's odd - I worked in science a long time ago and we were rather blasé about eating where we shouldn't - we had a mug shelf in the lab at one point, so you could nip over and have a few glugs of coffee to keep you going Grin. This is just a bog-standard private sector office - but apparently there was a huge mouse problem (as in several, not just one big mouse Grin) and the only way to get rid was to stop any food coming into the building Hmm. You're right OJ it does mean less temptation!
I have found a solution though - at the risk of being too outing, a local cafe turns a blind eye to people bringing their own food, as long as they buy a hot drink and don't spend all day there!

Bear - I find it really helpful to turn the feeling of nerves into excitement. As in saying "I'm not nervous about this job, I'm excited to show them what I'm capable of" - I swear that's the way I got through my interview! I'd second honey's suggestion of CBT, and know people that have tried DBT to good effect too.

b1rd how are you feeling today, have you dusted yourself off from the other night? Can't help on the Easter egg front, as I'm not a fan of chocolate, so it's easier for me to ignore.

honey hope DS starts feeling better soon.

Breaking - go you with your C25K! Very impressed.

Hope everyone else is KOKOing, we're nearly at the weekend! Wink

Bit worried I've broken the thread with my preoccupation with lunch Blush...

OP posts:
B1rdonawire · 28/03/2018 21:29

Maybe we've all gone quiet in awe at the thought of the office "giant mouse" Grin

Am going to have to deploy a couple of Easter choc strategies:

  1. Avoid - my lovely DM is buying me a plant for the garden instead
  2. Control - I am just going to have to weigh the choc and portion it out.

It's my weakness. I don't drink alcohol, don't miss crisps or savoury stuff, at a push could give up cheese without that much of a pang...but chocolate, the good stuff, that's what does it for me.

Today has been steadier, so that's good. How's everyone else doing?

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 28/03/2018 22:38

Isn’t it funny how different we all are? I’m the complete opposite - could easily give up chocolate, cake, sweets, but would really struggle to give up savoury stuff, and especially cheese for any length of time. Just hammers home how important finding a balance is - if I were to deprive myself entirely, I’d be head first into a bag of Wotsits within a week, but making consistently considered choices, I (generally) feel a lot more in control.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 28/03/2018 22:40

Oh and TractorCat would quite happily see off a huge mouse, should one appear, so you’re all safe to come out Grin

Hi all

Just a sneaky one checking in

Nice to read how everyone’s going to try and keep me in check while I’m away.

However I’ve had 2 cooked breakfasts this week, 2 takeaways and we’re eating out tonight 😳 I have tried to balance out the calories to make a ‘allowance’ for the meals and I’ve managed to get in some exercise so fingers crossed that was enough to maintain and not put anything on

I’m going to use some self control and not weigh myself the second we get home as we will arrive in the evening and want a proper weigh in the the morning

Glad you worked a way around lunch tractors! The regular everyday things are hard to manage

Hope everyone’s having a good week

moonlight1705 · 29/03/2018 09:56

Sorry I haven't posted properly in ages - work just seems to take over life. How has your first week been Tractor?
I can bring in my own lunches which is great, unfortunately a jacket potato van sits outside our office and tempts me every so often.

Anyway my best news is that I officially don't have diabetes......I had a regular thyroid blood test and they chucked in the HbA1c test as well which comes out at a beautifully normal percentage. I think the doctor almost wanted me to be pre-diabetic so she could point the finger at the weight
Do you find that whenever you go to the doctor, they tell you that whatever is wrong is down to weight? "You've got a broken arm....must be your weight" "You've got malaria....must be your weight"

I'm going to weight tomorrow instead of Saturday as we're off to a cottage for the Easter weekend. I think I am going to actually eat better being off and walking around the countryside than when I am bored at work and chomping on biscuits.
I am having an egg but I will try and make it last over a few days rather than scoffing it down over the Sunday.

Hope you are all doing well on the run up to Easter.

LittleBearinaBigWorld · 29/03/2018 10:21

Thank you for the suggestions of CBT; having looked into it, I need to register with a GP in my city (still registered with the one near my mum's) and then I can refer myself through the community health website, and hopefully something will come of that. If not, it's £80 a session...

B1rd I'm more of a savoury person too! I just think how much money I must be saving not buying takeaways and lunch from the shop every day!

Funny that, actually. I was thinking, 'ooh I might get some cherry tomatoes for lunch from the shop' then I was like 'ooh no it'll be too expensive' but then I reminded myself I never had a problem buying a sandwich and whatever else every day! And breakfast

Hope you are enjoying yourself Fezzes!

Moonlight that's fantastic news! My GP also does that - I remember when I was about 12 with a spine issue - 'oh yeah, that's definitely your weight', turned out I'd torn a muscle in PE...

honeysucklejasmine · 29/03/2018 12:59

moonlight I was under the joint clinic for endocrine and diabetes during both my pregnancies (I have hypothyroidism). I swear the diabetes consultant was so upset that I never got diabetes. I did plenty of glucose tolerance tests at her request and always passed them easily.

moonlight1705 · 30/03/2018 11:22

Loss this week: 1lb
Total loss: 4lb

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 30/03/2018 17:44

Swift drop in to say well done moonlight!

I've done over 28,000 steps today - it has been a while since that happened! Smile

Well done *moonlight
*
Impressed with the steps Notractors it's been pouring with rain here all day, so I'll be lucky to hit my 10,000

Anyone get an email from MyFitnessPal, saying they had a security breech and to change passwords.

Moonandstars84 · 30/03/2018 19:36

Wel done moonlight. notractors fab steps.
Had lunch out today. Opted for a 600 calorie meal in a restaurant where it is hard to make good choices. Than had a creme egg milkshake. Sadly it wasn't as nice as it looked.

honeysucklejasmine · 30/03/2018 20:42

Breaking I did. I just looked at my app and honestly I don't know how to change it! 😳

Had a difficult week. I'm on course to gain weight this week despite being under my calorie goal every day. I am blaming the coil I got last week and I am livid. I am finally doing this, I can't be sabotaged now. If I gain weight for two weeks in a row, I'm getting it out asap. I am so sad about this. I'm really feeling the strain of such a restricted diet, and now I'm not even losing weight. 😤

fezzesarecool · 30/03/2018 22:04

I’m back and stayed off the scales!

I had a great holiday thanks bigworld, we really needed to get away. Now we need one to recover from it lol

Great loss moonlight, each pound quickly adds up

Honey, feeling your frustration It takes a lot of work to get into the right mindset and will power to stick to it If you do get it out, maybe you’ll end up having a nice whoosh

Dreading tomorrow’s weighing in, it was really hard to balance calories and I didn’t manage much exercise and AF is starting too

So think I definitely need some motivation to do what I can this week but it’ll be hard with the kids off

Hope everyone’s having a good bank holiday
