Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus... - Part 4

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 13/03/2018 21:12

Hello, welcome to the fourth instalment of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus …’ thread Smile

If you want to read them (but by no means feel obliged!), the previous threads are here: Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and I think we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

Collectively, we’ve lost 869 lbs since the start of the first thread, which is pretty amazing! Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

I weigh weekly at boots but won't tomorrow as have kids off for half term and I'm paranoid about giving them issues with eating like mine!

I so want to know though....

I don't think eating went as well today as kids made gingerbread and cake. I felt I ought to try them. It's amazing now it's not what I normally eat I didn't really want more and even later missed the usual salad I've been having.

A friend is posting huge losses with slimming world. I don't think it's really for me as long term I'd get obsessed with counting rather than eating healthily but I'm a bit envious of how quick she's losing!

nicknamehelp · 29/05/2018 15:33

Carb heavy lunch so going for a light tea.

Scared some do just loose quickly but will it stay off?

No gym today as decided needed a rest.

Cagliostro · 29/05/2018 15:59

I am definitely happy to lose slowly myself. Partly that may be as I am scared to try too hard in case I fail! But I also know that making small habit changes will stick. For example with fizzy drinks, I used to have them every day, but I have now had one in the last 9 days and that feels totally normal as it was a sustainable change.

Feeling a bit down today and that’s definitely shown in my eating (I’m getting better at recognising the emotional eating signals and have definitely cut back, but I have a loooong way to go). Really struggling with hormones since baby arrived - I had no periods at all until my middle DC (now 8) was 11 months, thanks to BFing. Am EBFing again, and periods started at 12 weeks! And they’re a bit haywire and the PMT is horrendous, I feel really depressed every time and horrifically anxious/paranoid.

I hope nobody minds, I have attached a photo of my current view (please excuse the fact she’s still got her hand up my top 😳😂). I should really move her and try a quick workout if she stays asleep. Have finally got the other two to play upstairs (well actually I told them to tidy their room but hey ho 🙄)

Cagliostro · 29/05/2018 16:50

Woo. Did it. Well sort of. I made the mistake of trying one that didn’t have “beginner” in the title 🤦‍♀️ so I didn’t finish it. I then did a yoga one just focusing on neck/shoulders and even that was quite difficult. Feel really weak today. Not sure if period related or maybe I’m starting to notice the effects of sugar more since I’m cutting back?! Or maybe I’m clutching at straws and I need to accept my extra exercise last week has caused a bit of a fibro flare 😡

Sorry for waffling 💐

B1rdonawire · 29/05/2018 17:29

What an adorable view! Great strength of mind to tear yourself away Grin

honeysucklejasmine · 29/05/2018 19:12

What a lovely view! I had similar earlier, but I had to wake him up because he's been a bedtime menace lately so I'm cracking down on late naps.

I have 624 calories left today. Oops. And that's after a slice of chocolate cake. Maybe some toast with peanut butter when the kids are in bed. Luxury.

BreakingSad · 29/05/2018 19:56

Lovely view Cagliostro and good job exercising with your little ones around.

I've overindulge a bit to much this weekend, trying to claw back a deficit Smile** think I'll be lucky to STS

Enjoy your peanut butter on toast Honey

Xenia · 29/05/2018 20:16

Anyone with Netflix do watch "The Magic Pill" which is about sensible healthy eating for good health. I just finished watching it and it's very good.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 29/05/2018 21:21

Thanks for the recommendation Xenia - from looking at the overview it appears to be about the keto diet, is that correct? It doesn't agree with me (annoying, as it is delicious!) but can't argue with that it works for a lot and at least one poster on this thread did very well on it.

I've been inspired by you Cagliostro and have done a yoga vid myself tonight Wink. Also getting my groove back by micromanaging my evenings - tomorrow's breakfast and lunch are made, and I still have leftover chicken for tomorrow night (it's not a mythical MN chicken, just being thrifty with it!).

Hope you're all KOKOing Smile

Sounds good. Best to find what works for you.

honeysucklejasmine · 30/05/2018 10:29

I've bitten the bullet and ammended my calorie goal on mfp. I have it on -1.5lb pw. I changed it to -2 then back to -1.5lb, and it's not giving me a calorie goal of about 100 less than before. I figured it was time, as I weigh less now. (For -2lb pw it was 1200! I think I'd die.)

Hopefully will give me a little boost.

I ordered a t-shirt from Matalan the other week which I love. It's rainbow striped. DH was ordering some shorts from them and I asked him to get me another one in a smaller size. I'm an 18 at the moment. The next smallest size available was a 12, which is my target size. So we've ordered it. Eep.

Kikidelivers · 30/05/2018 11:24

Hi all

Not been around much as I have so much on. I think I’m going to have to bow out of the thread. But absolutely not the weight loss.

I weighed myself this morning. I have lost 6 pounds in 11 days. I’m pleased but what I’m most pleased about is that it hasn’t felt hard or a hardship.
Porridge and yoghurt at breakfast
Huge salads
Loads of veg
Some dates and dried apricots instead of a biscuit break.

Never less than 8000 steps a day. And two runs a week (very early, very slow)

My daughter turned to me last night and said she is very proud of me. I cried.

We can do this. We can we can we can! We can reclaim back our bodies. I am already starting to feel my body is more my own.

Good luck. If I can do this, anyone can.

AnotherOtter · 30/05/2018 12:23

Breaking, I am considering a parkrun once I can run 5k (amazing that I now believe I will be able to do that soon!) but found out from the website that there are a huge number of people at my nearest one. Folk obviously travel from all over. Something to aim for though Smile

Great to hear that your daughter is doing better, Nickname. How long until your holiday?

I have learnt a lot lurking on S&B, Tractors. Picked up some great recommendations for shops to try and ideas of what styles of clothes suit particular shapes. I've bought quite a lot of Hush clothes as a lot of those suit busty apples.

B1rd, my motivation has definitely waxed and waned in the time since I started dieting again last July. Sometimes I feel pepped up and strong and it seems to come easily and other times it is just a fucking struggle. I try to tell myself that the difficult times will pass as they always have in the past. I wonder if it's actually an advantage for me having bipolar disorder in that respect as my moods naturally cycle so I know for a fact that I will get a new mood state at some point. But I think most folks moods drift over time even if not to bipolar extremes. I keep meaning to write a list of reasons why I want to lose weight on my phone to refer to when times are tough. Been meaning to do that for months! It definitely helped when I gave up smoking. Good to look over and add to the list as new stuff comes up too. Anyway, you have my sympathy as I am hoovering round the same weight and finding it very frustrating too. Only two options: keep trying to lose weight, maybe tweak things a bit, or give up and put it all back on again. Fuck the latter. But do whatever you can to make the former as easy and straightforward as possible. Good luck with run 3 of week 5. You really can physically do it if you've done the previous runs! Trust the programme Smile

What a beautiful baby, Cagliostro, a great view.

Well done to everyone who is KOKO despite the tough times Thanks

Cagliostro · 30/05/2018 13:03

Kiki (love the name, as my own indicates I am something of a Miyazaki fan :o) that’s amazing. How lovely that your daughter said that!

Otter writing a list for motivation is a great idea!

Too much carbs the last couple of days. Blah.

nicknamehelp · 30/05/2018 16:49

Another was meant to be this half term but dd not well enough. Never mind we've given up planning hols to far in advance as we've cancelled so many due to her health. Took us 4 years to leave 100 mile radius of home due to her health at the start.

Been a good day today under c.c done a bit of cycling and enjoyed life. Some times it's the simple things.

I want to get a stone off by mid Aug which is my next goal. I'm planning now as got a stressful few weeks. Dd has an op and is leaving primary school. Op day and run up/after have huge emotional eating hurdles to get over. Then we have several food socialising events planned. So need support ladies! Think will have to be v strict on c.c and going to gym on the non stress days to meet goal.

Cagliostro · 30/05/2018 17:47

I. Am. So. Hungry.

BUT. I know I am actually bored too which isn’t helping. And I also know that while I am genuinely hungry, it is due to having over-carbed myself during the day and so my blood sugar has been sent up too much which is causing a crash. Knowing WHY is helpful.

Also there is a lovely pork joint roasting in the oven so I will carry on drinking water and enjoy my meal all the more when it’s done.

I did a workout earlier, a core strength one which was challenging but not tiring. That said I then felt like I hadn’t done anything ‘proper’ Hmm but I know my core needs serious work (the baby has better tummy muscles than me) and toning is important while losing weight right? I know there will be loose skin - I have escaped it so far as while I was losing weight during the pregnancy I was obviously still stretching the bump skin so it seems to have balanced out Confused :o but want to minimise it as far as possible of course

honeysucklejasmine · 30/05/2018 19:19

Cagliostro loose skin is fact of life I'm afraid. Some people have excellent genetics and it snaps back, but not everyone. My friends DH has lost 98lbs and maintained a bit, you'd never know. However I think I'm doomed to have bingo wings for life. But tbh, I'd take wearing sleeves or cardigans in the future over staying this overweight. My stomach will probably be wrecked, but I've had two babies in two years, 2 minor keyhole surgeries and a major, 15cm long gnarley scar, so my abdomen was hardly a thing of beauty anyway! For me, it's going to be about sensible dressing. Though tbf I feel a million dollars already, sod what my arms look like!

TLDR; you can tone the muscle under skin but not necessarily the skin.

I just had the most lush pudding:
100g Koko plain yogurt
25g toasted oats
30g sultanas
15g runny honey

Like flapjack in a bowl. It's roughly 300 cals but so worth it.

honeysucklejasmine · 31/05/2018 14:01

Quiet round here!

moonlight1705 · 31/05/2018 14:11

waves to honey - your pudding sounds yummy! Hope you enjoyed every bite.

Cagiostro going to have to message you about pregnancy and weight loss then Smile Your DD is a picture.

How is everyone's week going? Mine has been great although not so wonderful on the food side. I'm not really going to do low calorie for the 5:2 but am generally trying to stick at around 1800 calories a day without too much sugar.

Good day today. Weigh in tomorrow.

puppydogmummy · 31/05/2018 20:31

Have been lurking on this thread and am finding it a real help to me. Have about 4 stone to lose, have been going ok for last month but wondered if anyone could advise me on exercise? I've been increasing my walking to over 10000 steps a day and find walking with my dog very calming . But when should I be thinking about stepping things up? I got a free pass from gym from dr. But don't feel ready yet. I'm 5'2 and just over 15 stone.

B1rdonawire · 31/05/2018 21:58

Hello all! Dusted off my Fitbit today found it in the bottom of an old handbag dutifully wore it all day then this eve discovered it hadn't been counting because it had been dormant SO long the software all needed re-syncing Blush Ah well, tomorrow is another day etc etc

Puppydog I'm 11 months into this, and really only started exercising a couple of months ago. I'm still not exactly hard core but am enjoying waddling my way through Couch to 5k. No babysitter tonight (plus lashing down) so tonight's run was cancelled. Forced myself to do the "30 day shred" DVD. It was not pretty! Designed to be high intensity I guess, and I much prefer my own plodding around the local nature reserve. Did the job though, and helped with my stir craziness (stuck at home since Tues as DD has sick bug. Nights have not been fun.)

Thanks AnotherOtter great voice of perspective there!

nicknamehelp · 01/06/2018 09:25

Got my period on last night and put 4 lb o sometimes it sucks being a woman!

BreakingSad · 01/06/2018 12:55

It certainly does suck sometimes nickname

I've STS this week, happy after last weekend over indulgence. Still doing my running (still slow) 3x a week, feel I can add some weight and strength training back in now, as I have been just concentrating on the running.

B1rd I kow that feeling, I was gutted when I'd left my Fitbit charging and went to work, all those hours not counting my steps. I think I was becoming a bit obsessed about the loss of steps and calories burnedGrin

puppydog I've been doing exercises right from the start, I try not to associate it with losing weight, but in getting fitter. I do a variety usually stationary bike, weights, walking and I just finished the c25K. Everything I do I enjoy doing, or I wouldn't be able to stick to it. It's finding things that you can make part of your routine and is sustainable. There'll never be a right time, just start small and build it up.n
