Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus... - Part 4

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 13/03/2018 21:12

Hello, welcome to the fourth instalment of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus …’ thread Smile

If you want to read them (but by no means feel obliged!), the previous threads are here: Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and I think we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

Collectively, we’ve lost 869 lbs since the start of the first thread, which is pretty amazing! Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

Thank you B1rd, varies as to what pain there is but after gallbladder pain it is very bearable so i’m Okish thankfully.

NoTractors they sound like a pair of arseholes and that old cliche applies - you can get thinner, they forever patroniding arseholes will remain.

Honeysuckle I hope you’re all on the mend now. I think tiredness is a big issue for a lot of people re food.

Notanurse bloody hell is all I can say to that. I used to think it was only a small minority of people who were horrible but as i’m getting older and more cynical I’m feeling it’s a much higher percentage. So sorry your gallbladder op turning into a saga. Totally agree you need the hernia doing at the same time. Guess first step is to get hold of the Consultant and see where that leads. It’s so sad, remember when I was first diagnosed 14 years ago my Gp at the time said I’d be surprised how short the waiting list was. Not surprised you’re feeling deflated, you’ve been through a lot this year. You are doing brilliantly though and even if you decide to maintain for a bit you’re health wise in a much better place , hang in there.

Nicknamehelp I think to keep on track in these circumstances shows a rod of steel running through you, huge reserves of inner strength and determination. Great loss and very impressed at your choice of dinner. Think yiu’ve Nailed it though, life is never easy and if you wait for a ‘good time to lose weight’ it never happens. And your comment about being selfish will probably resonate with a few of us. It’s not though is it really, just doing what we need to be to be healthy but how many of us have ended up not doing that being too busy with everyone else’s needs.

BreakingSad a huge well done on the 2lbs and finishing C25K, it’s a great feeling isn’t it and really does seem like some kind of magic?! That’s roughly where I was at the end of the course. To put is in perspective it would take you about 43mins to do 5k somif you had done my local Parkrun yesterday you would have finished before about 30 people. Not that Parkrun is about that but I desperately wanted to not be last ! It can be a bit strange not having the program any more so I found it helpful to have a bit of a routine ie. days of the week you’re going to do or a plan to gradually increase up the distance or to introduce hills etc. The step up to any greater distance is much easier than couch to that first mile. As your muscles get stronger you’ll very gradually get faster so don’t worry about speed. If you look up your local Parkruns you can see this week’s results so get a bit of a feel for it and see if you know anyone doing it , I slightly changed my name when I joined after realising that !

Fezzes well done! More mini goals a great idea.

Moonlight well done on STS. Think if you are Indian late then got a STS then next week you might get a nice surprise at the scales.

Well done MegJo, with the rate this year is flying by 50lbs will soon be here,

Up a pound and a half this week but AF here so water weight. I did see a bit of a loss earlier this week which made total loss 102lbs, hopefully that will reappear fairly soon. I am finding closer to goal Ingain more hormonally than I used to but that’s fine. Had builder round for first time since last August. He looked at me and said ‘bloody hell you’ve gone all skinny’ which did make me laugh. Skinny definitely pushing it but even I can see I do look different.

Despite fibroid and perimenopause causing some problems I do have more energy. Yesterday I managed Parkrun at 9 and help out on a stall somewhere just gone 10 which would have been unthinkable not that long.

ChestyNut · 20/05/2018 09:53

STS this week
50lb 12oz lost

Finding it frustratingly slow at the minute but trying to be sensible and keep to small changes that I can maintain rather than cutting it all out and falling off the wagon as previous habits.

Did x2 Fast hill waddles this week.

Just wish it would hurry up and drop off Grin

Off to catch up with the thread Flowers

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 20/05/2018 11:11

STS this week - was doing well but rather ashamed to say I ate my feelings after the dickhead conversation earlier in the week Blush which knocked any loss on the head. Drawing a line and moving on...

I have cheered myself up a bit though - have been rather aggressively paying down some credit card debt for the last 9 months or so. It has been on various 0% cards for years and while I've been paying it down gradually, I've reached the stage that I just want it gone. I've made my last balance transfer shuffle, so as long as I stick to my current payments, then I'll be debt free (and having paid next to no interest) by this time next year. So while I'm not pleased that I've had this debt for so long, I'm feeling positive about it now I had a solid plan. The irony that this mimics almost exactly my weight loss plans is not lost on me...! Grin

Loss this week: 0.4lbs
Total loss: 91.4lbs
To go: 9.6lbs

Not much off this week, could well be really a STS as up late. Had a medication change which won't help my weight. But have tipped down into the next BMI bracket and now 24.9. Still have a very protuberant upper abdomen and too high a waist measurement though. I don't carry my weight at all well and am much bigger than others at the same weight going by those mumsnet threads that appear regularly. So I think I will be revising down my goal weight in an attempt to get a lower waist measurement. On the plus side, I did my twenty minutes non-stop running and completed week 5 of C25K.

Happy belated birthday, Moonlight! STS after a good week is progress I think. Good practice for maintenance.

Tractors and Notanurse, that is rubbish that you had to deal with those people's fuckwittery. They were totally out of order and it's not fair that you were subjected to them Thanks

How are the kids doing, Honey? Hope there's been some improvement and you've all got some sleep.

Congratulations on completing C25K, Breaking Star Very well done.

Well done on your loss Nickname and on making time for yourself. It must be so hard with such a poorly child to be able to do that but a healthy Mum benefits her too.

My weight fluctuations around my period have changed as well, Post. I used to have slower loss for two weeks then a whoosh. The whoosh fairy has been slacking for some time. Hopefully she will visit you next week!

Well done everyone who has weighed in whether you have lost or are just KOKO. It all counts Thanks

honeysucklejasmine · 20/05/2018 14:20

Loss this week: 2lbs
Lost to date: 46lbs
Loss to go: 56lbs

I'm technically at my "by my birthday" target now (16.0, a week ahead of schedule) so I'm just going to see what happens and how I get on. Asking as it says 15 something I don't care! I'm eyeing up 3.5st lost, which will be when I am 15.11, 3lbs away. I'm going to say target on 10th June for that. Birthday plus bank holiday weekend might throw me off, and I've a friend coming to stay so who knows what we'll end up doing. At least my eating out options are restricted, so can't spunk it all away on a dirty burger somewhere.

Thanks for asking after the kiddies. We're coming towards the end of their conjunctivitis treatment now, so DS has decided he might cut another tooth. DH has taken DD to the park, and is stopping at shops on way back for calpol and nurofen so I think that says it all. 😂😂 DD is "mystery miserable" - no illness we nor doctor can detect but nonetheless improves with calpol. I have a killer sore throat so maybe she has too?

My brother is in hospital with pneumonia again (he was very unwell with it in January, as was I) but I don't want to visit seeing as we're unwell.

So, NSV time! I purchased a pair of size 18 trousers. They fit. Like, actually fit. Not "just about", not "as long as I don't bend down". They actually fit.

It's kind of weird because after size 18 didn't fit any more, I mostly stopped buying trousers. I lived in dress and leggings for a few years, so in a way it's like "of course, I was always a size 18", but actually I need to face up to the fact I was more like a 22-24 but was in denial. I think when I get to a 16 I will be proper happy, and any smaller and I honestly won't remember when I last bought clothes that small. I was about a 16-18 in my late teens, so we're talking a very long time ago.

I also made a graph of my measurements. It's pleasing to see them decrease!

honeysucklejasmine · 20/05/2018 14:34

Nerdy graph attached. I measure my ankle because as I'm sure you've all experienced, I just can't get ankle boots to fit properly. So it's nice to know that problem is being addressed too.

So, clothes. I've decided a brutal cull is in order. What I can't charity shop, I will put out for recycling. This is what I have:

navy tile long trousers 18
navy flower long trousers 18
spotty cropped trousers 18

light blue jeans 18
black cropped trousers 18

black vest 20
black vest 20
black vest 18
white vest 18
white vest 18
grey vest 18
yellow vest 18

spotty t-shirt 18
feather t-shirt 18
blue feather t-shirt 18
stripy t-shirt 18

The vests go with patterned trousers and the t shirts with the plain trousers/jeans.

I have requested a dress and a jacket for my birthday from my favourite store (Lindy Bop).

Otherwise, (not including underwear), I'm getting rid. Do not need excessive amounts of clothes!

I have some size 16 jeans, brand new with tags, that I bought a good decade while ago, so they'll do when I hit that size, and I'll probably wear a mix of size 16/18 clothes, shedding any that become unflattering, until I can start again with size 14 eeeeeeee

I'm shopping at Matalan mostly as quite cheap but nice stuff, and I love their "longline" vests etc for hiding "2 babies in 2 years" belly. 😂

Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus... - Part 4
honeysucklejasmine · 20/05/2018 14:38

When I say "what I have" I mean, in the right size. Everything else is going.

nicknamehelp · 20/05/2018 14:51

Well done all on losses.

Was going to hit gym but been sitting in garden with friend drinking tea. It's ops till 8 so I may pop in a bit but it's nice to enjoy the sun!

B1rdonawire · 20/05/2018 15:10

That's brilliant about finishing C25k Breaking !

Weekend has not gone to plan as spent yesterday either in out of hours GP or at the hospital, due to a dodgy insect bite intent on taking over my leg. Many IV drugs later I was home in time for DD's bedtime, tired but relieved - DD coped brilliantly yesterday looked after by my family, but is limpet-clingy today. Roll on bedtime!

I should do a wardrobe cull too Honeysuckle you've inspired me. Wearing one of my new Medium tops today and feeling so proud I want to put the label on the outside Grin

honeysucklejasmine · 20/05/2018 16:37

Gosh B1rd, glad you're ok! Well done for seeking help for it, sounds very serious.

Wow, breaking! I missed your post. Congratulations! What an achievement!

honeysucklejasmine · 20/05/2018 16:42

Does anyone sew? I've got some old Lindy Bop dresses I've previously adjusted so can't really sell on (there's a good second hand market - just sold two size 22s to fund my new size 18 stuff) so am going to cut the top half off, move zip, take a bit off the sides, and presto! Skirt!

moonlight1705 · 21/05/2018 15:08

I'm going to try and reply to all later but just for now.....being obese isn't all bad. Smile

We were breaking boards with hands & elbows last night in taekwondo and only myself and another quite big chap managed to get through the black board. We think its because we had body weight momentum to get through whilst some of the slimmer members just bounced off!

nicknamehelp · 21/05/2018 17:26

Moonlight every cloud!

I didn't make gym yesterday dd wasn't good enough to leave but have been after work today. My eatting is under control so all good here.

nicknamehelp · 21/05/2018 17:55

Just looked up my mini goals list and I'm 4lb off where I wanted to be now so added that to the next goal a stone off by August. Which I'm hoping now I'm getting into the gym will be possible.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 21/05/2018 18:00

I took a break because things were nuts over here and I’ve missed so much! To many messages to reply individually but I just wanted to say I hope everyone is ok and well done on all these victories and losses!

I just can’t get my head in gear. I’m really struggling mentally right now and I just can’t find a way to get out of it and concentrate on weight loss. I received a letter last week saying that my therapy appointment for over eating has been pushed back until January 2019 which is good Hmm

I feel like all I do is moan on here with nothing productive to say so I’ll just be hovering in the background being a lurker but thank you all for the messages and replies I receive, I think you’re all fab!

nicknamehelp · 21/05/2018 19:29

Ihopeyousteponlego. That's not good on appointment. I have found guided relaxation helps me (when I remember to do it) keep lurking as it may be the crutch you need to help you. It's not easy any of this if it was we wouldn't need this thread!

Kikidelivers · 21/05/2018 20:26

New and quite honestly scared
Will you have me?
I can’t promise I’ll be an inspiration to anyone but I am determined to try.

I’m finally ready to do this but as little steps. Very tentatively I started last week. Weighed myself this morning and I have lost a pound. Sounds so pathetic but it’s in the right direction, so I’ll take that!

May I ask, what was your diet pre diet? What was a normal day? And how does that compare to now?

No pressure to respond

Thanks

Kikidelivers · 21/05/2018 20:27

. Wearing one of my new Medium tops today and feeling so proud I want to put the label on the outside grin

I love love love this!

honeysucklejasmine · 21/05/2018 20:44

Hi Kiki! Welcome! Do you have a broom?! Shock Wink My pre diet diet wasn't necessarily bad, just too much! I could happily find myself eating 6+ slices of bread a day, complete with huge amounts of toppings. It's why slimming world wasn't good for me - I already ate plenty of fruit and veg, portion size is my problem.

Using MFP now, 46lbs down and v happy.

nicknamehelp · 21/05/2018 21:05

Welcome kiki my pre diet was binge/emotional eating and kidding myself over portions.

I've stuck to mfp and c.c everything I've also started the gym.

B1rdonawire · 21/05/2018 21:25

Honeysuckle your post about sewing got me thinking. Tonight U dusted off my old adjustable mannequin and set it to my current measurements (it was a birthday present years ago and I never dared try and see if it went up to my then "shape"). Sure the overall size is still substantial but actually the mannequin looks...OK. It really surprised me in a good way. Would love to see your newly created skirts!

Kiki hello! Pre-changes, my biggest food problem was post-7pm huge intake of junk (mainly chocolate but I was equal opportunities for sugar and crisps too!) I still find I "need" something after wrangling DD into bed, so I plan a small measured snack at that time. Good luck as you make your own changes - what do you think you'll want to do? I'm using SW and shuffling my way through couch to 5k. There's something I never thought I'd do!

Nickname you sound very focused, that's fab.

Lego I hope things get easier for you soon. That sucks about your appointment. Is there a cancellation list you can get on, in case anything comes up sooner?

honeysucklejasmine · 21/05/2018 21:31

B1rd DH is off work for a week on Wednesday so I'm going to crack out the sewing machine then I think. I was thinking I would just adjust them down to my target size, but then thought, why not now? Once they are skirts, it'll just be taking an inch off each side now and then. Luckily the construction of the dress currently allows to literally just sew in an inch further and cut off excess. May as well benefit now.

BreakingSad · 22/05/2018 11:23

Lego sorry you're having a tough time, you know where we are, when you feel in the right place Thanks

Honey I've never heard of Lindy bop, lovely dresses. No advice on the sewing, as a year of owning a sewing machine everything I've attempted is a disaster Grin

AnotherOtter well done on the 20 minuets run, after that run my head finally caught up, that actually I can do this. Keep going

Kiki pre changes I was an emotional eater, I cook a lot from scratch, but that wasn't the problem, it was the chocolate, biscuits etc I ate in between. I use MFP and have a Fitbit.*

B1rd* hope you're feeling better after your insect bite.

KOKO everyone

Cagliostro · 22/05/2018 12:49

Hi... mind if I join you? I’ve seen you guys recommended on a couple of other threads, and I have actually read the first thread a while back, but being pregnant at the time didn’t join in. You guys are seriously amazing!

Disclaimer - I feel a bit of a fraud in a way, as I no longer have 100lb to lose. But I did, at the start of 2017, when I weighed pretty much spot on 20st. I made one small change, which was to cut right back on cola type drinks, so I went from buying some every time I went in a shop, to only having them when I was in a pub/restaurant (I much prefer them on tap anyway). I just can’t do cold turkey at all (I’m autistic and the all or nothing thing is a bad mindset for me). Anyway, by the time I fell pregnant and got weighed in April 2017 I was almost 2 stone down.

I continued losing weight in pregnancy but was still diagnosed with gestational diabetes (I had this undiagnosed with DC2, he was nearly 12lb at birth and quite poorly). I followed low (not no) carb high fat and avoided medication, perfectly healthy baby, and by the end of 2017 I was 4 stone lighter than beginning and all my pre pregnancy clothes were too big. Yay!

However I have stalled massively since then. I massively crave sugar when tired and my lovely DC3 is not terribly helpful in the sleep department :o amazingly I mostly maintained since her birth in October, despite having no control over my eating, but recently put on 3lb again and was told by an endocrinologist that my hbA1c is pushing prediabetic levels. So it’s time to get serious. I have a follow up appt in August and oh how I would love to lose more before then!

I have chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia and POTS so exercise has been difficult for years, but pregnancy hormones worked in my favour and I’m managing much more walking and am now upgrading from my postnatal workout DVD to doing YouTube stuff (fitness blender is fab). Still have to be careful though and my knees and wrists are crazy weak.

I’m off out now but will catch up with the threads later, and in the meantime my stats are:
Weight 15st13lb
Body fat 45%
HbA1c 39

I’m not following any plans really, just trying to increase activity and be more mindful, making really small changes.

Keep reducing carbs, not dramatically but in a way that’s sustainable for me
Drink pretty much only water (this is not too tough as I love it but I had started to slip and buy the odd bottle of Dr Pepper etc)
Walk whenever possible
Healthier breakfasts (porridge or eggs) as cereal just sets me up with sugar cravings
Not eating after dinner
Short workouts as close to daily as I can

Right, I need to go out, once baby has finished feeding! So I will catch up with the threads later.

I hope you all don’t mind my epic waffle and that I can come and join you Thanks

honeysucklejasmine · 22/05/2018 13:07

Wow Cagliostro, how well you've done! That's incredible! Welcome, welcome! I've also got an October baby, and am just a few pounds heavier than you. As you've reached a plateau, do you think it's worth switching to a specific weight loss method? It sounds like your body has got used to the current regime so time for a change of government, as it were.

For me, I found it helpful to choose a plan which directly challenges why I am overweight - overeating, therefore, calorie counting. The "unlimited" nature of lots of diet programs really wouldn't help me long term. I'm quite restricted, diet wise, too, so a lot of plans I wouldn't be able to follow.

Breaking I love Lindy Bop! Really good value too, the dresses are decent quality and a great price.
