Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus... - Part 4

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 13/03/2018 21:12

Hello, welcome to the fourth instalment of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus …’ thread Smile

If you want to read them (but by no means feel obliged!), the previous threads are here: Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and I think we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

Collectively, we’ve lost 869 lbs since the start of the first thread, which is pretty amazing! Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

Interesting, waste
I’ll give it a read when I have 5 mins! Thank you

Good lord, my scales manage to hold 323Ib me but knock them off the kitchen counter and they smash to smithereens...what an idiot!

Today was a pub lunch (steak and jacket potato...oops!) and one or two 4 lager shandy’s in the sun in a beer garden and I’m gloriously happy, so as much as I should be being sensible, this is the first time in months I’m really happy so I’m letting it go!

Hope everyone is managing to get out in the sun (if you have any!). It’s amazing how good it makes you feel!

honeysucklejasmine · 06/04/2018 17:17

Afternoon all.

Bad luck on the scales Lego! Will you replace straight away or take a break from regular weigh ins?

My scales seem absolutely stuck. 16.13 3/4lbs. For almost two weeks now. The urge to rip the coil out is still strong. It's playing havoc with me. I have booked an appointment for first week of May for the 6 week review, but if the scales don't start going down soon I am moving the appointment forward.

Depressingly, my previous NSV of fitting in some trousers that were too small is no more. A session with the tumble dryer and they are once again too small. 😫

Nobeachbody · 06/04/2018 18:03

So it's nearly 6pm on a Friday night, and this is getting to the danger zone time for me. I am GAGGING for a glass of wine, but worried that if I have one, that will lead to two, and then before I know it I'll have guzzled the entire bottle and i then I will end up scouring the house like an out of control swarm of locusts seeking out contraband Easter eggs and chocolate which i KNOW for sure is hidden away in my kids' bedrooms.........
Alternatively I could have a cup of tea. Which is not appealing in the slightest. I find the urge for wine greater than the craving for sweet stuff, though once I've had a few glasses all bets are off and I'll stuff myself. Arggggggghhhh!!!

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 06/04/2018 18:35

Honey already a set winging their way from amazon!

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 06/04/2018 19:32

I'm on decaf tea nobeach!

Bit of a mad week, but have stayed on track. Leek and potato soup with added spring greens on the hob just now (for tomorrow...yesterday's soup always tastes better!) Will be back in tomorrow to weigh in.

Having weird bursts of energy at the moment - think it comes from being quite wired at new job. Energy attracts more energy maybe? Anyway, whatever it is, I've started a mass declutter of the house...gonna need more bin bags Grin

Happy weekend all!

honeysucklejasmine · 06/04/2018 20:03

tractors I was going to make leek and potato soup tonight too. What's your recipe? I'm still in basic level of leeks, potato and stock. 😂

honeysucklejasmine · 06/04/2018 20:05

Also I am bloody evangelical about pearl barley. Swapped it in for rice in my risotto tonight. Rice was about 570 cals worth. Same amount of pearl barley... 190 cals.

I had a huge bowl of red wine and mushroom risotto with leftover gammon chopped in and half a head of brocolli for under 400 cals.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 06/04/2018 21:04

That is pretty much my recipe honey - I'm also a pearl barley fan, it featured a lot in my childhood (and therefore recipes that I've inherited). So cheap too, it really is great.

For my soup, I finely chop up 2-3 leeks and 3-4 diced potatoes (I leave the skins on, as they are tastier that way - but can look a little sludge-y in colour!) and saute with a few sprays of olive oil in a saucepan. Then add in 1l chicken stock, 100g of pearl barley (or lentils, I suppose), and a tablespoon of parsley and chives, and leave to do its thing on the hob for a bit.

As you might have guessed, I'm not a purist (hence the barley/lentils) and continue this by adding peas or spring greens towards the end of the cooking process, and a few slugs of water if I've forgotten to check it and it has reduced too far Blush. I also don't puree mine, but you could if you wanted to. If you use floury type potatoes, it is more 'traditional' but any old spud will do. If I'm feeling flash, I'll swoosh a little bit of creme fraiche when serving, but generally don't bother Grin.

B1rdonawire · 06/04/2018 21:06

I like pearl barley in stews but had never thought of using it in risotto - will give that a try!

I have the munchies and ZERO allowance left to eat today. Could need to be quite an early night...attempting to distract myself with knitting. Failing Grin

honeysucklejasmine · 06/04/2018 22:35

Thanks tractors. I ran out of time tonight so will be cooking tomorrow instead. I prefer my potato containing soups to be puréed as chunks are hard to eat whilst usually simultaneously feeding a wriggly baby and reassuring the toddler that it's ok if one of her crisps is broken. 🙄

Need to pack a picnic for tomorrow. Think I might go for a salad, easier to deal with. I hate picnics. Really hate them. But we're meeting friends at a venue with a v expensive cafe and I'll be damned if I'm paying £10 for jacket potato and beans.

Start 278

Last week 247
Week 7 Exercise Week 4 Calorie counting
This week 238

Week loss -9
Total loss -40

Goal 146
Left 92
Start 132

Just a quick one as I’ve got 101 things to do before I start work at 9.

Really pleased about this week as it’s been hard going to fit in the exercise. Although I don’t think I really lost 9 pounds in a week. I think last week when I weighed myself AF was just arriving so some of that was weight from bloating.

Hope everyone has a good weigh in.

PostNotInHaste · 07/04/2018 07:25

Goodness Fezzes, that’s going some in 7 weeks, well done !

Some lovely sounding food here, must get the pearl barley out.

2lb gain for me this week, well it’s the two weeks before that really. This week was maintenance. Absolutely fine with it and knew it was coming as had continued logging so put on exactly what I was expecting.

Total loss 96lb
To lose 14lb

fezzesarecool · 07/04/2018 07:42

I’m literally exercising my butt off! Although I’m sure to start slowing soon and then the platore (spelling?!) will hit me hard.

Great job with maintenance.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 07/04/2018 09:17

Wow fezzes, that's amazing!

And Post - you're down to the last stone, you absolute legend!

I'm down 0.5lb, which is about right for this week. My burst of energy is continuing, so a busy day today, and lots of good choices. It's so therapeutic having a mass declutter, the extra space makes me so happy. It's not that we're much of a hoarding family, but when money is a bit tight you do try to get as much value out of things as possible. I've come to realisation that 3 bottles of shampoo with 1 cm left in the bottom have been in the bathroom for quite some time, and will never be used - and that money was spent some time ago, so I'm not gaining anything by keeping them. I know we had a chat on here about the difficulties some of us have about leaving food on our plates, and that throwing out leftovers was a waste of money - I suppose it is a similar principle. The money was spent, there's no gaining that back, and pursuing it to the bitter end is a bit of a diminishing return.

Or something like that. Blush That was quite a self-indulgent waffle, but hopefully someone gets what I mean!

Lost this week: 0.5 lb
To lose: 124 lbs
Lost to date: 45 lbs
Left to lose: 79 lbs

Have a good Saturday, and if you're lurking and reading this, come join in Wink

Some truly amaxing losses tbis week. Welm done everyone.
I love swimming. I wouldn't say it is a great exercise for weight loss as I feel starving afterwards. It is great for fitness though. At my last hi mum fit test I did much better than expected. The instructor thought it was down to rmthe swimming.
So just spent a few nights away culminating in putting away a bag of it oreo eggs.
Weighed myself before I went so gained a pound during beak but still down 1 pound on the week so not too bad

moonlight1705 · 07/04/2018 10:32

STS this week which was pretty good considering how much chocolate I consumed.

Well done on everyone's amazing losses.....I'm a bit jealous to be honest but just need to have some will power.

Nobeachbody · 07/04/2018 13:06

Wow, I can't believe how much weight some of you have managed to lose in a weight. Very jealous here. Fezzes i think we need details of what you're actually eating in a week to lose 9lbs!! That is bloody amazing. The only time I've ever lost that much in a week was when I went on a health retreat to Spain where the regime was Draconian - strictly NO alcohol, caffeine, carbohydrates, dairy, meat, sugar, processed foods. It was basically small portions of vegetables, fruit, rice, murky beans. No wonder I lost 9lbs. But I couldn't sustain that at home, and real life. Too much temptation and just too hard.

And LittleBear, over 7lbs in a week, that's also amazing, again what diet are you following? Are you feeling very deprived?

I'm bumbling along trying to stick to around 1600 cals a day, but I've just checked MFP and my average for the past week has been around 1800. So am losing around 1.5lbs a week. However, would love a big whoosh of 4-5lbs to give me a bit of a boost, but worried about how little I'd need to eat. Any advice anyone? Should I do a couple of "fasting" days - ie 500 calories a la 5/2 diet?

honeysucklejasmine · 07/04/2018 16:38

Wow everyone, amazing losses! Well done!

Weigh in tomorrow. I'll be pleased if I've lost anything, still hovering at same weight. Looking at mfp it can only be because of the coil - my average calorie intake hasn't changed, nor my proportion of carbs Vs fat Vs protein. Eugh.

Fingers crossed!

Nobeachbody · 07/04/2018 17:04

honey do you really think your weight loss plateau has been caused by the coil? Slightly alarming to read as I had one fitted about 2 weeks ago to deal with v heavy bleeding. Sorry TMI. Didn't realise there were implications for weight loss, arghhhhh! Will be so pissed off if that's the case, though I guess like all these things it's different for everyone.

LittleBearinaBigWorld · 07/04/2018 17:46

Nobeach I'm just calorie counting! I'd be absolutely useless trying to figure out my protein/carb intake and all that, but would look into doing that if my weight loss slowed down. I'd exercised a huge amount the day before I weighed last week so I reckon I retained some water, which would have contributed to losing a bit more this week I think!

I'm down into the 17st category! I'm so chuffed, I mean, I know it's still overweight but it's a massive boost, I can see that I'm making progress and getting there.

Went for a day out today and ended up having lunch in a cafe type place, I opted for an omlette (unheard of) and didn't even finish it (even more unheard of)!

Honey So sorry to hear about everything you're going through, it must be a right pain.

I've rediscovered quinoa this week, had it for most of my lunches. It's really filling! What's this pearl barley that's been mentioned?

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 07/04/2018 18:08

Evening all, do you think I could join your group? I want to lose about 70, so not your 100 mark but so many of these groups want to lose the odd stone (if only)
Any rules I need to know? Going to join SW next week but I presume most of you are following healthy eating/tracking with exercise. Did low carb with great success a couple of years ago but it’s just not sustainable for me long term. Cheers

Stats are
Current: 215
Goal: 140

honeysucklejasmine · 07/04/2018 19:18

nobeach I do. On the NHS website it says Mirena has no impact on weight. On the product leaflet it says weight gain is a common (1 in 10) side effect. It was almost instant. I'd been losing 3lbs a week consistently. Weigh in on Sunday morning. Had it fitted Monday and that week lost 2lb. Following week was a huge struggle not to gain anything, managed a maintain. This week is looking like it might maybe manage a 1lb loss. I have my count set at "lose 1.5lb a week" and I'm breastfeeding, and last week I was 1140 cals under my weekly target (so I don't actually eat to 0 cals every day) so it was baffling why I'd struggled not to gain.

I also got huge PMT which I have never had before and felt horribly bloated. Unfortunately scales didn't go down when bloating did.

I have endometriosis and adenomyosis so I'm used to periods messing with my life, but really!

Hi natural! No rules. Just do what works for you. Stay accountable but don't sabotage yourself or fall in to a shame binge if you have a bad day. Positive thinking, one day at a time.

B1rdonawire · 07/04/2018 19:54

Hello Naturalblonde I'm doing SW not that you would know it from the Easter egg massacre so will be hopefully following the same structure as you!

Today can best be summed up as: did not go to plan!
Plan: let's get DC outdoors tire them out and I'll get some exercise
Reality: we did have fun in the woods and mud for a few hours but I spent a lot of time helping them on forest swings etc so don't think I moved much...we did build a great den though Grin

Plan: if I can't eat much bread, I should bake really yummy bread so each slice is tasty
Reality: ten minutes before DC bedtime elderly bread maker goes bang and the fuse trips. Scraped out dough, left it in loaf tin covered with tea towel, sorted fuse, did bedtime, "bread" now in cooker but who knows what's going to come out. (Bread maker is on the front doorstep, to have a think about its behaviour)

Aside from the doomed bread, am looking forward to baked potato and roasted veggies with salmon for supper. What's everyone else having?
