Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus... - Part 4

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 13/03/2018 21:12

Hello, welcome to the fourth instalment of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus …’ thread Smile

If you want to read them (but by no means feel obliged!), the previous threads are here: Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and I think we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

Collectively, we’ve lost 869 lbs since the start of the first thread, which is pretty amazing! Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

Honeysuckle use a previous one, it’s one less thing to worry about. Don’t see it as lazy, more as efficient use of time !

LittleBearinaBigWorld · 02/04/2018 21:44

Lego That's horrible! I'm so sorry that happened to you.

Honey I would definitely reuse one!

New job starts tomorrow, lunch all packed!

honeysucklejasmine · 02/04/2018 21:55

I compromised and did a mishmash of two weeks meal plans, took out some meals that weren't worth the calories, ammended some others. All done, delivery coming Wednesday night. Have a gammon joint in fridge to roast tomorrow for two dinners and sandwiches. Perfecto.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 02/04/2018 23:09

I think the worst thing about my reaction to the abuse is that I reacted...I’ve had it more times then I can count and it doesn’t phase me anymore, which I guess it should but it doesn’t! I just so didn’t need to spend all this time gorging myself! Ah well! What’s done is done!

And as of this evening I am 322.6Ib which considering the food I’ve eaten the last few weeks, I’m not 100% convinced is right but I’ve tried it in 3 spots in a small part of the living room and they all say the same (we have odd floors which means that’s the only part of the house they will reliably work on!)

So I’m taking that as it’s word and will weigh again next Sunday night (which I’m sure isn’t the best time to weigh but it’s the one time I’m alone and as I’m currently living with Parents and DB and although they are so supportive I just need to begin this without their input!) in the same spot and I’m aiming for 318.6Ib

I have a doctors appointment on the 27th and I hope to be at 310Ib as a small goal.

Fingers crossed!

Good luck everyone and as ever, thank you for your support

Well done on the scales Lego. You sound very focused for a good week.

Grandparents unexpectedly took DC to cinema this morning so I've made a new recipe for lunch (lemon and tarragon chicken casserole). I have also done 15 minutes of yoga...my first ever attempt. To no-one's shock, I am not at all bendy thank heaven there were no witnesses

Nobeachbody · 03/04/2018 12:45

Morning everyone, hope we can all put the chocolate nightmare that is Easter behind us and focus on our goals!

I've just made a huge vat of my favourite coleslaw; raw beetroot, carrot, radishes, red onion and apple. Just grate it all in a big bowl add a tablespoon of good olive oil, as much balsamic vinegar or lemon juice as you like, salt and pepper and it's delicious, and low calorie - as well as being very good for you! I had it with a baked potato and some cheddar cheese for lunch yesterday, and it was gorgeous and really filling. Am having the same today! It also makes a great accompaniment to a roast chicken breast or cold meat.

Another favourite easy recipe I recommend which I got from Louise Parker's Lean for Life book, (if you like lentils and goat's cheese) is half a pack of warmed Beluga lentils , which you can buy in packets from Waitrose, 12 cherry tomatoes, half a red pepper, half a red chilli, sliced radishes. Mix together, add a little olive oil and as much balsamic as you like, top with 50g of goats cheese. Really tasty and filling. You can add some broccoli florets as well if you like, though I prefer the radishes.

Oooh recipe time Nobeach - my favourite is couscous salad. Chop up toms, cucumber, red onion into tiny pieces, add them to couscous and then add in chopped fresh mint, coriander and parsley. Add chopped mango and chicken pieces
Finally add a mixture of crushed garlic, lemon juice (plenty of it) and olive oil for dressing.

I am going to try that coleslaw at some point soon.

Wasteofspace1 · 03/04/2018 15:54

moonlight that sounds delicious, particularly with the mango and chicken. I love this kind of food, lots of lovely crunchy healthy salads, and when I'm battling with urges to eat junk try to focus on all the healthy stuff that I am lucky enough to actively enjoy. Am definitely going to try that recipe out. Kids might even like it too with the mango! Though they will probably draw the line at parsley.......

Would be interested to hear anyone elses favourite go-to diet/healthy recipes/ meals.

honeysucklejasmine · 03/04/2018 16:03

I know it's not very seasonal but I am really in to soup at the moment. Currently on the go is root veg and red lentil. I think next up will be spinach.

I am also making various slaws with the million white cabbages I seem to have. Yesterday I used DD's rejected satay noodles in a salad with some pickled red cabbage over the top which was nice too.

Nobeachbody · 03/04/2018 16:35

Agree honeysuckle home made soup makes a great filling lunch. And a slice of toast and a bit of grated cheese makes it even better! Smile

LittleBearinaBigWorld · 03/04/2018 18:38

I like to make my own salsa salad thing and have it with quinoa.

Finely chop up tomatoes and red onion, then add chopped coriander, the zest of one lime and it's juice, some chilli flakes if you like, and it's ready! Even better if you leave it a little while to mix.

Nobeachbody · 03/04/2018 19:05

I love home made salsa too! LittleBear you have reminded me I must make some soon. Lovely with chilli and guacomole and sour cream.........

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 03/04/2018 19:49

Popping in briefly to lend support to Lego and to drool over some of these recipe suggestions!

I've had a difficult day at new job, which has totally thrown me Confused - there appears to be lots of things I should just "know", but without my crystal ball, that's just not possible Hmm. New day tomorrow...

Attempting to relax by picking up crochet again - I can only do granny squares, and not very well, but it is strangely soothing!

Thank you tractors , you guys are ace!

Today didn’t quite go to plan, I had a thoroughly shit day at work and gave into GBK at lunch...not my finest moment but I’ve packed my lunch already for tomorrow so there’s a start!

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 04/04/2018 19:55

Hope you've had a better day today Lego?

How are the rest of you getting on? I'm freezing - it has rained continuously for 24 hours, and then there was snow this afternoon, to add to the slushy damp! Spectacular sunset going on just now though - the sky is glowing Smile

Shattered! Busy morning trying to squeeze in a whole day of work into 4 hrs, then child-wrangling while trying to support mum through oncology outpatients. My cold is hitting the box-of-tissues-per-hour stage - please say this means tomorrow will be better!

Food has not been perfect today but could have been a lot worse - the only healthy thing I could buy to eat at the hospital was a bottle of water. So that's what I had. Have self-soothed with a chunk of leftover Easter egg tonight though Wink

honeysucklejasmine · 04/04/2018 22:34

Eugh. I had a chest snack about an hour ago and I already regret it.

I also had to grab a meal from the freezer and whilst it wasn't terrible, it wasn't as low cal as I would have liked.

Oh well. Tomorrow is a new day.

honeysucklejasmine · 04/04/2018 23:14

Cheat snack. Not chest.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 04/04/2018 23:25

Thank you Tractors Smile

Today was as crap as yesterday but I tried to be better with food, there was definitely a salad somewhere Wink but I ended up picking throughout the day and grabbing what I could when I could but I’ve learnt that taking lunch to work (and not leaving half in the fridge by mistake...) is definitely helpful! I’m not sure I’ll meet my Sunday goal but am determined to meet my Doctors appointment goal!

Thank you all, as ever, for your support

LittleBearinaBigWorld · 05/04/2018 08:09

Well I'm absolutely loving my new job, it's worlds apart from my previous experience! I get to work from home today because there's no power in the office, it's like I'm off all over again!

I'm definitely going to get a walk in at lunch today, in the office now lunch is an 'eat at your desk' kind of affair, which I don't mind but isn't ideal for me to meet my step goals!

Benn having quinoa with chicken and salsa for lunch this week, I've really been enjoying it.

I have eaten my only Easter egg in little bits throughout the week rather than all at once, which is an achievement because normally I would have a lot more than one, and I certainly wouldn't have broken them up and spread them out! I still have a little Lindt bunny which I'm saving.

Hope everyone is okay!

Cultofpersonality · 05/04/2018 11:39

Hope everyone is having a good week!

No loss this week. But no gain either so it’s okay I suppose.

I was wondering if anyone has had any success with swimming for weight loss? I’m a fairly confident swimmer. Not very fast, I can do a length of a standard pool in around a minute- I think it’s 25m?- on a good day. As the weather is picking up, I’ve been thinking of going again. I think I can commit to around 3/4 30 min swims per week, would also include around an hour to walk there and back too.
Would love to know if anyone has had any success with it!

Sorry I’m not around much in the thread this week either, and I will reply to people once the crazy has died down!

wasteofspace1 · 06/04/2018 10:40

Hi everyone, hope you are all having a good week. I'm down 1.5lbs, hurrah. God knows how that happened as I've been scoffing chocolate and wine. Though to be honest, I'm still religiously recording it all on MFP, and nearly always under 2,000 calories which is enough for me to lose weight, albeit slowly.

Cult, don't want to rain on your parade, but think we all know that exercise is a hugely inefficient way of losing weight, and that it's largely down to what you eat. In fact I read once something about how swimming is a particularly rubbish means of exercise if your goal is weight loss, something to do with heat loss and being in the water. MIght have been utter bollocks but will try and dig it out.

Of course, exercise is brilliant for your physical - and mental - health, and swimming is always lauded as being particularly good as it's a full body work out. And if swimming makes you feel good, you are more likely to feel positive and good about yourself and make healthy food choices. So all in all a virtuous circle, just think you need to be realistic about how effective swimming will be in helping you to lose weight without the emphasis being on your diet.

wasteofspace1 · 06/04/2018 10:43

Hmmm mixed messages here, but interesting nonetheless on the impact of swimming on weight loss
