Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017-18 - Part 3

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 27/09/2017 19:49

Hello, welcome to the third instalment of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017’ thread. As we’re getting closer to the end of 2017, I’ve added 2018 for good measure Smile

If you want to read them (but by no means feel obliged!), the first and second threads are here: Part 1 and here: Part 2

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and I think we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way Wink Collectively, we’ve lost 612 lbs since the start of the first thread, which is pretty amazing Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread, I will make one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals.

And with that, I'm off to spam our old thread to fill it up Grin

Done really well so far today but eventually succummed to a chocolate bar in the fridge. Only ate half so that is progress.
With exercise my allowance is looking like 1500 so will be well within even with dinner
I think for me it is mindset.
If I felt I had broken the diet I would go off track. Yet this time I realise there is room for the odd treat as this has to be a long term eating plan.
Thank you for helping me get this. I think i the past I have been to restrictive in my diets.

AnotherOtter · 01/03/2018 17:33

Chesty, I hope the psychology work with the dietician is helpful. But worrying that you hadn't had either breakfast or lunch. That would be a red flag with me: too much restriction-> too hungry -> binge. Some people can handle more restriction than others but it pushes everyone towards binging. And not good in its own right either as the body needs basic nutrition. I hope BiscuitGate gets resolved soon and you get freedom from those thoughts Thanks Also hope ChestyDog makes a full recovery and the vet enjoys their skiiing trip off the back of you.

Welcome Tea. Sorry to hear about your chronic health problems. Your plan sounds very sensible and doable. Hospitals really don't have a great selection of food.

Honey, great that you are sounding so pragmatic. I think when it's a long term project you have to be flexible and really give up any tendency to perfectionism. Sounds like MFP is really working well for you Smile

Well done, Post, on your weight milestone. That is awful that your periods are so incapacitating. Fingers crossed the embolisation appointment comes through quickly.

Raven, I can really empathise with your reasons for wanting to lose weight. I am three quarters there and I have to say it is revolutionary the change it makes in your life. Even just cleaning the bastard bathroom is so much easier! So many little things like that.

Notanurse, so pleased for you that your trip went so well!

Welcome to all the newbies Smile It's the first of the month and I measure myself then as well as weigh which I really recommend. It's something else to see your progress and can be helpful when the scales aren't moving and also helps to keep the number on the scales in perspective. You can track waist and hips in MyFitnessPal though I also measure the Boobs of Doom too. Have a Non-Scale Victory: lost 11" off my waist since last summer when I started measuring and I had lost two stone by then. Previously mentioned bust has only gone down by 4", good god. Another NSV is that I wore my summer coat, then my winter coat and then my long wool coat over that and it was still miles too big. I looked a state but I was warm in the snow!

AnotherOtter · 01/03/2018 17:38

Moonandstars (do you know MotherofDinosaurs Wink) that is the same revelation that I had about being too restrictive. It's hard though as there is a lot of messaging to eat as little as possible while 'dieting'. Think everyone has to find their own balance between creating a calorie deficit and getting enough nutrition and not binging.

moonlight1705 · 01/03/2018 18:20

I agree about the getting the balance right but not sure I've found it.

I'm doing MFP and find that I stick nicely within the 1500 calories for meals plus a couple of squares of dark chocolate. Unfortunately I then cheat and have a massive chocolate bar or a McDs but don't record it as I'm ashamed that I've succumb to temptation.

Moonandstars84 · 01/03/2018 19:53

I learnt the hard way that vlcd don't work long term. I thought ta
moonlight I have to fight that urge. There were two small bars in there and it is my favourite chocolate. In the past I would have eaten both bars. Thank though what's the point and tucked into crisps.
I hope I can get over that long term.

Moonandstars84 · 01/03/2018 19:53

Absolutely another

honeysucklejasmine · 01/03/2018 20:38

Well. No wonder I've been struggling recently. Despite having a 5 month old almost permanently attached to my boob, my period is back. I have endometriosis so this is Not Good. I am consoling myself with an Oatly hot chocolate and a small bag of haribo (17g!) with my remaining calories.

Thanks to whoever it was who posted the link to Jack Monroe's website (AnotherOtter?). I had forgotten about it but have how used it to plan next weeks meals. Low cost and mostly low calorie. Woo!

Hmm. Chocolate Oatly not bad. I could get used to this. 55 cal per 100ml.

honeysucklejasmine · 01/03/2018 20:40

It was indeed AnotherOtter ! Thank you!

honeysucklejasmine · 03/03/2018 11:01

It's quiet in here. tumbleweed Is anyone snowed in?

Moonandstars84 · 03/03/2018 12:05

Schools were shut yesterday so had all the kids home. Much harder to do my 10 thousand steps in this weather.
Even worse I am going out for dinner later in a restaurant not known for low calorie foods. Starters can be 1000 calories alone. Probably going to skip starter and have steak with salad and potatoes.
Had a sneaky weigh in and 2 pounds down in a about 3 or maybe 4 days.

moonlight1705 · 03/03/2018 12:23

Snowed in a little i.e. we cannot be bothered to go out. I worked from home yesterday and ended up making banana bread Blush

honeysucklejasmine · 03/03/2018 12:29

moon good luck at the restaurant. Try to find a balance between healthy eating and not resenting your diet.

Similarly, moonlight, there's nothing wrong with banana bread, just don't eat the whole loaf at once! 😂

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 03/03/2018 14:14

Hope everyone is a little less frozen than they have been over the last few days! It's been a little stressful around here, but things are getting back to normal now.

I'm down 0.5lbs - not bad considering our diet over the last few days has mostly been restricted to pantry carbs and frozen veg Blush

Local shops are starting to get deliveries, so hoping to introduce some fresh food soon! I'm craving cucumber and lettuce at the moment - words I never thought I'd say Grin. The local one has milk, but has run out of red and white wine, much to the amusement of many round here!

Lost this week: 0.5 lb
To lose: 124 lbs
Lost to date: 41 lbs
Left to lose: 83 lbs

OP posts:
honeysucklejasmine · 03/03/2018 16:51

We were lucky in that we had a good delivery booked for Tuesday so plenty of food in. It's done me good not "popping to shops" too as I am making better use of the store cupboard too.

B1rdonawire · 03/03/2018 17:25

The snowy walk to the supermarket, plus a good hour sledging with DD, and the walk back have given me achey legs! More because I am epicly unfit than because it was a workout, but still...

Fighting the very strong urge for carbs and biscuits, more or less winning so far but drinking gallons of coffee as a distraction!

ChestyNut · 03/03/2018 17:29

otter your totally right about the breakfast and lunch thing. It’s hard to break the binge starve habits but I’m working on it.
ChestyDog went to the vets yesterday for his eye.....vet running 45 mins behind, 3 min consultation and £70 poorer Sad

MotherofDinosaurs · 03/03/2018 17:37

I think I've had a little breakthrough! Been on it for 3 weeks, then last night we had a friend to dinner. I cooked a bolognese with 5% mince, made homemade garlic bread. Then he turned up with the most fuck off spectacular decadent milk and whites chocolate mirror glazed opera cake. He was so kind and thrilled to present it I had to eat some. And a bit more.
But here's the thing: when I woke up this morning, I didn't think 'oh that's it I ruined the diet I might as well have the rest of the weekend off' I forgave myself and got straight back on it!! I think it's thanks to some of the things I've read on this thread so thank you all.

RavenLG · 03/03/2018 21:49

Otter thank you for that. Great news on your weight loss, and very pleased to hear that the little things like you say make a huge difference it's definitely something to strive for. I've been really on the ball all week, despite wanting all the stodgy comfort food because of the weather. Excited to weigh in on Monday (I did a sneaky weigh this morning and if it rings true monday I'll be bloody amazed!)

honeysucklejasmine · 03/03/2018 22:00

We had a hairy dieters turkey burger recipe today - lovely and moist! It was:
100g sauteed leek
150g finely grated courgette
500g turkey mince
Zest of half a lemon

Baked in an oven, served with homemade chips and salad. Felt very decadent. Didn't have a bread roll (saved the calories for chips!), and served with salsa which was nice.

Tomorrow we're having veg curry and I am super excited.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 03/03/2018 22:57

B1rd - I'm treating the snow as a workout too - my calves are definitely feeling the burn! (no noticeable difference in them, although I'm checking every few minutes, just in case...)

Chesty - poor ChestyDog! They are such a worry. TractorCat largely avoids the vet, but only because the grumpy sod doesn't really move from the sofa and only really under threat of starvation or bladder explosion Shock much like myself really

MotherofDragons - good for you! That's a really good hurdle to leap, because it's the easiest one in the world to let happen. 'Oh dear, I had one bacon roll - must eat this entire hog roast, and everything else' Getting back on it asap is everything Smile - as I've learnt to my cost!

Raven Fingers crossed for Monday!

honey, that sounds fab - I have most of that already (and hopefully the rest tomorrow). I've heard such good things about the hairy dieters book, I must get a copy. The local library does a roaring trade in cookbooks, and a very cheap photocopy service, so I must make better use of it. I try to have recipes on my phone whilst cooking, but it never really works for me, I need paper to write on!

2 1/4 lbs off this week! Shock

Lost: 25lb
Still to lose: 77lb

moonlight1705 · 04/03/2018 09:24

Finally I've stopped staying the same Grin

Loss this week: 2 1/2 lb off
Total loss: Cannot remember so may start again on this!
Loss to go: 128lb

ChestyNut · 04/03/2018 09:52

This week- + 1lb 8oz
Lost- 43lb 1/2
To lose- 56lb 8oz

Haven’t eaten anything different this week so not sure where the gain is from. Think it’s ovulation and my knees and back hurts so hoping it’s hormonal water weight?

Sucks tho Sad

MotherofDinosaurs · 04/03/2018 11:08

Just weighing in:
Total to lose: 105lb
Lost this week: 2lb
Total lost: 44lb
Left to lose: 61lb (miscalculated on my first post)

So 2lb off despite the opera-cake-debacle. I'm happy with that.

KOKO everyone!

MotherofDinosaurs · 04/03/2018 11:10

Chesty Flowers it sucks - time of the month really interferes with my losses, I put it down to water retention. Hang on for a big loss next week.
