Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017-18 - Part 3

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 27/09/2017 19:49

Hello, welcome to the third instalment of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017’ thread. As we’re getting closer to the end of 2017, I’ve added 2018 for good measure Smile

If you want to read them (but by no means feel obliged!), the first and second threads are here: Part 1 and here: Part 2

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and I think we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way Wink Collectively, we’ve lost 612 lbs since the start of the first thread, which is pretty amazing Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread, I will make one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals.

And with that, I'm off to spam our old thread to fill it up Grin

Thank you Flowers

My plan of action is currently wing it!

Basically doing nothing is not helping how I thought it would, my anxiety is through the roof and now I have obesity related illnesses to worry me so I may as well try and do something

I’ve blown the dust off the Fitbit and have reopened MFP and hopefully with a bit of luck I can get back into the swing of things

Re reading old messages and you’re all doing amazingly well!

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 21/02/2018 20:37

This week has been a tough one - not doing too well, have fallen back on carb heavy meals. Frustrating. And have had a proper blub at the Tom Kerridge show just now Blush. Think I'm going to take myself off to bed!

Anyway... grump over. Tomorrow is another day!

Otter it's not arrived yet. But I'm sharpening my pencils in anticipation. I think I'm going to have to do a broken X axis... I want my highest weight to be on there to remind me, but that was in 2016 and it'd be a hell of a small scale to just get two data points (i.e. that one and my start point this year) on. So axis squiggle it is! Also don't know whether to put my whole 100lb range on y axis or just extend the graph with extra sheets... Decisions decisions.

moonlight1705 · 22/02/2018 10:47

Another It's Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall 'Much More Veg' and looks delicious.

Tractors sorry to hear you are having a tough week. Carbs are my go-to food of choice when stressed / angry / happy / any emotion really. Hope today is going better for you.

honey I love charts.....very exciting to get the stationary out. I would personally extend the graph and put it somewhere obvious so you can see how well you have done!

Lego welcome back! I've also started again on MFP, this time aiming for 1500 calories a day although I completely missed that as we went out for sushi and cocktails on Monday night which apparently isn't very diet friendly Blush

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 22/02/2018 21:46

So after my self-indulgent sulk of last night, I've only gone and got a bloody job offer! So I'm a happy Tractors and only in mild panic about, a) telling current job to suck it, and b) having to be 'professional' at proposed new office Shock. Super happy and it's flexible enough to work around school drop offs/pick ups for the DCs. I'm very smiley at the moment Grin but it does mean I might have to visit Paperchase again to treat myself Blush.

Hope everyone else is KOKO-ing - February has flown in, it is March next week!

BreakingSad · 23/02/2018 08:19

That's fantastic news Notractors well done, a Paperchase visit is well deserved.

moonlight1705 · 23/02/2018 08:38

Woooooo well done Tractors amazing news!!!

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 23/02/2018 16:14

Well done tractors! Fab news!

AnotherOtter · 23/02/2018 16:57

Congratulations Tractors! That is brilliant news. When do you start? I'm late to this but what made you upset at the Tom Kerridge programme?

The fitbit and MFP combo is pretty popular on here, Lego, and what I've gone for too. Seems to work for a lot of people but don't let that stop you experimenting to find what works best for you. You don't have to have a perfect plan right at the start. You can learn as you go.

Planning is part of the fun, Honey Grin

In case you folk didn't see it in the news, there was a year long, over 600 participant US weight loss trial published in a very prestigious journal this week about the best way to lose weight. The New York Times did a good article on it https://mobile.nytimes.com/2018/02/20/well/eat/counting-calories-weight-loss-diet-dieting-low-carb-low-fat.html The final paragraph is a good summary: "'I think one place we go wrong is telling people to figure out how many calories they eat and then telling them to cut back on 500 calories, which makes them miserable,' he [Dr Gardner, lead researcher] said. 'We really need to focus on that foundational diet, which is more vegetables, more whole foods, less added sugar and less refined grains.'" Interesting stuff! Lot of folks defending calorie counting on social media but looks like more research is needed especially on how to keep weight off long term.

ChestyNutsRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 23/02/2018 19:24

Well done Tractor Wine

Oooh what was the deleted post?

Ive has a few days off this week and finding it hard, feel like I’ve eaten loads of carbs.
Went for a day out today to a local shopping outlet. I thought oooh I’ll have a treat and have a biscuit from a cafe.....I bought it but then the internal war started Sad Shall I eat it? No you shouldn’t. But I want it, it’s only one? So the biscuit is dat on the kitchen work top.

Surely a biscuit shouldn’t cause so much angst. I just think I’ve got the hang of it and then along comes BiscuitGate Hmm

PostNotInHaste · 23/02/2018 20:25

Excellent news Tractors, really pleased for you!

Chesty it is a biscuit, don’t give it more significance than it has! Do understand though and when we’re undoing years of disordered eating there are always going to be these blips. Think the important thing as we’re all learning is accept them for what they are, temporary moments and KOKO.

Will catch up properly tomorrow.

honeysucklejasmine · 23/02/2018 22:10

Congratulations Tractors!

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 24/02/2018 15:25

Thank you all Grin

Will weigh in tomorrow - not feeling too hopeful, but feeling in a much better place now and more determined than previously. Still to decide a start date but new job is closer to a gym that is affordable, so I’m going to be able to go after work.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend Smile

Quick weigh in - another lb off, 78 ish to go.

Was at a hen do last night, with a set menu. Because of dairy issues I didn't get a choice as to which dishes I could eat so was a bit of a write off. (Ham hock terrine, fish and chips) so pretty pleased that there's some actual loss on the scales rather than a huge gain which usually happens after a "cheat meal".

It's my daughter's birthday party today and I've made a buffet. Created each thing as a meal in MFP so I can quickly log how much I've had and keep an eye on it. The main food is pizza which I won't be eating anyway. Her birthday cake has 4,500 cals in it though, will be cutting a small slice of that! 😂

B1rdonawire · 25/02/2018 08:22

Yikes, sounds like quite a cake! Good luck for the buffet, your planning sounds ace.

I have had a couple of weeks of wobbling (including going on hol which was fab but not restrained...) but have felt I've been much more on it this week - fingers crossed the scales reflect that tomorrow Grin

Well done on the new job Tractors!

ChestyNutsRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 25/02/2018 09:54

Loss- 4oz
Total- 45lbs
To lose- 55lbs

If only it came off as quick as it went on Sad

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 25/02/2018 10:15

Put on 2lbs Blush Annoyed at myself but it's in the past, can't un-eat the food from earlier in the week. Back on the straight and narrow and positive attitude. To quote from earlier in this thread: Fuck being fat!

Lost this week: 0 lb (+2lbs)
To lose: 124 lbs
Lost to date: 40.5 lbs
Left to lose: 83.5 lbs

Veg chilli in the slow cooker - back to mug-measuring, and no gratuitous carbs. I've been neglecting MFP of late, so I'm going to set reminders in my phone to do it each day. Bring it the fuck on!

honey that is such a good idea about MFP-ing the buffet, very impressed with that. Mind boggling about the cake Shock

Chesty - I hear ya! B1rd - fingers crossed for you!

We're off out for a long walk this morning (once I bring myself to move the cat, who is snoozing on my chest) - it's such a glorious day here Smile KOKO y'all.

OP posts:
AnotherOtter · 25/02/2018 10:38

Loss this week: 2.2lbs
Total loss: 79.4lbs
To go: 21.6lbs

Chesty, the deleted post was spam linking to a laughably terrible website. What happened about BiscuitGate? Like Post said, it's really hard to undo years of disordered eating but keep plugging away and you'll get there. At least, that's what I tell myself too. I wonder if this is something you could ask your dietician about perhaps?

That is excellent forward planning with your daughter's party food, Honey. Shocking about the cake but guess that is why they are so delicious: our brains rewarding us for all those calories. Hope you all have a great time.

Good luck with your weigh-in tomorrow, B1. Sorry to hear you've had a bad few weeks Thanks

How was your New York trip, Notanurse? I hope the plane was alright.

You sound very positive, Tractors! You've had a stressful time of it so perhaps cut yourself some slack? It's a glorious day here too - cold but bright sunshine. Not looking forward to the snow next week though.

BreakingSad · 25/02/2018 12:53

Beautiful day here too and had a lovely walk this morning, cold but refreshing.

1 lb down here and finally over the hump, 57 lbs lost and 56 to go.

ChestyNutsRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 25/02/2018 13:33

Thanks otter was it a weight loss site?
I didn’t eat the biscuit, it’s still sat mocking me in the fruit bowl Blush it has become “a thing” so I’m going to chuck it I think.
I just didn’t know if I should eat it Hmm
I’ll def ask dietician this week.

moonlight1705 · 25/02/2018 14:14

Only 1/2lb off for me this week but it has been half term so we've been out quite a bit.

I've got a stinking cold so feeling a little sorry for myself and want to make it better with hot toddies!

honeysucklejasmine · 25/02/2018 20:34

Evening all. Predictably gone over my calories today but I'm happy that I knew I would and I haven't used it as an excuse to go mad. Hopefully the rest of this week can be pretty restrained and I may maintain on the scales rather than gain. Best day to have a blowout I guess!

I'm knackered, so I probably used up a lot of calories running around like a blue arsed fly. Was lovely to see everyone though.

B1rdonawire · 26/02/2018 07:52

Morning everyone - 1.5lbs off this week despite it being blessed hormone visitation week and I had 2 (very careful) work lunches out. One more to the next half-stone off...

Off-scale positives (I was finding all of these I could to try and keep myself on track this week):

  • 9 inches each off my waist, hips and bust since I started
  • no seatbelt issues on recent budget economy flights (and not too bad for hip squash-age either)
  • almost in the next size down of jeans (I can do them up but I wouldn't want to try anything ambitious like sitting down Grin )

Next challenges:

  • blood pressure still needs improvement
  • the next half stone (there are lots but I only look at one at a time)
  • those jeans to be comfy

I have just booked a non-food activity for Mother's Day, which feels like a really positive thing as I would usually choose lunch or afternoon tea. What are your plans for winning this week?

Aph413 · 26/02/2018 12:26

I don't know what made me finally start but I did this week. Weighed on Saturday morning.

Lost this week: 5lbs
To lose: 90lbs (just to get back to a healthy bmi)
Lost to date: 5lbs
Left to lose: 85lbs

I'm not following a diet plan. Just tracking my food on my Samsung health app and actually getting to the gym of an evening. Hopefully this means it'll be sustainable for me because nothing else has been so far

honeysucklejasmine · 26/02/2018 21:42

I had to try really hard not to sabotage myself this evening. Was really tempted to totally blow it and give up. I'm so fucking impatient. I worked out it'll take me about 18 months to reach target at my current rate. Then my brain threw a strop along the lines of "if it'll take that long just don't bother!" and I had to give myself a talking to about instant gratification and how quickly time passes in reality.
