Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017-18 - Part 3

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 27/09/2017 19:49

Hello, welcome to the third instalment of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017’ thread. As we’re getting closer to the end of 2017, I’ve added 2018 for good measure Smile

If you want to read them (but by no means feel obliged!), the first and second threads are here: Part 1 and here: Part 2

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and I think we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way Wink Collectively, we’ve lost 612 lbs since the start of the first thread, which is pretty amazing Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread, I will make one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals.

And with that, I'm off to spam our old thread to fill it up Grin

Sounds like a tough evening but well done for hanging on. I know what you mean about the very long road ahead stretching on and on...but if I don't do this, then in the same time period I'll probably just get heavier. There's that saying, isn't there, "in a year's time, you'll wish you'd started today"?

Aph 5lbs off is amazing, what a start!

Mumsyoftwo09 · 27/02/2018 14:25

Hello!

I have just found this thread. I weigh 25st and 7.5lbs and am 5ft4in so morbidly morbidly obese.

I could go on forever with the reasons I need to lose the fat but the main one is I am a lone parent with two young kids. I so far just have sleep apnea but if I don’t sort myself out will end up with far more.

I hope it’s ok to post and say hi, just going to have a big read of the thread.

Should of mentioned before I’m doing WW and hoping to lose 12 stone 😮. But for now it’s a pound at a time.

👋🏼

Tiddler7 · 27/02/2018 15:26

Hi!
My turn to join the club. I'm 16st, and about 5.5 tall (gee, does anyone speak kg and cm here..?). I am very much into healthy eating, but not into exercising at all. Although decided to give it a go with jogging tonight after work. With my 4yo for company.

I am also best friends with Prosecco Blush Do I need a divorce?

Tiddler7 · 27/02/2018 15:28

Hi Mumsy, looks like me you've found this thread on gp one? 🖐

RavenLG · 27/02/2018 16:21

Hi.
I've just been linked to the thread too so hoping I can join in too.
Currently 17stone 1.4lbs. For my height I believe I should be about 8stone but there is no freaking way I'd ever make it to 8 stone. I don't think I weighed that as small child haha! Hoping to get to 10stone meaning I need to lose about 100lbs I think.
I've started slimming world (done it before with some success) but I need will power. So i hope you lovely ladies can help me!

SciFiLover · 27/02/2018 16:49

Hello. I am new here!
I am 5 foot 9 and I am 20 stone so 12 stone is the top of my healthy weight range so I have 8 stone to lose.

I was 20 stone 2 years ago and then I lost 3.5 stone on slimming world and then I hit a nasty patch of depression and piled it all back on within 2 months so now I'm feeling a bit better, I'm joining slimming world again tomorrow.

My main kick up the arse has been my 3 year old little boy saying he wants more chocolate to make him fat like mummy. I am horrified and I do not want him to go down the same road as me so I'm doing something about it now!

AnotherOtter · 27/02/2018 16:58

Welcome RavenLG, Tiddler7, Mumsy, SciFi and Aph Smile Was this thread suggested someplace? We're a friendly, supportive lot here. People are using a variety of methods to lose weight and everyone is at different stages too so the more the merrier.

Great start, Aph. Not to rain on your parade but remember it will slow down a lot (unless you are doing VLCD or an extreme deficit). One pound off a week seems to be a pretty good week round here.

A biscuit is just a biscuit, Chesty. You can eat whatever the fuck you want! If you have particular goals then you might adapt what you fancy to that but it's 100% up to you. What did the dietitian have to say? I hope she was helpful.

Hope you feel better soon, Moonlight. Colds are miserable Thanks

Those are great achievements, B1. You've done really well. Good luck with your next goals. I am looking to improve my blood pressure too. It's come down a lot but some more would be excellent.

How are you feeling now, Honey? Sounds like you had a tough evening. It is a long slog, there is no getting away from it but like you say, the time will pass quickly whatever you do and imagine what it'll be like in another year still the same weight or heavier. If you fell off the wagon, remember it's only a failure if you don't learn from it and get back up. Hope I don't sound preachy but that saying helps me.

I like to remind myself that I can eat whatever I want and that I am choosing to currently eat less. So I decided I wanted aloo saag (why that? Who knows) and I made a less calorific version of it so I still had a calorie deficit though a bit smaller than usual. It was so satisfying and really hit the spot. In the past, I just wouldn't have bothered and ignored what I wanted which strikes me now as sad. Then probably binged on other food! It's really odd all the stuff I am learning about my eating habits.

B1rdonawire · 27/02/2018 17:34

Welcome all the people who came over here from the AIBU thread about lack of GP support for weight loss - I couldn't read it to the end because the poor OP was partly taking a battering, and partly drowning in conflicting advice. Was a good reminder for me to never start an AIBU!

AnotherOtter that is great advice about really responding to what your body wants. Something I need to work on...

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 27/02/2018 17:47

Hello to all our new joiners Smile - get stuck in and get started Smile

We're all doing our own thing, but the important thing is we're all in this for the long haul Wink. Do it right and you only have to do it once, and all that... As Another says, about 1lb a week is about average here (unless you get a 'whoosh') - it gets a bit boring reading 'oh you lose lots of weight at the start when you're really fat' - because that's just not true in my experience (or sustainable, I suspect). But it all counts, and the important thing is to Keep on Keeping On!

I've had a good day - snow is starting to swirl here, so I'm very grateful for a bowl of my veg chilli to heat me up Smile. Doing my sums tonight to work out my gym membership options when I start new job Smile

Welcome to the new members Flowers
The thread in AIBU was harsh!

otter she said it’s just a biscuit and I should have eaten it as a not regular thing and I hadn’t had lunch or breakfast. BiscuitGate just became a massive thing in my head and I couldn’t eat it. She thinks we need to work on the psychological stuff more Blush
Tractor it’s been snowing all day here.

Bloody ChestyDog is looking at me out of one eye, he walked into a bush....again!
He’s determined to bankrupt me!

teaiseverything · 27/02/2018 19:16

May I join? Going to sit with a cuppa tonight and catch up with everyone Smile

I became chunky and totally not funky through comfort eating because of chronic illness. Once I realised the chronic illnesses weren't going anywhere, I sought comfort in food: namely chocolate and desserts.

I'm making some really good breakthroughs with counselling and it's helping me a lot. I'm not on a plan as such, just sensible eating. I'm not snacking as it's just what suits me best and instead of piles of chocolate at night, I'm having SW baked oats and it still feels like something nice.

I won't be weighing in every week as I can become very obsessive but I'll be checking the scales about once a month to see the outcome of my healthy approach. I've roughly 5 stone to lose.

As well as not comfort eating (well, I suppose it's tied in), I'm making it my mission to make sensible choices if I've had to be in hospital for a stay or A&E for treatment. When I get home, I'm ordering sensible food like hummus, grilled chicken and salad rather than a "woe is me" pizza Grin.

Looking forward to getting to know you all Smile

honeysucklejasmine · 27/02/2018 20:13

Wow, all these newbies! I'm glad you've joined us. 100lbs plus just sounds and feels so impossible but this thread shows it is. If one of us can do it, we all can.

AnotherOtter much better today. I looked at my splurge on Sunday, and MFP estimates what your weight will be in 5 weeks, if every day were like that one. And it was still a loss. So it reassured me that even a bad day isn't going to ruin my weight loss, just slow it a wee bit until I get back on track. Also, I realised I've only been doing mfp for 24 days and I've lost 5lb, so it's not all bad.

SciFi one of my main motivations is my children too. I don't want them to have the issues growing up that I did. And I certainly don't want my daughter to have the same crappy self esteem that I had. I know I missed out on stuff and I don't want her to miss out too.

PostNotInHaste · 27/02/2018 20:28

A warm welcome to everyone new to the thread. I’m feeling a bit out of touch with who has lost what this week so will say a big well done to everyone who has lost or stayed the same and a hang in there to anyone who has gained.

That’s so important what Honeysuckle has said, one bad day will not undo the good choices made. I think where diets go wrong is we all have a natural tendency to focus on the small amount of bits that go wrong rather than all the good choices we have made. The years of yo-yo dieting a lot of us have done have screwed our relationship with food and we have to relearn the basics such as portion size but also deal with all the emotions that relate to food and how we use it.

It’s a massive thing and it will take a long time but it’s doable. I found reading some of the success stories on MFP forum where they’ve lost a lot and kept it off very helpful to read - there’s nothing different about those people to any of us.

I did weigh in at weekend and lost a quarter of a pound. I’m not really trying to lose at the moment as am finding bejn* in deficit whilst bleeding for a lot of the month is a bit much so just maintaining. That quarter of a pound took me to a new number on the scales though. Next time I go down a number I’ll be at my goal.

RavenLG · 27/02/2018 20:39

Yup, I saw the link in the AIBU thread. Hopefully the OP on that thread can take the good advice that was given to her and gain what she wants to achieve.

As for me, I'm sick of being out of breath after walking up the stairs! I'm sick of working on a Diabetes project at work and getting the 'really?' looks from people because I'm a prime target for (even though I've been tested and I'm not / not near pre-diabetic luckily). I'm sick of sweating working events at work. I'm sick of having no confidence and being so bloody embarrassed by how I look. I'm sick of having no energy and being aches and pains. I'm sick of avoiding being intimate with my lovely DP because I hate how I look (even though I know he loves me). I just genuinely want to get healthier and have a better life! (sorry for the rant)

Had a good few days so hoping I can keep it up through the week.

Moonandstars84 · 27/02/2018 20:43

Just seen link on another thread. I am 5ft 2 and weigh just over 16 stone. I cannot carry on like this.
Just under two years ago I had to lose weight for surgery. I begged my GP for help but did not qualify for help apparently.
So I did a Lighter Life style diet. I felt the only way am I could do it was by taking food out of the equation. I got down to 12 half stone. I had the op but I have regained the weight with an extra stone on top.
Really need to do something.
Will have a read to catch up.

PostNotInHaste · 27/02/2018 20:54

Welcome Moonandstars. Raven I can relate to a lot of that.

Something else I have found hugely helpful and I think others have too is eating at maintenance. Very helpful tool to use with times when life gets in the way a bit too much and gives you practice for long term maintenance which is the difficult bit. A lot of us have found walking very helpful, start small and build up. I downloaded running music and found it helped with getting my pace up then after a time I would get a kind of Pavlovian response to it and my feet sort of moved by themselves !

Moonandstars84 · 27/02/2018 21:05

I love to walk. I try and do 10 thousand steps a day. I just need to the ante a bit.
I have a fitness tracker. Think I need to give my fitness pal another try. Had to delete it as ran out memory.

PhantomBlooper · 27/02/2018 21:13

Hello! Would anyone mind if I joined?

I'm 15.5stone, highest weight 17.5 stone, looking to get to about 10.5!

Did get down to 13 doing a VLCD but tale as old as time, I gained half of it back. Trying to get it off for good now through managing my diet and exercise!

PostNotInHaste · 27/02/2018 21:25

Everyone is very welcome Smile

Love my Fitbit and have quite a lot of data so know the calorie burn info on it is pretty accurate. I use it with Nutracheck which I saw suggested on here, similar to MFP but I find it that bit more user friendly and it gives small, medium or large portion sizes for a fair few foods which I find very helpful as my idea of a portion was way off.

Moonandstars84 · 27/02/2018 21:39

Thank you for welcome.

honeysucklejasmine · 27/02/2018 23:14

Aww, shucks, Post. I'm only putting in to practice what I have learned on this thread.

Exercise is something I don't do. In an organised fashion, anyway. I have a toddler and a baby so I am pretty busy anyway. Although a baby friend did mention that she did Pilates so I might investigate that once a week. Sure baby could survive without me for an hour or so. I have connective tissue disease so I can't do high impact activities like carrying around my massive bulk so Pilates might be good. Seeing her tomorrow so will enquire more.

Welcome back nurse - what a wonderful holiday you had and what a fab feeling about fitting in those darn seats.

We are planning on going to Tokyo in 2020 for the Olympics and I would love to be able to sit comfortably on a plane for that.

Also big welcome to all the newbies on the thread
