Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017-18 - Part 3

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 27/09/2017 19:49

Hello, welcome to the third instalment of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017’ thread. As we’re getting closer to the end of 2017, I’ve added 2018 for good measure Smile

If you want to read them (but by no means feel obliged!), the first and second threads are here: Part 1 and here: Part 2

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and I think we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way Wink Collectively, we’ve lost 612 lbs since the start of the first thread, which is pretty amazing Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread, I will make one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals.

And with that, I'm off to spam our old thread to fill it up Grin

Welcome back Aph

Well done Notractors

I've put on 1 lb, hopefully just down to hormones/water retention as AF finally arrived. Just can't seem to hit the half way mark.

To lose 113
Lost to date 55
Left to lose 58
Lost this week 1+

I've got a trying couple of weeks, which involves lots of eating and drinking out (my birthday on Monday and Dsis visiting from abroad). Think I will go maintenance and enjoy the eating out etc, but being sensible the rest of the time. This will certainly be a test for me.

Hi all, everyone is doing so well!

I’m really struggling right now, mostly with my mental health and trying so hard to keep my head above water so I’m bowing out until I can get my head sorted

I’m extremely grateful for all the encouragement and kindness shown on this thread xxx

ChestyNutsRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 28/01/2018 10:00

So either the GPS scales or mine are out of whack Hmm

This week +8oz
Lost - 39lb 8oz
To lose- 60lb 8oz

I think it may be ovulation week as I normally have a small gain every 4 weeks.
Disappointed after my good loss last week but it’s the keeping going that counts right?

Lego we’ll be here when your ready Flowers

notanurse excellent work on your presentation and feeling more confident! I hate speaking in front of others.

breaking hormones suck. I’ve the back pain from hell to go with my gain. Hopefully we’ll have a good loss next week?

Tractors we’re weight loss twins this week! Both lost 39.5lbs Grin

Please can I join? I’m 5ft 8 17 stone size 22 aiming for 15stone to start. Mindless eating and fear of famine plus dehydration are my issues. I’m 49 and I’m avoiding climbing more than 2flights of stairs at work because Im unfit. Although my life isn’t chaotic, it feels disorganised. I work 20 miles from home and either take the car or take the bus. Waking to the bus stop takes 20 minutes then 50 minutes on the bus. 2nights a week I am away with work in a hotel. One day a week i look after my mum.
My issues are; stopping at mc Donald’s in morning for muffin and latte.
Eating crap at work. Large baguettes with high cal fillings plus crisps plus fizzy drink. Then eating large dinner plus pudding.
I’m working on a plan. I need to be able to transport a largish bag to work with work gear plus lunch stuff. We have no cooking facilities Then I may need a cool bag in car for other stuff when I’m working away?
I could do 30 mins excercise 5 days a week.
Any tips gratefully received. I’ve downloaded the podcast app.
Thank you

AnotherOtter · 28/01/2018 13:28

Starting weight: 241lbs
Current weight: 165.2lbs
Loss this week: 3.4lbs
Total loss: 75.8lbs
To go: 25.2lbs

The whoosh fairy visited me this week and I have no idea why as did nothing different. No wonder weight loss is such a head fuck with random 'rewards' and 'punishments'. Treat a dog like that and it'd be called cruel! Anyway, I am grateful but confused.

Moonlight, fingers crossed the increased dose of thyroxine will help with the weight loss.

Thanks, Post, Moonlight and Notanurse for the info on your carb intakes. Interesting stuff and I will think it over. Already making more of an effort to eat more protein and fibre (to keep me feeling full longer) but maybe it's time to try to reduce carbs a bit.

Welcome back, Aph. Your swimming sounds great! Do you have some sort of step tracker? I found my fitbit strangely motivating to increase my steps and now stick to it pretty religiously.

Notanurse, great clothes finds which sounds very motivating. I'm also hoping that this thread lives on long-term as, while I hope to get to my goal weight sometime this year, I would really like to stick around during maintenance if you'll have me.

Lego, best wishes and hope things improve for you soon Thanks

Welcome Clogaregreat. That is a hardcore schedule and commute you have! I know it's tempting to try to change everything at once but that often isn't sustainable and leads to a fast burn out. So perhaps chose one or two things to change this week then add more in over time? Like swapping fizzy drinks to diet or water/fruit tea or dropping the pudding after dinner or swapping the baguette to a lower calorie option? Exercise is great too but again build up slowly. I started with two ten minute walks a day at 17 stone and that was tough as I was very unfit but now I have built up to two forty-five minute walks every day and do 13-15k steps a day. You don't have to do everything perfectly right at the beginning: you can learn as you go. Good luck and keep posting Smile

moonlight1705 · 28/01/2018 17:21

Well done on all your losses everyone!

Loss this week: 1/2 lb
Total loss: 5lb

However this weekend has been the building of our new greenhouse....think I've burned off plenty of calories. Quite pleased with myself really Smile especially as DH is useless at DIY so left me to it

IamtheDevilsAvocado · 28/01/2018 21:54

Hello!

I've only just found this thread! I'll join please!

I need to lose well over 100lbs....tiresomely now have diabetes and low level cardiac problems.... So bored with being so fat! Was always average/low average weight as a kid.... Sporting injuries, so put in tons of weight as adult....
Strategy : not to eat crap and watch portions... Am thinking re trying 5:2 diet.

Someone mentioned a pod cast? Where would I find this please?

Clogsaregreat · 28/01/2018 23:17

Thank you for the welcome. You are wise otter small steps. Today I did some uphill walking and kept to 1600 cals. I’ve got my work lunch in fridge ready for tomorrow. I’m pontificating joining the gym but need to work out a plan of when I can actually go. I cleaned the car too and set a goal of only drinking in it coffee etc and no eating. Grabbing snacks from drive throughs have been a habit I’m keen to break.
iam I downloaded an app called castbox. It’s free and had all sorts of genres on it such as novels, crime, music etc.
I’m feeling good. I’m feeling I’m not alone.

BoredOnMatLeave · 29/01/2018 09:44

Thanks Another and honey, i will try both of those breakfast ideas. I always forget about yoghurt, we always have a ton of the stuff in as DD loves it.

Start weight 232lb
Todays weight 195lb
Loss this week 2lb
Total loss 37lb

B1rdonawire · 29/01/2018 13:40

0.5 off today - but given the spots/bloating/general hormonal joy, I'll take that.

Total loss: 45.5lbs
Almost halfway (and 3.5lbs off losing the entire weight of DD, although I think she's grown again so might be heavier. I could be chasing that mini-target for a while...)

I made the jam and coconut cake from the pinchofnom website this week (SW) - was easy and surprisingly tasty. Also very dense may be my baking so that made it easier to control portion!

That's a might impressive greenhouse Moonlight!

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 29/01/2018 18:19

Another quick post - welcome newbies, and I'm very impressed with that greenhouse moonlight!

I'm waiting to hear if I've got to the next stage of a job I interviewed for last week - I was supposed to hear this morning, but radio silence Sad Fighting the urge to feed the emotions - so off for a bath now!

PostNotInHaste · 29/01/2018 18:39

Good news that meds being sorted Moonlight. I love your greenhouse! What are you planning to grow in it? I have a couple of new raised beds and planted garlic, onions and chives yesterday plus have some broadbeans through. Hoping to have lots of fruit and veg for a healthy summer nad autumn.

Welcome Aph413, sounds like a sensible plan.

BreakingSad hang in there, get AF out the way and it will come good. I’m jealous AF has tuned up, send Maintenance sounds very sensible.

Well done Notanurse* you won’t be on your own here! Great NSV.

Sorry to hear you’re struggling Lego I really hope there is some support available for you with your mental health. Please feel free to pop in anytime and say hello or let us know how you are doing.

Chesty it is definitely KOKO that counts. Hormones are a PITA . End of. Should be banned ?

Welcome Clogs. I used to puff after a flight of stairs . A lot of us on here have made great progress wit( walking. Some fast paced music and gradually working up speed gradually. I got DD a thermos food flask when she was at school and she found that helped as not very into sandwiches. Coolbag in car sounds like a good idea too.

Great news about the whoosh fairy Otter, pass her around when you’re done with her please Grin.

Welcome Devilsadvocado , can relate to feeling bored of being fat, I felt like that.

Coming off nicely Boredonmatleave and 0.5lb whilst hormonal sounds pretty good to me B1rdonawire

Are you mug mealing this week Notractors?

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 30/01/2018 20:06

I want a visit from the whoosh fairy!! Grin

I am indeed mug mealing this week and one creme egg - turns out I am through to the next stage of interviews, so I'm glad I didn't break yesterday! I do feel more confident in my interview clothes, so that's a good thing. This job would involve having dedicated 'Work Clothes', rather than my usual jeggings and boots Blush, so I better get my arse moving just in case!

Hope you're all having a good week - January is nearly over, so it's practically Spring now Wink.

I'm signing in at the heaviest I've ever been & procrastinating too long with many reasons & excuses over the last year.

One of which is having a new kitchen & enjoying eventually baking & cooking new dishes so if anyone could point me in the direction of weight loss recipes that taste nice, I'd be v grateful-love stir fries & Thai type food.

Will go & read over thread-I've 5 stone+ to lose. Do you find it easier looking at it in lb rather than stones?

BreakingSad · 31/01/2018 10:44

Well done to get through to the next stage Notractors

Hello Clogsaregreat and IamtheDevilsAvocado

Welcome Buckeejit, I do this dish sometimes, if has reference to slimming world, I don't do slimming world just liked the recipe. Hope the link works

http://www.slimmingeats.com/blog/chilli-beef-noodles

My last meal out tonight, had a sneaky peek and I've stayed the same which I'm pleased about. I am learning though to balance my food intake and have lighter meals to compensate when eating out, definitely progress in my book Grin

KOKO

AnotherOtter · 01/02/2018 16:09

Great greenhouse, Moonlight. How is it attached to the ground? Unless the legs are sunk in three feet of concrete, it'd be offski in the next gale here. You'll get loads of lovely fresh vegetables this summer Smile

Welcome IamtheDevilsAvocado. Itunes is a good place to start looking for podcast as they are categorised and rated.

Congratulations on getting through to the next round of interviews, Tractors! Very well done on not stress eating too.

Welcome Buckeejit. The BBC Good Food website has some good recipes https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/collection/low-calorie-dinner if you are looking for low calorie. If you are looking for low carb then try the recipe threads stickied in the Low Carb Bootcamp forum.

Well done for maintaining, Breaking. That is great progress and great practice for when you get to your goal weight.

I have had a fucking awful week. Need to face facts that my mood is going downhill and I have to do something about it. Had a terrible day of eating yesterday after not doing something important, and not that difficult, and feeling like a complete failure. My thoughts are very all-or-nothing and getting out of hand. I am going to make a big effort to be kinder to myself and do the sensible coping strategies to lift my mood. I'm going to continue the dieting until weigh in day on Sunday and if things are not picking up, do a week of maintenance. Any other advice gratefully received Smile

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 01/02/2018 20:55

Another that sounds like a good plan - be nice to yourself. I've just treated myself to a new notebook from Paperchase as a reward for finishing a work project and some stickers I'm such a child at times, but it's much better than 'treating' myself with food.

I'm going to give v. early morning exercise a go (not tomorrow, but Saturday) - I've worked out a route that should take me 40 mins, and if I just get up and DO IT, I'll feel much better for the rest of the day. I'm struggling to stay awake in the evenings, so I figure mornings are better for me, as I can hop out of bed fairly easily Smile

Hope everyone else is doing well - it's nearly the weekend, and January is finally over! Smile

moonlight1705 · 02/02/2018 09:10

Tractors well done on second round and very well done and rewarding yourself with lovely stationary! Grin
Sometimes I think we are own worst enemy, we know we can do the exercise, we know we will feel better after it and we know its good for us so what is the excuse? I still can't be bothered and wasted a few months of gym membership.

Breaking love that you can have lighter meals now.

Another and Post The greenhouse is sitting on gravel with a membrane so we dug the legs into the earth underneath and covered - so far, so good! We have also got 12 raised beds in the back garden plus an mini orchard so this summer its rhubarb, raspberries, strawberries, pears, apples, plums, blackberries, sloes for fruit and tomatoes, chillies, leeks, sweet potato, artichoke, butternut squash, carrots, garlic, red onion, runner beans, cabbage and lettuce for the veg.
So if anyone is in the West Midlands and wants fresh veg then you know the place to come!!

I tried a fasting day yesterday so ate breakfast then didn't eat anything until breakfast this morning. It wasn't as bad as I thought to be honest, although I was thirsty all day and drank loads of water. Will see if it has helped at all.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 02/02/2018 16:26

So impressed with your horticultural skills moonlight!

I'm having a super positive day - and a night out tonight, which is quite exciting. I've got so much to do this weekend so I'm not drinking (and after Dry Jan, I really don't see the point of drinking), and keep this kick of positivity going for as long as I can!

Dry Jan has been really interesting for me - I only ever drink at the weekends, and not every weekend at that, but it has surprised me at how much my feelings towards alcohol have changed, and a Friday night glass of wine really isn't a requirement to relax. Obvious, really! I'm going to take this next month as a challenge to really try my best with my weight loss, and see what other habits I can change in a month.

Happy Friday all Grin

That’s really good news about the interviews NoTractors a huge well done ! I’m an early exerciser a couple of times a week. If I sort of stumble out of bed and don’t splash water on my face to wake up I can kind of pretend I’m still in bed dreaming! Love it on the summer, hard this time of year but then when done I get to wear my smug face. Have a lovely night out.

Welcome bukeetjit. I also find the BBC website useful on occasions. I think in both stones and pounds, depending on my mood !

Well done BreakingSad, I think the balancing food thing is big progress.

Otter i’m really sorry to hear you’re struggling. Maintenance can definitely take the pressure off and as we know is good practice for maintenance so you feel you are achieving something. I know it’s very different but i’m struggling with my hormones atm. The minute I start struggling I go straight onto maintenance to take the pressure off. I think a long term deficit very hard to keep up and am not going to push myself when things are tough.

Moonlight wow! I’ve got 6 raised beds so far for this year but hoping to increase these in the future. I have a mini orchard for this year in pots which i’m excited about. There are 2 apples, 2 cherry trees and a mirabelle tree on the ground as well. I’m trying to train gooseberries as double and triple cordons and have spent a bit of time hunting for raspberry canes which we used to have and stuck them Into a bed for now which could thinking about it might possibly be able to become a raspberry patch. Dig up my 3 blueberry plants which are next to an azalea which is thriving so thought the soil would be right but they don’t fruit. Hoping they do better in pots this year. Bought and planted some comfrey Bocking 14 and have a couple left over for the school allotment.

Gain for me this week, nearly a couple of pounds. However AF finally arrived over a week late today so I am hugely relieved and very proud no one was injured in the slightest whilst I have been waiting for it to turn up. This week was a maintenance as had the raving munchies.

Given up on fasting, can do a day or two then my gallbladderless body protests. A friend did warn me it might happen but I was ignoring her! I’m fine over night but do need to eat relatively regularly during the day, a little and often scenario.

BreakingSad · 03/02/2018 12:10

1 lb loss for me, so I've cancelled out my gain from last week. Still on maintaining as still got a couple of evening out.

Moonlight I'm in awe of your green fingers.

Another Thanks sounds like a sensible plan.
*
Post* glad AF showed up. I did the 5:2 once, just wasn't for me. How about a protein day twice a week so no carbs, it's the maintenance on the dukan diet, I could definitely manage this (when I reach goal)
