Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017-18 - Part 3

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 27/09/2017 19:49

Hello, welcome to the third instalment of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017’ thread. As we’re getting closer to the end of 2017, I’ve added 2018 for good measure Smile

If you want to read them (but by no means feel obliged!), the first and second threads are here: Part 1 and here: Part 2

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and I think we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way Wink Collectively, we’ve lost 612 lbs since the start of the first thread, which is pretty amazing Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread, I will make one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals.

And with that, I'm off to spam our old thread to fill it up Grin

Good morning! I am almost fully recovered and back on it! The fluid weight has gone, hurrah! Stats:

Weight at start: 270lbs
had a baby
Weight 22nd Jan 2018: 248.7lbs
Target: 168lbs
To reach target: 80.7lbs
Total loss: 21.3lbs

Phew. I'm down in to next stone bracket so need to keep going. And potentially cut down on the houmous.

eyeswideshit · 22/01/2018 11:22

Just a quick one from me. Put a pound on which is some sort of miracle after eating everything in sight last week. My mental health has gone down the drain and I'm struggling to leave my bed at the minute. Need to ring in the morning for a doctor's appointment. Hope you guys are getting on better than me!

Orangesox · 22/01/2018 12:03

Ooo can I join you all? I’ve been a bit of a yo-yo dieter for all of my adult life really, finally in the right mindset to do this for good now!

Start weight on 1/1/18: 297lbs Shock
Current weight: 277lbs
Target weight: 168lbs
Total loss: 20lbs
To reach target: 109lbs

I’m calorie counting and making conscious better choices in attempt to retrain my brain as to what are normal portion sizes, and normal intake over a day. I’ve also upped my activity level, so I’m getting out with a friend on a dog walk at least three times a week for about 1.5miles, trying to go for a 2 mile walk on the two days I work from home... and longer walk on the weekends where possible. I’m restricted from any impact activities, or movements which put increased pressure on my hip joint due to femoroacetabular impingement so for the time being I’m sticking with walking.

AnotherOtter · 22/01/2018 12:24

Didn't find the time to post my weekly weigh-in yesterday (why do I do it on a Sunday anyway?!) so here it is today.

Starting weight: 241lbs
Current weight: 168.6lbs
Lost this week: 0.8lb
Total lost: 72.4lbs
To go: 28.6lbs

Had my first proper binge in over six months on Friday which is disappointing. Much smaller than my old binges but still about the same amount as a dinner. I'm trying to learn from it and think it was a build up of stress and frustration about my physical health problems. Still got the UTI despite two courses of antibiotics and got a lot side-effects from those and my current medication. I've been reading my old CBT mood stuff and going over the psychotherapy stuff which is helping. Feeling a lot more positive today as have already handed in my urine sample for culture and done 20k steps. I have been in a lot of public toilets though...

Post, my waist-to-hip ratio and waist-to-height ratio aren't too hot either and I think it's those that will guide my eventual goal weight rather than the scales. I have a lot of loose skin so not really planning to go by aesthetics. I have a much higher risk of cardiovascular disease than the general public (bipolar people's average life expectancy is 60 which is partly due to suicide but also a lot to do with our pish cardiovascular disease statistics). As I've got older I've found that risk much more motivating! You don't have long to go with any of these measures though which will be amazing!

Chesty, I thought the people who posted after me on your Chat thread had some good advice. Hope you find something helpful soon, sounds painful and upsetting.

Notanurse, I've noticed a similar thing to what you experienced on the train with the table trays when I play the piano as I have less 'bulk' in front of me and more room for my arms. It's a strange feeling, kind of unsettling. Sorry to hear you are feeling a bit flat. Hope things pick up soon for you.

Mamma, that is still a great loss, please don't be disheartened. I lurk on a lot of different threads on here and there is so much variation between people and even between different times in the each person's life. Nothing is constant unfortunately as it would make a pretty graph in MFP.

Great to hear that you are feeling better, Honey.

Sorry that things are so rubbish just now, Eyes. A doctor's appointment sounds like a good idea. I hope you feel much better very soon. Keep posting but maybe concentrate on getting better rather than weight loss just now? Or aim to maintain rather than lose? You sound like you have a lot to deal with already.

Welcome Orange. That sounds like a great plan to me and well done on your progress already.

Well done to all those who have lost or STS but are KOKO regardless Thanks

BoredOnMatLeave · 22/01/2018 15:48

Sorry I'm not great with keeping up with this thread, I must remember to bookmark.

Well I weighed in this morning:

Start weight 232lb
Todays weight 197lb

Which means (drumroll)... I am no longer obese! That feels quite good to say.

I've also signed up for Race for Life which is something I never thought I would say 4 months ago. I've got a lot of training to do but I feel confident that I will make it as it's 5 months away.

ChestyNutsRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 22/01/2018 17:11

otter yes I got some good advice Flowers

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 22/01/2018 18:19

Welcome orange, what a fab start you've made!

eyes I know that feeling well - sending you lots of strength and positive vibes. Hope you've managed to get an appointment, and in the meantime, I like cheering myself on with swearing Blush 'Yes, I've fucking had a fucking shower' and 'Check me the fuck out, going up the fucking stairs'. It's ridiculous, and difficult to explain to small children within earshot, but does help me with a change of mindset.

Another well done on the loss, especially with the UTI. Really impressed with your self-awareness about your 'binge' - it takes me far longer to come to any rational explanation for why I do things like that occasionally apart from 'dunno'! Hope you get better soon.

Bored - woo hoo! That's fab news.

If you're lurking, feel free to say hello!

I am living proof that coughing doesn't burn ANY bloody calories! Have done nothing but hack away for what feels like forever Sad very sorry for myself! Combined with looking after DM and DD (we all have the cough) it has been hard going not reaching for the biscuits "to keep me going" this week. My brain is unwilling to accept that a biscuit is not the answer (I don't blame it!)

1lb off this week but a definite looser feeling in my jeans - isn't it weird how you just plod on and on and on and on without clothes feeling any different and then one day they do? How does that work?

PostNotInHaste · 23/01/2018 07:20

NoTractors I am very very impressed with the organised vibe coming off you this year!

Chesty have you seen the nurse yet?

Glad you’re feeling better Honeysuckle. Maybe ease back into it very gently to give your body as long as possible to recover?

Eyes I’m so sorry to hear you are struggling and hope you don’t have to wait long for a GP appointment Flowers A pound on is nothing in the scheme of things and sorting your mental health out is far more important for now.

Welcome Orange, Walking is excellent and quite underrated by some I always feel. Quite a few of us here have made a lot of progress with walking. Sorting portion size is sensible, that’s something I struggled with at the beginning.

AnotherOtter the fact you actually know how much your binge was is really good progress in my book scan element of control. I’m still a little prone potentially I still feel but the last few months have been much easier on that front. Well done on the loss. It’s the cardiovascular risk that I find motivating too.

Boredonmaternityleave that is a huge milestone, a massive well done! I found being overweight very exciting Grin I had that moment of deciding I wanted to do the race for life that got me going on the running, like you never dreamed in a million years that I would say that. Couldn’t do it last year as too soon after op but mu will do it this year. You have plenty of time as it’s getting started and up to the first mile that’s the hardest. Are you going to do Couch to 5K? I really recommend it and a decent pair of trainers plus sports bra. Music is essential for me too, my legs won’t move without it!

B1rdonawire that cough is bloody awful. My pelvic floor has only just started working again (tmii ) . Know exactly what you mean about clothes, very weird how it works. Once you get smaller though a few pounds makes significantly more of a difference than when you’re bigger. It doesn’t seem very long ago that I started to be able to get into the larger 14’s and the other day managed a large 10 which quite frankly made my face go like this Shock and then Grin My boobs haven’t quite got the memo but are going down a bit, I need a bra intervention and some uplift in my life!

First Fast Day of the week done yesterday finishing at 700 cals.

moonlight1705 · 23/01/2018 17:38

Right, I put on half a pound this week through some silly choices and a crisp binge.

So tonight I am off to my second taekwondo class of the week rather than just doing one. Extra exercise plus stops me having the time to snack!!

Someone give me a virtual kick please!

ChestyNutsRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 23/01/2018 18:01

Thursday Post area boil was still squishy Hmm

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 23/01/2018 21:11

Haha Post - I try very hard to be organised at work, but at home is a different matter. There's a brilliant article Slate.com about Muppet Theory, I'm very much a Chaos Muppet, masquerading as an Order Muppet! Grin

And amazing news about fitting into a size 10! That's utterly amazing Grin Star Star

moonlight - you could lose half a pound with a big wee, so don't beat yourself up too much. Hope you enjoyed your class!

Chesty - don't squish it! Can't really take my own advice though, as I've got a cracker of a spot on my leg, which is taunting me dreadfully Blush

And with that lovely image, I'm off to bed...! Hope everyone else is having a good week Smile

OP posts:
BoredOnMatLeave · 24/01/2018 08:04

post yes it's the c25k I'm doing, just finished week 2 and I even continued running on the last run as I wasn't tired! I've actually just ordered a sports bra as I don't own one! I'm not very big in the bust area anyway but would be easier to have them strapped down. I agree with music there is no way I would do it without it

PostNotInHaste · 25/01/2018 06:48

Moonlight don’t worry about that half as Tractors says, it’s a wee! Aim of the game is to have a gradual downwards trend, weight does fluctuate over the course of a month a fair bit for a lot of people. If you want to put it in perspective work out how many cals your crisp binge was and put it in perspective using that it takes 3500 cals over and above what you need each day to gain a pound. The rest.

Ouch Chesty Sad

I’m an order Muppet Tractors, sabotaged by the chaos muppets who live in this house !

Well done BoredonMaternity leave, that’s great! Sounds like you’re doing really well with it, I was at the OMG, no way will I ever be able to do half an hour stage on week 2. If you find things do get a bit harder next week then focus on speed. Lack of it is what you want at this stage, so that you can hold a conversation as you go. In my case this meant I was pretty much overtaken by dog walkers but that was ok!

AnotherOtter · 25/01/2018 10:24

How are you doing, Eyes? I hope you are starting to feel a bit better Thanks

Congratulations on moving BMI categories, Bored, that's excellent progress. And really well done on starting C25K. I have been eyeing that up so please post how you find it as I'm very interested in learning.

Tractors, think it's the years of psychotherapy that makes me reflective. My insight is pretty variable and I wish I could work out this things before binges rather than afterwards.

Well done on your loss, B1. I don't know why clothes feel looser happens all of a sudden but it seems to happen to a lot of people! It really would help if weight loss was linear and predictable but it's just not for a lot of us.

Wow, congratulations on the size 10, Post, that is fantastic! How are you finding the fast days? Is it resetting your appetite as you hoped?

Moonlight, like the others said, half a pound could well be a normal water fluctuation. I weigh daily and I can be two pounds higher if I eat a lot of salt. Try and learn from the times you didn't eat as you would have preferred so you can reduce the chance of it happening in the future. That way the whole experience wasn't for nothing.

A bit TMI, sorry, but my gut has been sluggish so I ate some dried figs to help things along. They were delicious and so sweet, the sweetest thing I've eaten for ages. However, they're really kickstarted sugar cravings. It seems like it's true for me that over a certain amount of carbs causes cravings for more carbs though I know that's not true for everyone. I wonder if my hungry days last week were also due to too many carbs. What kind of percentage of carbs do you folks eat and do you think it makes a difference to hunger or cravings?

ChestyNutsRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 25/01/2018 17:08

Weighed at GP as part of med check and weighed 9 lbs less than I weigh on my scales last Sunday.
Think I need some new scales Grin

PostNotInHaste · 26/01/2018 07:13

Oh wow Chesty, they are the kind of surprises I like!

Otter I’d not looked at percentage carbs before but just found a setting that shoes me a pie chart. In the last week I seem to be somewhere between 40 and 50% carbs. I’ve found that my hungry days are usually hormonal or caused by lack of sleep but everyone is different so worth experimenting.

STS for me this week but having spent a couple of weeks of nearly arriving, AF was due yesterday and no sign as yet so very happy to have stayed the same.

moonlight1705 · 26/01/2018 09:51

So my test results have come back and I'm being upped on my thyroid medication so I guess that might help with the weight loss.

Another Otter I know what you mean about something kick starting sugar cravings - that is my biggest weakness at the moment. How are you doing with that?

Bored well done on the C25k - I tried that and got to week 9 but hated every minute of it. My DH is a runner and doesn't understand why I dreaded doing it....its amazing when you find something you actually like doing exercise wise. I hope you are getting on well with it.

Chesty lovely surprise there! Keep going to that GP Smile

post It would be interesting to see how the percentage of carbs can change the weight loss over the week.

honeysucklejasmine · 26/01/2018 09:52

Ok, we're in dire need of lunch ideas. This morning we have almost finished our second 800g loaf of medium sliced bread since Tuesday morning. Shock

Help! I have a toddler who loves carbs and a baby who likes to be on my boob at all times so cooking has to be fast and easy.

BoredOnMatLeave · 26/01/2018 15:24

honey I know everyone says this but can you batch prepare your lunch for say 3 days. Cook up a load of chicken and make a chicken salad for everyday and keep in the fridge?

I have a problem with bread too, I have to keep it in the fridge now and just take slices out and defrost for DD, for some reason I don't want it if I have to go to the effort of defrosting.

If anyone has any carb free breakfast ideas that aren't eggs that would be fab.

AnotherOtter · 26/01/2018 16:26

Just a quick post but Bored, how about full fat yoghurt? The diet and low fat ones have a lot of sugar in them. The low carb bootcamp people eat berries after their strict phase or could try vanilla powder (no sugar/alcohol version) or cinnamon.

Aph413 · 26/01/2018 22:07

I joined this thread a while back with best intentions but didn't even get off the starting line. I've started exercising in the last few weeks with the goal to keep up with my friend in her English channel swim goals.
Current weight 256lbs
Lbs to lose: 96.

No real plan for food. Just cut out my snacks because I'm an utter fiend for it.
Currently doing 1.5 to 3 miles of swimming a week. Will be adding couch to 5k to my inbetween days. I have a very sedentary job. I can do

honeysucklejasmine · 27/01/2018 07:15

Good idea bored.

I used to make a breakfast meatloaf to have. Lean pork mince, herbs, bacon, mushrooms, onions, chopped tomatoes etc, all mixed together and baked in a loaf tin. Then I would slice it and freeze, and just take some out freezer each night. Would sometimes serve with poached egg, or baked beans, or just ketchup.

honeysucklejasmine · 27/01/2018 07:17

Welcome aph. Sounds like you're doing great with the exercise, well done.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 27/01/2018 10:02

Quick post - back later! Only 1/2 lb off this week - not sure why, but going with it.

Lost this week: 0.5lb
To lose: 124 lbs
Lost to date: 39.5 lbs
Left to lose: 84.5 lbs
