Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017-18 - Part 3

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 27/09/2017 19:49

Hello, welcome to the third instalment of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017’ thread. As we’re getting closer to the end of 2017, I’ve added 2018 for good measure Smile

If you want to read them (but by no means feel obliged!), the first and second threads are here: Part 1 and here: Part 2

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and I think we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way Wink Collectively, we’ve lost 612 lbs since the start of the first thread, which is pretty amazing Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread, I will make one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals.

And with that, I'm off to spam our old thread to fill it up Grin

Welcome Mamma glad you found us! Great to hear it's going well for you so far.

My week is not going as planned, but I'm trying.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 18/01/2018 20:42

I'm hoping this cold weather means I'm shivering off a few more calories Grin

I think I'm set for a loss this week (had a hop on the scales this morning, but was joined by the cat before the numbers settled, so not entirely sure Hmm) We'll see come Saturday!

It's been a good week so far - have a chicken, tomato and assorted veg stew on the go, I think there's at least 7 portions of veg in it, I cleared out the fridge Grin It's really filling, I only had a small side plate of salad with it, and I'm feeling really content.

Hope you are all doing well - KOKO!

Hello all, just found this thread and would love to join in. Got stacks to lose but won’t start till Monday as have got a couple of night outs planned over this weekend. Will weigh myself on Monday at the chemist. I’m sure my bathroom scales will explode if I stand on it, really! You all seem to be a huge support to each other and very understanding. I don’t have anyone in RL to do this with. My DH keeps telling me I’m not big, fat or obese, which doesn’t help, even though he is being very sweet. Should ask him to pick me up and carry me off, that should change his mind for him 😂

AnotherOtter · 19/01/2018 15:45

You're right, Tractors, weight loss makes you re-evaluate your whole life when it's long term. Some folk with small amounts to lose can get away with a couple of months of temporary changes but us with larger amounts have to plod along so much longer that it has to be sustainable.

Moonlight, there is so much conflicting information about weight loss. I did science at university and some of the pseudoscientific explanations I read online are just ridiculous. We all know about fake news by now and it looks like weight loss information had a long head start. Glad you're finding the book helpful.

Eyes, if you feel that you need help with your eating then maybe a trip to the GP is a good idea. The NHS has a good page on eating disorders https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/eating-disorders/ When I saw a psychologist and a NHS dietitian for my eating disorders, they recommended 'Overcoming Binge Eating' by Dr Christopher Fairburn. A lot of NHS services are 'prescribing' that book now.

Welcome Mamma and Alba. Sounds like you both have solid plans Smile Are you in Scotland, Alba? If so, I hope you're not having the same hellish weather as me!

DespicableMeh · 19/01/2018 16:24

Afternoon all!

Thought I should join in on this now that I've actually made a start in losing some weight.

Weighed in this time last year at 341lbs ShockBlush I half heartedly started SW, but found it difficult because (a) I'm a lazy cow who needs a bit of competition and (b) my dh does all the cooking and shopping and wasn't onboard with the whole SW ethos.

To his credit he joined SW in Late July to support me and has lost about 2stone and is now at target. I've lost 4 stone and am a whisker away from my 4.5 stone award, which I'm hoping to get next Weds.

Am doing dry Jan, which has been a lot easier than I thought it would be - I am a big drinker and could easily do a full bottle of vodka in 2 nights BlushConfused. But, other than an event this weekend, I'm planning on staying alcohol free post Jan, unless there is a specific "big" occasion which would warrant being off plan for an evening.

Now that I've nailed the whole speed/hexa & b/free foods and no longer have the cravings for chocolate or crisps or takeaways, I'm working on portion control and am actually considering joining a gym, with my very skinny friend Grin. My job is very, very sedentary and I do need some motivation to actual move my arse on a regular basis.

I've lost a total of 11lbs over the last two weeks and am now down to 280.5lbs, which is still massive, but far less massive than before.

Good luck to everyone this year!

Welcome Mamma and Alba . Mamma food is the main thing to deal with, well your head in relationship to food I guess. Your roast sounds nice ! Definitely agree about thirst and hunger.

Chesty that made me Grin about the break up with food , so true. I have avoided most of the diet programs but did finally watch that old Horizon on the 5.2 which I thought was interesting.

NoTractors i’ve Just thrown out a bit of cheese that hadn’t got eaten. Had to give it up with gallbladder and managed to be pretty restrained now I can eat it which amazes me. I’m going to do some mug measuring with a chicken stew DD made yesterday . I think there’s just enough for DS and I but i’m going to measure and if there’s any left it’s going into the freezer.

Honey how are you feeling ?

Eyes sorry the week is not going to plan but trying really helps in the long term so sounds like a win to me.

AnotherOtter I can’t imagine being able to knock off the excess in a couple of months ! Determined though that when at maintenance i’m Bloody well staying there and if more than a couple of pounds go on and stay on then immediate action happening.

Did weighthis morning but did a 800 cal fast yesterday so thought maybe not a fair representation of the week so shall weigh tomorrow and use today’s if I don’t like tomorrow’s Grin

My waist to hip ratio is a bit shit. Trying to decide whether the fibroid is skewing things, hoping it does. Having said that I have been plugging on with a few Callanetics stomach exercises every so often and trying to do the Plank and I think that bit under my boobs might be very slightly shrinking. Just looking back at some of my old measurements, would really encourage people just starting to measure. So far i’ve lost 6.5 inches off my each of my thighs, 13.5 inches off my hips, 13 inches from stomach and 10 inches off chest.

ChestyNutsRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 19/01/2018 17:54

So I posted a thread in chat about my boils....no reply’s

Does anyone else suffer with boils? Mainly armpits and groin/muff area?
They’re so painful.

PostNotInHaste · 19/01/2018 18:03

Yes Chesty I do. Just off to supermarket so back later or in the morning to sympathise properly but they are bloody painful. And don't get me started on those barth thingy cysts.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 19/01/2018 21:00

Ouch, chesty! Have had one in the past and it was bloody painful, so I can sympathise.

Welcome Despicable and Alba - everyone is lovely here, it's why I started posting on the first thread Smile I find RL people don't quite understand it in the same way as others in the same boat.

I'm having another early night, which I'm quite delighted about - work was especially trying today, so a good night's sleep will do me the world of good (and means I won't nibble on the olives in the fridge Blush)

No boils but lots of pesky skin tags!!

AlbaChick · 19/01/2018 23:40

Thanks for the welcome No Tractors, Post & Eyes. What an achievement Despicable. I’ve got some skin tags too 😳

PostNotInHaste · 20/01/2018 07:07

Welcome Despicible, that’s brilliant you’ve done that much so far.

Chesty I get boils every so often and they do really hurt. I’m also a bit prone to Bartholin Cysts which are flipping excruciating at times. Seems to go through phases. No advice but lots of sympathy Flowers

Weight lost this week 1lb
Total lost 93lb
To lose 17lb

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 20/01/2018 10:22

PostNotInHaste · 20/01/2018 11:46

That’s really good news NoTractors, mug measuring works ! Nearly at the 40 pound mark.

Decided I’m going to have a go at 5.2 but starting on 800 cals for fast days. My Mum had Dementia so i’m Interested in the potential health benefits from it. Also found that a fast day sort of resets my appetite. I couldn’t have don3 it at the start but have over time found myself not eating after 6pm which works well for me and does kind of feed into 5.2

First Parkrun done since well before Christmas which was hard work but thankfully relatively dry.

Well done everyone!

Cripes I’m hungry today, the crunchie in the fridge is screaming my name Hmm

I’m seeing the nurse for a med check this week might have a chat bout the boils, wonder if it’s worth asking her to swab me for staph?

I may have just stuck a needle in one of the boils Blush

nurse 5 stone is an amazing achievement!

BreakingSad · 20/01/2018 18:20

Welcome Alba

Well done PostNot and Notractors

I've STS this week as well Notanurse, well done to keep on logging everything, even when you're not feeling it and 5 stone is a huge achievement.

Hope the boils clear up soon Chesty I've has a few and they can be so painful.

Ive upped my exercise and have been doing some weight for the last couple of weeks. Don't know if that has made me more hungry or just my hormones playing up as AF still hasn't arrived.

Hope you're all having a good weekend and KOKO

PostNotInHaste · 20/01/2018 19:10

Notanurse that sounds like a tricky week and I think you’ve done really well to get through it. I think i’d Lose my mojo a bit after that. I’m hoping that the fasting might mean I can relax the logging a bit on the other days. Bit of a long shot and if I have to log forever that’s fine and i’m nowhere near relaxing it a bit for the foreseeable future.

Great NSV with the train seat, I used to struggle with things like that too. I think things like that are helpful for making you realise how far you have come. It definitely takes time for your mental image to change and DH says that sometimes he forgets then looks at me and it hits him. I said on another thread some clothes came today and I looked and thought no way can I get into them but I could. Keep putting things into the DC’s clothes piles as in my head they are too small for me, still have yet to locate one pair !

Chesty ouch ! Will admit to getting DH to do that to my last one, the relief was substantial. Probably worth mentioning to the Nurse.

STS does the job nicely BreakingSad, sympathy on non arrival of AF. I think a change in exercise routine can result in a bit of a stall sometimes so might be partly that. Hopefully you have a woosh to look forward to in the near future.

Have had to buy lots of clothes recently. Everything for five pounds dot com is my new best friend!

MammaTJ · 20/01/2018 22:08

I've lost 2lbs, which is a bit disheartening. It was my first week and I have always lost loads in first week of dieting.

Having said that, I have always put it back on, so slower might mean it is for keeps.

PostNotInHaste · 20/01/2018 22:25

Just looking back at my first week’s loss, like you I used to lose a lot. This time week 1 was 1lb, week 2 was 3.5lb and week 3 was 1.5lb. Slowly but surely, sustainable changes are the name of the game. Well done on your loss.

ChestyNutsRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 21/01/2018 10:02

Loss this week- 3lb 8oz
Total- 40lbs
To lose- 60lbs

Very pleased this week, been a while since I had a good loss. Onwards and downwards Grin

PostNotInHaste · 21/01/2018 10:18

Go Chesty, what a result Grin

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 21/01/2018 11:19

Well done Mamma and Chesty - you pair of losers Grin

Online shopping done and meal plan completed for this week Halo

Still using up some mystery meals from the freezer, but only one disaster where I defrosted what I thought was a veg/lentil stew and was actually stewed apples Confused Blush

mama it’s been slower for me this time but slower sustainable changes means I’m still here a year later

Well done, 2lbs is great Star
