Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017-18 - Part 3

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 27/09/2017 19:49

Hello, welcome to the third instalment of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017’ thread. As we’re getting closer to the end of 2017, I’ve added 2018 for good measure Smile

If you want to read them (but by no means feel obliged!), the first and second threads are here: Part 1 and here: Part 2

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and I think we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way Wink Collectively, we’ve lost 612 lbs since the start of the first thread, which is pretty amazing Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread, I will make one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals.

And with that, I'm off to spam our old thread to fill it up Grin

We haven't had a total in a while - would anyone like an update? you aren't getting a choice

Since the start of Thread 1, we have lost a collective total of....

Star Star 723 lbs! That's nearly 52 stone! Star Star

Well done to everyone, that's really amazing! Grin

Wow Notractors that's fantastic. Here's to lots more lbs in 2018 Star

Had a weigh in this morning and STS so really happy with that over Christmas, as I've been maintaining.

Wishing you all a Happy New Year and looking forward to 2018 with you all.

PostNotInHaste · 29/12/2017 20:42

I was wondering about a total this morning NoTractors thanks so much for doing it and what a fantastic result !!

Well done BreakingSad , Happy New Year to you too and everyone else. Let's see what 2018 has in store for us all.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 29/12/2017 21:50

I thought we could do with a little pre-New Year inspiration Smile

I got my application in for the job - and have spotted another couple I'd like to apply for too! DCs are going to be with ex-H for the next week, so I'm going to get some things sorted out (or at the very least, some VERY specific to-do lists) in preparation for the New Year.

Hope you feel better soon Post - there are some seriously nasty bugs doing the rounds, and well done Breaking for STS - despite being fairly moderate, I haven't quite plucked up the courage to get on the scales yet! notanurse I'm very much joining you in a positive attitude for 2018 - go us!

That’s great NoTractors, what a positive note to end the year on Smile

Weigh in for me, up. A pound but given that i’m only a quarter of a pound from where I was when started maintaining for Christmas at the end of Nov and AF here, I count that as a success.

B1rdonawire · 30/12/2017 14:19

I've been lurking but want to join in please! Haven't dared step on the post-Christmas scales yet - Monday... Have no idea how it will go as had 23-26 Dec "off" but not crazy - but have just finished ten days of antibiotics so system is all over the place.

This is a lovely supportive group and you've all done so bloody well - it's fantastic!

Potted history:
Start: June 2017
Loss so far: 42lbs
Next goal: 6 more lbs and will then have lost equivalent of 6 yo DD!
End goal: 105lbs

PostNotInHaste · 30/12/2017 14:47

Welcome B1rdonawire and congratulations on your loss so far . Very impressive to have nearly lost the equivalent of your DD! Soberingly by the time I have finished I’ll have lost just over the weight of my adult DD.

ChestyNutsRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 31/12/2017 09:54

Have done the dreaded way in- 7lbs on Xmas Blush
To be fair I haven’t tried to maintain, I’ve eaten what I liked.

In all Florida and Christmas I’ve gained 12lb 12oz.

It’s done now though, pointless lamenting it.
Back at it today, have chucked all the festive left overs.

Quite looking forward to going back to normal.

Onwards and downwards!

Happy New Year everyone, here’s to a slimmer and healthier new year for us all Wine

AnotherOtter · 31/12/2017 10:48

Starting weight: 241 lb
Current weight: 171.4 lb
Loss this week: 1.2 lb
Total loss: 69.6 lb
To go: 31.4 lb

Gaun yerself Tractors with the new job plans Smile I did the budget overhaul too a few years back and really recommend it as it's so freeing (once you're over the pain in the arse set up). My two new year resolutions are to start a proper exercise routine running?! and look after my hair properly.

How are you feeling, Post? I hope you are over the worst of your bug. This is a terrible time of year for getting sick.

Welcome B1rdonawire! You've done so well already. I'm a relative newbie here too and this is such a supportive and friendly thread Smile

Good on you for getting on the scales, Chesty. I find that really tough after a period off the wagon. I think it's great that we are all finding our own paths as there is definitely no one 'right' way of losing weight. I keep getting frustrated that it's not predictable and linear but nothing is in life.

Great thread weight loss total! Thanks for adding that up for us, Tractors. Hope we have just as good a 2018. Happy New Year to you all!

PostNotInHaste · 31/12/2017 11:15

Well done for getting on Chesty . You know how quickly the time goes, it will be gone before you know it and you’ll have the satisfaction of knowing that you kept going to look back on later next year.

A loss this week AnotherOtter, brilliant! Might C25K feature in your 2018 then?!

Feeling a fair bit better today thanks. I’ve had flu twice in my life and whilst this wasn’t quite as bad it wasn’t far off and had all the symptoms. Still not at the resuming normal routine stage yet but I think end in sight. No exercise for a bit until much stronger.

B1rdonawire · 01/01/2018 10:17

Hope you feel properly better soon Post

Managed 1lb off today, which is a pleasant surprise. De-Christmas-ed the house last night ready for a fresh start to the year - took the opportunity to put all the choc tree decorations etc in DD's lidded snack box. Once I've mentally labelled stuff "not mine" it's much easier to forget. (She's not allowed to pillage at will, in case that makes me sound like a feeder! She's actually brilliant at checking herself and saying she's not hungry right now or has had enough - I should learn from her...)

honeysucklejasmine · 01/01/2018 10:31

Happy New Year everybody!

As of today I am officially back at it. Baby boy is now 14 weeks old and sleeping through, so I don't have the munchies at 3am excuse. I am breastfeeding so do have the hunger, but no longer going to use it as an excuse to make bad choices.

DS has CMPA so I'm not eating dairy. I did SW before - does anyone know how HexA choices work if you're dairy free? I drink oat milk in tea but don't bother with cheese substitutes because they are rank. Will have a Google but thought I'd ask here too.

I'm super excited to get going. You ladies who have been at it all year are so inspirational, I want to do what you've done.

So... Stats. I like to remember what my high point was last year, post baby #1. So i remember I've already managed to lose some and have no excuse not to lose more. 😊

Weight at start: 270lbs
had a baby
Weight Jan 2018: 254lbs
Target: 168lbs
To reach target: 86lbs

DD is almost two and a bundle of energy so going to commit to going on a walk every day - if nothing else it's a good way of getting her to sleep and stopping her trashing my house 😂

We're having the garden landscaped and a conservatory built in next two months so garden will be out of bounds - even more reason to get out and about.

Good luck everyone. :-)

PostNotInHaste · 01/01/2018 11:12

Happy New Year my fellow big losers!

Well done B1rdonawire. There are stillChristmas bits in the cupboard here. Think I might freeze a pack of mince pies . Scales went down for me this morning but suspect it’s temporary so am ignoring for now.

How brilliant that you are 16lbs down Honeysuckle and had a baby!

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 01/01/2018 12:28

Happy New Year all! Smile

I went to bed early and sober last night, so I'm annoyingly bright and perky this morning.

I'm excited to get cracking this year - January is going to be a frugal month as the freezer is groaning with frozen veg and frozen leftovers (all healthy and well portioned, surprisingly) so I'm making it January's resolution (along with all my others!) to use that up. I'm also doing Dry January - I don't drink during the week anyway, but figure it can't hurt to knock the weekend wine on the head for the foreseeable future.

Grin

Glad you're on the mend, Post. Rubbish time of year for getting ill. I am seriously considering C25K and very inspired by your thread. Not sure about the practicalities of running in the Scottish winter though! So possibly home HIIT til spring then running? I remember you saying you were considering weight training for the new year. What does that involve exactly? Gym only? How do you get started?

Great progress, B1rdonawire. Your DD sounds like she has excellent eating habits and I aspire to those too.

You sound really positive, Honeysuckle, and your plans make a lot of sense to me. I am lactose intolerant and so can eat lactofree dairy but have also tried a lot of the dairy-free substitutes available nowadays. I'd say don't write them all off as while some are definitely minging, some are actually pretty tasty. Sainsbury's do a huge range now. They also do a Coconut Collaboration chocolate ganache pot which is dairy free and 105 calories which I love for a treat.

I was also sober for the bells, Tractors, and quite enjoying being so fresh while everyone else is suffering Grin

AnotherOtter · 01/01/2018 13:18

Also meant to say, I took the advice of taking measurements and I'm really glad I did. I do bust, waist and hips on the 1st of the month and you can track waist and hips in the Progress tab of the MyFitnessPal app. WhenI look down, I see little change in my body but it's obviously my brain not processing the images properly (apparently that is common) as I have lost a lot of inches. Measurements are another way to track progress and I think it's good for my motivation to diversify from the scales a bit.

honeysucklejasmine · 01/01/2018 13:29

Thanks Post. I had got down to about 24lb loss, so have gained something from this baby. I'd like to get back to that point and then go further.

AnotherOtter I've tried a few of the Sainsbury's cheeses with mixed results. I like most of the Oatly range and most dairy free spreads are ok. Christmas has been hard - beautiful cheeseboards, ripe brie, baked camembert... And none for me. Even finding a turkey in budget that wasn't pre basted in butter was a challenge. Hopefully he'll grow out of it. I've developed a bit of a thing for Aldis dark chocolate, because a lot of their flavours are dairy free naturally. Oops. Need to cut back then cut out.

honeysucklejasmine · 01/01/2018 13:30

Think I will do measurements too - I did it before and it is really helpful, you're right.

PostNotInHaste · 01/01/2018 16:22

Grin at the NY perkiness and skipping.

AnotherOtter if you would like me to I’d be very happy to support you through C25K when the time comes? The key is to go very very very very slowly. The sort of slowly where dogwalkers are over taking you to start with. And you learn that it’s often your mind holding you back not your body after the first bit. See your point about Scottish winters ! I’m not entirely sure yet about the weight training. Part of me thinks I should bite the bullet and join the gym. The other part would rather do something from Home. I have a kettlebell and a few weights and need to work out what to actually do with them ...

Does anyone remember Callanetics? I’ve started doing the waist whittler exercise and think it is starting to make a small difference, possibly. Am thinking of getting the book and maybe trying some more.

Honeysuckle I still think you’re doing brilliantly. Before you know it you’ll be back to 24lbs and then beyond. I find the measurements very helpful and also get that th8mg when I don’t seem smaller in my mind sometimes.

BreakingSad · 01/01/2018 17:16

Happy New Year everyone

Just done my stats for the year, more so for my benefit to keep a record of it. Slower than I'd like but still 30 lbs light that this time last year Smile*
*
Total to lose - 113
Lost before 01/01/17 - 23 lbs
Total left to lose on 01/01/17 - 90 lbs
Total lost on the 01/01/18 - 53 lbs
Total for 2017 loss 30 lbs

Good idea about measurements AnotherOtter I kept forgetting to do that and 1st of the month sounds a good plan and well done on the loss.

Welcome B1rdonawire and good job on the loss

PostNot I remember Callanetics, never had a go though. Don't know if you go on Pinterest, but you'll find loads on weight and strength training programs on there, if you want some inspiration.

I'm excited like you Notractors to get cracking at it Grin

So I completely failed when I went back to day shifts. Put all but 13lbs on. Which is utterly embarrassing.

I have 113 days until I go to Barcelona.
I want to have lost 42 lbs by then. 19 weeks makes it 2.2lbs per week.

Walking to and from work will be my main form of exercise. 5 miles per day, 5 days per week.

Starting weight - 267.

Cultofpersonality · 01/01/2018 20:42

Sorry double post.

Forgot to add- any money I don’t spend on buses to and from work will be taken on holiday with me. So a small incentive to get my butt moving and walking more.
I have a brolly and boots so rain shouldn’t be used as an excuse!

YorkshireLurker · 01/01/2018 20:43

Hi everyone!

I'm finally plucking up the courage to lose 100lb this year! I lost 50 a couple of years ago but a stressful year means I gained most of it back
cry

But we are where we are and I now need to lose 110lb!

Do you mind if I join you all? :) x

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 01/01/2018 21:26

Welcome Yorkshire - we're very happy to have you Smile and welcome back Cult, sounds like you've got a good action plan sorted!

I've done well today - but I'm off to bed in a few minutes in case I've jinxed myself! Have set a reminder to take measurements and look up callanetics tomorrow - I'm trying to be a more organised Tractors this year Wink
