Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017-18 - Part 3

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 27/09/2017 19:49

Hello, welcome to the third instalment of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017’ thread. As we’re getting closer to the end of 2017, I’ve added 2018 for good measure Smile

If you want to read them (but by no means feel obliged!), the first and second threads are here: Part 1 and here: Part 2

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and I think we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way Wink Collectively, we’ve lost 612 lbs since the start of the first thread, which is pretty amazing Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread, I will make one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals.

And with that, I'm off to spam our old thread to fill it up Grin

Hello Ummalaak - welcome aboard! You're brave starting the week before Christmas, but you're getting a head start on all of those who are putting weight loss off until January! Do you have a plan in mind?

I'm not having a good day - a 140g bag of peanut M&Ms have disappeared into my gob Xmas Shock Utter gluttony, there's no need for it - and now I feel woozy with sugar and a bit sick Xmas Envy. Still fighting off my cold and my work inbox, but the end is in sight! Xmas Grin

Ummalaak · 18/12/2017 21:06

Thanx alot, hope i get motivated in here.
Well the only plan i have in my mind now is to cut of sugar intake. I love sugary food which is the source of my mysery and the worth scenario is i am a dessert maker. I can fix you a dessert in 15 min. Gosh that is what kills me Sad

AnotherOtter · 20/12/2017 16:25

Welcome Ummalaak Smile

How is everyone getting on?

How is the cold, Tractors? I hope you are feeling better and work isn't too horrific.

Well done on the half stone milestone, Moonlight!

I don't tell people exact numbers of how much weight I've lost either, Notanurse, and I've noticed that some really want to know. I'm a bit obsessive over numbers so I wonder if they are too but it seems to me that they want something to hang their judgement on, if that makes sense. People in general are very over-invested in what others eat and weigh. I don't believe for a second that they are "just concerned about your health". Making comments and being judgmental is not how you show concern, it's how you put others down. Okay, I'm ranting now so will stop!

Hope everyone's Christmas plans are going well. I am, for reasons I don't understand, having my bathroom ceiling replaced three days before Christmas. With a full house. Best time of year for it really Wink

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 20/12/2017 18:28

That sounds like the road to madness AnotherOtter!

I'm still struggling with my cold, but there are so many bugs going round at work, I wouldn't be surprised if I've picked up another one whilst fighting off this one. Fewer peanut M&Ms eaten though, so that's a positive!

I've also had the number question - I think it's a bit like the threads you see on here about alcohol intake. People always make comparisons in relation to themselves, and use it to judge or make excuses about their own behaviour "I can't be that bad, that poster drinks 12 billion units a week" - same with food, I think. Some people get scared when their friend stops drinking, others get a bit strange when their fat friend starts to change. Humans are just odd. Xmas Wink

Welcome Ummalaak could you Chanel your culinary efforts into savoury things or desserts with less sugar?

Glad end in sight in cold Notractors . We're all going down with something I think.

One good thing about this time of year is people are too busy to worry about their weight so much so a bit of a breather on the comments I'm finding. Brave time for the ceiling AnotherOtter!

Great effort for December Moonlight!

Chesty welcome home, that went very quickly !

NotaNurse a friend recommended 'Natural solutions to the menopause' by Marilyn Grenville which is good so far. Fingers crossed you sail through it. I have a theory that large weight loss can get things going having seen a study where higher BMI linked to later menopause.

Muddling through the week aiming for another STS. Have a Christmas party tomorrow so need to keep a lid on that then Friday needs to be a light day to end the week at zero so to speak. Haven't bothered weighing myself but figure if I keep on logging food all should come good.

PostNotInHaste · 21/12/2017 15:49

Scan today. Fibroid now 8cm and is why I wee for the UK which was nice to have a reason for. Guy who did it is going to recommend to GP that they refer me. Am wondering what 2018 will bring but so relieved that this time there won't be an issue about BMI being too high to be referred.

AnotherOtter · 21/12/2017 16:14

Sorry to hear that your fibroid has grown, Post. Well done for looking at the silver lining that you don't have to worry about your weight if you need surgery, though there are many medical options before that. I remember you working so hard before your gall bladder operation. Wasn't the surgeon mean to you too? It's never nice to have to get involved with the medical profession! I hope you are feeling okay about it all Thanks

Tractors, your explanation reminds me of the saying that you only have an alcohol problem if you drink more than your doctor Wink I hope your cold fucks off soon and not via the children!

PostNotInHaste · 21/12/2017 17:45

Thanks AnotherOtter. Surgeon was how shall we put it, direct about the need to continue with weight loss not long after I came round! I think he sees lots of people pile the weight back on. I'm OK about it, could do with out it but it is what it is and will be good to see what my options are.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 22/12/2017 20:59

Post 8cm is massive Shock Must be such a comfort to know your BMI is one less issue to be concerned with. Hope you've enjoyed your party!

I'm signing off for a few days, so wishing you all a lovely festive time! [santa] Xmas Smile disappears into mound of wrapping paper

Thank you Tractors. Have a very lovely Christmas and will 'see' you on the other side!

Just weighed, maintenance month going well so far. Hope you're all ok and the pre Christmas madness not too bad.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 23/12/2017 07:16

Hi all! As I’m sure you can tell from the lack of whinging on this thread, I took a little break!

I haven’t weighed myself but several outfits are definitely looser then they were before which is nice!

It’s been a really awful few weeks and I’ve barely kept my head above the surface never mind concentrated on losing weight! But once I’m over this hideous lurgy I’ve got And Christmas is over then I’m ready to start afresh.

Thank you so much for everyone’s support, you’re all wonderful! Have a very merry Christmas! X

It will work NotaNurse! And if you do put on a couple of pounds or so, then will come off again. ://www.sainsburys.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/gb/groceries/cadbury-medium-santa-selection-box-235g?langId=44&storeId=10151&krypto=lQ8VSiCbkQrWysSLFBhkYzw7vm2IMDSw6cqt676Do9JE2Dkt4QOxHaUKsjsgE%2B0kGljLMeNaF1KdIoKHU%2B%2B00%2FRh7RTzJ6XdsXxQS0GQ1838etH5IB1UIOhjAKS8d2PQ&ddkey=https%3Agb%2Fgroceries%2Fcadbury-medium-santa-selection-box-235g . This selection box ? If so about 875 cals I think, not a huge deal in the scheme of things. Can imagine it made you feel quite rough though, sympathies!

AnotherOtter · 24/12/2017 11:17

Starting weight: 241 lbs
Current weight: 172.6 lbs
Total loss: 68.4 lbs
Loss this week: 1.8 lbs
To go: 32.6 lbs

Surprisingly good week for me weight-wise as the actual week was very stressful. As you predicted, getting the bathroom ceiling replaced right before Christmas might be problematic. Fuck that, never again! I do not recommend that 'diet'.

You are being very sensible, Post, about the fibroid news. It's never nice to get bad medical news. I hope your family are being supportive too Thanks

Great to see you back, Lego Smile But sorry to hear how hard things have been for you. I hope it all settles down soon.

I find maintenance really tough too, Notanurse. I am very lucky in a way that I can't eat a lot of the Christmas 'treats' as I am lactose intolerant. Not that that stopped me sometimes which never ended well. Think the same thing applies in maintenance as when dieting/restricting: when things don't go as planned, learn from it then put it behind you and move on. Like Post says, a little weight may go on but it'll also come off again. We're all in this for the long term after all.

Merry Christmas to you all Xmas Smile Hope you all have a great time!

ChestyNutsRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 24/12/2017 17:29

1lb 8oz lost this week Grin

Merry Christmas everyone and Thankyou for supporting me this year. Here’s to a slimmer 2018 for us all Wine

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 26/12/2017 19:09

Hello all, hope you've had a very merry couple of days! [santa] Xmas Smile

I'm relatively pleased with how I've handled my food intake - a couple of large portions, but I've kept things pretty uncer control. There's now very little in the way of festive treats in the house, bar some selection boxes (which I won't eat, as I'm not a chocolate person) - so I'm ready to start reining myself back in. Really excited to finally do this in 2018 - it's going to be so worth it!

OP posts:
PostNotInHaste · 26/12/2017 20:34

Well done everyone! Hope you've all had a good time. Impressed most of your festive treats have gone NoTractors, we seem to have loads still. I've eaten a lot but controlled it reasonably well I think.

Usually would stuff myself with Christmas pudding but actually sliced it into the correct number of servings and haven't had any today as usually would. Managed a couple of long dog walks which have helped things.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 26/12/2017 20:45

I really cut back on what was bought this year Post and seemed to hit on the right amount with luck more than anything Xmas Wink We have not suffered from it at all, so I'm hoping to get it down to fine art next year!

We were going to go on a long walk, but had enough snow last night to do some sledging today - seemed a shame to waste it! Xmas Grin A very lovely time was had by all - and I think going up hills dragging a sledge burns considerable calories Xmas Wink

OP posts:
PostNotInHaste · 27/12/2017 08:06

Tractors you have snow, how lovely !

AnotherOtter · 27/12/2017 12:46

The sledging sounds great, Tractors Smile We only got a dusting plus ice. Definitely uses a lot of energy going up the hill over and over trying to keep your footing.

Christmas went pretty well with me other than a total cock-up with pudding so we had none. The DC had random fruit. I tried a new tactic this year and basically copied what my lifelong size 8 sister ate. She was hosting on Christmas day plus a lot of other meals (the visiting relatives are staying with me) and I used to think she served very stingy portions on ridiculously small plates. After my months of calorie counting, I've realised that these are actually the suggested portions! I didn't really think much about food at all. Had my mince pie a day as I like them but my family doesn't really do much in the way of Christmassy snacks like stollen. I don't drink at all because of my medication so dodged that too. All pretty sedate! Other than the raging argument with my father... I saw a poster on another thread say she was in tears over missing out on Christmas food due to dieting but I don't feel like at all. I feel like I am making progress in really changing my eating habits. I bet I sound really boring but pfft Grin

Do you folks do New Year resolutions? I only had one for this year which was get to my goal weight which I didn't manage. Think I will branch out this year.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 27/12/2017 20:43

Yes, a wee bit of snow - enough for a bit of sledging, but the grass is looking much more visible now! It's frozen now, so some of the white stuff will hang about for a bit Xmas Wink - might make my journey to work a bit more interesting than I would otherwise like!

My New Year resolution is to give my life an overhaul: new job (spotted one this evening I will apply for, very brave!), new body (doubling my weight-loss efforts) and getting my budget under control. It's been a steep learning curve with the last two, but I feel that this is my time to do it. Xmas Grin

OP posts:
PostNotInHaste · 28/12/2017 08:18

Please spread that over here! I've gone down with a bug and had a raging temperature yesterday. It's broken today I think but still feel rough. Those are great resolutions to have, a new job sounds very exciting ! I've found life much less stressful now I have refined my budget spreadsheets and they work properly.

BreakingSad · 28/12/2017 22:03

You all have been very proactive this Christmas. I have enjoyed it without the need to go crazy. Had a very quiet Christmas (just how I like it) it's been nice to have the time off and to relax.

I hope you get better soon PostNot and hope they get the fibroid sorted out soon.

Good luck on the job front Notractors and so jealous of the snow, we never get any.

It is surprising AnotherOtter how normal portion sizes will fill me up, yet look so small, weighing the food definitely helps me with correct portion sizes.

Agree on how small portions look but finding the smaller plate thing helps.

NotaNurse I think you've done incredibly well to keep going this year through not the easiest of times. It is lovely going into next year with a chunk of weight gone, makes a very pleasant change! And the whole eating lots, not exercising and feeling shit thing is a good reminder of how we all felt before.

Falling to pieces here, got that flu like virus thing plus AF turned up. At least it does mean can actually lie around and take the time to recover.

Took advantage of the sales to order a couple of trousers for next summer in smaller size. One might be a touch optimistic it must be said !
