Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017-18 - Part 3

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 27/09/2017 19:49

Hello, welcome to the third instalment of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017’ thread. As we’re getting closer to the end of 2017, I’ve added 2018 for good measure Smile

If you want to read them (but by no means feel obliged!), the first and second threads are here: Part 1 and here: Part 2

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and I think we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way Wink Collectively, we’ve lost 612 lbs since the start of the first thread, which is pretty amazing Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread, I will make one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals.

And with that, I'm off to spam our old thread to fill it up Grin

Welcome YorkshireLurker jump aboard

Back to the daily grind tomorrow, which I'm strangely looking forward to Grin

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 02/01/2018 01:06

Hi all! I’ve been really unwelland fucking miserable for the last three weeks and it’s just today I’m starting to feel a bit human again!

I think I need to give myself a few days grace and be a bit gentle with myself! I’m hoping to finally join the gym this weekend-I’ve been waiting for the New Years offers they normally do but no such luck this year!

Well done to everyone who’s off to a great start and I’ll see you next week! Here’s to a really fucking successful 2018 Wine

swlondonnanny · 02/01/2018 11:27

Happy New Year everyone!
Sorry for being MIA, am back now.
Managed to weigh in today (108.3 kg)
More than a few mnths ago but last 4mnth the weight seems to go up and down the same 3-4kgs.
2017 was a very stressful year for me (with my DH surgery and complications related to it and very slow recovery)
Here is to a better 2018 Grin.
I take today as a day one of week one of this year's weight loss. Don't have any plans /goals, will just try to stick to it and will see what happens
Just to recap 2017. Started mid march at 138.5kg and BMI of around 43. Lost 30kg (66lb) since than and current BMI is around 33. Clothes definitely fit nicer and had loads of compliments over Christmas.
The MBT boots I bought in September were a good investment, used them nearly daily and they are helping with toning up a lot (my sister commented that I have no tummy anymore!!!! I wish... but was pleasant to hear that)
Happy and successful 2018 everyone!!! Smile

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 02/01/2018 18:41

Hello swlondonnanny and lego - it's lovely seeing everyone popping up on the thread again Smile

Had a good day today - I'm back to work tomorrow, and I'm already not looking forward to alarm going off in the morning Blush However, I have a tasty salad made, so at least that's something to look forward to and the walk there and back will do me good.

2018 is going well so far, hope it is for you all too!

I think I only have one mini chocolate bar left after the one I just scoffed. I won't be buying any more. Eeep.

Cultofpersonality · 02/01/2018 22:23

Fell over and hurt my ankle- not broken, just quite swollen and sore- but I still managed to walk the 2.5 miles home. In the horrible rain to boot.

There’ll be no excuses for busing it to work now!

B1rdonawire · 02/01/2018 22:36

That's hardcore Cult - you're unstoppable! Hope the ankle recovers fast Smile

I've found today hard going - real battle not to reach for snacks aaaaallll afternoon when stuck inside due to lashing rain, playing endless board games with restless children. Back to work tomorrow - good luck to everyone in the same boat!

moonlight1705 · 03/01/2018 10:21

Happy New Year to you all!

My holiday was obviously too good as I put on 3lb Sad.....still over the Christmas, I bought a book called 'The Obesity Code' which is a fascinating read (someone on MN recommended it). Its all about how insulin is the cause of weight gain - I won't try to explain it here but I'm giving its advice a go this year.

This morning's breakfast was different, to start I took it to work (I start at 7.30am so hard to eat before) and it was those overnight oats with blueberries - delicious!!!

AnotherOtter · 03/01/2018 11:48

Welcome Yorkshire and welcome back Cult and swlondonnanny.

Post, that is a very kind offer of help with the C25K and I will definitely take you up on it in the spring Smile Going to do some form of HIIT till then, once I'm over my current cold. Did a little of Insanity with my sister... it's goddamn hard and too much for me at the moment. So going to try level 1 Shred or beginners Joe Wicks three times a week and see how I get on. Did the Joe Wicks HIIT when I was manic in 2016 and it was tough and boring even then so who knows what it'll be like with my current mood. Can only try!

Hope your ankle is better soon, Cult.

Great to see everyone so positive!

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 03/01/2018 20:34

Anyone see Tom Kerridge on BBC2 this evening? I knew he had lost a lot of weight, but didn't realise it was 12 stone, that's certainly some inspiration!

Today has been a bit of a struggle - I didn't get a break for lunch at work, so ended up with a 24 hour fast Blush. I was ravenous by the time I got home and a bit of a headache now, which I think is related. Still kept to what I had planned for dinner, and lunch will keep for tomorrow, but not an exercise I want to repeat. Lesson learned for tomorrow and Friday!

honeysucklejasmine · 03/01/2018 22:52

Evening all.

Tractors 12 stone!! Is it really? Gosh, had no idea it was so much. That's amazing!

Had my last mini chocolate bar today. Hopefully that's temptation out of the way now. Time to find out if being dairy free will make a difference.

Cult do make sure you don't exacerbate your ankle injury - sometimes sprains and breaks can seem similar in terms of pain experienced.

PostNotInHaste · 05/01/2018 07:13

Quick WI results back later.

Lost this week 3.5lb
Loss to date. 91.25lb
To lose 18.75lb

Don’t think this week’s loss will stay, is sick loss,

honeysucklejasmine · 05/01/2018 08:42

Congratulations Post. I know you say you don't think it'll stick, but looks at those numbers! 91 lbs! 91! How incredible is that?! Even if I does drop to 88lbs again, bloody hell, that's hugely impressive. I'm not sure I could even lift 88lbs, and yet my poor skeleton is hauling it around every day. What an amazing achievement it is to lose that much!

I'm honestly in awe of you lot, you've done so much since this thread started!

BreakingSad · 05/01/2018 09:18

Hope you're on the mend now PostNot and like Honey said you've done fantastically.

Weigh in for me and 1 lb down, so 58 lbs left to lose.

Saw on another thread about walking 1000 miles challenge, I can't quite get to that (2.75 miles a day), but I thought I'd do a 365 mile challenge, 1 mile a day. I do lots of small walks throughout the day but not one long brisk walk, it's going well so far.

Thank you all! I am very proud of myself, still can’t quite believe it sometimes. I’m fine if a bit goes back on as now firmly believe I am going to get to goal. Feels a lot better finally today which is a relief and have an appointment with Consultant next month.

BreakingSad that is very very good progress and you are very close to your halfway point which is a major milestone, well done on the pound this week. The 365 mile challenge sounds like a great idea.

CultofPersonality, you haven’t failed and you are nearly a stone down which if you pick up that weight is far from trivial. I do think it’s important not to beat yourself up about what has happened before and draw a line under it. It’s hard to get back on it but by doing so you’re ahead of the game as you did before you had put it all back on plus more, which is the usual pattern and something i’m Sure we can all relate to. Really sorry the year has started with your ankle though and best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Welcome to Yorkshirelurker, good to have you on board.

Tractors chick some of that organisational mojo this way please ! 24 hour fast sounds very tough, can totally see why you wouldn’t want to repeat that !

Hi Lego, really sorry to hear you have been unwell. Sensible to be gentle starting back to give yourself enough time to recover.

Good to see you again SWLondonNanny. I hope 2018 is calmer for you. That is a lot to have lost in 9.5 months, greatstart to 2018.

Moonlight 3lbs is not a lot in the grand scheme of things. Overnight oats are surprisingly tasty I have found to my surprise!

AnotherOtter give me a shout when you’re ready. I don’t think I could cope with insanity and the Shred is going to be too hard on my knees I think.

Honeysuckle, really hope dairy free does help. I don’t think I could lift 88lbs either, certainly puts it in perspective.

NotaNurse don’t worry about what the scales say. Definitely part of the learning process to put on over Christmas and holidays. It’s the getting back to it that is the important thing. Think I read that the average weight gain is 2lbs at Christmas and it is the not dealing with it each year that is a big factor in ‘middle age spread’ The gym sounds like a very good price. Look forward to seeing you back tomorrow but no I must do better post - go back to the start of the last thread and see how far you have come in 2017.

Lovely we’re all feeling positive. Will be interesting to see if we have a March slump again this year.

Anyone else out there who would like to join in? Smile

honeysucklejasmine · 05/01/2018 16:51

I'm seeing my wonderful lupus consultant for the last time in March. We've moved house but made an appointment just in case my new referral didn't come through quick enough. Sure enough, it's not until late July, so I'll make to trek across the country to see him. I'd like to end on a "look, I'm finally losing the weight" like he's suggested I do for a while now. (My weight doesn't make my condition worse, but it wouldn't hurt to lose it of course) So, long winded way of saying "no March slump for me I hope!"

Jayne0304 · 05/01/2018 16:59

Hi all, can I join!? I am maintaining a 7 stone weight loss from 10 years ago, but at the time my target was to go from a size 26/28 and get into 'normal' clothes, which I managed and have stuck at a size 16 for 10 years now. Last year I found I had gone up about a stone and a dress size and that stone actually makes me feel more sluggish then I can ever remember an extra 7 making me feel! So I rejoined SW this morning and want to lose about 4-5 stone this time and hopefully get to a size 12/14. I'm renewing my wedding vows in October, so feels like a good incentive, I know where you have all been but also want to tell you it IS achievable!

PostNotInHaste · 05/01/2018 18:00

Welcome Jayne! What a great loss to have maintained for that length of time and how lovely to have your vows renewal as a target. Can you pinpoint a reason why the weight started to go on after all that time?

Honeysuckle that will be a good note to finish on. Hopefully no March slump for any of us!

eyeswideshit · 05/01/2018 20:10

I'm a tad late to the party. Hope you don't mind me joining. Hoping this might keep me going longer than I've managed in the past!

Started 1/1. Plan is 16:8, calorie count and cut down on takeaways. (I definitely have a take away addiction). I'm also trying to walk at least 3 miles a day as I have been totally inactive.

Going ok so far though I've been struggling today as I've just come on and all I want is chocolate and carbs. Managing to resist so far though let's not mention the brownie for dinner

Starting weight 284lbs
Goal weight 140lbs

AnotherOtter · 05/01/2018 21:18

Bloody hell, a 24 hour fast, Tractors?! I would have caused WWIII! Well done for sticking to your planned food despite it.

That's brilliant that you've hit 90lbs off now, Post! Congratulations!

Well done Breaking on the loss too and I like your idea of a walking challenge. I'm a bit of a nerd about numbers and find that kind of thing motivating. I love when the fitbit app goes all green.

Good luck with your weigh in tomorrow, Notanurse. Hopefully won't be as bad as you fear and even if it is, it'll come off again. It is a learning curve. If you decide on the gym, please post about your experiences here as I'm sure I'm not alone in not really knowing what people do in gyms or how to start. Sounds a very good price.

That's a really nice way of saying goodbye to a treasured doctor, Honey. I'm sure he will be chuffed.

Wow Jayne, maintaining a seven stone loss for ten years is phenomenal! How did you do it? Did you follow a plan or do some kind of monitoring? Welcome to the thread Smile

AnotherOtter · 05/01/2018 21:21

Crosspost with eyes. Welcome to the thread! Sounds like you have a good plan in place. I cut right back on takeaways too and, while it was tough at times, it has helped hugely. Plus saved a lot of money!

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 06/01/2018 10:59

Welcome eyes and Jayne Smile!

I've braved the scales, and while I know I've been up and down a bit over the festive period, I'm still half a pound down from when I last weighed, so I'm taking that as a win Grin. I've been in this range for a while, so the initial aim is to hit 40lbs lost by end of Jan, and go onwards and downwards from there. I'm sticking to Dry Jan too - I only tend to drink on a Friday or Saturday, but it's just not worth the extra calories. Considering dropping caffeine during the week too as I'm a bit of an anxious sort, and I think that's a contributing factor.

Lost this week: 0.5lb
To lose: 124 lbs
Lost to date: 36 lbs
Left to lose: 88 lbs

Welcome Eyes!

Well done Tractors, great to see a loss at this time of year. I can’t be doing wit( drink8ngmany of my calories.

So NotaNurse, about those 4lbs you were going to gain .... Grin

I think possibly the unexpected losses (mine is also one of them) is something to do with eating at maintenance then starting up again and getting a whoosh as water goes again. Eating at maintenance is supposed to be good at resetting hormone levels so something we allegedly benefit from doing every so often, I can definitely live with that!

Finally watched the original 5.2 Horizon program last night which was very interesting.
