Hello, welcome to the third instalment of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017’ thread. As we’re getting closer to the end of 2017, I’ve added 2018 for good measure Smile

If you want to read them (but by no means feel obliged!), the first and second threads are here: Part 1 and here: Part 2

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and I think we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way Wink Collectively, we’ve lost 612 lbs since the start of the first thread, which is pretty amazing Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread, I will make one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals.

And with that, I'm off to spam our old thread to fill it up Grin

Welcome Ghost. Well done on having started. I'm so sorry it's feeling hard right now and I hope tomorrow's session with the dietician goes well. Let us know how it goes when you have a minute.

Lego you're not failing, you've already taken a number of positive steps. Some people take a very direct route with weight loss and others have a more up and down route. It really doesn't matter which it is as you get to the same place at the end. The important thing is to keep on keeping on and very slowly over time the changes you make will start to become less strange and gradually more familiar until they become habits. Your annoyance at not getting to 10k steps the other day shows that already you are thinking in a different way, not all the time but we're talking changing very engrained habits and patterns of thinking, that takes time and there will be set backs.

Was talking to a friend this evening who is a Pilates teacher as thinking of having a go and she said she thinks I'll really benefit as the wight loss will have thrown my posture out and she noticed when we walked recently I'm a bit weak somewhere which she said is very common amongst those of us who have boobs of doom. Scan date through for a couple of weeks time so that's good.

Hercy · 08/12/2017 10:49

Morning all.
I'm still KOKO. The scales haven't budged in a week, which I'm hoping is just bloat because on calories in v out, I should have definitely lost something!! Fingers crossed I will get a whoosh soon.

My dog was a little limpy this morning, so I cut his walk short. He has what the vet called 'traumatic arthritis' and he's prone to flare ups, but for the most part he's fine. Think I will have to cut the walks for a few days and then review. Not good news for my step count and it's never nice to see the dog not 100%. I don't need another reason to stress as I'm currently waking daily at 3/4am due to work stess!!

Hercy · 09/12/2017 08:34

Morning all. Had a little whoosh this morning -2lbs bringing me to 40lbs lost total. Hope others are doing well, it's hard at this time of year!

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 09/12/2017 10:37

Well done Hercy!

I'm down half a pound, which I'll take Smile

Lost this week: 0.5lb
To lose: 124 lbs
Lost to date: 35.5 lbs
Left to lose: 88.5 lbs

BreakingSad · 09/12/2017 16:09

Well done on the whoosh Hercy and I hope your dog recovers quickly.
Any loss is a still a loss Notractors well done.

Me I've put on 1 lb, not had a great week, 3 evenings out and can't seem to shake this cold I've had for weeks. Not sure if my wisdom tooth is playing up as well, blocked ear and glands up one side of my face, also I've had very little exercise this week, which doesn't help.

Too much to do over the next few weeks, so I'll keep on keeping on.

PostNotInHaste · 10/12/2017 10:07

Well done Hercy, hope your dog improves soon though. Lack of sleep is hideous and crap for weight loss, my sympathies.

NoTractors well done on the loss. BrakingSad hope you feel better very soon, don't need that on top of the business this time of year brings.

I'm up 1.5 to 2lbs but have been tracking so know it isn't fat, either fluid or the fast days I did previously gave me an artificially low reading. I'm KOKOing and gearing myself up to launch into a new exercise regime next year as am too cardio based now and need some strength exercise and flexibility apparently. Ordered some supplements and am reading a book on Menopause, thought I'd better get properly informed. Oh the joys !

AnotherOtter · 10/12/2017 12:23

Starting weight: 241lbs
Current weight: 175.2lbs
Loss this week: 3lb
Total loss: 65.8lb
To go: 35.2lb

Inexplicable week for me as had a whoosh with two days of maintenance. I don't understand how this works as a few weeks ago I had every day go to plan and still gained 0.4lb. I am grateful but confused! Thanks for the kind words about my BMI good news earlier in the week. This thread is so lovely Smile

Hercy and Post, what a terrible time you are having with your cycles. Urgh, sounds so frustrating and disruptive to normal life. How come that when half the population goes through decades of periods and then menopause that there aren't much better treatments? I'm gearing up for another down with men rant... Will just say, it's not fair and I hope things improve for you both soon Thanks

How are you doing Moonlight and Lego after things not going to plan earlier in the week? Hope you've managed to put it behind you but even if not yet, try to keep positive and keep posting.

How did you get on at the dietician, Ghost?

Well done on your losses Hercy and Tractors and well done to everyone who is KOKO despite everything Thanks

moonlight1705 · 10/12/2017 16:11

Wooooo I weighed today and my bad lunch wasn't too bad at all. I lost 2.5lb Grin

Week 4 loss: 2.5lb
Total loss: 6.5lb

Going to get half a stone next week as long as I don't get too cold and scoff all the nice cakes I've just made.

moonlight1705 · 10/12/2017 16:45

Welsh honey and spice cakes.....may be a little unhealthy but such a nice treat.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 11/12/2017 14:50

Well done moonlight - and the cakes look really tasty too!

I've had a couple of unhealthy days - but back on it now Wink

OP posts:
AnotherOtter · 12/12/2017 16:54

Well done Moonlight Smile I used to bake years ago but it fell away as I kept eating it all (literally). I really struggle with food being 'finished' and not wasting it. So things like choosing how to portion cake and then putting the rest away sit in my head and fester. But I'm okay with things that are portioned out by the manufacturer like Green & Black's selection box of individual small bars of chocolate and individual pots of chocolate ganache from Gu or the Coconut Collaboration. I think it's important to have so-called treats in your regular diet so you get used to eating them in normal amounts and also so you don't feel deprived. Looking at your photo it makes me think that cupcakes are portioned cake so to speak. So maybe I could bake them and eat one at a time. Maybe I am kidding myself because they look so tasty!

I had a NSV: bought a pair of size 14 trousers today. Last time I did that I was a first year student though I realise that sizes were smaller twenty years ago. I did get a bit of a shock looking at myself in the changing room mirror as all my current clothes are baggy. I'm one of those people that feels uncomfortable with compliments and that has been happening in the last while. Very ungrateful of me but I just think to myself "what did you think of me before and why does your opinion of my appearance even matter?!". I need to learn to grit my teeth, say thank you and change the subject!

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 13/12/2017 17:33

AnotherOtter - I have similar issues with portioning, I have a thing about stuff being left in the fridge and being forgotten about, so it goes to waste. Makes me far more likely to go ‘ah just put it all in’ rather than leave a half open pack/block/bunch etc.

Congrats on the NSV too. I wouldn’t get too disheartened by the comments - I read something somewhere (will try to find the link but think it may actually be a thread in Chat) about people just not noticing you when you’re large (invisibility by obesity) and it’s only when you lose weight, you register as a person in their minds. Obviously a very crude metaphor, and it isn’t true of everyone, but I think there is a grain of truth in it.

I’m not doing fabulously this week - seems like everyone and their dog has a hideous cold, so feeling a bit sorry for myself! Lots of Vit C and Lemsip activity but not much else Blush Hope everyone else is having a better week!!

AnotherOtter · 14/12/2017 11:56

Sorry to hear you all have the lurgy, Tractors. It's miserable when that happens and seems to drag on forever. I remember you talking about problems with fatigue a while back: how are you with it now? I hope it's settled and hope you feel better soon from the colds Thanks

You're totally right about being invisible when larger. I've noticed that people always say sorry when they bump into me now rather than ignoring me. Part of that is also about how poorly people are treated when they are overweight which is very sad and unfair.

It reminds me of when I went to Japan with my DH and we were on the bullet train. There were not two seats together so we sat with one behind the other next to Japanese business men.

My arse was so huge in Japan that I couldn't fit in the seat fully. I indicated to the arm rest to see if I could put it up but the guy just looked at me and turned his head away......fair enough I thought, he doesn't want me spilling over into his seat BUT he then proceeded to lean heavily on the arm rest to push it into my hip / leg. I decided to man-spread in a passive aggressive manner back. The tussle only ended when he got off before Kyoto.

Its the same everywhere, even on MN people complain that they don't want to sit next to a fatty Sad

PostNotInHaste · 15/12/2017 14:02

Well done AnotherOtter. Given up trying to work out how weight loss works and settling for just knowing it isn't linear! Brilliant news about the size 14! That makes sense about the portions and I'm a fan of mini versions at this time of year like mince pies and stollen bites. I've found everyone is being very nice now. I didn't think I was particularly invisible before but I think there was an element of it in hindsight.

Good going Moonlight and those cakes look lovely!

NoTractors sorry to hear about the lurgy and hope you're on the mend. Flowers I find vitamin C with zinc tablets work better for me than vitamin C on its own, though that might be placebo effect.

Good work with the STS NotaNurse. I'm doing much the same as you and have lost this week but am much what I was before I put on last week, quarter of a pound lighter but well within the normal variation you get when maintaining I suspect. Will resume after Christmas.

I am finding it hugely better than last Christmas. Lunch with friends was lovely yesterday. Still had Caesar salad and brandy cream but made sure I was very economical with both. Not easy nad still takes a lot of brain power sometimes but easier and more a way of life now than it was. I'm always very aware this could change anytime though and trying not to rest on my laurels.

Am armed with a natural menopause book and more supplements and feeling less like ripping someone's head off so I think that's a good thing Grin Just been reading a thread on bariatric surgery and it sounds really hard, the long term absorption issues etc on top of all the issues we've been experiencing that come along with weight loss.

Really looking forward going into 2018 with all of you and anyone else who joins us. So glad I finally bit the bullet and cracked on with it. Not finished yet and know maintenance will be the biggest challenge when eventually get there but bring it on !

Hope you feel better soon Notractors I'm finally feeling back to normal after weeks of a cold and a wisdom tooth playing up.

Well done Notanurse

I'm looking forward to Christmas to PostNot , I've learnt a lot from this thread and although I haven't got a far as I'd like, I do feel I've learnt a huge amount this year about myself and I feel more aware of my eating challenges and a lot more in control. So thank you all ladies for being alongside me.

To lose 113
Lost this week 1
Lost to date 54
Left to lose 59

Not made the best food choices this week, but I have been nonstop, so all good. Will go for maintenance till the new year I think.

Have a good weekend everyone

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 16/12/2017 17:27

Thanks for your good wishes - it's an absolute stinker, so I'm holed up on the sofa and (yet more) lemsip. No DCs this weekend, so I can mope about as much as I like and not leave the house unless I really have to...

I do have a veggie curry in the slow cooker though, so I'm hoping that will blast my sinuses and it's hearty enough to do me for a few days to come too Smile

Well done you losers, and you STS-ers - it's such a difficult time of year, everything seems to revolve around food. But, as Post and Breaking say, I've learnt a lot this year, and I feel I'm in a much better place to handle this in 2018, than I was this time last year. Thanks to you all!

I'm back! Holiday was amazing Grin
Landed weds morning and still suffering jet lag and its cold and miserable and I have to go back to work tommorow and sort out Christmas SadHmm

Gained 6 lb 12oz less than I was expecting as ate everything I liked and over 4 weeks ish.

So back at it, could do without Christmas in my way but have just accepted won't be totally back to plan until January.
Going to make healthier decisions this week pre Christmas.

Well done everyone on the losses and St's Flowers

AnotherOtter · 17/12/2017 11:48

Starting weight: 241lb
Current weight: 174.4lb
Total lost: 66.6lb
Total lost this week: 0.8lb
To go: 34.4lb

Pretty decent week for me. Will be gearing up for Christmas next week and have family arriving for a whole week when I was expecting a few days. I'm not looking forward to the food 'advice' and not-so-well-meant comments. I re-read the old threads as I knew there was discussion on loose skin and want to say thank you to BreakingSad for posting http://imperfectlife.com/ilovemyuglybody/ which gave me some perspective and cheered me up.

That's great that you have got some helpful menopause information that is making a difference, Post. I totally agree with you about maintenance needing practice and I am trying to prepare myself too.

How is your cold, Tractors. I hope you are starting to feel better Thanks

Welcome home, Chesty! So glad you had such a good time

Lego, don't know if you are still reading but if so, I hope you are okay. Saw your thread in Chat about the awful man in M&S who was beyond rude to you and all the stress you are under. I hope things improve for you soon Thanks

Well done to those who have lost this week or STS but KOKO regardless, especially at this time of year. I've learnt so much from you folk and I am looking forward to the 2018 threads Smile

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 17/12/2017 17:07

Well done AnotherOtter and welcome back Chesty!

I'm still a snotty mess attractive but getting lots of sleep which means I've stayed on track Xmas Wink. Going to work all next week does seem like an enormous effort...it will either be relatively quiet as people are winding down, or an absolute hell-hole as everyone clears their inboxes and frantically tries to sort stuff they had promised to have done by the end of the year Xmas Blush

I have made a bit of an effort though - meal plan is done (and mostly from meat and veg that is in the freezer to clear some space) and my pre-Christmas list is looking less daunting. It's going to be very low-key this year, which suits me just fine Xmas Smile
