Anyone looking to lose 100lbs in 2017 - Part 2

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 04/05/2017 17:47

Hello, welcome to the second instalment of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017’ thread Smile The first thread is here, if you want to read it: Part 1

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and we’re all starting to see some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food (at least, mine are changing!) Collectively we’ve lost 318 lbs since the start of the first thread, which is pretty amazing Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time.

I will make one caveat, which I think is quite important for the spirit of the thread - we’re all here because we have a LOT of weight to lose. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this may not be the thread for you. Good luck with the weight loss, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals.

And with that little speech done, I’ll shut up now Grin

Fab losses everyone! :D

Haven't been able to weigh myself just yet. Was on a night shift until Friday morning, so never weigh myself then and then I met a guy and had him over last night.... sooo I didn't really fancy whipping the scales out to weigh myself in front of him this morning hahahah.
Think I'm going to write this week off, been quite ill with the worst cold ever so only walked home from work once this week :(

MirabelleTree · 20/05/2017 15:15

A huge well done to Zesty, BreakingSad, Irishe, NotaNurse and NoTractors . Really pleased we'v all got over the hump and kept on. No doubt there will be more but we all know we can do it now.

Cult I hope he was nice ! Totally see why you didn't want to get the scales out. I hope the cold improves, don't worry about the exercise, just get back to it when you feel better.

Inspired by very impressive step counts on here last week I got up this morning and did wk2 day3 C25K. Then we did some more this afternoon and am at 22k. I'm going to eat 2000 calories today as I think I have been a bit low at times this week. Keep falling asleep at 9pm but am generally sleeping 8 hours.

I'm going to do run the race for life next summer. With my 2 thinnest, fittest friends, how the did that happen Grin

MirabelleTree · 20/05/2017 15:18

Aldi have kettle bells. 2 and 4kg for £6, 6 and 8kg for £11 if anyone is thinking if getting one.

swlondonnanny · 20/05/2017 15:22

Good afternoon everyone
Hope I can join you, you are such a supportive bunch Smile
I was following you on your first thread but never joint
I started my 'diet/new way of eating' back in March, do my version of low carb high fat. Also track everything on MFP, more to monitor my carbs and fat than calories.
I don't really do any exercise /gym, only do my walking where I aim to do my 10000 steps most of the days.
I have such a huge amount of weight to lose, it's unbelievable. I weigh myself in kgs
Started on 13march with BMI of around 43 (138.5kg, I am quite tall 5'11)
Week 10 this week, current weight 122 kg (BMI 37.6)
Ideally I would like to get into healthy BMI range so under 25 but as I haven't been that weight for over 2 decades I would be quite pleased to get under 30 (95kg) which I was last around 12 years ago
My next goal is to be under 113kg (BMI 35)
I know BMI is not everything but it's good to have some numbers to work forward to...
I am going to be 42 mid August so that gives me a good amount of time to get smaller. And healthier, hopefully

MirabelleTree · 20/05/2017 15:32

Hi SWlondonnanny and a warm welcome. You've done brilliantly in 10 weeks. I am a fair bit shorter than you and started the same BMI as you did. I've been paying attention to my BMI as it was too high to be referred for gallbladder surgery when I started. Surgeon set me a target of under 35 which I met a few weeks ago. Hopefully I'll be something like 33.9 on Thursday when I have my op. My next goal is to be under 30, think that last happened in 1996 !

swlondonnanny · 20/05/2017 15:42

Mirabelle I was amazed at your inch losses.... incredible... I simply can't measure myself... I did back in March and despite me losing around 2.5 stone and looking tiny bit smaller when I measure myself now it even looks like I got bigger somehow?!?!? Maybe I need a lesson about how to measure my waist properly Grin

MirabelleTree · 20/05/2017 16:03

Well I'm not sure how accurate it is if I'm honest but doing my best Grin I was aware my waist was shrinking and my thighs but my hips seem to have suddenly shrunk when they didn't do a lot for ages and I have lost more off my chest than I thought. I'm trying to do my waist around where my belly button is. Not an exact science but I was pretty much nagged into measuring at the start by a friend who regretted not doing it and am glad I have. I know I'm shrinking a bit as my shadow is smaller !

One thing I have found that helps is having a good supply of walking music. I downloaded some running albums and although they aren't particularly exciting they have become familiar and I've noticed my body has become almost conditioned to move a little bit faster when I hear the music, a kind of Pavlovian response. It's helped now I'm trying a bit with the C25K .

MsHeffalump · 20/05/2017 16:06

Hello all. I think I posted at the start of the first thread, then fell off the wagon and never came back. But on the plus side I haven't increased massively since then!

I made a spreadsheet on the 10th so I can keep track of pounds lost and arbitrary-units cycled on exercise bike, and generally motivate myself somewhat. Start weight was 284, target somewhere around 168, so similar numbers to a lot of you. Just annoyed at myself, because if I'd stuck it out I could be forty pounds lighter already!

MirabelleTree · 20/05/2017 16:06

Just found community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10554827/power-walking-works-50lb-weight-loss this thread where she talks about walking and music .

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 20/05/2017 16:11

Hi swlondonnanny and MsHeffalump - welcome on board! Try not to think about what could have been if you'd started earlier, the main thing is that you've started now Smile
Mirabelle I'm going to have a read of that link - definitely think you're on to something there Smile

MirabelleTree · 20/05/2017 16:24

Hi MsHeffalump. Just look at it as a period of maintenance which is flipping hard to do so you've actually done very well in my book !

ChestyNut · 21/05/2017 16:53

Hi you've all done so well!
I also joined at start of thread but lost my way a bit but have managed to maintain a 1stone loss which is unheard of for me.

Ive lost another 4lbs this week and need to keep plodding on.

Those of you who've successfully lost did you have aches and pains from being over weight? Has the loss reduced them?

I have terrible back pain Sad

ZestyDragon · 21/05/2017 20:08

Chestynut I am queen of the aches and pains - and its ok to admit it here. Well done for losing the stone. Keep going and keep posting.

Aches and pains - I have had a bad back for years. Is it your lower back/hips? I have made some progress with that. I get regular physio and I am working on my core. Walking will help - hurts like hell at first so do what I did and start with two shorter walks a day. Start pulling in your core as you walk. Since January I have had one very bad period of time where I ended up with a stick and diazepam. Its getting better though. It will get better for you but you do need to start to exercise if not already doing it.

Well done guys on losses this week and hello to the joiner/rejoiners. It will all be ok :) We are doing it together - you can see the progress that's been happening for us. It does work and we will support you.

As mentioned above - watch for that three month slump! We all had it around March/April and it was so good to know the others were suffering too.

You can ask odd questions here - ok, I do - loose skin, lumpy ribs, odd looking foofs etc. Actually, I think its just me asking the really odd ones Blush

And this is a good place for chat about exercise for those of us who are heavy.

MirabelleTree · 21/05/2017 21:41

Hi Chestynut and welcome back. 16lbs or there abouts is well on the way. Next goal 1.5 stone quite close for you now.

Yes I did have a fair few aches and pains. I still do to some extent but I think current ones are more from exercise.Squishy fat is another strange one and definitely a thing. It accompanies lumpy fat and you go squishy before firming up a bit.

How's everything doing on the loose skin front? My stomach is a little firmer than it was, seems to go in phases. My inner thighs are wherevthere is a little bit currently.

ChestyNut · 21/05/2017 22:16

Thanks zesty and Mirabelle yes it's my lower back and hips. I've always had a back prone to "going" from work but is so much worse.

Have held off doctors or physio as know I'll get the "fat lecture" and I'm very aware it's weight related.

18lbs down 82 to go!

ZestyDragon · 21/05/2017 23:07

Mirabelle - my stomach is also a bit firmer but still quite large. Also have a bit of an overhang. I have notices backs of my legs are a but softer and squishier now that you mention it. Inner thighs are not great but I am doing a full body programme with weights at the gym so hopefully the damage wont be took bad - its still better than before.

Chesty - see a physio. Honestly, they don't tend to mention it. I am always upfront and tell them I realise its weight related but I am working on it but in the meantime I am in pain - what can be done? I currently have back and knee issues and the physio is helping with both. She is also my biggest cheerleader on the weightloss and tells me where she sees my body changing :)

MirabelleTree · 22/05/2017 05:54

Sorry Christy, I can't add up! 2 more pounds and you're a fifth of the way through. I hurt my knee moving something and saw a ohysio. The health professionals have mostly been very good about it, I've always said that I know it is weight related.

My stomach is still large Zesty with an overhang but it has shrunk and the texture of the skin is better than a few weeks ago when it was quite crepey. The backs of my thighs is where I noticed the squishy bits first. They are still there but a fair bit less now and I'm delighted to have found my thigh muscle. I'd much rather have loose skin and be relatively healthy but it would be good if it wasn't too bad.

The scales aren't being kind at the moment and have gone up a littlr bit since Friday. I'm holding a lot of water which is partly being mid cycle but possibly due in part to 3 jogging sessions last week as have read that can happen at the startLuckily I'm a few pounds under surgery target so it won't matter but would be good if it shifts by Thursday so I can get my rings off.

Cultofpersonality · 22/05/2017 09:34

Start: 280
Total loss: 37
To go: 75
Target: 167

Well I'll be...
1lb off. It's not a lot, but I was expecting a gain after last week!
Think I'll have to invite my new guy friend over a bit more often hahaha.
Lovely to wake up to some sunshine after a week full of rain! Definitely got me craving some fresh salads, and some lovely strawberries :)

swlondonnanny · 22/05/2017 10:13

Mirabelle interesting link about the lady who lost all that weight by power walking, she looks amazing (she didn't look that bad before either I have to say).
Had to Google how fast one needs to walk to be 'power walking' as I don't intend to do any running. So it needs to be faster than 7km/hour. According to my fit gear I do 6.7 so nearly there...
Cult think you really should invite that your guy friend over Grin what a pleasant way to lose weight...
Zesty I do like your questions.... actually had a chat with DH about my, ehm, foof as you call it... I guess now my stomach got smaller it suddenly looks bigger Blush oh well al least my stomach is shrinking, hey?
Re the pains and aches - I have had them since childhood. It is caused by my thyroid (know that sounds crazy but that what I was told by my endocrinologist) so I don't find it to be weight related. My lower back seems to hurt on/off, had a lot of acupuncture done and it improved. Annoyingly it flares up big time when I lose weight so expect it to flare up again soon... I find walking helps a lot though, also any exercises for my stomach muscles seem to help a lot as well
Re the skin tone/loose skin /lumpy skin etc I find dry body brushing really great. Anybody else doing it?

ZestyDragon · 22/05/2017 10:14

Mirabelle the scales are also not being nice to me after the weekend even though I ate fine. We probably shouldn't weight every day though....

I wish I had taken photos of my body. After reading your last post I had a look at the backs of my thighs and I do think they are slimmer, even the pudgy big above the back of my knees. And everything seems looser, more movement.

I am now starting to wonder what needs to change and what will change as I get closer to goal weight. I have 70lbs to go.

Cult - well done! 37 is a great loss so far and 1lb after a bad week is great.

MsHeffalump · 22/05/2017 12:30

Photos are definitely a good idea. A few years ago I lost ~50lbs (and put it all back on again later). Honestly couldn't see any difference in how I looked, but photos showed it.

As for overhangs, I'm probably doomed. In late pregnancy the damned thing hung off the underside of my bump. It's now ridiculously enormous. But the scales are being nice - half a stone down since the 10th, and I did have a birthday with excellent cake in there.

Sulusu · 22/05/2017 13:43

Argh, no weight loss for me this week. I am feeling very frustrated, I was unable to exercise most of last week due to a huge flare up of my CFS.

I'm on holiday next week, and really wanted to lose another pound or two before I had to appear in public in a swimsuit.
I have lost 13 lbs in total but a week with zero loss when I have stuck to calories so well quite depressing.

Snap8TheCat · 22/05/2017 14:30

Hello! Please may I join? Not sure if it's allowed as I'm following Exante diet. No probs if not, you are all doing amazingly well and I've enjoyed reading about your progress.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 22/05/2017 15:11

(posting this during a rather dull meeting so must be quick!)

Sulusu hang on in there, the loss is rarely consistent, you you may have a week or two (or more) when nothing really happens and then you lose again Smile. You're doing really well.

Snap - we have a variety of weight loss methods going on, so please feel free to jump in!

Lovely to see lots of chat on the thread, will be back later on to read back on what I've missed Smile
