Anyone looking to lose 100lbs in 2017 - Part 2

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 04/05/2017 17:47

Hello, welcome to the second instalment of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017’ thread Smile The first thread is here, if you want to read it: Part 1

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and we’re all starting to see some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food (at least, mine are changing!) Collectively we’ve lost 318 lbs since the start of the first thread, which is pretty amazing Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time.

I will make one caveat, which I think is quite important for the spirit of the thread - we’re all here because we have a LOT of weight to lose. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this may not be the thread for you. Good luck with the weight loss, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals.

And with that little speech done, I’ll shut up now Grin

Thank you. My starting weight is 249.2. I'm mortified. It's the heaviest I've ever been but I'm in good company for losing it.

Cultofpersonality · 22/05/2017 16:48

Snap

I didn't realise just how heavy I was until I weighed myself.
I think having that bit of reality made me more determined to lose it!

Snap8TheCat · 22/05/2017 19:59

I actually lost 3 stone last year and have put it all back on. Gutted and one of the biggest regrets of my life that I wasted all that hard work.

ZestyDragon · 22/05/2017 23:28

swlondonnanny - "actually had a chat with DH about my, ehm, foof as you call it... I guess now my stomach got smaller it suddenly looks bigger oh well al least my stomach is shrinking, hey?"

Its not just me!!!!!!
Interesting about the aches and pains - I have had an underactive thyroid since late teens and have had achy knees and back since there.

Ok, what is dry body brushing? It sounds like something I need.

Msheffalump well done on the loss. The stomach thing is a disaster. I googled tummy tucks though, got prices etc and then saw what actually happened and decided I would rather not....

Sulusu sorry you aren't feeling well but at least you didn't gain when you were poorly. You may find it comes off this week though so keep at it!

Hey snap welcome aboard. I was a lot heavier than you when I joined and doing well. This is a fresh start here. Is Exante a meal replacement diet? I did something similar some years ago.

swlondonnanny · 23/05/2017 07:29

Zesty dry body brushing - I bought a body brush and use it before my shower (ordered it from amazon, it arrived with instructions which I follow).
I have a very dry skin thanks to my thyroid and it helps with that. Also with my puffy feet/ancles...
So do you have Hashimoto's then? I do with extremely high antibodies and actually know than when my small joints (wrist, shoulders, knees) start hurting I need to have a blood test and medication topped up. But I guess it is very individual...
What I found over the years as well is that if I follow low carb /paleo/ no dairy / no gluten / no pulses (def no soya) diet I feel soooo much better and my thyroid improves (even my endocrinologist was shocked as she never believed it could happen)
But I always stop and somehow all above mentioned thing creep into my diet... so I really want to stick to it long term. That's the reason why I started this time - to improve my health. And weight loss is a very pleasant side effect (highly appreciated side effect) Smile

MirabelleTree · 23/05/2017 07:31

Well done Cult, definitely get him over again !
Sulusu I find that my loss often reflects the calorie deficit the following week and weight loss definitely not linear. I think when people don't see much loss the first week it is often as they really went for it the week before knowing they were going to start a diet and it slightly hinders the first week's loss.

Snap welcome. My only vaguely similar experience was with the Cambridge diet in the 90's and I didn't make it past day 2 so can't be much help with that but whatever method we choose, the psychological stuff of losing this amount of weight is similar and something we all go through.

Msheffalump I'm 47 and have had 2 c sections, need I say more about my overhang ?!Grin

SWLondonnanny I thought the before picture was the after picture then scrolled down and nearly spat out my tea if I'm honest!

Zesty yes we shouldn't weigh daily but realistically once in the habit are we going to stop?! I can't help it with my deadline looming so close now. Bit better this morning.

Really nice apple porridge from the Instantpot this morning which will definitely repeat as was all done on timer so minimum hassle in the morning. But nervous about what I'll be like after op. People seem to vary a lot the first couple of weeks as to what they can eat and how they feel. I know it isn't sensible to cut calories whilst recovering so will eat at maintenance for a bit, if I can tolerate it. There's soup in the freezer in case I can't cope with much. Just so looking forward to being gallbladder free, 3 attacks last week.

Snap8TheCat · 23/05/2017 07:54

Thank you for the warm welcome.

Yes Exante is a meal replacement. It's very like Cambridge except no consultant, you just order them online. Therefore cheaper!

I did Cambridge last year losing 3 stone but I've put it back on. Not because the diet didn't work but because I didn't do any maintenance and went back to eating crap.

A big regret but I can't change that now. Onwards and downwards!

iloveredwine · 23/05/2017 07:56

hi not a great week for me put on 1lb so 220 again😔

Is 60lb enough to join in? I weigh 258 lb and I am aiming for 198. If I maintain that for a year then I'll hopefully drop another 20, but I think I'd be intimidated by trying to do it all in one go. Ive been having counselling and im finally ready to make the right changes but have never dieted before.

BreakingSad · 23/05/2017 13:28

Wow this thread has been very busy.

Of course you can join in herebehippos and I think you are being sensible to break it down, less overwhelming.
*
iloveredwine* keep on going, your hard work will show through.

Mirabelle wishing you all the best for your op and a pain free and speedy recovery.

I'm feeling in the zone at the moment, may it long continue Grin

MirabelleTree · 23/05/2017 14:47

Welcome herebehippos I agree it is sensible to break it down. I've decided that once recovers from op and back on it that i'm goi g to have regular weeks or so eating at maintenance to split the next phase up a bit.

Iloveredwine put it behind you and move on. That pound only matters if you let it take more importance in your mind and it sabotages you. I think a lot of us find focusing on health benefits help a lot.

Notanurse mine used to be after heavy meals and in the evening but it just goes for now reason now, it is gearing up again now. When is your scan?

Glad to hear you're in the zone BreakingSad and hope it does indeed continue for a long time Grin

Snap'I bet nearly every single one of us have regrets about not having maintained previous losses. I think it is very important to start thinking about maintenance fairly early on in the scheme of things. Clearly we need to change behaviours and theSmile

MirabelleTree · 23/05/2017 14:49

Sorry, keyboard froze. The more time we can spend thinking about how we can make maintenance work with our life style hopefully the more prepared we will be.

Oh for goodness sake, it really shouldn't be such hard work to get treatment Sad The hospital forgot to put me on the surgery list but luckily I was on the surgeon's so can go ahead, good thing I rang up. I hope to be in the former category too, thanks !

ChestyNut · 23/05/2017 20:47

So much for my back hips feeling better, been bad today Sad

Work colleague got our pounds of fat models out today and showed me the 18lbs I've lost....couldn't believe how big and heavy it was! Felt very proud (and ignoring the pounds left to go)

Onwards and downwards!

MirabelleTree · 24/05/2017 07:34

Oh ChestyNut, really hope it eases up soon Flowers I've been surprised at how heavy things are, it's a bit abstract until you have something to judge it against. I've realised I'm trying to lose my 18 year old DD's weight pretty much. That really puts it in context.

She's a bit worried I won't come round from the anaesthetic bless her. Have to admit it's my worry but this morning I am 10 bmi points less than when I started. If you go by that wrist size equals large frame equals knocking 10% off your BMI thing I've seen then I squeak into the overweight category. I have given it my all the last 28 weeks and am not going to stop after tomorrow.

MsHeffalump · 24/05/2017 11:39

Hope you're having a less painful day today, Chestynut. I'm in the ouchy club too, used to be just back and hips, now knuckles too. One of these days I'll go back to the doctor about it, because how could my weight be affecting my hands, and we do have early onset arthritis in the family, but I don't anticipate getting much help there.

It's weigh in day for me today. 4lbs down this week, 9lbs down in total. Hurrah!

ZestyDragon · 24/05/2017 22:08

swlondon the brush has been ordered! I don't have hashimotos no. The thyroid issue does seem to be hereditary though as a few cousins and aunts have it and some of us got it in our teens. I was diagnosed at 21 but had symptoms for a while before that. Because of me having it so early other younger family were tested. It's a real pain and I am not great at controlling it.

snap I tried lipotrim I think but gained as soon as I stopped of course 😒

Mirabelle, when is the op? You have done so well.

notanurse I took about 4 weeks off work but my wounds were infected and I worked as an administrator of a medical facility at the time and it could have made things worse if I was exposed to anything nasty.

chesty if you are in pain would you ask for pain relief? I needed to when I started walking and my back spasmed.

heffa well done 😀

MirabelleTree · 25/05/2017 09:19

Well done MsH, that's great!

Zesty it is this afternoon. If you could keep your fingers crossed he can get it out by keyhole that would be great. Not had a general before so a little nervous but relieved it's finally here.

swlondonnanny · 25/05/2017 10:00

Mirabelle everything crossed for you today, best of luck!

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 25/05/2017 10:15

Fingers crossed here too! Flowers I'm sure everything will go well. GA can take a while to get over, (about a week in my experience) so just take it easy - I've also had a few tears after having one, so you might be a little emotional too, just ride it out and be nice to yourself x
