Anyone looking to lose 100lbs in 2017 - Part 2

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 04/05/2017 17:47

Hello, welcome to the second instalment of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017’ thread Smile The first thread is here, if you want to read it: Part 1

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and we’re all starting to see some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food (at least, mine are changing!) Collectively we’ve lost 318 lbs since the start of the first thread, which is pretty amazing Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time.

I will make one caveat, which I think is quite important for the spirit of the thread - we’re all here because we have a LOT of weight to lose. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this may not be the thread for you. Good luck with the weight loss, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals.

And with that little speech done, I’ll shut up now Grin

Welcome Aph413. Lol at 98lbs not being enough to join the 100lb loss club. Grin It's just a large loss club, because our experiences tend to be different from those who just need to loose a small amount.

Tell us about yourself and your plans (if you want).

Aph413 · 23/09/2017 13:50

If I tell myself only 98 it isn't half as daunting but local slimming groups everyone seems to want to lose a stone or 2 not 7 so I never feel like I fit in. I've reached a point where I don't want to buy the next size up in clothing. I'm 5'8 and nearly 18 stone so luckily for me so far I've managed to get away with it to a certain extent. But I've had enough. I refuse to see the scales tell me I've hit 18 stone, I'm basically an angry dieter Grin
I'm using my Samsung health tracker on my phone to track my food and exercise and I've got a 2 week meal plan in place based on 3 meals and 1 snack that claims to help you drop a dress size. Not sustainable but hopefully a good kick start

PostNotInHaste · 23/09/2017 14:05

Welcome Aph413. I think we'll be here for years getting the weight off then keeping it off and people very welcome at any time Smile

Lovely to read this week's results from Notanurse, Breakingsad and NoTractors.

BlackAmericano that will soon come off. Sorry to hear about the insomnia, I go through phases of it and it sucks. I've read that it can affect weight loss. I can imagine it is pretty stressful waiting for planning for a house, an extension was bad enough ! Fingers firmly crossed for you.

NoTractors I can relate to that and I know DD worries about it. She is tiny but so was my Mum who then piled on weight later in life. She was saying that other day that she had put on 4 or 5lbs and I had to reassure her that it was her period, not the 3 packs of crisps she said she ate, though the sodium might have contributed to water retention.

She's 18 now and overall sensible plus into cooking and likes to experiment with various dishes. She's got her 14 year old brother at the kitchen table and they are making a big batch of bolognese together with loads of veg in it. He's chief veg chopper bless him! They both are well aware of my efforts to lose weight as it has got to the stage where they can't really miss it. I'm advocating balance , eating sensibly about 80% of the time and exercise for health. It is hard though. I remember my Mum saying if I ate an apple I could have a bar of chocolate when I was about 5.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 23/09/2017 18:04

Welcome Aph413!

As above, I think we'll be here for a while (I certainly will be!) - we'll be on to a 3rd thread before very long. Does anyone have a burning desire to set up a new one when the time comes? I don't mind doing it if no-one else is bothered, but I'm not precious about it, so happy to spread the love Grin.

Thanks for your words of wisdom Post - as always! I hoping I'm putting across the same sorts of messages that you are, but aware that they will take me far more seriously if I shift some pounds to back it up! I could do with a veg chopper in my house - hopefully my DS will pick that up like yours has Grin. I get bored with chopping and end up with irregularly shaped veg Blush

Total- 42lbs
To lose- 58lbs

3 stone hurrah Grin

notanurse I'm Christmas shopping and holiday arranging with a visit to Manchester thrown in.
I'm determined to get Christmas mainly done before I go away as don't come back til the 14th December.
Sorry for the Christmas talk in September Blush

DM is treating me to a dress I've been lusting over for reaching 3 stone. Now what size to get?
The holiday dresses I bought at 2stone are rather baggy under the arms Hmm

PostNotInHaste · 24/09/2017 10:20

😇👍😺🐼 well done Chesty !!!

Thanks Notanurse. Currently trying to decide if I treat myself to a non chocolate advent calendar as a bit of a reward for this year. Unfortunately the l'occitane one grabbed my eye which was expensive enough and then I saw they are going to have a luxury one which is even more Confused

Hi all,
I'm back from my week in Norfolk! We were very lucky with the weather and had a lovely time. Did loads of walking (about 15 miles a day), so could do with another holiday to recover! Food wise, I was reasonably restrained (only had chips once!!) but did enjoy some lovely food. So I was surprised to see a 4lb gain this morning, hoping at least some of it is just water!
Will catch up on the thread properly when I've worked through all my work emails, but a quick congrats to chesty on the 3 stone marker and notanurse I love my dubarry boots - made to last and very comfortable.

MintyChops · 25/09/2017 12:51

I need to join you too, I've just weighed and measured myself and I'm really shocked. Ok, here are the facts:
Weight 20stone 10.75pounds
BMI 41.7
Chest 49"
Waist 47"
Hips 56" (that is almost 6 feet. I am rounder than I am tall and I am 5' 10" Blush)

I want to lose at least 100 pounds. I lost 5 stone 3 pounds with Weightwatchers 10 years ago, never quite made it to my goal weight then started having children, broke my foot, allowed myself to put it all back on plus an extra 2 stone for good measure. I have to go to a big party on 24th November and I really want to have made a big dent in myself (so to speak!) by then. I think 16 pounds is very achievable and 21 would be bloody marvellous. I'm off to read over the last thread and this one for your wisdom......

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 25/09/2017 19:27

Well done chesty! Star Star Star

Thanks for the reminder notanurse - I do like a Tu shopping spree, the jeans fit me, and the tunic-type tops are a good length for me to wear over jeans (they just skim my hips, like a long top).

Welcome back hercy - sounds like you had a great time Smile

And finally, welcome MintyChops! Are you going to do WeightWatchers again, or do you have something else planned? It might take some time to read over all of our chatting Grin, so don't feel you have to - just jump in!

Hi, another one wanting to join you all here please. I've been reading this thread over the past week and just want to say well done to you!

So, I was 263lbs last Monday and want to get down to 154lbs. 109lbs Blush

This week I have lost 8.5lbs, which I'm chuffed to bit with; although I know it won't come off like that every week! I'm not following a specific plan. I'm just using my fitness pal to track my food, eating MUCH less sugar than I did and eating low gi carbs. I don't know if I'll need to tweak this eventually, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 25/09/2017 21:17

Hi beardotdo - that's amazing amount in a week, it takes me about 8 weeks to lose that much! Grin

I had great plans to get out and take a long walk this evening, but life got in the way a bit, and after work I just wanted to get home! Cup of fennel tea and an early night for me, I think (wild lives in the Tractors house...). Here's hoping tomorrow is a bit smoother Grin

Hercy that's fustrating but probably just water. Glad you had a good time.

Welcome to Minty and Beard. It takes. Me about 8 weeks to lose 8.5lbs too!

I realised yesterday that I'd calculated incorrectly and my BMI did sneak into the overweight catergory last week. Probably not now as AF here. I have 2 sets of scales which slightly confused things as the ones weigh on are a couple of pounds too heavy but very consistent. The others are more accurate but sometimes vary so it all gets a bit complicated !

Bought some jeans from Sainsbury's last time 25% off to find they have a red stripe down the side. De idea to dye them black yesterday. All worked very well, apart from the stripe has flipping well stayed red! Sent recent pic to my Brother who haven't seen for 3 years and got a gratifying 'Whoa! Doesn't look like you' in return. DD then came in and said she'd found an old bit of video, it was awful and I couldn't look for long,

swlondonnanny · 26/09/2017 09:13

Minty welcome. From your measurements it looks like you arevery similar to what I was when I started back in March. Hope the WW will work for you again and you will feel great at your November party Smile

Welcome to all the new people on here, this is such a supportive thread

Wells done to everyone ( for losing and KOKOing)

Notanurse managed to buy a waterproof jacket and new pair of walking boots Grin very happy with that. Finally bought MBT ankle boots and very happy with them. Used to wear them ages ago and was always happy but as they are quite pricey I stopped buying them. But bought them now and look at them as 'gym replacement' as walking is my main (only?) exercise. Hopefully they will last a bit and will tone my legs, bum and stomach a bit.

I've started noticing I ferl hungry all the time. But then I've never felt full after a meal anyway and I used to just keep eating and eating. Apparently that's just to do with fat cells containing something that means the signal doesn't happen? Who knows. I feel like I'm completely butchering that explanation Grin
Today is my first full day of following my meal plan and in determined I'll stick to it. I've very slowly been swapping my usual fizzy drinks for herbal teas. So far so good apart from every now and again I grab the nearest drink to take my vitamins which this morning was coca cola before I realised what I was even doing. Definitely going to be a long road to reeducation regarding food for me

MintyChops · 26/09/2017 14:21

Thank you for such a lovely welcome! I just realised that 56 inches is not nearly 6 feet, it is nearly 5 feet so that means on Day 1, I have (in my own head) lost a FOOT off my hips!!! Surely a record.....

I am debating whether to do WW again but for the moment I am doing the following:

  • make sure I have breakfast
  • snack in between meals
  • drink more water
  • swap out bad fats for good ones
  • weigh and measure things
  • write it down

You know, basic stuff that is sustainable and healthy So today I had
Breakfast - overnight oats (40g oats, 150g low fat vanilla yoghurt, 6 strawberries)
Snack - an apple and 6 Brazil nuts
Lunch - tuna and sweet corn salad, dressing made of olive oil, lemon and seasoning, tomatoes

Soon I will enter the danger zone, feeding the kids and a husband who doesn't get home until 8pm hence we eat late. I hope the regular snacking and water will help with the picking at leftovers and opening the wine.

MintyChops · 26/09/2017 14:22

swlondon Haven't managed to catch up properly, what did you do and where are you up to ( or rather down to) now?

ChestyNut · 26/09/2017 15:03

I've had a right good chucking out session!
The size 14s I've been holding onto have gone as I don't think I could maintain that low for me.

Feeling sorry for self on the sofa now, think I've got ovulation pains, hoping it doesn't mean a gain on weigh day.

notanurse I'm all to pot from being off work but have noticed I'm craving more stodgy food.

PostNotInHaste · 26/09/2017 15:05

I have the raving munchies at the moment and could eat a cow, preferably a chocolate one.

swlondonnanny · 26/09/2017 15:36

PostNot that's amazing, very well done!!! Must feel really good to be 'only' overweight
Minty I do low carb high fat but don't go under 30g carbs a day as that wouldn't work for my thyroid (have Hashimoto's) . + do quite a bit of walking. That somehow works for me. Lost just over 5 stone since mid March.
