Anyone looking to lose 100lbs in 2017 - Part 2

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 04/05/2017 17:47

Hello, welcome to the second instalment of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017’ thread Smile The first thread is here, if you want to read it: Part 1

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and we’re all starting to see some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food (at least, mine are changing!) Collectively we’ve lost 318 lbs since the start of the first thread, which is pretty amazing Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time.

I will make one caveat, which I think is quite important for the spirit of the thread - we’re all here because we have a LOT of weight to lose. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this may not be the thread for you. Good luck with the weight loss, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals.

And with that little speech done, I’ll shut up now Grin

swlondon I don't need any assistance on the stress front Grin
I'd love to have a summer wardrobe that fit every year rather than a mush mash of sizes.
Rant away...it's what we're here for Flowers

Notanurse I've found in the past that even with steady weight loss my size doesn't necessarily change steadily and I do get that whoosh effect that you've just had. It's nice when it happens, except when the sudden loss is off my cup-size. Grin

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 21/09/2017 15:10

I'm very jealous of you 'whooshers' - I never whoosh! I will admit that the massive cheese toastie I had last night is probably a contributing factor, but it was very very tasty contributing factor! Much more sensible salmon and broccoli planned for tonight Wink

Morning everyone, nearly weekend now Smile
Did my weigh in today at 103.6kg
Loss (week 28) -1.4kg
Have my gynaecologist appointment on 10 Oct (for my random inbetween periods bleeding to discuss the results of my scan) and would really like to be as close as possible to BMI 30. So they can't 'blame' it on my weight. No way I can lose another stone in next 2 and half weeks but would love to be under 100kgs by then
Re Mish Mash of clothes sizes - plan to do shopping this weekend (probably sainsbury's and Asda) and buy clothes that fit and get rid of last year's ones which are too big. Wish me luck please...

PostNotInHaste · 22/09/2017 07:34

1.25lb loss this week (week 45)
Total loss 79.5lb
To lose 30.5lb

Inch loss:
Thighs 6 inches
Waist 13 inches
Hips 11.5 inches
Chest 9.5 inches
Calf 2.5 inches

Inch has come off my chest pretty much overnight it seems! Definitely heading towards being left with that roll of fat around middle, hoping it shrinks a fair bit over remaining loss.

swlondonnanny · 22/09/2017 07:47

Impressive inches loss PostNot

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 22/09/2017 12:09

Whooshing does not work well for the apple-shaped, NoTractors. Because my hips are small relative to my waist, my trousers are held up by waist-grippage only. So last week I was happily walking briskly in my trousers then, three days later, I had to hold onto them while walking or risk embarrassment. Blush I ordered some new trousers, you'll be relieved to hear. They are a - wait for it - size 14! They're a Wallis size 14, which is a size 16 in any other brand, but still.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 22/09/2017 12:13

Wow PostNot, that's really good going. I should have thought to do measurements when I started.

BreakingSad · 22/09/2017 12:30

Well done SWLondon and PostNot and wow at the inches lost, huge congratulations.

BlackAmericano that's a great nsv

I've had a really good week and feel very positive. I tried out a HIIT workout and managed it 3x alongside my exercise bike. I think it help get me some much need endorphins Grin

I'll be weighing in tomorrow and although not expecting much, as I skipped last weeks weigh in as it wasn't a good week.

Anyone else read the thread on 'Weight loss be kind to ourselves' really interesting thread, with some great non food reward ideas.

PostNotInHaste · 23/09/2017 07:35

We posted our figures at exactly the same time SWLondonnanny. Well done on the loss. At least when you go and see Consultant you can say you have lost a lot of weight and as you said, you'll have lost a bit more by then. I was reading that people who lose weight for medical reasons often are very successful at maintenance which bodes well I felt.

Excellent NSV BlackAmericano , despite being a bit embarrassing!

Really good to hear Breakingsad and fingers crossed for weigh in . But at end of day whatever the scales say great week and brilliant you feel positive. Will have a look at that thread. I'm a bit worried about another I've been on where people are advocating LCHF, talking about peas and carrots in terms of a fail and a couple of people talking about children being low carb.

i'm going to start reviewing some of the literature on long term weight loss maintenance at some point. I'm 0.2 lb off being overweight but AF due next week so think it will be a couple of weeks before am there. This month I've lost 4.25lbs which I'm pleased with but found it has happened the latter part of my cycle with a gain and a STS the first two weeks. Will be interesting to see if same happens next month.

PostNotInHaste · 23/09/2017 07:44

I'm munching away on my first attempt at overnight oats/Bircher muesli type thing instead of my usual porridge. Wasn't sure if I'd like it but really nice. 25g oats, 1 grated apple, 4 chopped almonds, 5g runny hunny, 100g full fat Greek yoghurt , 100ml almond milk and some cinnamon. Off for a run later so should set me up very nicely for it and feels like a bit of a treat.

swlondonnanny · 23/09/2017 08:33

PostNot I have seen that thread. I do LCHF and it works for me quite well. And no I don't eat cooked carrots ( eat some raw ones sometime) and had peas in my omelette 2 days ago ( which I think is the first time in 6mnts actually). BUT I wouldn't go advising other people on line (who I do not know at all and don't know their medical history at all) that that's what they have to do.
I believe that everyone HAS to do their own research (and preferably consult a qualified nutritionist) and than decide.
I read at least 10 different diet books relevant to my health issues back in March/April (and still rereading them now) and picked bits which suited me the best. And still reevaluate regularly as the health changes.
As for low carb for children I read different opinions /studies on that subject. Based on that (if I ever had my own child) I would do Paleo style diet for them as I will do for myself long term (once I don't want to lose anymore weight). So they would still have starchy veg /sweet potato/ fruit in moderation but no grains/dairy/legumes/very little processed food. I spoke to a few paediatric diabetologist (if that is even right word) and that's what they are doing with their children as well.
Sorry for such an essay, and curious to see what your research will bring, please let me know.

swlondonnanny · 23/09/2017 08:41

Another topic - is anyone doing waist to height ratio and compares it to BMI? According to my BMI I am still over a stone away from even being in overweight category. According to WTH ratio I 'only' need to lose another inch and half off my waist to be in 'healthy' category (equivalent of BMI

PostNotInHaste · 23/09/2017 08:53

Will do SWLondonNanny, though it might be some time before I kick myself into gear properly on that front ! I have kind of been thinking vaguely though that I wouldn't mind possibly exploring the possibility of a Ph.D in obesity in the future. I was about to start one in a different field when I got pregnant and I'm still a bit sad about that. I'm becoming really interested in the fact that different methods work for different people and I think if I ever had a chance I'd like to look more so something to look at in the future.

An incredibly quick glance at the research the other day came up with it doesn't matter which method you use to get the weight loss but that certain behaviours afterwards were predictors of maintaining the loss eg. regularly monitoring weight to prevent weight creep.

What I love about this thread is we all have different approaches but similar goals so really get the obstacles and issues we face losing such a large amount of weight. I think I'd have really struggled without it and am really grateful to you all.

PostNotInHaste · 23/09/2017 08:58

Yes I'm looking at both BMI and WTH ratio and am the opposite to you. 0.2lb off BMI under 30 but WTH is 0.9 still. 3 inches more to come off waist before my waist is half my height. I was also going to ask about body fat as would like that. I guess possibly a gym? I'm assuming that the home scales which do it aren't very accurate?

ChestyNut · 23/09/2017 09:42

Post I saw that thread but stopped reading as advising that removing carbs from a childs diet was making me very uncomfortable.
That's amazing your considering a PhD in obesity, do you work in a health related field?

Well done on the losses, wish I'd thought to measure before I started for inch loss.

I'm on leave from work this week, find it harder to stay on track when I'm out of my normal routine.

PostNotInHaste · 23/09/2017 09:51

Not too late to measure now Chesty? No not working in health related field anymore now and I am possibly deluded about being able to get back in but am thinking I might be able to pick up where I left off and have found my local university do a Masters in health psychology which might be a way back in. Not sure yet and it's still a small seed of an idea and one for the future possibly.

I also find it harder when out of normal routine. Hope you have a lovely week off !

Well done Notanurse

Very pleased with this, my mindset is in a good place.

To lose 113
Lost to date 46
Left to lose 67
Lost this week 2

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 23/09/2017 12:30

Well done all! I'm down 1lb, which I'm happy about. I did take some measurements at some point, will have to dig out the Excel sheet they are on geek and see how they match up to now

Lost this week: 1 lb
To lose: 124 lbs
Lost to date: 29.5 lbs
Left to lose: 94.5 lbs

Interesting posts about children - I haven't looked at the other threads for a while, but a restrictive diet for children (with no medical issues) based on advice from the internet does make me feel uncomfortable. It's so hard, because you want to encourage them to try as much as possible to expand their palates and develop their own tastes, and at the same time, instill healthy habits (without feeling like a hypocrite), without creating anxiety about what's going into their bodies and also the knowledge about what they need to survive. Coupled with when they are at primary school and it seems like there's a birthday party every week, it's really difficult not to have times where they seem to have existed on sugar and fat, without a vegetable in sight Confused

Quite apt timing, but I had a massive chat with DD yesterday about weight, nutrition, genetics, body shapes, lifestyles and everything else in between (thank god for a science degree!). She's nearly 11, and there's a lot of chat about this sort of stuff at school. Both her and DS are healthy weights, but she looks a lot more like me, and I think she's concerned that she'll pack weight on like I did, while DS will remain slim like their dad. Made me feel fucking horrendous, but we talked for ages about how genetics works, nutrition, the changes that I'm making and things her friends have been talking about (celeb diets, mostly). Her friends are all very petite and she's the tall one, so I think she's feeling qute self-conscious too. Luckily, we have some cracking role models in the family, who are tall and strong and healthy, who she adores, which helps.

I'm hoping I haven't screwed her up - one of my abiding feelings from my childhood was being uncomfortable at my mother talking about diets and the importance of 'being slim' (a phrase that still riles me) and jumping on fad diets as they appeared Hmm. Definitely had an affect on me.

Week 13
Starting weight 100kg
current weight 91.1kg
this week's gain 0.3kg

So I put on a little bit this week. I have definitely been eating more and carb craving. It's down to tiredness. We are trying to build a house and we were refused planning permission by our local council, so it is now in appeal with An Bord Pleannala (the national planning authority). At the beginning of the week we were told they would make their decision on 18th Oct. I had been successfully ignoring the whole thing up until then, but once we got the date I started waking up at 2am with feelings of dread and not being able to get back to sleep. Anyway, the sleep thing is improving so hopefully I will be able to resist the cravings this week.

I am prone to bouts of insomnia and this time made me realise that I've always coped with it in the past by having a carb snack every hour or so to keep me going. It really does work to help with the tiredness, but obviously I can't use that coping mechanism anymore because it's so bad for my blood glucose levels.

Aph413 · 23/09/2017 13:21

It's late in the year and I only have 98lbs to lose but could I join you all?
