Anyone looking to lose 100lbs in 2017 - Part 2

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 04/05/2017 17:47

Hello, welcome to the second instalment of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017’ thread Smile The first thread is here, if you want to read it: Part 1

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and we’re all starting to see some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food (at least, mine are changing!) Collectively we’ve lost 318 lbs since the start of the first thread, which is pretty amazing Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time.

I will make one caveat, which I think is quite important for the spirit of the thread - we’re all here because we have a LOT of weight to lose. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this may not be the thread for you. Good luck with the weight loss, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals.

And with that little speech done, I’ll shut up now Grin

Here's one for you to look at NotaNurse community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10566123/goal-reached-135-lbs-down-please-be-encouraged-if-you-have-100-to-lose

totally get what you're saying about the lower calories. I found the amount I was eating was making me tired and hair falling out so have massively upped mine so I generally average about 2000 a day, though this week has been bad and am at about 2300 cals a day.

Just had a look at Fitbit weekly averages, about 2400 to 2650 weekly average depending on active I am. Actually that's made me think a bit.i think the higher figure is when I walk both days at the weekend and make an effort throughout the day to move more rather than get morning exercise done then not think about it. Seeing it can make a 250 cal a day on average difference is a bit of a surprise though guess it hasn't been.

Right next week I'm eating for health and focusing on activity. Next week has the potential to be a bit rocky still but I will deal as best I can and KOKO.

PostNotInHaste · 16/09/2017 09:32

Sorry me again. Someone on another thread recommended How to stay young on I player. Haven't watched it all but think it important viewing.

I think they follow them on a 12 week program. I'm going to challenge myself to work on the principles they are looking at for 12 weeks which goes through to mid December.

ChestyNut · 16/09/2017 10:37

swlondon that's fabulous! 73lbs is amazing!

Miserable day here, grey and rainy. Guess I'll have to do some holiday planning Grin
10 weeks to go!

What's everyone up to today?

PostNotInHaste · 16/09/2017 10:42

That's absolutely brilliant SWLondonNanny, a huge well done.

Long dog walk for me in a minute then food shopping. Not exciting but necessary as DD sitting there with only food in house with a face like a bulldog chewing a wasp!

PostNotInHaste · 16/09/2017 10:43

Bu she'll have to wait till I've done exercise as the dog is sitting in front of me wagging her tail so hard it looks like it might fall off.

BreakingSad · 17/09/2017 17:10

Well done Notractors, Chesty, Hercy and SWLondon.

BlackAmericano never very good at expressing my feelings, definitely have used food as distraction. Your story made me Grinespecially the little narcissists GrinGrin

Postinhaste wise words as always and great inspirational woman in your link.

BreakingSad · 17/09/2017 17:20

I obviously posted in haste PostNotinhaste Grin

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 17/09/2017 17:26

Week 12
Starting weight 100kg
current weight 89.8kg
this week's loss 0.3kg

A small loss, but it's still a loss so I'll take it. Grin

swlondonnanny · 18/09/2017 07:39

Morning ladies Smile
Wrote a really long post last night and lost it.... will try again, hope it will work this time
Well done everyone for losing and Kokoing....
Hercy great whoosh, don't we all love when that happens? Grin
Chesty how is the holiday planning going? You sorted out what you are going to wear there?
PostNot interesting you mentioned hair loss when eating lower calories. I lost so much hair in last 3months, it is unbelievable. Thought it was my thyroid or adrenals playing up but did a bit of research (well Dr Google, really) and found a few articles about how dieting (with calorie restrictions) can lead to hair loss. Also low iron can cause it as well(which is my problem as well).
Silly me, started to watch a few episodes of Extreme weight loss and while they all look amazing at the end (after they lose well over 100lbs each) they all need loose skin removal surgery afterwards... made me fee a bit sad, actually. And left me wondering how much I want to lose as can't afford any surgery to deal with the skin... I know I should just think of health benefits and exercise more...
On the topic of exercise has anyone got one of those mini stepper machines at home? Was planning to buy one (once I am under 100kgs as that's the maximum user weight) just wondering if they are any good, really...

PostNotInHaste · 18/09/2017 09:52

Grin *BreakingSad

Well done BlackAmericano, solid progress.

SWLondonnanny from what I have read it takes some weeks to start and it's the body shutting down non essential functions to preserve energy. I was ok until I stepped up the exercise then it was too much for my body nad I was exhausted too.

I've watched all the Extreme weight loss programs. I think we have to remember it is really extreme and they are doing it in a very short period of time. Lots of lessons to be learned I think, a lot seem to dip in motivation in phase 2 which I thought was interested. I think losing that fast you're pretty much guaranteed loose skin. There is a lot of luck of your genes involved but I've read exercise, losing at a relatively slow pace can help and that although very slow, the skin can recover a reasonable amount after a couple of years.

Mine's holding up relatively ok after 78lbs. Bit reappeared on thighs, that seems to come and go. Stomach seems fines, arms are just flabby at the moment. I figure at the end end of the day I would rather be a healthy BMI and increase my chances of being healthy , so will just have to have loose skin and deal with it.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 18/09/2017 18:21

I've read the same PostNot about slow loss and exercise helping with loose skin.

I get a bit scared watching the extreme weight loss programs - I'm fascinated, but that must be an all-consuming way to live. Also, from what I've read about the Ultimate Loser (was that linked by someone on here?), it's really not sustainable way of doing things, because there's very little change in people's thought processes, so it goes back on again. That must be utterly heartbreaking.

It won't be us though, I'm certain of it Wink (I'm feeling very positive today, I'm not sure why!)

PostNotInHaste · 18/09/2017 18:51

I'm feeling positive as DD wanted exercise after I had done my daily allocation so I'm at 20k steps which I'm positive will have burned off that chocolate cake I ate Grin

Agree about the program, I think I linked it before. Occasionally they cart them off for counselling and do explore what lies at the root of the overeating but I think they need to have more of this. I found it very interesting and sad about how many of them were sabotaged by their families who just couldn't see what they were doing.

JoAnnTidyHouse · 18/09/2017 21:34

Can I join in? Post-menopausal, trying to stop gaining, groan. Then to start eating healthily, and exercise more, and see what happens. No marathon training here, just wanting to be more active. Any weight loss will be welcome. My initial goal is to fit into the biggest size of George at Asda.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 18/09/2017 22:07

Jump right in JoAnn - others have much wiser advice to impart than me, but the important thing is to keep going once you've started Smile

I'm feeling very smug, as I've meal-planned for the next two weeks, and I'm got an online shop for the bulk of it, and will only need a top-up for fruit and veg. I'll be amazed if it all works out Grin

OP posts:
swlondonnanny · 19/09/2017 07:33

Welcome JoAnn
Ok ladies, slow loss and exercise it is then (and hope for the best Grin)
The same article I read about the hair loss when eating low calories recommended to eat no less that XYZ calories a day (XYZ being goal weight in lbs x 10 ) Those who monitor their calories on MFP or similar is this the daily amount the app suggests?

PostNotInHaste · 19/09/2017 10:53

Welcome Joann A lot of us have found walking really helps things along.

If that woks NoTractors we'll all be begging you to post your meal plan 😀

I think MFP does not below 1200 SWLondonnanny and Nutracheck does not under 14000. But these are supposed to be net figures so you would eat some of your exercise calories. I sort of ignore it and go by how active I am eg yesterday I had a very active day and burned off about 2877 and ate 2054. A random day last week I burned 2579 and ate 2143 and on another I ate 2908 and burned off 1790 so it really varies for me depending on what life chucks at me !

ChestyNut · 19/09/2017 17:42

swlondon the clothes I bought earlier are s but big under the armpits!
I'm a ball of stress! Tryinv to plan buy and wrap Christmas before I go and the usual packing, what shall I wear panic, with a bit of fear about gaining weight while I'm away Grin

ChestyNut · 19/09/2017 17:42

Glad you asked? Grin

JoAnnTidyHouse · 19/09/2017 19:36

Thank you for the welcome. I weighed myself this morning. Horrors! There are a few habits I can address asap - eating late at night, fast food, fancy coffees.

Exercise mostly involves decluttering, tidying, cleaning, gardening.

swlondonnanny · 20/09/2017 07:41

Sorry Chesty didn't mean to stress you out even more... was just daydreaming about how nice it would be to be able to just borrow everyday clothes for short periods of time, then we wouldn't need to worry about clothes fitting or try to get summer clothes in winter...
Right now I need warm (woolen) cardigan, hopefully next time I need it it will be too big. It feel like such a waste of money to buy new one. Oh well. Will have to buy quite a few new tunics/dresses for autumn /winter as well as the ones I have last year are nor wearable. Summer stuff I found easier (maybe because it is much cheaper...) sorry about the rant, it is doing my head in
