Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017?

TaliDiNozzo · 27/12/2016 11:31

Just that really. I promise myself every year that I'm going to do it then I'm sat here every fucking year still not having done it.

I think I probably need to lose around 150lbs tbh but I thought it might be helpful to have a 100lbs plus thread for anyone in a similar boat to me.

How are you planning on doing it? I am restarting Weight Watchers (at home on the app), clean-ish eating and setting myself a daily step goal. Am also moving house in January/February which helps (in my mind) with the fresh start ethos.

I think we've been doing it for a fair time now and going through a dip. Been watching Extreme Makeover Diet and noticed they often do after a bit.

1.75lbs off today so 44lbs (week 20) 56lb left. 5lbs left to surgery target with 8 weeks remaining. My BMI is 35.8

MirabelleTree · 31/03/2017 07:10

6lbs to surgery target, can't add up

ZestyDragon · 31/03/2017 08:21

I think you are right. I feel like I am in a dip. You just want it done!

Well done on your loss this week. Once you have surgery you won't know yourself.

Rumtopf · 31/03/2017 08:52

Mirabelle that's fantastic, well done!

I agree about the dip. I ate poorly yesterday evening but not as bad as I thought when I put it into MFP. Extra steps needed today though.

BreakingSad · 31/03/2017 09:08

Well done Mirabelle you're doing great.

Like some of you, I've been struggling this week and to be honest this month, going up and down. I'm quite stressed at the moment, which effects my sleeping and then I'm tired during the day (AF due too). I then eat the wrong foods to give me a boost, but I know it's counterproductive.

I know I have to buckle down or I'll lose all my previous hard work. I won't give up just feeling weary.

MirabelleTree · 31/03/2017 10:47

Thank you all. I text a friend on a Friday and we swap weigh in results, she is feeling it too. I guess this is where a lot of people get unstuck. I think knowing it looks like a normal part of things does help. I think I need some different dishes to shake things up a bit and over Easter I might by some M and S ready meals to give a break from cooking.

If you have a moment watch an episode or two of extreme makeover diet, really good to see their progress over a year.

I think Easter is going to be a bit tricky for us all so probably worth thinking a bit ahead some strategies for coping with it and we could probably all do with a mini goal to take focus off the large picture maybe ?

ZestyDragon · 31/03/2017 18:25

Mirabelle I won't lie. I am going to have a big easter egg. A big one.

Overall though yes we need to be ready for it. My plan is gardening and walks. That will distract me from sitting on my arse eating chocolate.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 31/03/2017 19:33

Mirabelle - I think that is a great idea. On a very selfish note, I'm glad there are others that are experiencing 'The Dip' - I was worried I was starting to feel a little isolated, so it's comforting to know that's not the case.

I've decided on two goals I'd like to achieve in the run up to Easter - I'm hoping that if I have these on the way to being established by then, I'll keep on the wagon.

1 - Scales related: Have 14 days where I stay within my MFP allowance and to make the best choices I can make for how to use those calories.

2 - Non-scales related: Have 7 days where I do something that's just for me - I'll aim to do something every other day, like have a long bath, or give myself an hour to read my book in the evenings.

On a different note, I came across this article today - I really like Darya, she speaks a lot of sense and this sort of thinking is what I'd like to achieve, and pass on to DD if at all possible: www.summertomato.com/no-you-dont-deserve-that-indulgence-today

ZestyDragon · 01/04/2017 11:50

Start: 287lbs
Current: 242lbs
Loss this week: 3lbs
Loss: 45lbs
To go: 82lbs
Goal: 160lbs

Good loss this week even though i would say that I have struggled and been fed up. I want to get to a 49lb loss by the end of April as that would be a total loss of 3 and a half stone. Here's hoping!

BreakingSad · 01/04/2017 14:09

Well done Zestydragonand a good article Notractors.

To lose 113
Lost to date 33
Left to lose 78
Lost this week 0

No gain, so pleasantly surprised by thatShock
My mini goal for this month is to stay within my target on myfitnesspal.
I also want to shake up my exercises and meals.

ZestyDragon · 01/04/2017 16:40

That sounds like a good plan breaking. It does help to have a plan of attack. What calories have you set for MyFitnessPal? Mine is 1860.

BreakingSad · 01/04/2017 21:01

Zestydragon I'm on 1700, I worked out my Total daily energy expenditure (TDEE) - 20%. MFP would set it at 1500, which I feel is to low at the moment.
Do you use your extra calories you get through exercise? Not sure it's helping me as I always do.

ZestyDragon · 01/04/2017 22:01

Breakingsad - I just used the app to set 1 lbs a week loss and went from there. I use a fitbit which works with MPF. I actually don't eat back all the calories. I do seem to burn around 2900 calories per day according to the fitbit as I am trying to walk minimum 11,000-12,000 steps each day. I think MFP over estimates calories burned through exercise so whilst I am happy using 150 or so calories I wouldn't use them all. I genuinely don't think its accurate. I also used MFP for 2/3 years without losing much weight. I was overestimating how much I moved until I got the fitbit.

I would try only eating a third back for a couple of weeks and see how that goes.

BreakingSad · 01/04/2017 22:32

Thanks Zesty, I also have a Fitbit too and linked to MFP. I think you're right and I think I'll try and just stay on target without using any extra calories or very few of them. I try and hit 10000 steps, but I'm going to up it to 12000 and see how I go as well.
That's definitely going to be my goal this month.

ZestyDragon · 01/04/2017 22:36

I was thinking of increasing my minimum goal to 12,000....but 11,000 is more achievable for me!

I bet not eating all the exercise calories will be a big difference. I think that is what is helping me.

MirabelleTree · 02/04/2017 07:54

I do mine differently and use my Fitbit to get to 7000 cal deficit, not necessarily having an even 1000 deficit a day as I don't want my body to get used to a set amount of calories at the moment. I also try to go 13 hours overnight without food as have heard health benefits kick in after 12 hours.

My average daily burn has gone down 220 calories but my average daily steps is not quite 10k so I'm going to increase it up to 11k. I've got 8 weeks till surgery and would like to lose another stone ideally, though officially need to do 5 or 6lb to get to official target which is BMI under 35. I started at something like 42.8 and am now 35.8 so am really pleased.

After my gallbladder is out I'm thinking of doing a 5.2 style fast day as interested in using one fast day a week as part of maintenance when am finally there. I do like to eat so would like to be able to average around 2000 calls a day at target which will mean keeping step levels up amid figured a one day fast will give a safety net.

I'm very aware from reading threads here that after menopause it will be hard to lose weight so am keen to crack this now as am 47. I know I'll have to reduce my daily calories as I get older so thought 2000 a good place to start. I can see the Fitbit will be vital for maintenance and if anyone is wondering whether to get one or similar , really do recommend it.

Decided I'll have an Easter egg so off to research my options. Am also going to measure again soon as want to see how many inches I've lost.

MirabelleTree · 02/04/2017 08:05

Right my Easter egg of choice will be a medium buttons one which I'll eat over a few days, depending on how things are going. I'm also going to have a couple of hot cross buns, the Aldi essential ones are a respectable 147 cals. Easter is sorted.

Just think, by Christmas we'll all be far enough down this and have enough strategies up our sleeves to be able to relax a bit. I never want to do the piling on stacks again though, am done with that.

Well done Notanurse, you're averaging 1.69lbs a week - 6 stone 4lbs in a year if you keep the same pace so what you're doing is working well. That must feel quite scary what happened with your eye, glad they are seeing you again. A lot of us are experiencing a dip at the moment so you're not alone . Flowers

My gallbladder is slightly better in that I only had 1 attack this week rather than 4 in 8 days as I had recently. But it is a real pain. I've not had any red meat for a few weeks (only had one portion a week before) and cut out eggs some time ago. I'm not entirely sure I'm getting enough iron and nee to read up on it, I've been feeling particularly knackered and getting through a walk has been a struggle on occasions.

DH is kindly joining me for a swim in a bit, my first lane swimming session for 5 or 6 years.

StubbleTurnips · 02/04/2017 14:52

Stayed the same this week, but dreaded AF turned up for the 3rd time in 6 weeks so glad none has gone on! Off to catch up.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 02/04/2017 19:18

How are we all doing? I'm positively bouncing this evening - feeling much more positive! Hope my fellow 'dippers' dipees? start feeling this way too.

I've eaten very sensibly today, and have meal-planned and shopped for the week. I think the light evenings are starting to have an effect - the weather for us is supposed to stay mostly dry this week, so I'm definitely feeling like a few long walks after work (with DH and the DCs if they want to come) will be achievable. If they don't, I have a few podcasts lined up to keep me occupied Smile

ZestyDragon · 02/04/2017 19:58

Turnips - its always the same with the AF and no weight loss. 3 Times in 6 weeks though?? Well done for holding steady.

Well done for the losses this week.

Still dipping though. I am not in a good mood but this is more to do with DH and his depression. Its very hard to live with and makes me feel down myself and eat.

Also I know I have lost over 3 stone but I don't see it and I don't think I look any better either even if others do see it. It would help if DH noticed but he doesn't.

On another note, I have very fat calves and I have this awful feeling that even if I get to a healthy BMI that they will still be huge.

MirabelleTree · 02/04/2017 20:05

Huge sympathies on the AF front Stubble, stating the same good in the circumstances.

I'm good thanks NoTractors and feeling much more positive, glad you are too. I made it swimming today and did 64 lengths so was really really pleased. Then on a dog walk later I ended up running a bit as needed to get back to the car quickly.

We then went to Waitrose and bought some treat stuff. I had a shepherd's pie with sweet potato topping , streamed veg plus a pot of tiramisu. After getting back I had a cuppa with a chocolate eclair cream cake. Was all prepared for today to be a 2000 calorie day but the kitchen has closed on 1505 so a very nice surprise. Am probably going to pay with my gallbladder later but it's kicked off after playing things before so had a sod it moment. Waitrose chocolate eclair from a 4 pack is only about 147 calories which I thought was good. They might be my go to cake when I need to take cake somewhere.

Only slight downside was a slightly strange sensation in the pool on my inside thigh and I have a horrible feeling it's the start of loose skin.

ZestyDragon · 02/04/2017 20:09

Mirabelle I too have that strange sensation and yes I have loose skin developing! I have bought swim shorts to cover it up.
