Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017?

TaliDiNozzo · 27/12/2016 11:31

Just that really. I promise myself every year that I'm going to do it then I'm sat here every fucking year still not having done it.

I think I probably need to lose around 150lbs tbh but I thought it might be helpful to have a 100lbs plus thread for anyone in a similar boat to me.

How are you planning on doing it? I am restarting Weight Watchers (at home on the app), clean-ish eating and setting myself a daily step goal. Am also moving house in January/February which helps (in my mind) with the fresh start ethos.

Hi all. Well done for being ready to commit to this. Just want to say that 100lbs is absolutely possible. I weighed 17.2 on 3 January this year, and was 10.3 this morning, making a loss of 97lbs over the year. It can be done!

I've gone from a morbidly obese BMI of 41 to a healthy BMI 24.5, and from a (vanity) size 22/24 to a size 10/12.

It's a long, hard, slog when you have so much too lose, and I wholeheartedly agree with those above suggesting setting yourself small gettable targets and giving yourself (non-food) rewards when you get there - new clothes, nice cosmetics etc etc to keep you going. Good luck!

AprilLady that is really helpful to know, thank you. What method did you use?

Left to lose: 86lbs
Lost this week: 1lb (included in figures above)

MrsderPunkt · 28/12/2016 16:14

jelly there's a whole lot of other weightloss threads, would one of those be more appropriate? I'm not sure you'll be able to identify with those that have more than double to lose, and likewise it's harder for those of us with a serious weight problem to sympathise with those that don't. You might feel like big daddy, but I bet I look more like him that you do!

I'm not completely sure on the amount to lose because I don't know my starting weight yet. Am resisting stepping on the scales until the weekend! I think it's probably going to be around the 20 stone mark though. Horrifying.

On a separate although connected note, has anyone bought a 'health fryer'? Wondering whether to invest in one or not?

Thank you @Doublegin
I'll do a weigh in sat & record figures.
Nice to know won't be alone

ShelaghTurner · 28/12/2016 17:52

I'm in. Haven't weighed for a while but have a good idea and it's not pretty. Will be back in the new year though.

DoubleGin · 28/12/2016 17:57

I have a Philips one Tali I love it it's great ! Makes really nice slimming world chips !

AprilLady · 28/12/2016 18:08

Mirabelle I used MFP, aiming to average 1200 calories a day over the course of a week (not netting off exercise calories). I also aimed to walk more - I now do 10,000 or more steps most days, though in the beginning my average was more like 6000 to 7000 steps a day.

I deliberately took the view that no foodstuff would be banned, but instead that everything (even salad leaves! ) had to be counted. I then just tried to make most of the calories I ate nutritious, so lean meat and fish, vegetables and fruit, lower fat dairy and low GI carbs like porridge. I have also still had bread, fats, sugars etc, just much much less than I used to.

SpornStar · 28/12/2016 18:19

I'm in.

I've done this before...lost 75lbs before I was pregnant and then found it all again after baby was born. That baby is 4 now and it's time for it to go again. I'm setting such a bad example to her and I need to get my rating under control again. I've also got a big holiday planned for July so I want to be at least 4 stone down by then - I know I always shift the first couple of stone quickly so that should be completely achievable.

Planning to blow the cobwebs off MFP and calorie count, portion control and be more active as that's what worked for me last time.

Thanks for starting this OP, hopefully you all can give me the sustained kick up the arse I need to get back on track.

MirabelleTree · 28/12/2016 19:07

Thanks AprilLady, very helpful. I'm trying to do kind of similar but on more calories for now and will gradually decrease down as I lose weight.

DoubleGin · 28/12/2016 19:18

I think when I'm on non fast days I'm going to count cals too as I'm already sat here thinking about what I'm going to eat tomorrow - boiled eggs on toast for breakfast, butternut squash pasta for lunch and chicken pesto with spinach for dinner 😍😍

honeysucklejasmine · 28/12/2016 19:23

I am doing SW. I really need to up my effort on "speed food". Essentially fruit and veg. Its supposed to be a third of your plate. I do eat lots of f&v but usually "in" the food (I am a fan of one pot meals) so I find it hard to quantify what i am eating. Generally, I think I need to try harder to cook vegetable "sides". Too many things to think about.

DoubleGin · 28/12/2016 19:26

I used to do a lot of stir fry veg with my meals as it was quick and easy to eat (doesn't feel like too much veg, not like big chunks of broc etc)
Overnight oats were good for brekkie too as you can hid a lot of speed in there !!

civilfawlty · 28/12/2016 20:19

This is something I'd really like to be part of, but I'm not sure I can face weighing myself for a precise figure. Do you think I can join in and weigh myself when I get to, say, a size 16?

Also keen for input on which diet. I thought 5:2 (or 4:3), in large part because I don't want everyone to know I'm dieting. I just find the scrutiny really uncomfortable, and the encouragement somehow so patronising. Does anyone else feel that?

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 28/12/2016 20:23

Can I join? I've 8 stone to lose - have lost 12lbs since start of Nov by doing low carb, high fat (albeit not very strictly for the last couple of weeks) so I'm going to ramp up my efforts in the coming days. This weight has just crept on in the last few years - I'm tall, but don't carry it well at all, it's all on my belly and boobs Blush

Hi Tractors, hi Civil. Smile

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 28/12/2016 20:27

Cross-posted with civil - yes, I totally understand the support feeling patronising, despite it being well-intentioned. Online support is fine, but there's something about real-life people commenting that irritates me Blush

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 28/12/2016 20:28

And cross-posted again! Hi honey! Smile

TaliDiNozzo · 28/12/2016 21:38

Hi everyone and welcome to the thread! Tis lovely in a rather bizarre way to know I'm not alone in this!

MrsderPunkt
Thanks for the heads up. Didn't realise I wasn't overweight enough to be considered worthy of this thread. As for not being able to relate to being overweight or you all not considering I am big enough to be worthy of support.... well, that is just marvellous.

Too fat for everyday people, not fat enough to join a support thread. You have a shitty exclusive attitude.

MrsderPunkt · 28/12/2016 22:44

Join any of the support threads relevant to you - I was merely trying to point you in the right direction in case you'd picked this up in 'trending' and hadn't realized that there are other threads and/or sections more relevant to you.

MrsderPunkt · 28/12/2016 22:46

In fact there's a 20kg one right below - that's much closer to your goal than this one where the op is trying to rally those with more than 100lbs to lose.
