That's really not enough calories Ineed, are you not starving? Honestly, you don't need to be so hard on yourself. You need decent nourishment - you'll lose muscle without it, which will do your joints no good. I'd wouldn't be surprised if you'd already lost that first stone but you'd probably struggle to exercise on so little fuel. You can weigh yourself at a chemist (boots definitely) or would you consider a slimming club cause they'd give you a better idea of what you could eat (not perfect but could help?). It kinda sounds like you need some help with learning how to eat to fuel yourself properly - most of us are trying to change the overeating habits but you don't appear to have that issue

I'm really rubbish at this arnt I!! I do want to eat healthy. So will forget about carbs and add some fruit / potatoes every day.. that should bring it up by 500 + a day.

I think I just think.. I can't eat bread, cakes, sweet, pasta etc and then stick to it to the extreme.. and then end up eating the same thing most days.

Though today I made chips from swede and it was really really nice .. so maybe joining a club can help with other foods to eat. Thanks for the advice.. it's been helpful. Good luck everyone and I will continue watching the thread if you don't mind.

Argh bloody insomnia. Decided to get myself a cup of tea and a little snack to see if that will lull me off again. Found myself weighing and logging 18g of cheese at 3.30am. I'm institutionalised! 😱😂

JontyDoggle37 · 07/02/2017 06:18

Me again. Managed to get back to sleep for about an hour and a half. Sigh. In good news, I actually rode my horse last night, and this morning I've done a 15 minute HIITT workout. Weight is at 10st 6.5 (I.e. No movement). Goals for this week (by Friday night)!are to lose 1lb, complete 3 workouts and ride twice. I've got a work evening out tomorrow night where I need to not drink, but we're going greyhound racing so I don't expect there'll be high quality wine available to tempt me!Grin

Not2bObvious · 07/02/2017 07:05

I woke at 4.15am jonty, read for an hour and then back asleep for 1.5 - looks like we're insomnia buddies! Didn't have any cheese though😉 Great that you got out for a ride yesterday evening and fair play for doing hiit this morning. I'm 11.7 this morning but a bit, tmi, bunged. I have high hopes this week, I want to see 11.4.2 on the scales - she who wants rarely gets but may as well through it out there. Poached egg on toast with tomato for breakfast, tuna & wheaten loaf for lunch, wrap pizza for tea - that's the plan anyway. Going to book my afternoon class now, no ill affects from fitness blender workout but no doubt I'll be sore after today's brutalities

Throw not through - honestly

Morning all - sorry to hear about the insomnia, Jonty and Not - fellow sufferer here and it's miserable.

Scales this morning show 11st 13.5. I put a pound or so in during my period, so now I'm back to where I was two weeks ago.

Could my problem be that I usually eat back most of my exercise calories? My Fitbit is linked to my MFP app, so it gives me back the calories I use walking my 10k steps.

I know the answer to this, I guess...

Not2bObvious · 07/02/2017 07:18

Sadly mfp vastly overestimates calories mum. If you really can't avoid eating them back then assume you only earned half of what it told you. Great that you're back under 12, well done

OP posts:
MumBod · 07/02/2017 07:26

I thought it did, so I linked my Fitbit to the app instead. Does Fitbit overestimate too, di you know?

JontyDoggle37 · 07/02/2017 07:56

Morning Not well done on the goal setting and class booking
Mum you don't actually need extra calories if you're canny with your menus - a good chunk of lean protein in each meal, load up on veggies and a small amount of 'healthy' carbs like couscous, pasta, rice etc and you'll honestly feel full all day. I aim for protein the size of my palm, then equal amounts veggies and carbs (in terms of plate space, not weight as the veggies usually weigh more).

Bathsheba3 · 07/02/2017 07:56

As a general rule mumbod never eat-back exercise calories. Don't know about fitbit but as not says, mfp hugely overestimates the calories burned. Always bank them, to speed-up weight loss, or for a special occasion / evening out / offset weekend excesses.

I don't class 10,000 steps as exercise, but as a bare minimum target for the day. Exercise is anything on top. Harsh, but this weight-loss lark is hard. No corners to cut. But great you are back in the 11s! 6 months ago I was 12 st 9. Am now 11 7. It can be done.

Sorry about the insomnia jonty & not. It's awful when it hits. Hats off to you both for still doing the exercise / booking classes.

I want to loose 1lb by end of week too. Scales did sneak to 11 6.75, but swiftly bounced back to 11 7.

Have a good day everyone!

Not2bObvious · 07/02/2017 08:02

How many calories have you set yourself in mfp mum (and yep Fitbit is a bit of a big talker, another thread I watch someone said it counted 100 steps they did while they were asleep🤔) For example I find 1200 vv hard but if I allow myself a limit of 1500, I can manage to come in under that without too much stress. It didn't go on overnight & it won't come off that way either. If you're too stringent you buckle & rebel. Also is the 10,000 your normal activity or new since you started this? If it's normal, your body expects it now.
It's a f*cking war that's what it is, never mind military operation as I said last week.

OP posts:
MumBod · 07/02/2017 08:09

It is a war, quite right!

10k is fairly new to me - I had a very sedentary job up to this summer, now I'm walking everywhere, working on my allotment, doing Pilates and my Davina DVD (though that's had to take aback seat lately as I've had sciatica).

My calorie intake is high (1590) because I want to lose the weight sustainably and slowly - a lifestyle change rather than a diet, iyswim.

However, I think I've been pushing that idea too far and stupidly using my exercise cals to eat and drink crap. Time to stop.

MumBod · 07/02/2017 08:13

A back seat. Not sure what an aback seat is Hmm

CantstandmLMs · 07/02/2017 08:17

I'm combining MFP with Fitbit and 16:8 most days.

My only problem is Fitbit has stopped communicating to MFP so steps don't show up but on the Fitbit app what I've eaten and exercise entered ends up on the Fitbit app Confused I've tried unlinking and linking them again but nothing. Oh well I'm entering manually for now.

Anyone use it connected to Fitbit?

It's also conntected to the life fitness equipment at my gym which is cool as it sends calories burned straight to the app.

MumBod · 07/02/2017 08:24

I use MFP connected to Fitbit. It should work if you disconnect and reconnect it. There are troubleshooting guides on the Fitbit forum.

Brilliant that the gym equipment is linked. So motivating!

CantstandmLMs · 07/02/2017 09:19

Yes as soon as you finish (say 30 mins on cross trainer) it flashes up and the calories are quite accurate I imagine as MFP sends your height/weight details to the machine.

Bathsheba3 · 07/02/2017 12:54

Can't help on the techy stuff, sorry. All I know is that I need to eat less. Exercise (for me) is an added bonus.

B = all bran
L = tuna + salad + lentils
D = salmon roasted with ginger, garlic, lemon & chilli, brown/wild rice, & veggies (sugar snaps, baby sweet corn, & broccoli).
S = berries (eaten already) & wine (saving for later!)

Already done 10,000 steps today, plus more to come (car back in garage!). Will run tomorrow.

Not2bObvious · 07/02/2017 13:48

My Fitbit committed suicide a while back and I haven't bothered to replace it so I'm no help either. My phone tracks steps, not that I've been doing much these days but since I do my classes I'm not too bothered. Well done bath on getting all the steps in so early, I'm getting class dread - I'm fine once I get there, it's the thoughts of it that kill me (and then the actual class kills me!)
Bit bored today, most of my work done so twiddling thumbs a bit...hardly a big issue but I do prefer to be busy, stops me thinking about biscuits😉 I think I'll go to the post box, that'll kill 15 minutes

OP posts:
Needastrongone · 07/02/2017 15:35

Afternoon.

NeedtoEat Didn't MFP notify you that your calories intake was low? I once forgot to log anything other a few bits and it shouted at me when I tried to complete the diary for the day!

Not Thank you for your kind comment last night.

Jonty Sorry about the lack of sleep. I'm waking around 3am, getting back off about 4.30am, then back up early to sort the pony but the extra bit of sleep must be good, as I don't feel too bad.

Bath Salmon sounds utterly lovely.

Mum Sorry, I've no idea re the fitbit, I have a Garmin, which is an expensive bit of kit for running/cycling/HRM etc. Pretty accurate step count and calorie tracking as far as I can see. Well done for upping your activity levels.

I'm with Bath. I think that as a society, we have become so sedentary as a whole that we have forgotten what just being 'normally' active is. I grew up in the 70's/80's. We walked everywhere, play out etc. I bet even a day of housework then would involve far more calorie expenditure that it does now. So, I don't count my steps, which average over 15k a day, because I consider that to be normal. I do log exercise calories, as the Garmin is so accurate and it does it automatically anyway.

Anyway, lots of movement today. 2 long dog walks. A cardi/core class this morning. 6 miles with my friend at lunch and I'm doing Boot Camp with DD later.

I'm way less hungry today, but ate well over 600 calories more than 'goal' yesterday. It was all good stuff though, so the volume of what I ate was amazing!!!! I bloody needed it.

Today, food.
Breakfast - Big bowl of porridge, made with coconut milk. Blueberries.
Lunch. M&S tumeric chicken wrap with sweet potato. 2 clementines, 2 chocolates (all gone now....sadly).
Dinner - JO Minestrone soup, crusty bread.
Snack - banana if I need it. Wine.

JontyDoggle37 · 07/02/2017 17:15

Argh body says no. Since this morning have developed a temperature, hurt all over and chest is tight and sore. On train home, DH on way to get DS instead of me, in just having dinner and going to bed with ibuprofen. When will it end?☹️ (I will stop being an absolute misery guts one day I promise)

Not2bObvious · 07/02/2017 17:34

You're having a dreadful run of it jonty😔 Maybe an early night will knock it on the head. For you 💐 & Brew
In the door about 30 mins, showered & dinner for him & the nippers on. The class this afternoon was a new level beyond brutal, maybe barbaric? Watching apple tree yard on catch up, re-read the book so want to see how they pan it out, big Brew for me 😉 Although I'd prefer a Gin

Star for your workout not. I've had my allocated snacks Wine . Could very easily have more, but have just got lemon + hot water instead Halo. Thank goodness I'm off sugar - I just don't have the willpower to have a bit of Cake, or 1 choccie bar, and stop. Rice cakes aren't the same, but serving a purpose in damage limitation Halo. Trying hard to beet you on emoji's Not Wink. Am I nearly there? Hmm

Bathsheba3 · 07/02/2017 21:29

Hope everyone have a better night's sleep tonight, and you feel better tomorrow jonty Flowers

Not2bObvious · 07/02/2017 21:39

I was thinking I was a tad too emotional-expressive bath, you are a worthy component, I would wink but the emoti-bank is empty, sad face/wink
