I managed to do a jog today, around 5k in 35-36 minutes. I'm in awe of your 10k speed need (the need for speed eh?😉) My goal with running for years has been to do a 5k in under 30 minutes, I managed 32 minutes but that was a long time ago now. I'll just keep plugging it away. There isn't a competitive bone in my body so it's not a big thing - I'm just happy I've managed 5 exercise sessions this week. Having red curry & rice for lunch - had a good cooked breakfast at 10 so going to hold out for another hour. V cold here today but gorgeous and sunny. Definately lifts the spirits to see the sun even if it is Baltic!

Well done Not I'm in awe of you managing five exercise sessions in a week! I'm going to aim for three strength training sessions and three rides on my horse in the next seven days...

Not2bObvious · 05/02/2017 16:22

Thanks jonty - I'm delighted I managed it, feeling back to myself (whatever the heck that is lol!)

Needastrongone · 05/02/2017 16:54

Not I think you are doing fantastically. Exercising 5 times a week takes a lot of commitment. You sound so positive and upbeat at the minute too. We had the sunshine here yesterday and it's been dry here today too. Hoping spring is literally round the corner, as well as metaphorically.

ps - I never knew I could run fast. I was decidedly average at all sports in my teens and not at all active, went to the gym a lot in my 20's but just for fitness and not competition. It wasn't until I did a Race for Life when the DC were small I discovered I was quite good at something sporty. Grin

Hello all, please can I join?

I'm 4 weeks into the weight loss attempt and I love my fitness pal, it helped me lose weight successfully previously.

I have 1200 calories per day with an aim to lose 2lb a week. I have lost 4lb so far, I think it had been slow as I have started doing more exercise. I am veggie and like mfp as I can make sure I get enough protein. I eat lots of eggs, some quorn, beans and lentils and lots of veggies. Not loads of carbs really but bread every so often and rice/potatoes most days.

Today:

Breakfast: Bran flakes with grapes, Greek yoghurt and almond milk (281)

Lunch: Omelette with spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes, and veggie sausages (329)

Dinner will be: baked potato with cottage cheese, avocado & salad (522)

It's great seeing people's 'what I had to eat today', I find it really helpful. It looks like lots of people have made amazing progress. I would like to get to 8.5 st and I'm currently 10st 4 (only 5'2"). I have a weakness for booze and try and have every other day as a non booze day, although it's usually 1 in 3.

Not2bObvious · 05/02/2017 19:50

Hi acq, sorry can't type the name all out! You're v welcome. I think 4lb is very good, you're probably close to healthy bmi at 10.4 so it can be harder to drop weight when you're in that zone. I'm distinctly carnivore so you'll have to ignore my food! Keep posting, always love to have new folk to bore😉

OP posts:
acquiescence · 05/02/2017 20:03

Thanks Not2! Ha, I don't mind carnivorous food ideas, all good for inspiration of meals where I can replace with quorn etc.

Bathsheba3 · 05/02/2017 20:06

Welcome acqui - well done on 4 lbs down already! Sesame will be v pleased as you'll be joining her in the 9s within the fortnight, all going well! I know where you're at with the booze...

Amazing runs - both Need & Not. Frustrating on your start need, but you know what you have to do next time. You both spurred me into doing a "long" run today & I managed 9km in just under an hour. Thank you! In my prime I could do 10k in 56 mins. Maybe I need to set myself that as a goal?

And loved your comment not about "feeling back to myself" feels spot on here too. Feeling confident about sticking to plan, and shifting a chunk off during feb. Go us! Glad you had a nice eve out, and managed to stop at 1800. V impressive. How are you doing on the dress? I have no idea why but I've just been browsing bikinis online

No sugar still working - and thank goodness. Have saved myself from huge amounts of cake, and home-made brownies, both of which I have looked at, had a good sniff, and passed by. Given that wine=snack and not technically sugar, I'm not completely depriving myself Wink

B today = sm amount all-bran
L = chicken, 1 small tortilla wrap, loads salad, sm mayo
D = Roast chicken dinner, sm amount potatoes, sm amount cauli cheese, and rest of plate boiled veg

sugar - you are amazing, work damn-long hours, and put in some serious steps. You are perfectly allowed to "derail", although I reckon your derail by today's standards, is very different from derailing a year or two ago. You are brilliant and reining-yourself in when you can. Again - don't deny yourself the splurge if you need one, as a minor blip will be so much better than a full derail.

Daw & sesame , Loli & everyone else I haven't name dropped - sorry. I've just realised the time and looking forward to a bit of escapism in the form of Call the Midwife Wine

Not2bObvious · 05/02/2017 21:23

Ooh I've been watching that too bath, Sister Ursula has been making me Angry I was complaining to dh that she's been ruining it for me. I won't say anything else in case I say something to spoil it for anyone recording it.

JontyDoggle37 · 06/02/2017 07:45

Morning
Welcome acq
Had a lovely weekend with an all-healthy family, which makes a change of late! Didn't manage to weigh or do my workout this morning as DS woke up early at 5.15 and then turned into a limpet, or, if I put him down, a limpet that screamed 🙄. Food all planned for the day though and well within target at the moment (probably enough for a much needed Starbucks😁). Determined to get over to ride my horse this evening after work too. Hope everyone has a good Monday!

Not2bObvious · 06/02/2017 07:48

Still 11.8.4 this morning but that's par for the course after the week - if I manage a light day I might be back to Fridays 11.6.2
The dress bath, ahh yes. Well I'm not quite accepting defeat just yet as I have 4 weeks from Thursday to squeeze into it but no great change. Hardly that surprising as I reckoned I needed to shift around 10 pound to get into it - or get a row of ribs removed😁 It's the reason I pushed myself to start running again as I found it good for waist/mid section whittling. Let's just say work in progress. Multigrain toast (1.5 slices) with 20gr of natural PB for breakfast, going to try Greek yog with a few nuts for midday snack, omelette at 2'ish and meatloaf with mash for dinner. Either going for a 40 minute class with a short jog before & a brisk walk back or an hourclass with a drive to/fro - let's see how the day progresses. 3 classes target this week
How's everyone else feeling for the week ahead? Any goal setting going on?

OP posts:
Lolimax · 06/02/2017 10:19

Morning all! Kettle bells on Saturday was absolutely brutal but awesome and included press-ups and burpees. I'm even taking 19 year old (joining the reserves) DS next week. Went out for a meal and actually shared a lush pud with DH! Go me. Nice 7 mile walk yesterday but I was floored by a cold by last night so in bed by 7 and missed CTM so no spoilers!!
Hope you all had a good weekend.

acquiescence · 06/02/2017 11:15

Thanks bath and jonty

I've had overnight oats with almond milk, raspberries, quark and banana, then come to work with no lunch- going to have to make a supermarket stop and try and find a healthy option! Really should be more organised.
Sympathy here on the early start jonty, it was 5.30 here with lots of snot and coughing from the toddler.

It makes it a long and hungry day! Hoping to get he chance to do a workout DVD at some point this evening.

Hope it's a good Monday for everyone.

JontyDoggle37 · 06/02/2017 12:30

Hmm. Monday is working out to be a bit crappy. Fighting the urge to go out and splurge on food as a reaction...

Not2bObvious · 06/02/2017 13:19

Probably too late to discourage you jonty but resist if you can - I had my yog with nuts (c 220 cals) and if anything I'm hungrier than I was before! About 1.5 hours til access to food so I'm having to gnash my teeth & suck it up😩

OP posts:
Bathsheba3 · 06/02/2017 14:31

Resist food Jonty. Hot cup of camomile instead? Sorry you are having a bad day. Any conciliation (not) I'm having a rubbish day so far too. Hoping I can file mine away in a day or two to PMT. At this precise moment I feel like climbing under my duvet for a sob. Will take heed of my own advice for a change and make myself a camomile tea.

By my clock you've reached food now Not. Hope it was something really tasty & satisfying. Again more conciliation probably not my scales were exactly the same again today too. Better than having gone up, but exactly the same? Not even 1/4 lb movement up OR down. Still can't talk myself into getting new ones in the fear that they have been under-estimating my weight for the past 5+ years.

Not2bObvious · 06/02/2017 16:16

Arggg! Ended up having to bring the kids to buy a birthday present for a party & we had to eat on the run. It could have been worse but I wasn't planning on having a 450 calorie lunch (cheeseburger & a third of a portion of fries) I "think" all things considered this was as good as it could get. I'll have to pare back the dinner now but I'll do my best.
Sorry to hear of the bad work days ladies, me Mondays are sh*tty at the best of times. Nearly there

OP posts:
Needastrongone · 06/02/2017 16:43

Afternoon.

Welcome Acq Your breakfast sounded lovely. I will be looking to you for vegetarian ideas. We have having a meat free Monday, starting from today. It's been on my 'to do' list for a while.

Bath Great run yesterday. 56 mins for 10k seems perfectly do-able for you, but depends if you want that goal. If you fancy continuing to run just to enjoy, or whatever other exercise, that's great too.

Sorry you are having a bad day Jonty and Bath.

Not 450 ain't so bad, I sometimes grab lunch from M&S. Most of their healthy option sandwiches are 350 plus. At least. I have a 3 bean wrap, that's over 400.

Sesame Sorry, I missed your post yesterday. I don't have a weight in mind one way or the other. I guess I look pretty slight in normal life, but stick me at the start line of a race, and I look just like most of the other women at the faster end of the spectrum. I look normal, fit and healthy. Think Mo Farah or Paula Radcliffe, scrawny but super fit (not that I am in their league Grin). There's no denying the lack of weight is a benefit to speed. Not wanting to lose any more though.

That said, I've lost a bit more this morning, so here is what I've eaten or will eat.
Breakfast - Half a large avo on toast, using almond butter, big bowl of fruit and full fat natural yogurt.
Lunch - Tuna bagel, banana, 3 chocolates.
Dinner - Roasted chick pea and broccoli burritos. Salad. Cheese.
Snacks - Graze box, Nakd bar, clementines, big handful of nuts.
Wine

I don't want to sound like a twat on this thread and I don't want to stop folk posting, so I will stop posting and just read if appropriate.

JontyDoggle37 · 06/02/2017 17:18

Need don't you dare stop posting! We 'need' you (like what I did there?!?😁) you give us all good advice and share lovely menus that may mean maintenance or gain for you but would result in a loss for most of the rest of us. Don't leave 😱

Bathsheba3 · 06/02/2017 17:36

It could've been much worse not. Don't despair. I actually eyed-up individual quiches in M&S the other day (thought friend was coming over). They are well over 450 calories each. Cheeseburger would have been far more satisfying!!!!

Love your posts Need - why the talk about going? Jonty is spot on too - you are very inspirational Star

Needastrongone · 06/02/2017 18:01

Grin Jonty.

I just don't want to put folk off posting about losing weight if I am here grumbling about losing weight. Smile Or come over as a smug twat. Which I am not, I promise. I think you lot are awesome.

I've just started to make the tea for tonight and it's really easy. Chickpeas, broccoli, onion and red pepper all chopped up small. Mixed up with soy sauce, olive oil, cumin, coriander, seasoning, smoked paprika (like a fajita mix almost), then roasted with chopped garlic for the final 20, and served in tortillas/burritos/wraps etc. With salad/cheese/avo whatever.

It's from a recipe book called Thug Kitchen (Eat like you give a fuck). Honestly, that's the title.

Smells good so far. Very easy.

Not2bObvious · 06/02/2017 18:43

Don't be going anywhere need, your input is just as valid as anyone else's - so you don't need to lose weight but you need to maintain and chatting here should help keep that in perspective. You used mfp to drop the few pounds that were holding you back, now you're using to keep track. Besides we need someone to try out all the recipes so we can live vicariously through you😉
Didn't know when himself was getting home so decided to do a fitness blender workout. Ha ha bloody HA. Smug thick here thought this'll be a piece of piddle (coz I'm like gangsta fit nowHmm) Yeah, laughing weeping on the other side of my sweaty mug now! Joking aside it was a decent workout so I'm feeling I worked off at least half the burger'binge.

Hi all, was looking for a bit of advice.

I have been using MFP for 7 weeks. It suggested that I eat 1300 a day. I'm 43, 5f11 and was 15 stone (haven't weigh myself since I started) so don't know if I've lost.

I like to stick to the same foods (ish) daily. I don't like having to think about food too much as I find it all far too complicated. I gave up drinking (minus one night a week - was drinking far too much) when I started.

B: Nothing /2 boiled eggs/banana and a low cal alpen bar.
L: salad / veg sticks
D: chicken or steak with salad or veg.

I'm so confused with the difference between calorie counting and low carbs ! I'm completely lost with it all. For example I don't eat much fruit because I know it's carby .. but then does that matter if I'm calorie counting ?

Any advice ?

Not2bObvious · 06/02/2017 19:28

Does what you're eating come to 1300 calories Ineed? It doesn't sound like a lot of food. I don't necessarily believe carbs are the enemy, certainly reducing them does help as I think by their nature they can be v moreish (thinking white toast/cake/biscuits)
Is there a reason you haven't weighed yourself? If you've stuck to that amount of food for 7 weeks you must have lost a fair bit but are you struggling on this repetitive diet, you could get a lot more out of 1300 cals - which btw is quite low for your height. Are you active at all? I'm sorry, I seem to asking you lots of questions but no real answers

INeedToEat · 06/02/2017 19:44

Thanks for replying Not2b.

I'm not a massive eater nor a picker. I think my weight gain was mainly down to wine.

MFP says I eat between 700-1000 calories a day. I don't drink tea or coffee and drink 2L + per day of water.

I'm not currently doing an formal exercise - outside of walking about at work (don't sit behind a desk all day). I will start .. just wanted to lose a stone or so both to lower the risk to my knees (used to run 30 + miles a week and they are very painful now).

For lunch sometimes I have 3 ryvita with cucumber on or if I havent had eggs for breakfast I might have 2 poached eggs on 1 slice of bread. So do eat outside what I stated and above.. but not too much. If I have a take away I will have chicken (the cubed one) and salad kebab (with a box of extra salad and no pitta).

I don't own scales so can't weigh myself regularly.
