Who's up for the 7lbs in September challenge?

ponygirlcurtis · 01/09/2016 08:32

Following on from June, July and August's threads, we're aiming to lose 7lbs.
(Posting as Rshard is still on holiday - hope you had a great time!)

All regimes welcome. Support and encouragement guaranteed!

My starting weight for September is 11st 5.25lbs. (I actually ended yesterday at 6.5lbs but the scales have jumped down again so I am having it!). That means I lost 5lbs in August. I found having this thread helped my focus and determination, if it helps anyone else, fantastic! Smile

Good luck everyone!

Thanks for advice everyone.

Quim fast day with a hangover is tough.

Pickachu that's fantastic well done.

Msheffalump rain is useful for something if it helps you resist. Smile

Dyrne that is exactally what i would usually do, write off the whole weekend because of one bad day. Will have to resist tomorrow. We always seem to eat 3 times more meat than usual with a bbq, hope the weather holds and you enjoy it. Smile

Pikachu, great start! I've been building up my walking, i've been thinking about how to add in 'proper' exercise to my routine.

Heffalump you have willpower of steel - cheap magnums within easy distance! Good idea about not fixating on a target too much.

Dyrne oooooh why did you say the B word! Grin

Phil, rather than focus on how many calories you have tomorrow, keep an eye on the total across the week. As long as you don't go over your TDEE x 7 you should at least maintain where you are (or you could claim back some calories with exercise - good excuse to dance your socks off at the wedding!).

If it helps, with bbqs, pretend you're on one of the all meat and no carbs diet. Bugger the bread. Meat and a fork, that's all you need.

The no fixed target thing: if you've got a set target and you miss it, you can so easily end up in a negative mental spiral. Which is really not conducive to the sort of positive, optimistic, self-esteem-including mindset that helps you to make healthy choices. Or that's the theory, anyway!

Quim According to MFP, you can have 5 rashers of bacon within your 500kcal limit... Just sayin' Wink

I think you're on to something with bbqs Heffalump, I've been having sandwich thins etc instead of rolls, but ditching the bread part entirely sounds like the best way forward. I'm having half a rack of ribs tonight (300kcals) so no need for carbs :D

So I weighed this afternoon and my starting weight is actually a smidge under 58K - not as bad as I had feared! So 7lbs actually would put me in shooting range of my goal weight. I'm glad this thread came along, I find it really helps.

Prawn stir fry for dinner - loads of spinach, basil, mushrooms and red pepper, with a bit of goat's cheese on top. Mmm.

No exercise today but only ate just over 1000 calories - really wasn't hungry. I'll probably be starving when I wake up tomorrow though Smile Trying to resist the urge to weigh myself until next Thursday!

Can I join I've just had a baby he is a month old today I've lost all the baby weight I put on (1stone 10lb) but want to lose another stone

So I'm just checking in.

Newbie here.

3rd baby and never been heavier (or more unhappy with myself). Was 11st 1, but weigh 9st 11lb now. Still overweight though (am v short) and need to lose another stone at least.

What has worked for me is MFP. I can't believe how much I used to eat without thinking about calories! I don't starve myself (breastfeeding anyway) I have around 1700 calories a day and I try to do walking and stationary bike, no time for much else.

Haven't cut out treats, just cut down.

Apparently it's about losing inches off your waist and not weighing (but I still weigh myself all the time!!)

Good luck everyone x

I agree just focusing on the meat element iis the way to go at a BBQ - wish it was BBQ weather here, it's cold and rainy. Sad could totally go a rack of ribs right now

Planning on taking my wee one swimming later, that will be my exercise for the day, chasing a 4-year-old round a current pool!

Hope everyone has a good Saturday.

I'm joining after a very indulgent summer (two holidays and OH's 30th!). Back at Slimming World on Monday. Previously lost 4st ish with SW eight years ago and have kept majority of it off, but want to get down to previous lowest weight of 10st 9lb. Not sure what I am at the moment Blush

TaffyandTeenyTaffy · 03/09/2016 11:10

Bit late but I'm in. Just back from hols and weighed in at 11st 10lbs this morning. Have been gaining and losing the same few pounds over the summer. Doing WW but our class is closing next week - so hope you guys can keep me on track and get the scales moving in the right direction again!

(11st 3lbs would take me to just over 3 stone in total and leave me with about another half a stone to my goal)

cupofrooibos, you're part of my weight loss plan! Ten pints of tea a day is normal for me. It's a lot of milk. Add in my habit of swigging a pint of whichever big bottle (semi or full fat) straight out of the fridge... it's probably not helping. Rooibos is the way forward!

Report
cupofrooibos · 03/09/2016 11:53

MsHeffalump hooray for rooibos! I love the stuff but usually with a hearty glug of milk so need to get used to having it as it comes. Would also recommend mugs of hot water to replace brews - sounds joyless but i actually really enjoy the taste of boiled water and so hydrating.

Hello. Can I join please? I've faffed around with the same 2 or 3 pounds over the summer but feel more focused again now that routine is returning

I am too ashamed to say my starting weight but it's x stone 6.5lbs. So my aim is to get into the next stone bracket

Another newbie jumping in if that's OK Smile I lost 3.5st last year and got down to 9st8lb but have managed to put some back on since January and am now at 10st13 so cross with myself for slacking.

I'd love to get down to 10st again over the next couple of months.

Well, it started pissing it down last night so the BBQ idea went out the window. I'm not sure how it happened, but DP and I ended up meeting up with a friend for dinner and had quite a heavy night - so much for the no booze theory :/ Slight mitigation in that due to exercise I was 'only' about 250kcals over.

Oh well, am drawing a line under it and moving forward. Today i've been surprisingly hangover-free so am on track for a good day. plus DP is away today and tomorrow so cant be such a bloody bad influence!

I was doing so well until we had a dinner party last night - drank a couple of bottles of prosecco and are too much cheese.
Determined not to let my hangover derail me for a second day and so far so good. I did do a big gym session yesterday morning with 90 mins of weights and interval sprints so hopefully that nudges the balance slightly back in my favour! Scales still showing 9.6.
Good luck over the weekend everyone, I find it so hard to be good!

I've run on the treadmill and taken the fog for a walk today, and only had some veggie sushi for lunch so I'm doing ok today

Report

What's really helped me is knowing that 1lb of fat is approx 3500 calories. So over a 7 day period if you cut calories by just 250 a day, and exercise 250 a day, that will give you your 1lb weight loss per week.

One night of indulgence won't be an issue if it all balances out by the end of week.

I have kept alcohol, and treats in my diet as I want to maintain things when I'm done with weight loss, and not just put it all back on.

19lb loss so far just doing the 250/250 thing. Weigh my stuff, count my calories, bit of walking/stationary bike each day.

14lbs to go!!!

Dyrne, even at 250 cals over you would probably still be under your TDEE so still in deficit. You too Skala. Wink

Carrie that's fantastic going, I like your approach and it's obviously working well for you.

(I did giggle at you taking the fog for a walk, BitOutOfPractice - got a picture in my head of that!)

I'm finding Pinterest really good for meal ideas. I made a black bean casserole last night which while wasn't amazing it was perfectly edible.

Sort of thing which could be used for lunches at work as well which is something I struggle with as its so easy to make sandwiches

Done 90 mins in the gym today including 300 calories in the cross trainer/treadmill and then weights. Then went for a two hour walk this afternoon.

Toast for breakfast
Cheese and ham omlette for lunch
Chicken and veg fajitas for dinner

Had a frappacinno in Starbucks this afternoon but it was a small one! Not great though.
