Who's up for the 7lbs in September challenge?

ponygirlcurtis · 01/09/2016 08:32

Following on from June, July and August's threads, we're aiming to lose 7lbs.
(Posting as Rshard is still on holiday - hope you had a great time!)

All regimes welcome. Support and encouragement guaranteed!

My starting weight for September is 11st 5.25lbs. (I actually ended yesterday at 6.5lbs but the scales have jumped down again so I am having it!). That means I lost 5lbs in August. I found having this thread helped my focus and determination, if it helps anyone else, fantastic! Smile

Good luck everyone!

Very well done Ginger! That's brill!

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 29/09/2016 09:25

I haven't stuck to any healthy eating since January, so the result is entirely down to you ladies! Flowers

Helloheyhi · 29/09/2016 09:32

Well done Ginger what a great achievement!

For me the one change I have been adhered to is my salt intake. I have a terrible salt habit and have almost got to a point where I have realised that I don't need added salts in all food!

Helloheyhi · 29/09/2016 09:34

Don't know where the been sneaked from! Just like my salt which has a habit to sneak in all my food I guess Grin

BitOutOfPractice · 29/09/2016 10:20

OK folks, my scales have gone up and stuck there, despite me being as good as gold. Give me your "get things moving when you're stuck" tips

BitOutOfPractice · 29/09/2016 10:20

I'm glugging water at my desk

Helloheyhi · 29/09/2016 10:23

"Your body is a beautifully complex laboratory of biochemical reactions, and all it takes to get you stuck is for one little thing to go wrong. Maybe it’s inflammation and water retention? Maybe it’s a digestive problem? Maybe it’s your hormones?" Grin enough of Dr Oz

On a serious note how long has it been stuck?

BitOutOfPractice · 29/09/2016 10:35

Only a week. But I'm impatient and I've been so good Blush

Rshard · 29/09/2016 10:43

Final weigh of September leaves me with a 5 loss. Reasonably happy with that and feeling more in the swing of things. I'll start Offtober at 11, 6 so 7lbs would be awesome as I would be in the 10's!

Helloheyhi · 29/09/2016 10:43

I know the feeling! Keep doing what you are doing and it will move.
Try some HIIT if you get a chance. If you have access to weights, lift and put down. If you have a big hill near you, try and walk it. If you are calorie counting, think you need to adjust it for every 10 pounds you lose. I might be wrong there though. Basically just change your routine and sooner or later it is bound to get moving. Sorry haven't got a better advice. Hope one of the other gals will soon come and give you some better ones.

Helloheyhi · 29/09/2016 10:44

Good going Rshard

BitOutOfPractice · 29/09/2016 10:50

Rshard that's great!

I'm waiting till the last possible minute to share my September loss

Hello hello I can't lift weights at the moment, I have a frozen shoulder which I can't believe I haven't moaned about here before I am walking uphill very fast on the treadmill three times a week at least on days I'm not running. I haven't adjusted my calories since I started which was 29lbs ago...I might have a twiddle with MFP and see what it says. Thank you for indulging my sulk Grin

Helloheyhi · 29/09/2016 10:55

Ah not to worry at all, also I think it slows down if you haven't got much to lose?
Great job on 29 loss! Hope your shoulder gets better soon Flowers

BitOutOfPractice · 29/09/2016 10:58

I've still got 2 stone to lose Blush

I've just checked MFP and it's still saying 1200 calories a day for a 1-2lb a week loss. Guess I just need to keep on keeping on.

Water intake is the one thing that's slipped of late so I will try and get that back on track while I have a few office-based days close to the loo!

Helloheyhi · 29/09/2016 11:06

You will get there in no time at all. Yep keep on keeping on.

Loo trips are a PITA, only downside of drinking copious amount of water grrrhh esp if you are in an open plan office like me Blush

Rshard · 29/09/2016 11:15

lol at the perils of loo trips in an open plan office. Same here! Combined with getting my 250 steps an hour. I'm up and down like a yoyo!

QuimReaper · 29/09/2016 13:10

Arrrrgh I hate the constant peeing! Y'all know I try to get in a good walk on my "good days" and I have to map it out to go via a public loo! Blush It's SO annoying!

Your loss so far is ASTONISHING BOOP so I think a week in standstill here and there is to be expected. You're not approaching TOTM by any chance? Although I'm sure that would have occurred to you! I find after an annoying scale week, you sometimes get a sudden drop. Keep glugging the water and peeing for England Grin

I want to hear more examples of altered mindsets as per Rshard's post - it'll be a great roundup to the thread if we all talk about what we've achieved in terms of changed habits, as well as what we've achieved on the scales.

For me it mainly is the swimming (thanks Rshard Smile) but also getting back into not reaching for the wine during the week. I got so good at it earlier in the summer that it barely even occurred to me any more, but after the constant indulgence of the honeymoon and the stress of the renovations I found myself having a glass in a bubble bath after a long day, or even worse, thinking "well I've been good on the food front so I can have a glass of wine" - which is such a bonkers sabotage. It's a creeping habit and really affects my sleep as well as my weight, and for me part of being "in the zone" is just not entertaining the idea and defaulting to a tonic water or tea if I want something nice to sip on.

I wouldn't say I'm totally there yet, but I think I've made good progress in the right direction this month.

BitOutOfPractice · 29/09/2016 13:59

It was actually really interesting Quim Grin

Things I've done well this month:

  • I have not missed my FitBit step target once. I now make walking a part of my day completely as a habit
  • Eating breakfast every day. I've never been a big breakfast eater but I have had a protein-based breakfast every day this month
  • finally got back up to running 5km non-stop

Things I'd like to improve:

  • water drinking
  • not drinking in the week. I am exactly like Rshard - the wine creeps back up on me really easily if I'm not careful

Things

Rshard · 29/09/2016 14:07

Really interesting quim and BOOP.

I'm going to focus on drinking more water in October and hitting my Fitbit step target - thanks for the inspiration ladies!

I sometimes get a bit desk bound in the office which doesn't help the step target. But I run and also walk with some friends, could be a bit more consistent with that. Also having a bash at some yoga, only a beginner class but I am not bendy! Not one bit!

BitOutOfPractice · 29/09/2016 14:11

Rsard yoga is blummin' hard work isn't it?

I also have a very desk-bound job but fortunately I work for myself so I can just jump up and stomp round the block when my FitBit commands it

DoinItFine · 29/09/2016 16:31

I have neither gained nor lost this week. Some partying, lots of exercise, some unhealthy food choices (largely through necessity).

Started the month - 10st 7lbs
Finish - 9st 13lbs

8lbs this month, so slightly below my target of 10lbs, but pretty good as I broke my podge barrier.

I am in the zone in terns of exercise and not drinking, although I am away this weekend and will be drinking and have less access to healthy food, so we'll see.

On we go into October.

Well done, everyone.

The world is a lighter planet now than at the start of the month Grin

DoinItFine · 29/09/2016 16:33

Also, I have the same tendency with slipping booze habits.

I get so that there always seems to be a good reason for a glass of wine, and it is such a waste of calories/tiredness.

BitOutOfPractice · 29/09/2016 17:30

Oh crap my DP has just been made redundant. He's in the pub drowning his sorrows so I shall have to stay very sober tonight so can rescue him from the station that he wakes up in after falling asleep on the train

Rshard · 29/09/2016 18:44

Is it hard work boop? I thought it was all calmness and zen? Rotten news about your DH's job, hope he finds a new position soon.

doin 8lbs is a fantastic loss for the month! Well done!
