Urgh. 1/4 of a lb this week. I don't understand as I haven't gone up to more that 1400. And even that was only two days. Every other day I've hit my targets.

8lbs is amazing. Well done wish I could lose like that.

I'm determined to stick to it but I'm pretty disheartened today. I just don't understand.

Fitterbysixty · 16/09/2016 08:52

I'm now under 14 stone for the first time in years, not much under but it's going the right way. DH is away all weekend so it's going to be eggs and courgettes for me for the next couple of days, it looks a lot on the plate for relatively few calories.

Dawhead my dodgy knee was what pushed me into losing some weight. I read up on knee exercises for people with bad knees and started with some lying side abduction exercises in an attempt to strengthen the muscles around the knee but because I am a doofus I only did them on the "weak knee". Fast forward to minus two stone and the so called weak knee is now better than the good knee. I still don't do lunges but I can now do squats and plies. Running is still out I think, maybe in another stone or two.

Hopefully I like a walk and I try not to begrudge the time it takes from my day. Today is not looking like a walking day though, I'm not a huge fan of getting wet.

Sugarandsalt · 16/09/2016 09:06

Hmm well I've started the weekend by having a large hot breakfast. Not the best start, but at least it will set me up for a long day!

BendydickCuminsnatch · 16/09/2016 09:21

coragreta I was 15stone 7 so that probably helps lbs fall off quicker! My cal limit is 1200 and I'm usually around about there. Typical day has been:
7am green smoothie
1pm soup or salad
5pm normal dinner type meal
Not eating after 6pm so have a long fast period
Lots of protein to keep me nice and full.
Been seeing a PT since about May.
The main thing is I'm thinking about food a lot less and therefore stressing a lot less. Also because my meals are so close together I'm not snacking at all.
Just hope I can keep it up! Fully expect the rate of weight loss to slow soon.

Not2bObvious · 16/09/2016 09:32

Cora is that over a week or just from the start of the week? I'm getting mixed up with so many of us hot steppers (that's my new nn for us scales jumpers!) I totally understand the frustration- you have been very good on the calories. Amy chance you're bunged up? Or you could be due a whoosh of weight loss soon, weight loss is rarely linear broken record I am
Tmi alert, between my weigh in and running around, my own situation shifted! New weigh in @11.2.6 - 1lb down over the week, much happier with that

Bathsheba3 · 16/09/2016 10:00

Cora - come and join me on the bloaty bench. Might just be you & I hanging out for a couple of days, but I'm the same. I have stuck to my 1200 (bar extra 50 cals) but have gained a lb this morning. Frustrating, but there's no way it can be anything but bloat. Plus I've consumed so much veg over the last few days am sure it will work its way through, sooner rather than later I hope. Actually v hungry this morning so had lovely egg on rye bread with spinach. Delish.

So last night I didn't have any prosecco, no wine, no cocktail sausages, no crisps. I had munched on my crudités, sipping fizzy water.

Welcome Bendy. I saw you on your other thread. Glad you came to join us!

1/4 since Monday as I've decided Friday should be my official weigh on day.
I don't feel overly bloated bit am drinking loads of water so hope that helps. Maybe a big drop due soon but I'm at a wedding tomorrow so don't think that will help.

coragreta · 16/09/2016 10:14

Thanks for the support.

Not2bObvious · 16/09/2016 11:42

I think that's a good decision keep, no calories burned in beating yourself up! I love my Fitbit, it's been very encouraging to see the steps going up & I love the way it links to mfp. I don't know how accurate the calorie burn is but tbh if you stick to 1200 for 1 week, you'll see a loss. Get your water in and a decent bit of walking at least. I've bought most of what I need for my little ones party - I think I have to stop now, I could be never finished the way I'm going. House full of mini bars etc. Oh gosh this is going to be hard😩

DawheadAwgusEeentock · 16/09/2016 12:07

Not2b fair play on thinking of joining a bootcamp - hopefully you get a space - and 1400 is very good for yest. And that dressing gown sounds divine and it's pink woohoo! Gosh between you and Hopefully we are getting such inspiration for nice non-food treats.

Well done on the loss Star wahoo! And glad things are...ahem...moving again.

Hope you have a lovely weekend though - birthday's are so special so I think you have permission to indulge a bit.

Thanks Hopefully. I don't think I've had any significant losses yet, so I wish I knew Grin but maybe the hunger is some sort of reset button for your metabolism before the next loss? I know what you mean about cake mix (and again here I am preaching advice I don't follow) but could you fill the bowl with water straight away? And well done on the loss again! You have a birthday weekend too - hope it's lovely as well! And you have permission to indulge too Grin anyway I can imagine you (and Not) will be doing lots of running around so you will work it all off!

That's reminded me that when I've talked to my GP before about losing weight, she said if she ever eats anything naughty/nice she cuts it in half and pours salt over the other half if she can't get to a bin. I was horrified Shock but she is slim so I guess there's method in her madness.

Bath thanks too you are so kind. You're right, I need to switch to healthy snacks, but honestly (and this is awful) the thought of veg as a snack (or even fruit) just makes me go eurgh. So childish and I know it's part of me switching my mindset to thinking of food as fuel not fun. For now I'm just going to try to wean down the naughty snacks as a first step. Well done on resisting the naughty stuff last night! That lb must be bloat and you will get a bit whoosh in a few days.

Cinderbelly well done on the loss! And well done on resisting the crisps - esp when you had your hands on them!

Wally that is brilliant Star well done - you and Sesame without your badgers lol.

Loli wow a 10km hike sounds lovely. Funny how walking sounds so boring but hiking sounds like such fun.

Callme 1026 is brilliant - did you feel hungry at all?

Sesame aw thanks and at least dark chocolate is the better type. Staying at maintenance level is great.

coragreta oh I'm so sorry you're down about the scales, but 1/4lb really is tiny and I agree with Not it could just depend on when you go to the loo. Could you be building any muscle at this stage that might be affecting the scales? Have a lovely time at the wedding!

madein thanks too - yes I will definitely go back to my GP if they don't get better in the next few days. Still trying lots of rest and deep heat for now. Unfortunately I never learned to swim Sad there was a thread on MN about people learning later in life and I do get tempted to learn sometimes, but I am very nervous of the water as I had a bad-ish incident in my 20s. Excuses, excuses.

Well done on resisting the chips though! Gosh the smell alone would make me ravenous.

Hi Bendydick (brilliant name Grin) welcome Flowers. 8lbs in 2 weeks? Wow that's amazing well done!

Fitter that's brilliant to be under 14 stone - well done Star. Do you find it easier to stay on target when DH is away? I definitely do - we are both such a bad influence for each other. Thanks for that info on the knee - I will look those lying side exercises up. I am the same in that the knee I had issues with before is now the better one sigh.

Sugarandsalt was it a full Irish by any chance - yum yum Wink. We could scare everyone by talking about how delicious black and white pudding is.

keepon that sounds look a good plan and let us know what fitbit you get!

Phew - I'll have to start reading and posting more often to keep up!

Good day yesterday (1150) and on plan-ish for today (1215) assuming I have 2 biccies after lunch:
B: Porridge 190
Mid-morning: & cos it's Friday: Tassimo Oreo drink - 105 (first time trying one - bit meh)
L: Egg sandwich and biccies (maybe) 400
D: Spag bol 520

Feeling good and relieved that I'm back near the 1200's - also think the smell of Deep Heat is putting me off food a bit hehe.

Good luck everyone for the weekend!

Wallywobbles · 16/09/2016 12:45

VLCD in my case is Slim and Save. I have about 5 stone to loose in total and just couldn't even consider doing it the sensible way. No motivation for it.

VLCDs are around 650-700 calories day. I do 3 sachets (shake/porridge for breakfast , savory meal sachet, high protein choc biscuit for tea) and then have a supper that's meant to have 100g lean meat/fish and 200g green veg.

It's a 12 week course with week 13 having a bit extra. Then I suppose you decide to stop or continue. There's a wean off plan. I think they assume that if you put on a bit you replace a meal by a packet. I hope to have lost 3 stone by week 12.

If you go for the 4 packet/day option then you have 100% of your nutritional needs met by the packets.

The portions are about 40g which is a shock but they fill you up well. One of my issues is portions so hopefully this will help. I like pretty much all of the things I've tried.

Thanks for the badger!!

Wallywobbles · 16/09/2016 12:54

Thanks for the encouragement Not, Dawhead and Sesame.

Maiden I think it's what I'll end up doing odd packets or a couple a day or something like that. I like them and it might help remind me of correct portion size.

For me the two side benefits are I'm sleeping so well (best in my life) and my IBS is good as gone.

Not2bObvious · 16/09/2016 13:15

wally your resolve and determination is amazing, so you started with 5 stone to lose and now you've under 3 less to goal in 7 weeks? That's fantastic. Good there's still some food in the plan too.
Ok so I'm not 100% off the carbs despite my high hopes of this morning but only 1 slice of bread sambo and small bag of crisps I have got to get off my arse & clean this filthy house before the party, it's badly needed. Have had very little ummf the last few months, keeping the house "ok" but it doesn't feel the level of clean I'd like. I wish I had a cleaner...sob

Hopefully · 16/09/2016 13:26

Cora are you shortish/within a stone or so of your goal/not enormously active? 1,400 may not be a huge deficit for you, so 1/4lb from mon to fri may be a realistic loss. It's demoralising, I know, but it is the right direction and you'll get there eventually.

My theory is that most people, unless very active, need significantly fewer calories than they think, and also underestimate calorie intake. For example, with my rate of loss (a couple of lb a month) at my activity level, I SHOULD be able to consume/log something like 1,700 calories a day, but actually it has to be more like 1,400 logged to keep me losing, so I am either burning fewer calories than I think, or eating more, or (most likely) a combination of the two. And I am very active, daily yoga, lots and lots of walking, running around after DC, only work an hour or two a day at my desk and that's at home so I'm up and down all the time. i have, however, come to terms with a slow loss. the time is going to pass anyway, so i might as well be thinner at the end of the year than at the beginning!

Hopefully · 16/09/2016 13:31

I was just looking at my MFP graph actually, and (ignore the first low bit, which is from losing weight pre-pregnant with DC3!), I can see it's taken me well over two years to lose the 30lbs I put on during pregnancy, which is insanely slow, but the trend is downwards and I am happier than if I still weighed over 12stone.

MFP thread 5
coragreta · 16/09/2016 15:18

Hopefully. Thanks for the advice. I understand what you're saying. I also agree that we over estimate how much we need.

I am quite short but am hoping to lose 2stone 8lbs. I consider myself active. I have managed 2 5 mile runs since Monday. I usually do Pilates when I don't run but haven't managed that this week. I also log on average 6000 steps per day. I also only went up to 1400 twice. That's why it's hard to understand. Maybe it's going to come off soon. I expect it to be slow but not this slow.
Thanks for the support. I may need it tomorrow if it turns out my dress doesn't fit!

Not2bObvious · 16/09/2016 16:31

Exercise do little for me cora so I feel your pain but it's too early anyway to see the results of your work this week. Hang in there, I'm sure at the rate I lose I'll still be here next September! Sweating, halfway through serious house Hoover & clean, I'll need bleaching when I'm done

dailyarsewipe · 16/09/2016 16:50

Rookie question. I've got 1053 calories left for the rest of the day and I fancy a Chinese takeaway.

I was 300 odd short yesterday and the day before.

I think the Chinese will be just under 1000, so should be OK (although nutritionally like eating lard probably) but I feel like I shouldn't be eating it.

What are your thoughts?

Not2bObvious · 16/09/2016 17:11

How long you been trying to lose daily, you say you're a rookie so early'ish? And when you say short the other days, you went over or under? If it's your first week and you want to make an impact I wouldn't - or if you really can't do without it, eat half & freeze half for another day. I remember an episode of extreme weightloss a year to change my life when one of the people had something from their old way of eating saying they could afford the calories, Chris Powell told them at this point in their journey they couldn't immediately repeat their old behaviour, they had to change. I have a Chinese these days maybe once a month, and it takes me 3-4 days to get rid of the bloat. It's your call but that's what I think.

dailyarsewipe · 16/09/2016 18:44

Sorry I thought I'd replied to this earlier but it didn't post for some reason. I'd already ordered in a fit of peak, but (and this is very unlike me) I could only eat half!

So I've still got over 300 calories left! Not that I will use them, that's me done for the day - great advice about the changing behaviour pattern though. I will bear that in mind next time I decide to treat myself with food Grin

coragreta · 16/09/2016 19:00

How much do you reckon hair weighs? I've just had seven inches chopped off. 1/4lb?

Not2bObvious · 16/09/2016 19:48

Haha daily as I said a few threads ago:
a) am not a dog, don't need treats
b) "Treats" got me chunky thighs & a big belly or words to that effect
But fair play you stopped at half, that's progress😉
7 inches cora??? Oh at least half a stone😁 I got my hair cut in a long bob about 7lb ago & that made me really see how my face changed with the stone (depending on when I weigh) changed my face. Do you like it? I love mine

Callmesausage · 16/09/2016 19:52

Shitty day here, work getting me down, so not even tracked calories today and have picked all day long! Need to write it off and stop myself before I liar the plot completely!

Not2bObvious · 16/09/2016 20:16

There's some days call that really derail us but as long as you get back on track tomorrow, you wouldn't get a flat tyre and get out and slash the other tree. Feck it, work is done now for the weekend (I hope?) Let it go, it's days like those that need to be forgotten, forward gear only. No guilt missy, you've been doing great
