MFP to lose weight

Emz449 · 30/05/2015 18:31

Hello! I'm starting this thread to make myself accountable and as motivation. I've been using MFP for 16 days now and have lost 6lbs, really enjoying it and finding it so easy to use. I'll be posting weigh ins as and when as I am a frequent weigher! Hopefully the loses will continue Grin I started in Janaury as 14 stone 11lbs Shock but I've become complacent

Starting weight - 14 stone 11lbs
Current weight - 12 stone 5lbs
Goal weight - Currently 10 stone 11lbs but I think that I will aim lower once I reach that

On 1,450 a day with an active lifestyle. Would be great to see other peoples loses and experiences with MFP, annoyed I didn't start it sooner!

Hi everyone! I fell off the wagon in a spectacular fashion on the weekend, largely due to having friends stay over with red wine and pizza.

Ugh. Back on it, and only 0.8kg heavier Hmm

Emz449 · 17/06/2015 20:43

That's amazing cheapandcheerful I think I'm definitely going to give it a go soon

Good luck Sansarya and welcome!

Nice to see you back peacoat, that gain really isn't very bad at all, not like mine the other week! It'll be off in no time Grin

Good luck Sansarya.

No exercise today (feeling knackered), but I've managed to stay within my calorie limit.

cheapandcheerful · 17/06/2015 21:40

I have a question:...

Tomorrow evening I am going out in the evening with a friend and we are going to an ice-cream parlour. I plan to save up my calories during the day so that I can have a treat but I have absolutely no idea how many calories are likely to be in their sundaes as they're not a chain so their foods are non-searchable in mfp.

How do you account for unknown calories? For example when you eat something homemade by someone else? Do you just guess?

Emz449 · 17/06/2015 21:58

I would usually search through the data base and break down what I've had and try and find something similar and go with the average across the board, it's An estimate but better then nothing. I hope you enjoy it, I LOVE ice cream!

Glad to hear you didn't do too much damage having a nice weekend peacoat.

I am back to where I was 12 5. Phew. Onwards. The 11's are getting closer.

Cheap - I have no idea about these things, but is sorbet less calorific (although probably more sugar)? Am sure you can find something equivalent on mfp, and just hazard a guess.

cheapandcheerful · 18/06/2015 08:39

Ooh yes sorbet! They do have lots of delicious-looking sorbets in there...

Emz449 · 18/06/2015 14:47

Does anyone else work in an office that constantly has cakes?! For three days this week there have been cakes and sweets in the office, one day was a homemade chocolate fudge cake. It was amazing and I managed to fit it into my calories... only just though!

OP posts:
cheapandcheerful · 18/06/2015 17:12

Thankfully I am at home most of the week with dc so am able to limit temptations somewhat. The one day I was at work this week though there was a delicious chocolate cake doing the rounds which I had to resist Angry

Also, I only just got around to researching the potential calories in my planned ice-cream sundae this evening...I'm going to go waaaaay over my limit today Blush

peacoat · 18/06/2015 18:14

Hi everyone! Good to hear so many people doing well. Luckily we have minimal food options at work so it's basically bring your own or starve.

Bath I'm glad you think it wasn't too much damage! I knew it would be a bad one. Have only had 700 calories today so far and am a bit hungry but not dying. Off to the pub now and I will only have soda and lime juice. No beer!

Cheap can you cut back a little bit for the next two days or so?

Sansarya · 18/06/2015 20:17

Emz, my office is like that! Every week either someone is leaving or it's someone's birthday. I think that contributed to my weight gain since I went back to work so I will have to be strict with myself from now.

flanjabelle · 19/06/2015 07:33

I have lost another two lb!

Mfp has dropped my calories down to 1290 now... I think I'm going to be hungry!

Bathsheba3 · 19/06/2015 08:00

Go Flanjabelle!

cheapandcheerful · 19/06/2015 08:51

I'm on 1290 too flanjabelle...

Well I am still full from last night's ice-cream sundae so yes peacoat I can probably take it easy today! Hoping to save up some calories for a couple of glasses of wine tonight though :)

Emz449 · 19/06/2015 09:02

Well done flanjabelle that's brilliant Star

Morning all, no loss today, but been out running again this morning while baby still asleep and husband watching him. Ended up having fish and chips takeaway last night as we unexpectedly had to go round to a friends who was unwell and help look after her, so we just got takeout to have there, although luckily I had budgeted for quite a calorific dinner anyway, so hopefully not too much damage done.
I still get 1410 calories on MFP, although to be honest I usually aim for around 1500 - I'm so busy and I find my blood sugar doesn't cope well with less and I still lose weight on that amount. I lost 1.5 stone last year before my wedding using MFP, then got pregnant on honeymoon and put 3.5 stone on!!! So now I'm trying to get back to ten stone, currently at 12st 3.5 - I only lost 11lbs giving birth, was hoping for a lot more!

Emz449 · 19/06/2015 10:56

My scales haven't actually moved since last Saturday Sad , other than going a lb up randomly, so I've stayed the same, bit frustrating but I'm hoping there will be some movement this weekend with longer sleep and the totm bloating going. Still hoping praying to meet 2lbs loss by Monday so I meet my 11st 13 goal by the 1st July.

On a side note... how is it July already!

I am on my 3rd day of MFP. The nutrients bit is really interesting. I am bad at eating iron, but exceptionally good at vit C!

Bathsheba3 · 19/06/2015 11:36

Hi Can. How funny - I had no idea there was iron & vitamins on the nutrients bit. I tend to just ignore that - on the basis that on some days if I eat salmon filet, some nuts (e.g. 5 brazils), and a 20g piece of cheese I can exceed my fat quota for the day!

Boo hoo Emz. Am sure you will have a big poo have a nice surprise in the next day or two. It is very disheartening, but I guess that is why in theory we should be weighing ourselves only once a week...

But I cant resist either and also hopped on the scales too this morning. I've lost another 1.5 lbs, so down to 12 3.5 - same as you Jonty! I could have written your story btw - I got in the 9's (just) for my wedding, got pg on honeymoon. Put on 4 stone - of which 10lbs was my DD though.

I've lost the weight x 2 - first through stress (DH had cancer, we had a toddler and baby) and then when I was approaching 40. Now it's time again, and this time for good. Feeling positive and determined today Smile

Bathsheba3 · 19/06/2015 11:41

And just as an aside as I am bored with work feeling very chatty, I had a bra fitting yesterday, as you do my first time in a decade. OMG. I was floored. Have been wearing 36DD's for a while (34D's in my slimmer days). Apparently I'm 32F. And that is with them a bit tight, hoping I will loose a bit more from my boobs. Expensive lunch hour. Lost on DH when I told him Wink

Bathsheba3 · 19/06/2015 11:43

I work from home btw. No tempting cakes here, thankfully. Just a whole fridge and larder.

Dogseggs · 19/06/2015 13:24

Hi all, I have been eating a bit too close to the top limit the last couple of days - then got a migraine. I always want to eat lots of sugary carby food the day before migraine shows up: I should have guessed. I am hoping it hasn't sabotaged my progress, luckily I managed to stay under my calorie limit, but it wasn't the healthiest food by a long chalk.

I am guilty of supplying my workplace with home made cakes. I love baking, but that is going to have to stop.

emz hopefully it is the totm causing the plateau and you will be back on track once it's over.

Emz449 · 19/06/2015 13:44

Yes fingers crossed would be nice to see a bit of a difference Smile

I'm the same with baking brownies and things, my boyfriend has a big sweet tooth and I like to make him things but it often results in me eating them too Blush so I've stopped now, he's not very happy about it!

Making the hairy bikers Spanish chicken bake tonight, has anyone tried it? It looks great, hopefully I do it justice!

I was going to ask how people use their calories in a day? I for example tend to try and stick to a lowish carb diet when I can and use extra calories on the odd treat like a kitkat or something, I changed my settings on MFP so that its lower carb and higher fat. Do you low carb, low sugar or just try and keep a balanced diet?

OP posts:
cheapandcheerful · 19/06/2015 14:50

I'm just focusing on trying to keep the calories down at the moment. We're a bit of a carb family so not sure I could cut them out easily...

Emz449 · 19/06/2015 17:38

That's fair enough cheapandcheerful with children i can't imagine it would be easy to! I was just wondering what people's diets were like in general, a friend of mine is following MFP, but is mainly using her calories on crisps/chocolate and snack type things instead of balanced meals
