MFP to lose weight

Emz449 · 30/05/2015 18:31

Hello! I'm starting this thread to make myself accountable and as motivation. I've been using MFP for 16 days now and have lost 6lbs, really enjoying it and finding it so easy to use. I'll be posting weigh ins as and when as I am a frequent weigher! Hopefully the loses will continue Grin I started in Janaury as 14 stone 11lbs Shock but I've become complacent

Starting weight - 14 stone 11lbs
Current weight - 12 stone 5lbs
Goal weight - Currently 10 stone 11lbs but I think that I will aim lower once I reach that

On 1,450 a day with an active lifestyle. Would be great to see other peoples loses and experiences with MFP, annoyed I didn't start it sooner!

I have lost 16kg since Jan 2014 using MFP.
I began at 1200 cal and gained extra 200 at least with exercise so found it very doable. I now still check in most days and stick to 1300/1500 if possible but am not concerned if I go over.
I exercise daily, lots of classes interspersed with walks and runs.
I love MFPGrin

Emz449 · 19/06/2015 21:29

Well done georgina! That's very inspiring. How long did it take you? Have you found maintaining easy?

OP posts:
GeorginaWorsley · 19/06/2015 23:17

Maintaining is fine as I love my exercise classes!
Originally set out to lose half a stone, then a stone.
I lost a stone between Jan and may 2014 then further stone between May and September.
Have gradually then gone down bit more.
I never felt deprived though as I kept eye on my daily intake and if I was nearing calorie goal I did 30 day shred or went for a walk or run to give me a bit if leeway.
I still do that, don't want to lose more weight as mow 8 stone at 5 ft 3 .

JontyDoggle37 · 20/06/2015 08:35

Emz I know that I need two snacks morning and afternoon, plus a small something 'treaty', I.e. A square of dark chocolate, so I tend to put those into MFP first, and then work with what I've got left for meals. And if I'm having carbs, I make it the smallest portion possible, I.e 50g pasta, then ramp up the veg to compensate.
No weight loss again today, although we were out for dinner last night, think I went about 300 calls over even my exercise calories, so I'm hoping I might manage a bit more by Monday or Tuesday - if I can keep losing two pounds a week, that still means I could be at goal in 17 weeks....
I've done my run this morning, so that's a few more cals burned anyway.

Eliza22 · 20/06/2015 09:41

I've had a bra fitting too! I was wearing 38 C's. Am now in 36 D. Was going to buy 2 as they're expensive (for me) at £34 each but they're soooo comfortable a fit I bought 4 and binned my old ones. Bliss!

Diet-wise I build in a Cadburys Chocolate frog at 95 calls which is my treat with a coffee mid afternoon. I'm doing lots of fruit and veg and smaller portions of carbs. I rarely eat meat. I like chicken and fish. The couch 25k is shape changing but I'm struggling with it because one of the side effects of my endless medication is joint/muscle weakness. Still.... Must try!

I'm amazed by you ladies and the weight loss (large and small). Keep it up! Smile

GeorginaWorsley · 20/06/2015 10:46

eliza keep going with C25K.
Even brisk walking is good.
Would lifting small weights at home help?

Emz449 · 20/06/2015 10:47

Weighed in this morning at 12stone 1! So happy, it's the lowest weight I have been in ages, would love to lose a lb or 2 more before Monday but I won't hold my breath. I have my boyfriends parents coming to visit on Sunday which could involve a meal out. Will be good as good for the rest of the weekend though! So close to the 11 stone bracket now Grin

Well done emz

imustbepatient · 20/06/2015 11:48

You've all done so well with your weight loss! Well done!

Would you mind if I joined in this thread?

I've been on a diet what feels all my adult life but without much long lasting success - esp after having children! Last week I decided to put together a list of personal rules I'm going to stick with, based on the aspects of diets I've tried that have worked for me in some ways or feel right for me.

One part of the rules is to use MFP to track what I'm eating and keep under set amounts for Monday to Thursday and then slightly higher amounts (but still under TDEE) for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

I've followed it for a week and have lost 1.1 kilos. Which feels like a good start! Now only 25 or so kg to go...

Bathsheba3 · 20/06/2015 12:03

Welcome imust & 1.1kg in a week is amazing. And well done Emz. I can hear you smiling in your voice post. You'll be in the 11's very soon! I was 12stone 3.25 today, So nearly there.

Jonty - thank you. You were my inspiration today. I was going to mooch around this morning, but thought if you had already gone out for your run & back by 8.30, I should go to. And so I did. 5k. Feeling energised, & chuffed to bits too.

Big roast dinner planned tomorrow for fathers day. Will cut back today & rest of tomorrow to enjoy guilt free, within my cals. Go us!

peacoat · 20/06/2015 12:21

Well done everyone! I'm really inspired.

Today is back on the wagon. I feel like a fraud on this thread! I'm counting it as Day 1. Alcohol is my downfall so it's going to have to be teetotal for a while until I see some serious weightloss.

I keep planning on starting C25K but haven't yet. I haven't even done BMF for 2 weeks but will tomorrow. I too suffer from aching joints - especially if I eat wheat - so it's hard to feel like getting out. I'm also a bit embarrassed about being a lardarse trying to run out on the streets of London. I think if I lose weight my lower back might not ache so much.

Have meal planned.

Imustbe welcome and congrats!

imustbepatient · 20/06/2015 12:34

Thanks very much for the lovely welcome Bathsheba and peacoat!

Alcohol is completely my downfall too. I can manage to avoid it Mon to Thurs without a problem but by Friday it is calling to me seductively......

Bathsheba3 · 20/06/2015 13:00

Go peacoat - not being funny, but if I can do this anyone can. I was overtaken by so many runners this morning. Probably they couldn't face seeing my backside & muffin wobble its way round the park.

You can do it. Like anything it is mindset. I have cut out alcohol, sugar, wheat & other processed carbs. It is bloody hard. Especially as an emotional eater with huge emotional stuff going on. But am 10 lbs down. I plan to reintroduce wine, fruit & other foods - moderately - next month.

With my saved wine money I'm treating myself to a personal trainer x1 a week. She is focusing me on back-strengthining stuff, and specific muscle training to stop the lower back ache (which can be debilitating). The running I can do myself (for free).

Reach deep - you can do it. Small steps.

peacoat · 20/06/2015 13:46

Bathsheba thank you. It can be difficult, as it's dealing with physical, organisational and emotional/psychological stuff all that same time. I used to love running so I'm really frustrated that I can't really do it anymore. I had a lower back injury that scuppered my fitness since 2011 (that pesky lower back) and have been studying all year plus full-time work and so am all out of good habits. I also am an emotional eater.

Good idea about the personal trainer. So good that you are getting out running. For me, Bikram yoga really sorted out my back. I had tried everything - Reformer Pilates for 5 months, personal trainer (same period) for 9 months and ended up on painkillers from the doctor who told me that I would just have to learn to manage the pain for the rest of my life. I need to go back to Bikram but I just haven't got the energy at the moment.

I really love how I feel when I cut out the wheat, sugar and starchy foods. I can be really good until I have a drink and then I make really terrible choices. So no more alcohol. I also need to know that I'm in control of it, not the other way around.

I'm going to concentrate on a steady pattern of a Slimming World/MFP diet, plus BMF once a week until that is consolidated - around a month - and then step it up. I'm slightly scared I'll cock it up so I'll be on here celebrating our successes Smile

GeorginaWorsley · 20/06/2015 16:04

I should cut out alcohol really too.
However I just can't give up my glass of sauvignon at 9pm.
It's like a reward for getting through the day which is ridiculous really.
If I have more than a glass I feel awful the following morning with bad head etc.
Even if I only have 2 glasses!

JontyDoggle37 · 20/06/2015 16:12

Bathsheba glad I could be of service! Grin

Emz449 · 20/06/2015 17:03

Welcome imustbepatient and good luck Smile

Thank you for your messages Flowers I went shopping this afternoon to buy myself some new underwear and jeans to celebrate and also some new running leggings for when I rejoin the gym at the end of the month. Interested to hear that you found yoga helpful for your back peacoat, the gym I'm joining has classes so I think I might ease myself in, my back is still seriously painful, the painkillers the doctor prescribed hasn't really touched the pain so I'm going back next Friday to see if there's anything else that will help.

bathsheba sounds like you're very determined and inspiring actually too with your running and diet. I wish I could run 5k!

Sore backs are just the worst, aren't they. It's invisible yet really debilitating. Do you know what is causing it Emz?

Emz449 · 20/06/2015 18:20

A slipped disc pushing on my sciatic nerve caused by overzealous kettlebells workout, it's not just painful but it's very irritating too as it affects everything especially sitting down, which is the worst as I'm in an office job. What caused yours pea?

OP posts:
peacoat · 20/06/2015 18:38

Oh that is annoying. Yes, sitting down just aggravates that sort of thing. Mine is L4/L5 and I think it was from falling on my bum on a muddy mountain in Vietnam, and when I got back to London the physio said I had twisted my sacrum. It's only sore/stiff on the one side.

Don't quote me, but I'm pretty sure that I've heard lots of yogi people swear that they've had slipped discs in the lower back that were healed by yoga. Backbends, they said. It's worth investigating. Backbends certainly help relieve the pressure for me.

Emz449 · 20/06/2015 20:40

Yeah mine affects the right side more and the pain goes down the right side of my leg too, I do find that walking seems to make it better. I think I will look into yoga and Pilates, I'm just hoping that it'll go over time, it's been about 6 weeks now!

We're packing up my boyfriends things tonight so I'm having a few vodka and diet cokes to relax, our flat is currently a bomb site!

imustbepatient · 20/06/2015 21:50

Thanks Emz for the welcome and to all of you for the inspiration on the running front.

About 10 years ago I got into running after growing up hating it and certainly not being built for it! But I developed a love for it (or at least loved being able to do it!) and even ran a couple of half marathons in 2006. My lord that seems like a life time ago now!

I fell out of running over the years of being pregnant / having my two DC and the resulting horrific weight gain but I have just started up again, gradually increasing the pitiful amount I can run. I doubt half marathons will be on the cards again but I'd really like to build up to running 10k at a time. You lot will definitely keep me motivated with all the running you are doing!

Bathsheba3 · 21/06/2015 09:07

Scales gone up by 1lb this morning, but I stayed within cals yesterday & day before. Serves me right really for getting on every day. I don't feel too bad about it, as I can feel my clothes all looser now.

Hope everyone have a good day!

peacoat · 21/06/2015 09:41

Morning all. Bathsheba it also depends on TOTM. Brilliant that you can feel your clothes looser.

Scales gone from 96kg on the last 2 days (thanks to my ridiculous blowout on Thursday night) to 95.3kg this morning. Yesterday was Day 1 so I'm happy for the kickstart.

Went out last night and had diet coke all night. Go me Grin but it's paid off. Plus I saved around £15 so I like your idea Bath of putting that towards a treat for myself. It adds up quickly doesn't it. I'll be in the Bahamas soon.

Bathsheba3 · 21/06/2015 09:50

ha ha! Bahamas sounds good peacoat! Save me the seat next to you!
